Hi everyone! This was inspired by one of my journal prompts in creative writing. It was to write a short story about 2 characters having a serious conversation but then getting inturrupted my a phone call. This was the first thing I thought about it so here ya'll go!

I do not own the Titans or Cook Out. I just greatly enjoy both!

"I already told you, I can heal myself." Raven tried to say evenly, feeling her annoyance wanting to come through.

"But you're still hurt after you heal us!" Robin exclaimed, gesturing to her foot propped on the coffee table and wrapped with ice.

It had been a long morning in the tower. The others went out to some show which left Robin and Raven at the tower. Robin had been in the main room for quite some time before Raven made an appearance, suspiciously levitating just an inch or so above the ground.

It wasn't until she lost her focus for a second and she landed on the ground did Robin see her wince in pain. He promptly led her to the couch and took care of her foot, noticing it was in the same shape as Beast Boy's last night, which she healed.

The rest escalated once Robin put two and two together and Raven confirmed that she takes on the injury when she heals, making their pain her own.

"It's faster this way." Raven insisted.

"I don't care if it's faster, it puts you in pain is what it does!" Robin almost yelled. He took a deep breath to compose himself. There was no purpose in yelling. It would just make them both feel worse.

"That doesn't matter!" Raven blew out. "Making sure you all are ok is more important than me being uncomfortable for a bit."

"A bit?! It's been almost a day since you healed him!"

"But it's healing." Raven assured. She grabbed his hand, took off his glove and held it to her ankle. "See. You can feel it healing."

She was right. Despite the ice pack being on her foot just a second ago, Robin could feel how warm her ankle felt. It was the kind of warmth her healing gave off. Warm to the skin, and nice and cool internally.

"But your safety matters too." Robin calmly said, taking his hand off her foot and looking her in the eye which she avoided. "You matter just as much as anyone else on this team. I don't like seeing you in pain just as much as you don't like seeing us in pain .

"But you guys take so long to recover." Raven rolled her eyes, trying to lighten the mood. "It's much faster this way and there's less of Beast Boys winning."

"Beast Boy is more than capable of waiting until you are ready to heal. It's not fair to you that you're taking on all our pain. You don't have to." Robin softened.

Raven sighed. "Yes, I do."

"Why?"

"Because," She tried to think of a good enough reason that wouldn't out her destiny and why she feels the need to protect them as much as she can. "I just have too."

"No, you don't." Robin argued.

"Yes, I do."

"But why?"

Raven looked at her foot. Was she really going to tell him this? And so soon too? Yes, she decided. She already has a freaking mental bond with him for god's sake. How much longer could she hide it without letting him know?

"You promise you won't tell?" She whispered, still looking at her foot.

"Promise." Robin nodded seriously, letting her know that he's listening.

She took another deep breath and let it out slowly. "I have to heal you guys because, I feel like, there's someth-"

They both jumped as Robin's communicator rang loudly through the previously quiet room.

Giving her an apologetic look, Robin reached in his pocket to open his communicator, greeted with Cyborg's smiling face. "Hey, what's up?"

"Hey man! We were about to go get some food from Cook Out and wanted to see if y'all wanted anything.

Robin looked over at Raven to see if she wanted anything.

She just looked away and shook her head.

"No, I think we're all good." Robin answered. "Let us know when you're coming back."

"Will do man!"

Robin ended the call and put his communicator back in his pocket, turning back to Raven. "Ok, where were we?"

Raven looked at her foot again and said nothing for a moment. "Nothing. It doesn't matter right now."

"Are you sure?" Robin asked, concerned.

"Yeah. It's, it's fine."

Reading her demeanor and her overall turn in composure, Robin decided not to press her any further. She clearly didn't want to talk about it, and he needed to respect that. She would tell him when she was ready.

"Do you want some tea?"

Raven nodded as she continued to keep her gaze down, not wanting him to see how anxious she was.

Standing up and walking to the kitchen, Robin opened the tea drawer and looked at the options. Choosing a mixed fruit packet, he plopped it in a cap after he heated up some water, walking back to the couch and handing it to Raven."

"Here, today seemed like a fruity day." Robin said with a smile, hoping to get Raven in a better mood.

She took it with a small smile at his attempt. "Thank you."

Turning on the TV, they sat in a comfortable but tense quiet as Raven's ankle healed completely. It may cause her to be in pain for a bit, but it was worth it in the long run when she knew time was running out. She would always protect her friends for as long as she could. She had to. And she will.

So, what do you think? Did you like it? Not like it? Please be brutally honest
