Hi everyone. So recently I've really enjoyed reading about Naruto and Hinata. I find them as a couple simply adorable and I just wanted to write a short fic and this trope of accidently revealing your relationship is gold. This doesn't really exist at any specific point in the anime, since I'm still completing Shippuden. It's not a plot story, just meant to be a fluff piece. This is my first anime fic so I will appreciate using kind words. I hope you enjoy.
"Man, I'm stuffed," Naruto exclaimed as he rubbed his belly in soothing circles, hoping it would help him digest his lunch. He, Sai and Sakura just had lunch at Ichiraku's. Team 7 hasn't had many missions together lately, with Naruto training, Sai working for the ANBU and Sakura spending most of her time in the hospital. So every once in a while, when they can spare the time they try to have lunch together, in the spirit of team building and friendship growing.
Sai and Naruto were walking Sakura back to the hospital when the trio spotted Hinata, Kiba, Akamaru and Shino making their way towards them. They were all in different states of dishevelment, having just had a training session to work on their team work. Naruto knows this because Hinata confided in him that Shino was feeling particularly bad after one of their missions when he misread a signal from Kiba that resulted in Akamaru sustaining a minor injury. So as a compromise, to make Shino feel better, and not make Kiba whine, Hinata suggested an early morning training session to let out their frustrations and work out their differences. It would also help Shino to realise they are a good team that just sometimes have off-days.
It seems Hinata was right in her actions, since all four of former Team 8 seemed to be in a good mood, despite their torn clothes and various scrapes and scratches. Naruto did a subtle once over of his girlfriend, to ensure that she wasn't severely injured and found he was satisfied. He spent a few seconds gazing at her. Hinata really was very pretty but averted his gaze when he saw Sai staring at him. Sometimes the guy was just too observant.
"Hey guys," Naruto greeted, "how was training?" Sai and Sakura also paid common greetings to their friends.
"Hi, Naruto," Hinata whispered in return, "training was good," to which Akamaru barked in agreement.
They spent the next few minutes catching up before Sakura exclaimed, "Hey, if you guys are free later, why don't you join us. We thought it was a good idea since almost everyone is home and without missions, even Temari is in the village."
Before they could respond, Naruto spoke, "that's a great idea Sakura. Why didn't you tell me earlier," he said, sounding offended that he wasn't personally invited to a group gathering.
Sakura gritted her teeth in frustration, her fingers itching to give the blonde a smack, "I did tell you, you knucklehead, you were just too busy inhaling your ramen."
The blonde in question raised a hand to his hair sheepishly, while the others in their company shared looks of exasperation, since it was very on brand for Naruto to pay more attention to his food than his surroundings. Hinata however, had a small smile on her face, in loving appreciation of her boyfriend's idiosyncrasies; a look that did not go unnoticed by Sai, who pondered the interaction between the secret couple; while he saw these secret glances he could not make heads or tails of it.
"Ignoring Naruto's short attention span, what do you guys think?" Sakura asked, facing the trio. Kiba looked at Akamaru before nodding to the medical ninja, "Akamaru and I are game," to which the canine barked in agreement and happiness at being included by name.
Shino and Hinata both nodded their heads in assent confirming the plan. With the activities decided Sakura said her goodbyes before she, Naruto and Sai began making their way pass Team 8.
Naruto almost unconsciously, and without real awareness of the people around him, since Hinata was directly in front of him, placed his hand atop her head in a familiar gesture. His fingers lingered on the dark strands for a few seconds before following the path of the hair down the back of her head before coming to rest on her shoulder. At the same time he leaned forward, his lips meeting her soft ones in a sweet gesture of goodbye. Kissing Hinata really was one of the best things ever. Her lips were always warm and soft and it set his heart aflutter. He let out a little sigh of happiness.
It was only when he raised he head that he realised the farewell chatter around him seized and he was instead met with shocked faces, with the exception of Hinata, whose face was beet red in embarrassment. Before he could explain however, his ears began ringing at the assault of Sakura's fist on his head.
"Oww, Sakura, what the hell was that for?" he asked incredulously, turning his head slightly. Her face was just as red as Hinata's, only it was more in anger than embarrassment.
"I'm surprised you have to ask, you pervert. You can't just go around kissing people whenever you want to. Apologise to Hinata."
The blonde, looked at Shino and Kiba on either side of Hinata, Kiba's mouth was parted in shock and curiosity while Akamaru yipped in excitement. Shino's expression was difficult to decipher, since his collar covered the majority of his face and his glasses obscured his eyes. Naruto, however, was mostly focused on Hinata, intent on apologising, not for kissing her per say, but for doing it in public. "I'm so sorry Hina. I didn't realise. It just happened." He started. "I know this wasn't how you wanted to do it." He spoke the words for only her to hear, but due to the close proximity of those around, it was no doubt they heard as well. But he made sure he looked directly into her eyes, so she could see he meant it.
He knew, as shy as Hinata was, she enjoyed physical affection with him as much as he did with her. But as comfortable as she was getting in private, Naruto knew that Hinata was naturally a shy person, and kissing in public would place too much attention on her. This is one of the main reasons why they wanted their relationship to remain a secret.
"It's okay Naruto. It was an accident, and I like that you missed me enough to do…that," she whispered modestly, her face so close to his that only he could hear.
Comprehension filled Sakura, "wait, this isn't the first time….how long has this been going on?" she pointed her finger between the two accusingly.
"Sakura, didn't you tell me it's rude to pry into other people's love lives?" Sai quipped in defence of his teammate. Sakura's face filled with mortification and in seconds her anger turned to him. "I meant that for you Sai!"
Kiba, ignoring Team 7's antics, smiled slyly at his teammate intent on ribbing her for what just happened but Shino, the awkward but lovable friend stepped in, "I think its best we end this here. I'm sure our friends would not want to engage with us if we're bruised up and have the odour of training on us?"
"Why did you have to say it like that?" Kiba's face twisted in disgust, momentarily forgetting that he wanted to tease Hinata about her crush on Naruto.
Hinata was grateful that the attention had shifted from her and Naruto. But her gratefulness didn't last long before Shino continued, "we should leave now unless Naruto wants to kiss Hinata goodbye again?" Maybe Shino wasn't such a good friend after all, Hinata thought, while Kiba snickered in response.
Naruto gave Shino a 'what-the-hell' look before looking to Hinata with concern in his eyes. She shook her head in dismissal and the rest of Team 7 made their way pass, trying to avoid Hinata's gaze so she doesn't feel more on the spot than she already has. However, Naruto subtly squeezed her hip in goodbye and comfort before departing to the Hokage Tower to see Granny Tsunade. He groaned at the thought that by tonight all of his friends were going to know about him and Hinata and they were gonna be bombarded with hundreds of questions. Maybe he could convince Hinata to ditch the get together and they could do something by themselves. Yeah. That sounded like a better plan.
If you enjoyed this, please consider leaving a review or liking it. I may write this trope from different perspectives in the future, since I find them super fun.
