Basis: Chapter 7
Date & Time: Thursday, August 14th, 1975, 10:30 P.M.
City: St. Georgina
State: Lanahassee
Shelly: J..Jimmie?
*The man removed his mask. It was Jimmie. He quickly tackled Dustin to the ground and collected the black purse Shelly had dropped. He ran to the El Camino parked at the curb and jumped into the passenger seat.
Jimmie: GO! GO! GO!
*The driver hit the gas and the El Camino burnt the passenger rear tire and rolling down the street.
Dustin: I'll be back.
*Dustin ran to the Super Bee, and got in.
Dustin: Can't outrun a Hemi.
*The Super Bee's tires smoked as he reversed out of the berth, and the Dodge power slid onto the street giving chase.
*The Dodge gained ground on the El Camino quickly. Jimmie, who was laughing turned around to see a pair of dual headlights gaining ground. His shit-eating grin faltered to a look of fear.
Jimmie: Oh shit. Speed up!
*The 350 under the hood of the El Camino bellowed in protest as the car began to gain speed. It turned around a long sweeping bend and it fishtailed slightly.
Jimmie: Shit man,
Driver: Well, what else could I do, Jim!
*The Super Bee pulled up closer and closer.
Jimmie: Shit! Shit!
Driver: What is wrong with you?
Jimmie: He's a cop!.
Driver: WHAT!?
*The Dodge approached the Chevy and approached the side. Dustin drew his 1911 from its holster and aimed it at the El Camino's rear tire. He pulled the trigger and put a round through the worn-out rear tire.
Jimmie: Shit!
*The El Camino lost control and went of the road. It skidded sideways and the bed of the El Camino bashes into a Maple tree. The Super Bee slid to a stop nearby. Dustin grabbed the CB from his console.
Dustin: This is Detective Dustin Holcomb, I need a wrecker, and a couple patrolman on Maple Run Road. I got an El Camino here that needs a tow and two men that need an escort to the Bear trap.
*Dustin pulled the driver and Jimmie from the wreck, other than a few cuts and bruises, they were lucky to be unharmed. Dustin hand cuffed them to each other and placed them on the ground next to the wreck.
Dustin: I warned you, dirtbag.
*The L.S.P.D. '74 Monaco Cruiser arrived followed by a 1974 Chevy 1 Ton Ramp Truck.
Dustin: Have fun in prison.
*Dustin grabbed the purse and quickly went back to the theater, while Jimmie and the driver were escorted to jail, and the remains of the El Camino was hauled to the junkyard.
*Dustin pulled up in front of the theater to see Shelly talking to one of the L.S. P. D. Officers.
Shelly: My date is a State Police Detective. He went after them.
Dustin: I have her things Dale, John and Toby are taking care of them right now.
Dale: Ok, sounds good.
*Shelly ran to Dustin and hugged him tightly.
Shelly: Thank goodness you're okay.
*She rose up on her toes and passionately kissed him.
Dustin: I'll always protect you, Shelly.
*Dustin's Super Bee pulled into Shelly's apartment lot. She looked very nervous.
Dustin: What's wrong?
Shelly: Well….
Dustin: Shelly,
*He put his hand on hers, slightly squeezing.
Dustin: You don't want to be alone tonight do you.
*She didn't say a word, but shook her head agreeing with him.
Dustin: Where is your car?
Shelly: It's that red Bug over there.
*Dustin looked to see a red 1970 Volkswagen Beetle parked nearby.
Dustin: Okay, go in, pack you a few days' worth of clothes, some essentials, and follow me in the Bug.
Shelly: Okay, where are we going?
Dustin: You're gonna stay with me for a few days.
*Shelly went into the apartment and came out with a duffel bag.
Dustin: Just follow me to my house.
*Shelly followed Dustin back to Clearwater. When they pulled into his driveway, Dustin pulled into the Garage, while Shelly waited outside. When Dustin came back out, He got in the Passenger seat of the Bug.
Dustin: Pull around back to the barn.
Shelly: Why the barn?
Dustin: Its where we'll keep your bug. I have a tarp I can use to cover it up.
*Dustin opened the barn door Shelly pulled in. Dustin turned on the overhead light. Shelly got out and looked around.
Shelly: Huh. I thought barns were used for horses and cattle?
Dustin: Well, my horses are these.
*Inside were two cars covered by tarps.
Shelly: What are these?
Dustin: Oh, um, those are a couple of cars I put into storage in here.
*Dustin raised the tarp to show the front end of an old Dirt track race car, a 1968 Dodge Coronet 500.
Note: Dustin's '68 Coronet 500 was a Dirt Track Racecar. It was bought brand new by his old High School shop teacher in 1968 and used primarily as a car that students could take apart and put back together. When Dustin turned 23 in 1969, he bought it from the teacher and brought it to his father's house. There he built the 4-time Dirt track championship winner in Nicholas City. The paint work was done up in a two-tone Navy Blue and White, the "59" on each of the doors was hand painted into a calligraphy style of font. The stickers of the old sponsors used by the car had been removed and repainted to match the rest of the car. The Coronet had been put in the barn after Dustin purchased the land his house and barn is now, after being in storage on his Father's land.
Shelly: This is..
Dustin: Rough?
Shelly: I was going to say unusual.
Dustin: This car basically paid for my college.
Shelly: What about this one?
*Dustin pulled the other cover to show another car. A 1958 Chevy Biscayne.
Note: Dustin graduated from high school in 1964. For his graduation present, his father took him to the local used car lot where he bought a Jet Black 1958 Chevy Biscayne 2-door. It originally had a 235 ci Blue-Flame 6-cylinder engine originally but Dustin's father and brother helped him put a 265 ci V8 from a '55 Chevy Bel air that his uncle used to drag race.
Dustin: This was my First car.
Shelly: She's Beautiful.
Dustin: I got her in'64 when I graduated high school. It got me through college and then once I got my Roadrunner, I parked it. This car has some memories.
*Shelly looked at her Beetle and then back to Dustin.
Dustin: C'mon. Lets get back to the house.
*They walked the short walk back to the house.
Dustin: You take the bed.
Shelly: Oh, no I couldn't.
Dustin: I'll be fine on the couch, Shelly. Go get some sleep.
*Without another word, she went into the Bedroom and fell asleep on Dustin's bed.
*The next morning, Dustin Left her breakfast on the counter with a note.
Eat up. If you need me, I'll be in the Garage. Dustin.
*Dustin went into the garage and opened the hood of his '71 Roadrunner to change the plugs. The radio on the workbench was blaring Dancing Machine by the JACKSON 5. Dustin was moving to the music like the goof he was when Shelly came in wearing a short night gown and fuzzy purple slippers. She was giggling to herself watching the Detective being a bit silly.
Shelly: Dustin?
*BANG*
Dustin: OWWW! Shit!
Shelly: You ok?
Dustin: Yeah, I just hit my head on the hood.
*Shelly grabbed his arm and sat him on the chair next to the workbench.
Dustin: I'm ok
Shelly: Dustin, thank you again for letting me stay.
*Shelly kissed him as passionately as she could without hurting him.
Dustin: It's the least I could do.
*Dustin stood up, his head no longer hurt. He kissed her again this time, her hands strayed under his T-shirt.
Shelly: I really don't want to leave.
*Dustin lifted her onto the workbench playing his hands on her waist as he kissed her again.
Shelly: Dustin….
*Dustin stopped and met her eyes with his.
Shelly: I think I'm in love with you.
*He kissed her again.
Shelly: So, I can stay?
Dustin: Yes.
*She began to kiss him again. Dustin picked her up and carried her in the house, shutting the door with his foot.
