"Precisely," he stated matter-of-factly. "This too, shall pass."

She gave a derisive snort. "Well aren't you all wise and sagely today."

At his deadpan expression, she sighed resignedly and began cutting the pulverized meat into bite-sized servings. Their meals continued in silence, the occasional clink of silverware sounding dimly in the sparse dining area.

Finishing his meal, Sesshomaru steepled his hands, watchful as Kagome continued poking leftover food on a barely-touched plate. Her mopey mood was beginning to grate pettishly.

"Tell me what happened."

Inner grumblings paused at the unexpected question, glancing up to notice jaws set in attentive poise.
