Eric didn't want to admit it, but he was having a sugar addiction. Cookies, gum drops, candy bars, you name it. He was sucking them all down.
'Mr. Beale, if you don't stop eating all that sugar, you're not only going to regret it in weight, but also in health!' Hetty said.
'I love eating this stuff! Besides, I can quit eating this stuff anytime.' Eric replied.
Hetty didn't believe him for a second.
One day, Eric didn't show up for work, and wouldn't answer his phone. Hetty went to his place to see if he was okay. After letting herself in after he wouldn't respond to her knocking, she saw Eric lying on the couch in pain.
'Mr. Beale, are you okay?' Hetty asked.
'My tummy hurts.' Eric groaned.
'Oh dear. I'll get you some stomach medicine.'
Hetty took care of him for the rest of the day, even cleaned up his 'pig sty' of a room and kitchen.
That evening
'I guess this is a wake up call to ease up on the sugar addiction. Sorry I took it a bit too far.' Eric said, embarrassed.
'That's okay. I used to have a food addiction myself. I'm just glad you learned your lesson.' Hetty replied.
'Well, thank you for taking care of me, and for cleaning my room. And, can we not tell Nell about this?'
'Secret's safe with me.'
