Author's Note: Chapter is shorter than I would like (and thats saying something), but I have been working on other projects that will hopefully conclude soon so I can start posting larger chapters soon (fingers crossed).
Waking up the next morning made me realize some things.
The first of which was that I needed to think things through more thoroughly, this was because waking up in a pool of cooling magma was not something I expected.
After carefully extracting myself from the glowing puddle, I made a resolution to get a better grasp of my devil fruit abilities before I even attempted making contact with other people, for their sake more than mine.
Knowing that it would be foolish to go willy nilly hurling giant fists of lava on an open beach, I resigned myself to using one of the abandoned warehouses I had come across the day before when trying to get my bearings.
Carefully slipping through the hole in the fence and into the industrial section of what I presumed were abandoned docks, I found a shabby looking warehouse that seemed to meet my needs of providing the privacy I needed to practice.
There was a rusty door into the building itself that seemed to be fairly well locked, padlocks and bolts keeping the door shut.
Grasping the locks and producing a small amount of magma in my closed palm did the trick in melting the padlocks and bolts.
Wincing at the loud screeching noise of rusty metal scraping as I opened the door, I looked around the interior of the warehouse.
Oh damn
While the open space was mostly empty, there was still a surplus of rusty pieces of scrap on the ground such as chains and pipes. The floor was covered in dust and the place frankly looked a complete wreck. Like the ship I made my camp in, there was evidence that it had been used as a shelter at some point, ash and old charcoal was all that remained of a long abandoned camp fire.
There was also graffiti, a lot of it. Honestly it shouldn't have surprised me as much as it did, there were the various gang signs painted on the walls. I couldn't make most of them out but the general impression I got was that both the ABB and Empire had competed at one point to see which sign lasted longer, at least that's what it looked like. There were ABB letters atop 88 numbers atop ABB letters atop 88 numbers and so on.
Finally happy that I was in private, I started to test my abilities.
Creating magma was easy, it felt intuitive, I felt no strain as I made a steady flow of magma fall from my hand.
Next I tried transforming into magma, like I had done yesterday. Repeating the process I went through yesterday to achieve a magma fist took only a few seconds to get right this time. After repeating the process a couple more times I started to get the feel for it, it was kinda like I was willing my arm to get pins and needles, kinda. Repeating the process ended when I was able to shift my fist into magma at will. I also found it just as easy to have the transformation creep up my arm and throughout my body.
Let me tell you, having your head made of magma but still retaining all your senses was a weird experience.
Next I tried what was arguably the most useful Logia ability, damage immunity. I tested this by attempting to punch a n old steel pipe propped up against a wall.
Huh
It was weird, feeling the pain of hitting a metal object triggered something and it sort of just…clicked? Together. Feeling confident in this weird feeling I punched the pipe again and watched as my fist simply splattered against the metal as magma rather than feeling the impact.
Testing this new feeling further I found out that it functioned exactly as it did in One Piece, as long as I was aware that I might be inflicted with pain, my body reflexively transformed the part of my body that was about to experience said pain.
It was fascinating, especially when it transformed my clothing as well, before reforming with no damage sustained.
Lastly, I tried to actually manipulate the magma itself, willing it into shapes and such.
After a few experiments in this subject I had a reasonably good idea on how manipulating this magma actually worked. I could control and shape the magma freely as long as I was in direct contact with the magma itself, once it left contact it was remarkably harder to achieve and sort of control. I also found out that the magma I manipulated tended to keep its shape after losing contact with it. I tested this after shooting my fist as a projectile against the far wall, it kept its shape as a fist for the duration as a projectile.
I learned a second thing about my magma from firing that fist.
It was explosive
Which was why I was running from the scene of a rather large explosion that blew a massive hole in the side of the warehouse.
Making my way back to my camp and calming down for a couple of hours, and laying low, I finally decided to make my way into the city proper.
I needed supplies, fast.
As always, reviews and suggestions fuel my existence.
