Yep, I'm back after almost one hand a half years. With a spiritual reboot of my Kingdom Hearts and Overlord crossover. Yes, I decided to make an updated crossover because of the new Kingdom Hearts lore. Sue me if you want.
Disclaimer: Kingdom Hearts and Overlord are owned by their respective owners. Not me.
The feeling of the suns rays was one of the last things he had felt before he faded away. There was no pain. In fact, it had felt like an ever present numbness. Which made sense given his body had ceased to be. As his consciousness started to fade away memories of his friends, of his adventures, and of her. 'Kairi.'
Sora opened his eye and pulled himself up off the stained glass mural of his dive to the heart. Standing up he had wondered why he was here and then he noticed the cracks that criss crossed the whole thing. The sight caused Sora to have a bit of a panic. This was a reflection of his heart and if was in this state… "You're finally here."
Turning around Sora was greeted by what looked like himself only covered by a shadow with yellow glowing eyes. The glowing eyes of a Heartless, his Heartless. Sora had on occasion felt himself pulling on the power of his Heartless. Each time he did he felt the mindless instinct of it trying to overcome him.
So, seeing it here and now being able to talk was a bit unsettling to say the least. "Is this you're doing?"
"No," The Heartless of Sora pointed at him. There was a lack of the usual rapid emotions that Sora had usually felt from the Heartless. "Your heart is breaking from the stress of the Power of Waking and the other collapses it had felt."
Sora looked at the cracked platform as those words sunk in. He knew that this was the truth as his Heartless was a part of his own heart. Though, that left a question in itself as he watched another crack form "What happens if my heart breaks apart?"
Heartless Sora shrugged at this question. "Who knows, maybe we'll survive this or maybe we will fade away."
That wasn't what Sora had wanted to hear. Fading out of existence was what he was certain he was told would happen to him for using the Power of Waking but he didn't think he would literally fade away. "There has to be someway to stop this right?"
"If you could reset your heart all would be well, probably," Heartless Sora pointed to the platform and in a flash a keyhole formed on it for Sora to try out.
It was worth a shot, all things considered. In a flash of light Kingdom Key appeared in his hands. Pointing it at the keyhole a light shot out and on contact with it the whole platform was filled with a blinding light.
Power or Knowledge
Dawn or Dusk
The Knight, The Sage or The Rogue
Sora opened his eyes as consciousness returned to him. The aching numbness of his body telling him that this was reality. Picking himself off the ground Sora took a look at his surroundings. It was a forest, one which he was sure he hadn't ever been too before. "Where am I?" Consciousness slowly started to return to Sora as he opened his eyes to the shade of a tree. The aching numbness all over his body was enough to tell Sora that this was real. He had ended somewhere else instead of just fading away into nothing. Now the question was just where was the place he had ended up. With a bit of effort he was able to get his body to move and pull himself back up.
Sora took a second to look around. All he saw was a forest with nothing that he recognized about it.
He remembered that he had used the Power of Waking one more time. The price he had to pay was being lost from the world. That's why he was slowly fading away. 'Does that mean I'm somewhere else?'
There was one way to tell. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out the Gummiphone. He tapped the call feature and tried ed it. In an instant the phone seemed to crash before resetting itself. Sora tried again but was met with the same result. "I guess it wouldn't work if I'm in no place for it to work."
Sora put it away as he figured he might as well choose a path and walked until he either found signs of habitation or until it got dark. Either option was likely as he didn't have a map on him. Though there was something he had to do first.
Holding his hand out he summoned Kingdom Key. He focused on it and on himself recalling something he was told by Yen Sid and Aqua. A meditative stance Keyblade Wielders would use to reflect on their power, focus their mind, and recall their abilities. A rather uncommon thing to do but something that they did on the chance their heart had suffered too much damage or they had grown rusty with their abilities.
Apparently, Yen Sid figured he should learn it as this would make it easier for him to know were he stood the next time it happened to him. Sora was a bit surprised to see he had not lost much besides raw power. His abilities and skills seemed all there as did some he only vaguely remembered having or hadn't used in a while. Honestly, this was a lot better than the last few times this had happened. It wouldn't take long for his raw power to return to him though.
With that out of the way he unsummoned his Keyblade and started to pick a random direction and walked. For a few minutes there was nothing but the forest and what he assumed was a natural path.
The trees soon gave way to a clearing which had one thing that caught Sora's attention. Standing still in the middle it was what looked like a little girl holding a strange looking weapon. 'What is she doing out here?'
Maybe, she could help him figure out were he was or point him off to a population center? Either that or she needed help like him. "Hey!" Sora called out and there was seemingly no response at all. 'Did she not hear me?'
Thinking that might have been the case Sora decided to just run on up to her. Even as Sora got closer she made no move to recognize his presence which caused Sora to stop just a few feet in front of her. This was a bit troubling to him to say the least. "Hey, are you ok?"
Once again there was no response. Nothing at all. It was almost like she had been turned off so to speak. For a moment Sora almost compared this to how Roxas was when he first woke up from the memories of him that Roxas had shown him. Except a difference was that Roxas when he was just made could still react to outside stimuli.
Sora looked at her for a moment as he tried to figure out why this was happening. Taking a step forward Sora reached out his hand. Just as he tried to shake her out of whatever it was he caught movement out the corner of his eye. On reflex Kingdom Key flashed into his hands as he blocked the strike from the weird looking weapon within the girls hand.
With a push Sora knocked the weapon away and jumped back a bit to give himself some space. Immediately getting into a defensive stance he stared at the girl who had her weapon raised and was somehow suddenly wearing what looked like a suit of plate armor. On her face was a look of mild surprise. "My that almost pushed me back."
Shaltear didn't quite know what was going on. Her mind had been a bit fuzzy on events leading up go right now. Whatever it was didn't matter as right now there was actually a human who seemed to be almost worth attention right in front of her. Her eyes caught sight of the strange weapon within his hands. 'Is that a key?'
Sora cursed his luck. He didn't know what this was about but he had a feeling that the girl was not friendly. Still, he wanted an explanation for what was going on. "Who are you, why were you just standing around, and why did you attack me?"
"Why?" The vampire looked at him with a dismissive look. Just because he was worth some notice did not mean he was owed an explanation. Not that she had anyway to answer him if she knew. "I don't think I have to answer some human."
It looked like talking was going to get him nowhere. With the talking down Sora almost on reflex leaped forward alongside Shaltear as the two of them begun their fight. Unknown to either of them, someone had been watching the two since Sora first saw Shaltear.
"How did he manage to bypass the perimeter that Aura had set up?" Ainz Ooal Gown, or Ainz for short, looked through the Mirror of Remote Viewing watching a certain someone walking into the clearing that Shaltear was standing. He had gotten an alert right as he was about to grab some of his former guild members items for his confrontation with her.
No one there had any idea how to respond. Aura who had been monitoring the area didn't know how someone could have gotten past. It was almost as if they had suddenly materialized out of nowhere. Either that or they were just extremely lucky. Though given the Floor Guardians mindset it had to be a failure on their own part. "Should we do something about the interloper?"
There was a brief moment of silence in the room as they awaited the answer. "No, let's see how things play out first."
Against his better judgement Ainz had figured they could wait and see. One of two things could come out of this. Either they find out if this boy was the one who had did this to Shaltear, Ainz doubted that but that was a possibility, or they ended up dead. 'Still, how did he manage to get around Aura?'
He was pulled out of it as he noticed him seemingly call out to Shaltear with no response. Ainz should have expected as much. The later of two possibilities was the one that seemed the most likely. As he watched the boy run up to him Demi "Well, whomever he is it doesn't look like our interloper will be soon taken care of by Shaltear anyway."
It did seem so. Ainz was about to turn and leave as he watched Shaltear move to attack as the boy summoned something into his hand and blocked the strike from her lance. He then pushed himself back to get some distance as Shaltear then dawned her armor. 'Wait, is that a giant key?'
Giant Keys were actually a type of weapon from the oldest versions of YGGDRASIL. It was more of a joke weapon that only a few used. Though he had heard and seen players who had tried to make it into something of a real thing. Yet, the way it looked didn't seem to match any of them.
"Diverting him was harder than I had thought but it is done."
"I wonder though was this expected by you?"
So, the thing is I do not plan to bring any of the other Guardians of Light in for a long time to help Sora. He's mostly on his own for the time being. As for the power lost it's all in terms of raw strength. Simply put max power late game Sora is comparable to many late game Square Enix protagonists and boy are they well above much of what that series has... including Ainz and the Great Tomb of Nazarick.
Now, if you are wondering why I was silent for almost two years... Social Media happened. My god I knew it was bad by my favorite hobbies and fandoms were so toxic (that's literally all sides fault by the way, yes I even me) that I actually felt like stopping. As you can see I decided in the end not too but still.
Anyway, Updates will be slow but hopefully it will still be updated. Cya all next time.
