The beautiful Nassau Harbor is a unique mix of modern buildings and mansions from its British colonial heritage. Best known for the stories of Blackbeard, Calico Jack y Sir Henry Morgan who were the real pirates of the Caribbean, famous for attacking any ship they thought carried valuable cargo... or at least that's what the tour guide of The Pirate Museum explained.
Right now, the group of eight people including Helga, Fabrizio, Tommy, Jack, Rose and three other students from the Business major were on their way to Paradise Island. They were lucky they took their mandatory classes in NYC and Miami, this way they could enjoy the perks of being a tourist in the Bahamas instead of traveling with a study group. The rest of the students were eager to go shopping in NYC, so now they were stuck in a marine biology research lab.
The first stop: Dolphin Cay.
Dolphin Cay was an open-air interactive habitat and a protected area for dolphins and sea lions located in Atlantis, Paradise Island. Half of the group went with the sea lions, and the other half to dip'n discover with the dolphins. The sun was already up, since it was midday, but that didn't stop them from enjoying a personal connection with the beautiful animals in the waist-high water. They got to feel the dolphins' and the sea lions' skin, watched them play, learned about their features and their environment for about an hour.
When they finished, all the group got together again to enjoy a 90-minute experience swimming freely with the dolphins.
Rose whispered Jack's name a couple of times, trying to grab the attention of the boy who was heading to the showers before going in the water again.
"Rose? Is everything okay? Do you need anything?"
"I'm a little nervous... Don't tell anyone but... I don't know how to swim"
"Really?" she nodded shyly "Alright, how about I get in with you and stay by your side the whole time, is that okay?"
Rose thanked him with a peck on the cheek, he wasn't going to say he didn't enjoy it. When they got back in the water, Jack instructed her to hop on his back and not let go. She felt safe around Jack, a special feeling she hadn't felt with anyone in a long time... since her father left. Jack made her reveal parts of herself that reminded her so much of her father. Letting her know that he never really left her ... he's part of her and he always will be.
On the count of three the blond one plunged into the water, not too deep so Rose wouldn't freak out. With each dive, he went further and further away from the surface. Breathing underwater wasn't a problem, since they had oxygen masks on. Jack's only wish was that he could see Rose's face as they swam between the dolphins. The mammals occasionally interacted with them.
In that moment, nothing... absolutely nothing mattered. School, family, the wedding... everything faded with the sound of the water that covered their ears. The water, clear as it could be, sea water that came directly from the ocean actually, allowed them to visualize everything in their way. None of them would admit it, but the pair also enjoyed the touch of their bodies together. They seemed to fit each other perfectly.
Jack's instincts came to light when they surfaced for the last time and took off the masks. He held her close, their heads inches apart, both smiling from ear to ear as water dripped from their now wrinkled skin. His right arm around her waist, securing her in a sweet protective way, his left hand caressing her cheek, then fixing her hair out of her face. If they kissed right now... nobody would know. It would be a secret between the dolphins and them.
Jack decided to take a chance, he pulled her down to the water and pressed their lips together. Not a single part of him expected her to kiss him back... but she did. The pair enjoyed the silent harmony in their lips, moving accordingly to the other person's rhythm. They swam back up when they needed to breath.
They never mentioned the kiss again. Jack could've easily dreamed it... so as Rose. The only witnesses were two mammals who would happily testify if they had known how to speak English.
If she wants to pretend it didn't happen, so be it. She'll bring it up eventually... when she's ready. Would she ever be ready?
