Chapter 88: I Can Teach You How To Defeat Children

The customers had been expecting Krassu to stop Amy's fireball with ease like a master. Instead, they witnessed the old magic caster scuttling towards the door with his beard on fire. The air became a little awkward as a smell of singeing hair permeated the room.

"Alas, I guess white-bearded grandpa's power can only be used to fight kids," Amy said regretfully like a lonely master, drawing back her hand. She waved at her kitten and was ready to play with it.

Ugly Duckling had run to the other end of the counter. After it made sure that no fireball was in Amy's hand, it ran to her and positioned itself comfortably in her arms.

The embarrassing silence was broken. Amy and her kitten brought smile to customers' faces. That magic caster might get angry now that his beard was burnt. Mag's restaurant may not be able to stand his anger, they thought.

Sargeras nodded contentedly. She shouldn't be taken lightly. Even a 10th-tier magic caster would be taken by surprise. He felt better now because someone else had made the same mistake as him, and that someone else was stronger than him.

Mag turned to look in the direction of the door, frowning. He wasn't worried about the old man getting angry, because he had requested it himself, and he had come here to check out Amy's talent.

He was worried that if Amy's talent caught his attention, he would come here every day, pestering him. It seemed he was already doing that, though. Anyway, he would never let Amy go to Rodu.

Krassu opened the door and rushed out. He pointed his finger at his beard, and a water ball exploded right away. The bluish violet flame that was burning along his beard was put out in an instant.

Water splashed on the ground and his white robe, along with some burnt beard. He cut quite a sorry figure.

He should have got depressed and angry. Instead, he was delirious with joy. He tilted his head back and laughed aloud like a mad man. Other customers stopped laughing and looked to the door, worried.

His beard is ruined. Has he gone mad? If he got angry, he might burn the restaurant to the ground. He doesn't look very stable right now.

"Has white-bearded grandpa gone crazy? I shouldn't have burnt his beard. I don't know if he can grow it back," Amy said regretfully as she looked to the door. If he can't, I'll have to find a new nickname for him.

Krassu's weird laughter didn't last long, because he soon realized he was a little out of control. He straightened his face and reached out to stroke his beard, only to be shocked that it was not there anymore.

He looked down and found that his white beard, which had been over 20 centimeters long, was now burnt to half the length. Its bottom had been miserably blackened.

He had been growing his beard for decades and maintaining it every day. He strictly controlled its length. Even losing only one hair of his beard would make him grieve for a while. And now, it was ruined.

If the person who had done this to him were not Amy, he would definitely smash three holes in his head with his staff—even if it were a dragon.

But it was Amy. Plus, he had asked for it sincerely, and he had assured her that he would be okay.

It was his own doing. He could blame no one but himself. He was feeling aggrieved, but what could he do?

Then he recovered quickly. "Well, I can't blame my precious disciple. She has such a great talent, even if she could only use fireball magic, she would achieve perfection in using it under my guidance. I'll make her my disciple."

His heart raced without his permission as he thought about Amy's fireball. He had walked for more than six months after he left Rodu and went south, and had seen a number of geniuses, but they weren't exactly what he had in mind. The moment Amy unleashed her fireball, he knew he had found the disciple he had been looking for. The best disciple for him.

His smile returned. He waved his hand and used cleaning magic on himself. His robe got cleaned right away, but he couldn't recover his beard anytime soon. He pushed the door open and walked back in.

"That old man values his beard more than his life," Urien muttered to himself as he stood at his door, watching Krassu enter the kitchen. "His beard was ruined, but he was laughing. Looks like the little girl has a better talent than I've expected. I have to act quickly, or she'll become his disciple. I'll rob him of her. That old man always has a discerning eye."

The customers had been worried that Krassu would retaliate in fury. They had thought he would at least storm in and shout with anger. So, they were taken aback when they saw the old man walk in with a smile and his shortened beard. He is not mad?

Amy watched as Krassu resumed his seat. Before he could say anything, she said seriously, "You don't need to say anything, half-beard grandpa. I think I can teach you how to defeat children. If you truly want to learn, I can give you a discount."

Sargeras guffawed despite himself. He was drinking water he had brought along, and the water was coming out of his mouth.

A 10th-tier magic caster, who could beat a dragon with one fireball, was being ridiculed by a four years old girl, and she was offering to teach him how to defeat little kids. He had never seen anything so amusing in 50 years.

Other customers were shocked, and didn't join in his laughing. They were all staring at him. The two customers who were sitting at a nearby table moved a little further away from him.

To be sure, they also found Amy's remarks amusing, but they knew better than to laugh at a royal magic caster. They didn't want to taste the wrath of his fireball.

In the Roth Empire, it was clearly stated in the rules that royal magic casters had the right to punish anyone who insulted them, and wouldn't be charged with a crime.

People in Chaos City didn't have to abide by the rules of the Roth Empire. However, once, a royal magic caster had been insulted by someone from another species, and he had killed him on the spot. The Roth Empire had resolutely protected him, and he had left Chaos City safe and sound.

Chapter 89: Mag Turned Him Down?!

"White-bearded grandpa" had become "half-beard grandpa", and he got scorned by her. Krassu had no choice but to bite back his words. He blushed as he thought about what he had just said, and turned to give Sargeras a glare.

Sargeras was a little scared, but he couldn't help laughing. He had been holding back his laughter, but Amy's words had completely set it off. He lowered his head to avoid Krassu's eyes and kept laughing with his mouth covered. His shoulders were shaking violently. Never had he seen anything so funny for decades.

"Half-beard grandpa, don't scare Big Bald Head. If he got angry, he might burn away the rest of your beard. Then you'd become beardless grandpa," Amy warned, looking at the old man.

Krassu turned to Amy with a big smile, and said in a soft voice, "It was just an accident. I can use fireball magic as well. And mine is bigger and more—"

"Your second Yangzhou fried rice," Mag interrupted, putting the plate in front of the old magic caster. "I have told you. Amy is so little, I'm not going to let her leave me to study magic. If she likes to, I'll find her a teacher to teach her here," he said solemnly.

Before the customers had recovered from the shock of Krassu's calmness, Mag's rejecting him shocked them even more.

Sounds like it's not the first time that Mag has rejected him. She must be real talented if she could make the old magic caster come down off his high horse to try to bait her behind Mag's back.

"Mag turned him down?!" Harrison said as he gaped at Mag, mouth open. It would bring a great honor to his family if she became a royal magic caster's disciple.

Every year, numerous people went to great lengths to send their children to that tower in Rodu. They were happy even if their children could be accepted only as servants. They were counting on the chance that someday their kids might catch a magic caster's eye.

The old man has offered to take Amy on as his disciple, and Mag turned him down because he doesn't want Amy to leave his side?! Harrison didn't understand.

"I find it very natural. If I had such a cute girl, I'd do the same," Gjergj said adamantly as he looked at Mag. "No one could take her away from me, not even a royal magic caster."

"Yes. I will never leave my father," Amy said to Krassu, nodding seriously. "Half-beard grandpa, I can teach you when I have time if you really want to learn. I have to collect money now. I'm very busy."

Krassu took a look at Mag, who was so determined, and then at Amy, who had shown great interest in becoming his master. "I think I'd better finish this rice before it gets cold." He picked up the spoon quietly and got back to his fried rice, frowning thoughtfully.

He had planned to take Amy back to the Magus Tower to teach her there. The tower had been constantly repaired and improved by the royalty. Other than elves' Secret Dream Land, it was the perfect place to learn magic. Those magic rooms would make learning faster.

But it seems Mag is very determined to keep Amy at his side. He is pretty wealthy, so money won't sway him. He has excellent cooking skills, but he chose to stay in Chaos City, so he probably doesn't care much about the advantages he might get from the Roth Empire. And he hasn't shown any interest in my magic, thought Krassu.

These three advantages he had seemed worthless to Mag. Above all, he loved Amy more than anything. Krassu was a little upset; he didn't know what he had to do to change Mag's mind.

Mag took a glance at Krassu, who stopped badgering Amy, and turned to walk into the kitchen.

He had been a little worried after Krassu had revealed who he was. After all, he had no chance against such a powerful magic caster.

The fact that Amy could burn his beard was mainly because he had been absent-minded for a moment, and because he hadn't taken her seriously. Amy was to Krassu as an ant was to an elephant.

Fortunately, Krassu seems quite reasonable. He hasn't forced us to comply with his power and social position. Still, I will never let Amy go to that dangerous tower alone, Mag thought.

This little episode blew over after Krassu started eating again. The old man hadn't escalated it, so it was more like a joke between him and Amy.

Today's customers had made sure that the owner's girl was a badass. She even dares to burn a royal magic caster's beard. We definitely must pay after eating.

Those that had been served became lost in the good food quickly, enjoying the pleasant taste.

The inviting aroma and the delighted looks on their faces made many of those that had entered out of curiosity order a plate in spite of themselves. They wanted to try this appetizing dish even if they could barely afford it.

Mag put three roujiamos before Sargeras and warned the nearby customers to stay away from him. He didn't want the demon scaring his customers.

Sure enough, a ball of flame came out of his mouth after he took a large bite of roujiamo. His lava was burning red, and flames arose from his body.

Luckily, he had learned. He was sitting on the iron chair he had brought along, far from the table and the wall. The only part that wasn't on fire was his roujiamo-holding hand. Other customers watched him in fright as he wolfed down his food.

"Mag, I'd like two plates of Yangzhou fried rice to go, please. Both my wife and kids like your fried rice," Gjergj said with a smile as he took his second roujiamo.

Mag shook his head. "I'm sorry, but right now, one person can only have one plate of food to go because I have to serve the customers eating here first." More and more new customers were arriving, and he had a mission to accomplish, so he had to limit the takeout food.

"I see," Gjergj said. He had promised his wife and kids that he would bring supper for them. His wife might come down hard on him if he brought only one plate back. Two of his kids who could already eat had eaten some fried rice at lunch time from their mother's, Miranda's, plate, and they had pestered him to bring some for their supper.

"Mag, I'd like one plate of Yangzhou fried rice to go as well. Just one," Harrison said with a smile as he took a bite of his roujiamo, winking at Gjergj.

Chapter 90: I'll Call It The Burning Legion

Mag nodded. "All right. Please wait a sec." He turned to walk to the kitchen.

He had seen Harrison's winking, but it was not against his rules, so he said nothing. It was common between friends, and he understood.

After Mag went into the kitchen, Harrison smiled at his friend. "Parmer and Parbor also like this Yangzhou fried rice, right?" he asked.

"Yes. They like it so much. Even Angus wanted to try it, but his teeth are just starting to grow, so he can only eat eggs." Mentioning Gjergj's children brought a radiant smile to his face.

Harrison nodded, smiling. "Then bring mine to them. Say hello for me and tell them I'll take them to the stud farm someday."

Gjergj nodded. "Thank you. I will. They are always talking about your two white horses." Then they changed their subject to the stud farm. Harrison's family had invested in a stud farm. He had invited Gjergj to join to buy more horses and enlarge the farm. He wanted to make it big enough for racing horses, like the ones in Rodu.

Krassu finished his fried rice quietly. He was a little upset. He hadn't figured out how to sway Mag.

He had some old friends here in Chaos City, but he didn't want to trouble them with such an embarrassing problem.

Besides, his friends would probably use knife and gold to persuade Mag. He didn't want his precious disciple to learn unwillingly, because he knew very well that learning magic was a dull process even with enthusiasm.

"Half-beard grandpa, don't be so sad. I can't come with you to a faraway place to teach you fireball magic, but I can teach you here. You can leave when you have mastered it," Amy said solemnly to Krassu. White-beard grandpa looks so pitiful now that his beard has been burnt by me. He has to use his staff to help him walk, and his magic is terrible. I worry about him.

Krassu's eyes lit up while Amy looked at him with pity. He had a moment of clarity. I don't have to teach her in the tower. Maybe Mag will say yes this time.

But I'll have to make some alterations to the plan. I'll have them ship some equipment from Rodu for me.

The thought brought a smile to his face again. "Little girl, may I have the check?" He pulled out two dragon coins from his pocket and put them on the table softly.

"Yes. 12 gold coins, please." Amy took the two dragon coins and handed eight gold coins to Krassu. "Here, eight gold coins." She glanced at him, surprised. He feels so happy because he can learn from me?

"Goodbye, little girl." Krassu took the coins and walked towards the door with his staff, smiling.

It may be a little difficult this way, but I don't want to live in that tower anymore. I've lived there all my life. It's not an uplifting place, and he used to call it Coffin Tower, Krassu thought.

However, here, I can almost smell freedom in the air. More importantly, I can get good food and possibly a precious disciple. It's not a bad way to live the rest of my days.

Other customers watched as Krassu walked out, wondering. Why did he become so upbeat all of a sudden?

Sargeras sat with his head lowered and didn't dare to meet Krassu's eyes. He had thought the old man would reprimand him, but he just glanced at him and left without a word.

Sargeras breathed a sigh of relief. "He scared the sh*t out of me!" He glanced back and saw the old man's back. Then he got back to his roujiamo.

He could clearly feel his blood boiling, pounding at his barrier, behind which something he desired was sealed. The impact was not strong, but strong enough to ignite his hope. The possibility that he could get to another level just by eating roujiamo intoxicated him.

If it works on me, then it should work on all the lava demon warriors. Most of them haven't broken through the second barrier, so the effect on them should be stronger. Guess I should come home sometime and bring them here to try this roujiamo. Then we can form a group to do more difficult quests to earn more money to buy roujiamo. Sargeras nodded. We've been lying low for years. It's about time we showed them what we're really made of. He thought a moment and muttered to himself, "I think I'll call it the Burning Legion."

Mag had been busy for the whole dinner time. He stopped taking any orders after 9 pm. After the few customers finished their food and left, Mag turned over the "Open" sign and closed the door. He let out a sigh of relief. He felt a little exhausted after working for four hours straight. He seated himself on a chair by the door and prepared to rest for a while before cleaning.

Amy walked over to him and put the kitten on the floor. "Father, we sold 305 roujiamos and 76 plates of rainbow fried rice today. That comes to 1,371 gold coins," she said as she stood on tips of her toes to pound Mag's back.

Mag's eyes lit up. "Oh, our earnings have doubled," he said happily. Subtract the cost for ingredients, and we've earned more than 900 gold coins. It's indeed a good choice to increase the supply of roujiamos.

Over 50 new customers had come for dinner, and most of them had arrived due to the recommendation of the regulars; others had been drawn in by the busy atmosphere. Now he had got 260 customers. He should be able to finish his mission at this rate.

He had sold more than 400 roujiamos in total, and only needed two more days to accomplish this mission. Then he could unlock tofu pudding.

The thought of a bowl of steaming tofu pudding brought a smile to his lips.

"Dad, we've been eating roujiamo for days. When will you make something new?" Amy asked expectantly as she pounded Mag's back.

"Well, I'll cook you a new dish in two days," answered Mag with a smile, stroking Amy's head. He hesitated a moment, and then asked seriously, "Amy, do you want to learn magic?"

"Yes. I want to learn powerful magic. I want to protect dad in case they plan on hurting you," Amy said solemnly, nodding. She reached out to grab Mag's finger. "Don't worry, Father, I'll become very strong."

Chapter 91: Upgrade Costs Money

Mag nodded, smiling. "I'm sure you will." Amy's thoughtfulness made his heart ache. Mischievous kids had often mocked Mag Alex's way of walking when he limped on the road. They had even thrown stones at him.

He had tried his best not to let Amy see this, but still she had seen it several times. The little girl had stood before him, crying, telling them to go away. He could still remember it like it was yesterday. Maybe that's when the idea of protecting me took root in her mind.

Looking at Amy's earnest and determined face, Mag couldn't help but lift her up, hold her in his arms, and kiss her on the forehead. His nearest and dearest was always putting him first. It warmed his heart and made him feel like crying.

"Don't worry. Father will become stronger too. It should be me protecting you. You just need to be happy every day," Mag whispered in her ear. I'm not a good father, letting her carry so much.

"But…" Amy lifted her head.

Mag knew what she wanted to say. He shook his head with a smile. "The day after tomorrow is our rest day. We can play all day. We'll visit Chaos School to see if we can find a suitable magic caster to teach you."

Amy's eyes brightened instantly. "Really?" She gazed at Mag with her big blue eyes, surprised. Then she became a little worried. "But I've promised half-beard grandpa to teach him fireball magic. I don't want to be called a liar."

Mag shook his head, smiling. "Actually, he is a very powerful magic caster. But he wanted to take you to a far faraway place to learn magic, so I turned him down. You don't have to teach him fireball magic, because he already knows how to use it."

"Really? But his beard got burnt by my fireball," said Amy incredulously.

Mag nodded with a smile. "That's because your fireball is very powerful. So, if you have to use it again, first you must consider if he or she can stand it, or they might be roasted," Mag said seriously.

He was teaching her to learn to control the power she possessed.

Although Amy was still small, Mag was already starting to shape her worldview. He didn't expect her to become a saint, but he didn't want her to grow up a devil, either.

Kindness was a good quality, to an extent.

That was what he had gradually apprehended after he got transported into this world by God. Anything could go bad without limits. One might escape the punishment of men, yet he couldn't escape the righteous judgment of God.

Amy nodded earnestly. "Yes, Father." Then she looked down at the little kitten, which was looking up at them. "Roasted, roasted…" she murmured in a low voice.

"Meow…" Amy's words sent a chill down the kitten's back, and it flinched in fright.

"Go play with Ugly Duckling. If you're tired, go upstairs and sleep. I'll clean the restaurant." Mag stroked Amy's hair, smiling, and put her back on the floor.

Amy shook her head. "No. Ugly Duckling, Mushroom Fairy, and I will wait here." She picked up the kitten, climbed onto the long-legged chair, turned on the music box, and hummed along. Suddenly, she looked at Mag, who was wiping tables, and asked, "Dad, if I sing for Teacher Luna, will she be happy?"

Mag nodded, smiling. "Of course she will." Amy really liked Luna, but she was too young to be enrolled in Chaos School. Luna had taken the liberty of letting her in many times, though.

Mag had planned to check with some teachers in the school to see if they could teach Amy some rudimentary knowledge about magic.

Amy had invented fireball magic all by herself. If she didn't know the basic concepts of magic, she might not be able to control this power. He didn't want his precious little girl becoming a rascal in other people's eyes. There was big difference between innocent and wild.

Amy nodded. "Then I'll study harder. I'll sing for dad and Teacher Luna," she said solemnly, and started humming along again.

A smile touched Mag's lips, and he worked faster. Amy was starting to get used to saying "dad". Although sometimes she still used "Father" subconsciously, Mag didn't care anymore. Sometimes, he even found the sound of "Father" a little cute. He decided to let her use whichever she wanted.

Mag cleaned the restaurant, marinated some meat to use in three days from now, and washed his hands. Amy was leaning on the counter, asleep, with the kitten dozing off in her arms. The music box was still playing, but its sound seemed to have become a little hoarse.

Mag raised an eyebrow. "System, listen to your 5,000 copper coins' worth of music box. What a rip-off! It's broken in only one day!" he said in his mind.

"There is no perpetual motion machine in this thing, so the acoustic quality will change when the power runs out. You just need to buy four A size batteries to replace the old ones," the system said calmly.

"You use A size batteries for such a fancy music box?! It should come with a lithium battery and a charger!" Mag complained. He could feel his vicious tongue stirring.

"In the detailed directions on the description page, it says clearly that the music box is powered by four A size batteries. It's not my fault that you didn't read it. But I can alter it for you if you want. You have four choices to choose from," the system said, its voice still calm.

"Wait…" As Mag watched the four choices pop up in his head, he felt he had been tricked by the system. He hadn't had time to read the directions, and the system had taken advantage of that. He felt a little annoyed.

When he looked through the four choices, he could barely hold back his laughter.

"First: power source alteration. The four A size batteries will be replaced by a fast charging ultra-capacity lithium battery. Three minutes of charging can last the music box three hours. If it's fully charged, it can last it three days. Sale price: 10 gold coins. Accessories: one original charger.

"Second: power source alteration and clothes. Apart from the same service as the first choice, you'll get 10 sets of beautiful clothes for the doll. You can change its clothes just by pushing a button. Sale price: 20 gold coins."

Chapter 92: The Kitten Gets Kicked Out Of Bed Again

The last two ones could even upgrade the music box into a holographic projection device, and their prices were 100 and 200 gold coins, respectively. Mag lifted an eyebrow. "System, can I swear? I'd sooner buy a new one."

"You don't want to do that. If you insult me, you may trigger hidden missions," the system said seriously.

"Fine. You son of a gun." Mag nodded. He was a little tempted to choose the fourth one—a holographic projection device and the doll would be able to perform many dances. But the price made him hesitate. "I choose the first one," he said at last.

Money was of paramount importance right now. Amy was still very interested in the music box, and she hadn't learned the first song, so it wasn't necessary to upgrade it to a holographic projection device.

"10 gold coins has been deducted. Alteration is in progress, and will be finished in five minutes. The battery will be fully charged after the alteration," said the system.

Mag took a look at the counter. The music box had disappeared. I don't need to wait here, since the system will charge it for me. He grabbed the cat, slowly picked Amy up, and walked up the stairs softly.

Amy was sleeping soundly. Mag didn't want to wake her up. He put the two little things on the bed, and then went downstairs to turn off the light.

After he washed up, Mag walked over to the crib. Amy's sleeping face put a smile on his lips.

He had never thought that he would get such a cute little girl. This transportation had been meant to be a punishment, but he found it so rewarding now. He had many beautiful expectations and dreams of the future. The restaurant is a start. I'll blend into Chaos City, and then this multi-species world.

Mag woke up early in the morning. He kicked off his busy day with preparing ingredients. It was only when he became an owner of a restaurant that he realized how early the restaurants providing breakfast had to prepare in advance, and he didn't even have to buy fresh ingredients himself.

Today's business was even better than yesterday. The fact that his roujiamo could help lose weight was really catching on, so many fat customers came today.

The most eye-catching ones were eight rich ladies. They came together, and their bodies were even more marvelous than those of Harrison and his friends. Mag worried about his chairs when they took their seats. Luckily, the chairs, which were 10 gold coins each, withstood their test.

It was quite a view when they ate their roujiamos. The nearby customers gaped at them, mouths open. It was too "good" a scene for Mag to look at.

"Mag, the screen says that the number of days before your rest day is one. Do you not open tomorrow?" a customer asked as he took a roujiamo from Mag's hand.

"No, we don't. We have a rest day every week. We've opened for six days, so tomorrow is our rest day," Mag answered, smiling. He had lost count of how many times he had answered that question.

"I see. I guess I can't take my wife and children here tomorrow," he said disappointedly. Then he thought for a moment, and added, "Your business is so good, and even one day means a lot of money. Some customers might not come again if they came here only to find you were closed. Other restaurants open all year long. Can you adjust?"

"He's right. Mag, your food has made me unable to eat anything else. I would be starved to death tomorrow."

"Mag, we come here every day. Don't do this to us."

Other customers echoed his sentiment. They had grown too addicted to Mag's food to let him rest one day. They were persuading and even threatening him.

Mag shook his head. "You won't die of hunger in one day. It's our rule to have a rest day every week. We only have one cook here—me, and I need time to attend to other business, so we can't open all year long." He rejected them directly.

The customers traded unhappy glances. Mag was pretty adamant, unlike other restaurateurs who always worried about losing regulars when taking a rest day. They would stay in their restaurant all day long if they could. They were not as self-willed as Mag.

They knew very well that Mag had been strictly sticking to his opening hours. They knew that he wouldn't open a minute earlier even if dozens were waiting outside, and that he wouldn't cook another plate after nine even if many were still hungry. So, they were just clutching at straws.

After the last customer walked out, Mag closed the door and sighed with relief. Finally, he could rest tomorrow.

He could understand their wanting to eat delicious food every day, but Amy always came first. He could care less about their unhappiness. They should be grateful that I only rest one day every week, he thought.

Today, he and Amy profited almost the same amount as yesterday. It was the best they could do. Now he only needed to sell another 300 roujiamos to complete his roujiamo mission. He could do it in one day after the rest.

Amy didn't notice the difference in the music box. Now she was able to sing the whole song if she sang along with the elf. She was indeed very talented when it came to music.

The next morning, Amy woke up early. She climbed down her crib and got on Mag's bed. "Father, we're going to the school to see Teacher Luna today, right?" she asked, excited.

Mag, who didn't have to be woken up by the alarm clock today, opened his sleepy eyes and met Amy's big, clear eyes. She had pulled the curtain open a bit. He glanced at the clock—it was already 8 am. He hadn't slept so well for days.

Mag nodded, smiling. "Yes, we don't have to work today. We'll go out after breakfast." He sat up, picked Amy up, and tickled her. She giggled.

Amy also waved her short arms to try to tickle her father. Their laughter resounded through the house.

"Meow, meow…" The kitten jumped around on the floor. It even tried to rear up on its hind legs to see what was going on, but its short legs were not helping. It cried out unhappily. It had been kicked out of bed again.

Mag held Amy in his arms and stood up. "Rise and shine. Time to go. What do you want to wear? How do want me to comb your hair?" he asked, smiling.

Chapter 93: I'm Very Bad-tempered!!!

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Amy thought for a moment. "I want to wear my hair in two braids and wear that purple dress with flowers on the chest and the white shoes. Will I look like Mushroom Fairy?" she asked, looking at Mag.

Mag nodded with a smile. "Yes. You'll be more adorable than Mushroom Fairy. You'll be a fairy yourself." He got out of bed, found Amy's little dress, and helped her put it on. Then he did her hair into two pigtails skillfully. After days of practicing, he had got really dexterous at handling her hair.

Amy still liked the pigtails and showed no intention of changing her hairstyle, so Mag had no chance to show his hairdressing skills.

Amy put on her white shoes and spun in a circle. "Father, do I look beautiful?" she asked as she looked at Mag.

Mag's eyes lit up. "Yes. You're such a pretty little fairy," he answered, nodding. She's even prettier than the elf in the music box.

"Meow…" Ugly Duckling walked over to Amy. It rubbed its little head against her calf. It was a little upset because no one had paid any attention to its cries.

"Ugly Duckling, the dress would be wasted on you. You won't look any better in it." She sighed, stooping down to pick the kitten up.

"Meow, meow…" Ugly Duckling lifted its paws up and widened its eyes as it cried out, trying to prove its cuteness.

"You look even uglier now." Amy forced its head to one side in disgust.

"Meow…" The kitten looked away, its eyes watery.

Mag shook his head, smiling. Another master would have grown very fond of such a cute orange cat, but not Amy. She is teasing it every day and thinking of it as her future roast goose.

Mag washed up, brushed his teeth, and went downstairs. Several customers were leaning on his window, looking inside. Their faces lit up when they saw Mag. Then came the sound of knocking.

Mag frowned. "System, do you have any window shades?" He felt he had to cover his window during closed hours. Their watching made him uncomfortable.

"You don't have the right to make me change the layout of the restaurant right now," the system said solemnly. "You'll have to upgrade the restaurant to lv2 first. Then I'll change it for you for free to a certain degree."

"Measure the size of the floor-to-ceiling window for me please," Mag said calmly.

"It's 6.5 meters long and 3.6 meters tall," answered the system quickly.

Mag nodded. "Then I'd like a right size window shade and tools to hang it up."

"I'll say it again: you don't have the right to make me change the layout of the restaurant for you right now," it said seriously.

"When did I ask you to change the restaurant for me? I just want to buy it. Don't be so overzealous in this kind of stuff. Aren't you a respectable food system?" Mag said sarcastically, his mouth twisting.

"…" An ellipsis went across Mag's head. Then, it said solemnly, "I'm a respectable system. I don't have any window shades."

"Five gold coins?" Mag asked in a calm voice.

"I'm a respectable system," the system repeated.

Mag raised an eyebrow. "Six gold coins. If you don't want to sell, I'll buy a bamboo curtain on the street. It's as good as any." His voice was still calm.

The system fell silent, seeming to be agonizing over it. After a while, it asked tentatively, "A little more?"

"No way." Mag curled his upper lip. And it calls itself a respectable system.

"Pay me four more gold coins and I'll give you a window shade that best matches the restaurant. It's totally automatic. It will block all the unwanted prying eyes and become hidden when you pull it up. A set of tools will come free with the window shade to help you punch holes accurately. It's very easy to install. I'm sure you'll like it." The system made an enticing offer.

Mag shook his head in disappointment. "No thanks. It's too heavy. I can't even lift it up, to say nothing of installing it. I guess I'll go find a better seller who would deliver and install it for me."

The system fell silent again.

Amy took a look at the people who were leaning on the window and knocking at their door, and didn't understand. "Dad, there are customers waiting outside. Isn't today our rest day?" she asked as she looked up at Mag.

"Yes, it is. We don't open today, but they still want to eat here," said Mag, smiling. "Sit, I'll bring you a glass of water, and then make breakfast for us." He turned to walk towards the kitchen.

It's very clear on the signboard. I'll have to explain it to the customers when we leave. They may not be happy to hear it, though.

Mag didn't rush to push the silent system. It was impossible for him to install such a big window shade all by himself; however, he would have to explain away the automatic design if he asked for help. It was best if the system would install it for him.

Amy turned to take a look at her father. "Why won't they let Father rest one day? Besides, we are to see Teacher Luna today," she muttered to herself. Then she clenched her little fist and walked to the door with the kitten in her arms.

Outside their door still stood a dozen customers. Some of them hadn't heard Mag's explanation yesterday, and others had come here on the off chance that Mag might open because of so many customers coming.

Yet it was already past the opening time, and the door was still closed. They saw the rest day countdown on the screen. Some customers left after waiting for a long while; after all, they wouldn't let a breakfast mess up all their arrangements for the day.

Those who had come a long way to arrive here refused to leave without their food, so over 10 people remained. They decided to say something flattering—or menacing, if necessary—to make Mag at least cook one roujiamo for them each.

Sargeras was among the crowd. He had been very lucky to find a more difficult quest yesterday. He had killed three flamingos and had been rewarded with 80 gold coins. He wanted to use some of the money to buy breakfast because he didn't come across a quest like that every day; besides, he had been lucky to finish his quest in such a short time. He had to change his plan of eating 10 roujiamos every meal to eating five.

He had heard Mag's explanation yesterday, but he wanted to come here to try his luck before going to the guild to find a quest. He was standing at the back of the crowd and didn't hurry to walk to the door.

When they heard Mag's footsteps coming downstairs, they all looked to the door with great expectations. They were hoping their enthusiasm would change his mind.

"Ding!"

The door opened slowly. They looked down and saw Amy's long face and the kitten, disappointed.

"We don't open today. Father and I are going to visit Teacher Luna. If you want to eat the delicious rainbow fried rice and roujiamo, come back tomorrow." Then Amy's face darkened as she lifted her hand. "And if you knock again, I'll set you on fire! I'm very bad-tempered!!!"

Chapter 94: Payment Is Negotiable Based On Skills

The crowd became hushed. They looked at one another, and then at Amy, who was holding her little fist up as the kitten curled up in her arms. She narrowed her eyes and pouted her lips to try to look menacing, and they bit back their words when they saw this.

I'd better get going… She looks so cute even when she's angry. Sargeras turned around and left after he glanced at Amy. Looks like I have to settle for some roasted meat. I'll try to find a difficult quest again today. I have to work hard to earn enough money to eat 10 roujiamos every meal.

A girl couldn't help but laugh out. "She is so adorable!"

Some customers had seen Amy burn a lava demon and a royal magic caster's beard. They knew that the magic caster hadn't got angry and wanted to take her on as his disciple.

So, Amy's threatening words worked out pretty well. After all, she even dared to burn a demon, and they were not as strong as the latter. They hesitated for a moment and left when they saw the demon leave without a word.

"Mag really means what he says," one customer said. "And it's pretty smart to let his girl handle this situation. I'm very upset, but I just can't get angry. It's so annoying." He sighed, and then smiled.

"Yes. I've walked over 20 minutes to get here," another one said. "But it's not easy for him to run a restaurant all by himself. He loves his daughter, so it's quite understandable for him to want to spend more time with her."

Several remaining customers, who didn't know what was going on, looked at the adamant Amy, and then at those who had left without hesitation. They paused for a moment and took their leave.

Mag smiled when he came out, holding a glass of water. Such a great little helper. He had thought about how to explain it to them to make them feel better, and had thought that it might take him a while to talk them out of eating here today. He had never expected that Amy's threats would save him so much trouble.

Amy's smile returned when she turned to Mag. "I have sent them away, Dad. They fear me when I get angry," she said with a look saying she was waiting for her father to praise her.

Smiling, Mag nodded. "Yes. Amy is amazing. You've helped me a lot," he said. The little thing was more cute than angry just now, and those customers have fallen for her cuteness.

Amy nodded happily. "Thank you, Dad. I'll help you more." She took the glass and drank some water. Then she looked down at the kitten in her arms. "Father, are we taking Ugly Duckling with us? It's so ugly, it might scare Teacher Luna. Can I leave it at home?"

"Meow, meow!" the kitten cried out immediately, looking up at Amy, its eyes imploring and unhappy.

Mag shook his head. "Ugly Duckling hasn't eaten anything yet, so we'll take it with us and buy some milk for it on our way there," he said. And I think Miss Field will like it.

The kitten is only a little bigger than a grown man's palm. It's a cute little orange cat. Maybe the name 'Ugly Duckling' left a bad first impression on her, so she finds it ugly. But, she has been pretty nice to it these days.

Amy nodded. "Oh." Then she turned to her cat. "You must cover your face when we meet Teacher Luna. I don't want you to scare her or those little kids," she warned.

Ugly Duckling nodded eagerly, trying to look like it had understood.

After breakfast, Mag found the little basket that the herb collector had given him and put the baby bottle and a soft towel in it so that Amy could use it to hold the kitten when she got tired. They could also put in it the things they bought on the road. Then, they left.

Mag was wearing a long charcoal gray gown, which was very common in this world. It was somewhat like Hanfu 1 , only that it didn't have so many layers and was simpler and neater. After all, danger lurked around every corner in this world. It was better to fight and run in something simple and comfortable.

Mag's long gown had been made specially by the system. It was a customized one, so it fitted quite well, and the cotton the system had used was much more comfortable than the linen-cotton in this world. He cut quite a figure in it, and the charcoal gray color made him look even more mature and responsible. Only the small basket in his hand was a little hilarious.

When they walked past the magic potion shop, Amy teased Black Coal and Green Pea as usual.

Ugly Duckling was a little hostile to the obnoxious crow, but it wasn't able to jump high enough to reach Amy's knee, let alone the birdcage which hung as high as a grown man's head, so it just growled with anger.

Mag nodded at Urien with a smile, and left with Amy.

"Father, are we going to the school right now?" Amy asked, looking up at Mag.

Mag shook his head, smiling. "No. I have to deal with some business first, and then we'll go to the school." He had some other business to take care of other than finding an employee in a job agency.

Amy nodded. "Okay." She wanted nothing more than to sing for Teacher Luna right now, but she had to listen to her father.

Job agencies were called job-finding services in this world. They came into being when Chaos City became prosperous. They had expanded their services from finding workers and adventurers for workshops and guilds, respectively, to almost any professions. One could even find a nurse there.

They stopped at a job-finding service called "Find All Job-finding Service". It was about 20 square meters. On the outside stood two oblong wooden boards, on which were stuck several pieces of paper, and on the paper were job descriptions, employees needed, and salaries. Most of the salaries were negotiable.

Mag looked through the paper. Workshops were looking for workers, and adventurer groups were looking for special adventurers to do certain quests. The latter should be put up in the adventurers' guild; nonetheless, they were here.

There was a section for job ads looking for waiters/waitresses and nurses. The average monthly salary for a waiter/waitress was 3000 copper coins, and their meals were free. They had to work from early morning to late night. It was one of the typical jobs that had long working hours and low salary.

These job ads were all quite ordinary. However, when Mag shifted his gaze to the bottom right corner, the look on his face became a little strange.

"Looking for a girlfriend—a succubus or an elf. Daily salary: at least five gold coins. Payment is negotiable based on prettiness and skills."

"Looking for a demon muscleman who looks scary and can withstand the magic attacks from a 3rd-tier magic caster. The scarier, the better!"

"Looking for a handsome, lovely boy—an elf or a human—who should be good-looking, thoughtful, and can have s*x with me seven times a day. Daily salary: at least 10 gold coins. Payment is negotiable based on skills!"

Chapter 95: Different Kinds Of Waitresses

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Mag lifted an eyebrow. What the hell?! This agency even goes as low as to look for female and male escorts for its clients?

Although it was still early in the morning, this job-finding service was crammed with various species—humans, orcs, demons, and even elves. They were all staring at the wall covered with ads. Every once in a while, someone would call out a number, and then the one that had been called would talk more with a worker here. It seemed they were all looking for a job, and they got along well with each other.

A voluptuous succubus walked towards the job-finding service. She gave Mag the glad eye, but Mag showed no interest. She took back her gaze and turned to look at the special section. Her eyes lit up. "Hey, I'd like to be this one's girlfriend. I think I can earn 10 gold coins a night," she shouted towards the door.

"Coming," a voice answered immediately. Then, a middle-aged bald man with a mustache trotted out. He took a glance at Mag and Amy first, and then walked over to the succubus with a smile. "Miss Barbar, I think you can earn 15 gold coins a night with your skills. Come on in and register. We'll inform the client today, and maybe you can start working tonight."

She nodded. "Thank you." Then she whipped her scarlet hair towards Mag and walked inside, wiggling her sweet body.

Mag frowned at her cheap perfume. He had seen all kinds of women in his previous life, and most despised those who felt good wearing heavy makeup.

His taste in women had changed several times as he aged, but he had never seen attraction in this kind of women. He even found them repulsive. The succubus he had met before was much better, but he wasn't attracted to her.

"Humph!" Amy gave the succubus a wary look and lowered her hand. This white-faced woman even tried to seduce Father. If she dared to come closer, I'd let her taste my fireball.

"Good morning. I'm Crease, the owner of this job-finding service. Can I help you with anything?" said the middle-aged bald man, smiling at Mag and Amy.

The cute half-elf girl startled him. By the look of him, he should be wealthy, he thought.

And he has a half-elf daughter. That means he is very wealthy. After all, it's difficult for a man to marry an elf girl, and even more difficult for him to wander around with a half-elf daughter. He must have an outrageous amount of money.

"I'm looking for a waitress for my restaurant." At first, Mag thought this job-finding service was a little despicable. Then he remembered he was in a different world. It's nothing compared to the red-light districts on Aden Square. This agency is pretty big, so they should have more resources.

Crease nodded. "Do you have any specific requirements?" he asked. "We have three kinds of waitresses. We have the ones that are normal-looking, work hard, and ask for a low salary; we have the ones that are relatively good-looking, work diligently, and ask for a moderate salary; lastly, the ones that are good-looking and ask for a high salary. The good-looking ones include three species: humans, succubi, and elves. They demand a short working time and a not heavy workload."

Mag raised an eyebrow. "So the salary is based on prettiness?" he asked. The good-looking ones don't need to work hard to get well paid. I guess pretty ones get all the advantages in this world.

"A pretty waitress can raise a restaurant's earnings by much, especially a good-looking progressive succubus. She will double your profit on drinks, so it's a pretty good investment," he said softly. Then, he smiled, and added, "Besides, many good-looking waitresses don't mind having an affair with young restaurateurs. You can hire another two hard-working waitresses to do your work. Sounds good, right?"

Mag shook his head slightly. "Can I look at the relatively good-looking ones' files?" He understood very well what Crease meant, but he had never thought about using several voluptuous waitresses to attract customers. He disdained to do that. What he really needed was a very diligent waitress of few words. Of course, she had to be relatively good-looking at least. He didn't want her ruining his customers' appetite.

He didn't mind giving her a high salary as long as she could meet his requirements. His business was booming, so an employee's salary was nothing compared to her contributions toward improving efficiency. He didn't need useless but good-looking waitresses.

Crease nodded. "Of course. Please come in. Our reception room is on the second floor. You can read their files there. Take your time." He led Mag and Amy into the building.

Half an hour later, Mag walked out with Amy disappointedly. There were indeed many applicants, but no one was to his liking. They were either too old or too plain. He wanted his employee to have a vibe that matched his restaurant. He wanted to improve his guests' dining experience.

Crease walked out after them. "I'll keep my eyes open, Mag. I'll contact you as soon as I find someone suitable," he said, smiling. It doesn't seem like he has come looking for trouble, or I would throw him out. He wasted me a half hour!

Mag nodded. "Thank you."

"Goodbye, Mr. Nest," Amy said, waving her little hand.

His mouth twitched. "Good… Goodbye," he said, smiling. What the heck is Mr. Nest?

Mag and Amy went to the market and bought some sheep milk for the kitten, and then he took her to an information-collecting shop owned by a human. It was like a private detective agency. He spent 10 gold coins hiring the owner to collect detailed information on Krassu and Urien.

Both old men wanted to take Amy in as their disciple, so he decided to find out who they really were first.

Mag didn't have time to do it himself. Apparently, it was not a bad choice to hire a professional to do this job. He only needed to sell several roujiamos to earn the money he needed to hire a professional, so why would he do the legwork himself?

"Father, can we go to the school now?" Amy asked, looking up at Mag. They had been to two places, and the kitten was close to sleeping.

Mag nodded with a smile. "Yes. Let's go to the school." He helped Amy put the kitten in the basket. The little thing went out like a light when it touched the soft towel.

Chapter 96: Chaos School

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Chaos School was an educational institution under the Gray Temple. It consisted of two sections—primary section and secondary section. Children went to either of the two sections based on their age and skills.

Students between 5 to 12 years old were educated at the primary section. They would study rudimentary knowledge, common language, arithmetic, etc.

Meanwhile, their special talents and skills would also be developed there, like magic skills, observing skills, calculating skills… Prior to entering the secondary section, they would be tested first, and those who passed the test would gain the right to receive further education at the secondary section.

If they couldn't pass the test before they turned 12, they would be forced to leave the Chaos School. In fact, five out of six students would be expelled.

After they graduated from the secondary section, most of them would join the Gray Temple. Their skills and loyalty would become the fresh blood in maintaining the governance of the Gray Temple.

Mag wasn't averse to this educational system, because every graduate had the right to choose whether to join the Gray Temple or not.

Of course, they had to pass another test first. It reminded him of the civil service system in his previous life.

The best thing about the Chaos School was probably that it was the first to bring knowledge to the city.

The interaction between species had promoted the integration of human language and elf language, and thus the common language had appeared and become widely used.

Yet it wasn't easy for other species to master this language, so even Haga, a chief's son, was barely able to use the common language to communicate.

The primary section of the Chaos School received over 1,000 students each year, and the yearly tuition was only 5 gold coins, which was a lot less than other schools' tuition fee—at least 50 gold coins a year.

Moreover, students from different species studied together in the Chaos School. It was very common for a human child to sit next to a demon, an elf, a dwarf, or a troll, which was a unique scene that one could only find here, in Chaos City.

After a hundred years of development, Chaos City had achieved peace and harmony, and all of this would be impossible without the Gray Temple and the Chaos School. When two people from different species met on the road, they might recognize each other as classmates or schoolmates, so the hatred faded gradually.

And the people here had a much higher educational level. They also contributed a lot to the peace here.

Mag and Amy were standing at the gate of this large Chaos School, and school was not over yet. An old man and a big orc standing at the gate had declined their request to enter. They had to contact Luna after school, and only then they could enter.

Mag took a look at the big clock outside the gate. "Looks like we're too early," he said. It's 10:30 am. The third class isn't over. We have to wait till around 11:30.

Amy glanced at the grim-faced orc and tugged at Mag's clothes. "Father, we can sneak in," she said quietly.

Mag was taken by surprise. "Sneak in?"

Amy nodded. "Yes. There is a secret passage. I have used it many times."

10 minutes later, Mag turned to look at the hole covered by thick tree branches and stroked Amy's head with a smile. Such a smart girl.

"I know which classroom Teacher Luna is in. This way, Father." She grabbed Mag's finger and walked to the left quickly.

Mag could see that Amy really wanted to see Miss Field, so he followed her without question. She has watched from outside the classroom before, so I guess it doesn't matter much.

The teaching buildings were built of stone and wood, two-storied, and had walls made of black square stones. The roofs and second floors were made of wood. There were windows in two walls to let in as much sunlight as possible.

The sound of students' reading came floating out of every building. All the teaching buildings had been painted sky blue and grass green, looking lively and fresh. Some walls had children's paintings on them—paintings of different cultures. Such a harmonious sight!

The man who founded the Gray Temple must be quite a visionary. Through these paintings, Mag seemed to see the future that this visionary had pictured.

Start from Chaos City, and spread the idea of integration. When the whole continent is truly integrated, the war among species will probably never occur again.

This idea coincides with mine. If the whole continent is integrated, the number of hybrids will inevitably increase, and when they become a large part of the whole continent, the discrimination against them will naturally disappear. The thought brought a smile to Mag's face. Maybe I could witness the rise of a new era, and it would be nice if I could give it a little boost.

"Father, why are you laughing?" Amy asked, a little confused. She thought a moment, and said, "I know. You're happy to see Teacher Luna too."

"Maybe you're right." The sound of children's reading put Mag in a good mood.

The atmosphere here is really nice. When Amy is old enough next year, I'll have her study here. She'll have a much better time here rather than staying home with me. She has mastered her fireball magic, so I don't think anyone will dare to bully her.

Amy nodded. "Me too. I'm super excited." Then she put a finger on her lips as she pointed to the building nearby. "Teacher Luna teaches in this classroom. Let's get closer quietly."

Mag nodded and said nothing. He stepped softly and followed Amy slowly to the window.

Below the windowsill were two black rocks. Amy hesitated a moment and stepped on them. Now she was just as high as the windowsill.

Mag looked at the two rocks with surprise. Seems like someone put them here for Amy. They're perfect for her, and there are none below other windowsills.

Luna's voice came out of the classroom. It was such a sweet and comfortable voice that it could easily attract children's attention.

She was teaching the multiplication of one-digit numbers. They didn't have the 99 table or the decimal system, so it was not easy to do multiplication. Even Mag couldn't understand her method of multiplying seven by nine. Poor kids…

Amy listened attentively, her eyes shining in excitement.

Mag stood behind her, listening quietly. It's not cool to disturb her. I should be careful not to make any sound.

"Meow…" the kitten cried out.

Chapter 97: Why Is It Called Ugly Duckling?

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Mag looked down. The kitten was already awake. It looked up at Amy and cried out a few more times, each time louder than the previous. Damn!

The classroom fell silent immediately. Luna looked to the window, thinking that some wildcat had distracted her students.

But her face lit up when she saw Amy. She strode towards the door quickly.

"It's Amy! Hello! Wow, I like your hair," a window-seat girl wearing her hair in a mushroom bowl said delightedly as she looked at Amy, her eyes shining with excitement.

"Shush, Daphne. Don't talk to me or say my name during class," Amy said immediately.

"Why are you here again? I don't like seeing you here," a demon child said solemnly. On his head was a blade of grass like a mung bean sprout, and his hair was in a mess.

"Shut up, Ignatsu! Or I'll pluck out your bean sprout again!" Daphne said aggressively, glaring back at the little demon.

"I'm not afraid of you," he replied, but he leaned back.

"Ugly Duckling, stop crying! Or I'll roast you!" Amy snapped.

The kitten had been afraid of this sentence since it was an egg. It became silent right away, cowering and shivering in the little basket.

Mag petted its hair, trying to comfort it. The possibility of getting roasted may hang over its head forever.

Luna walked out with a smile, holding a piece of chalk. "Amy, you're—" The sight of Mag holding a basket startled her before she could finish her words.

"Teacher Luna, I'm here to attend your class and to see you. And I want to sing for you," Amy said to Luna, giving her a big smile. Then she took a look into the classroom and became a little upset. "But I seemed to have disturbed the class."

"I'm sorry. I brought her here. And I apologize for the cat," Mag said apologetically as he stroked Amy's hair.

Luna was wearing a powder blue dress and the same white silky scarf embroidered with a golden lily flower today. Apparently, she really liked that scarf. Her smile was so gentle when she looked at Amy.

"Don't worry. The kitten has intrigued the kids. It's been days since you last came here. They all miss you," Luna said, looking at Amy's depressed face and her father, who tried to take all the blame on himself. Then she took Amy by the hand, and added softly, "Come on. Introduce us to your little friend, and sing your song for me and the class."

Mag gazed at Luna. Right now, her face seemed to be shining with love and care. Her kind encouragement moved him. She is a good teacher.

Amy's eyes brightened. "Really?" She came down from the rocks, looking at Luna's smiling face full of encouragement. Then she took the kitten out of the basket and turned to Mag. "Father, I… I want to…"

Mag gave Amy an encouraging smile and nodded. "Go, Amy. You can do it."

Luna glanced at Mag, surprised. It's not very common for a father to be so sensitive to his child. He knows what his girl wants and how to encourage her.

The sight of Mag reminded her of the roujiamo she had had that day, and her heart started racing. Although she had felt a little abashed, the Yangzhou fried rice and roujiamo had been really good. If she hadn't spent all her money she had received from home on the kids, she might have tried them one more time.

He is such a good cook! She had never eaten anything better before. The thought of the good food made her mouth water despite herself.

"Okay," Amy said. Mag's encouragement put confidence on Amy's face immediately. She walked into the classroom with Luna.

Mag stood by the window, smiling and gazing at Amy who was in a purple dress, holding Ugly Duckling in her arms.

She was no longer that shabby little girl, and he wanted her to be more confident.

"You haven't seen Amy for many days. Did you miss her?" Luna asked the children, smiling.

"Yes! I do!" Daphne shouted immediately. Amy looks so different with her beautiful hairstyle and new dress.

Ignatsu shook his head. "Not really." But he couldn't divert his eyes away from Amy. Why is she suddenly so pretty? She's like a china doll.

Other kids were all staring at Amy out of curiosity. She used to be so ragged and her hair was always messy. How has she become so beautiful all of a sudden? She is even more adorable than the elf next door.

When they saw Ugly Duckling in Amy's arms, their eyes widened in delight. It's so fluffy, so small, and so cute! I want to hold it and give it a stroke. And it's white and orange, cuter than those black or white cats.

For the first time, Amy had received so much admiration and envy. She was nervous, but also happy. They didn't look at her with disgust and pity any more. She felt so good that she smiled.

Luna was also smiling. She had tried to build up her confidence, but every time the little girl got picked on, she got more frustrated and less confident.

It's only been a few days. Amy seems to have changed completely, not just on the outside, but on the inside as well. She seems to have become stronger and more sure of herself. She has stopped worrying about her being different from others.

No one else but Mag has brought about this change.

Why does he suddenly seem like a different man, starting to care about Amy? she wondered.

"Amy has brought a new friend with her today, and she wanted to sing a song for us," Luna said, smiling, giving Amy an encouraging look.

Holding the kitten in her arms, she said, "This is Ugly Duckling, my…" Then she paused a moment, trying to figure out what it was to her. "Father said it will become a swan when it grows up. Now I think it's my pet."

"A swan?" The children became really intrigued. They gazed at the orange cat in Amy arms, and didn't know what was ugly about this cute cat. It doesn't even look like a duck. And it will become a swan?

"Why is it called Ugly Duckling?" Daphne asked curiously.

Chapter 98: I Know The Answer To This Multiplication Problem

"Because it's so ugly," Amy replied directly. Then, she added, "Besides, it came out of an egg. I've never seen such an ugly duckling."

"It came out of an egg? If it's a duckling, then it's really very ugly!"

"Yes. It looks like a kitten, though. Weird. No wonder it's different from normal kittens. But it's so cute."

Amy's explanation made them quickly accept the idea that Ugly Duckling was really a very ugly duckling. It's a duckling, but it looks like a kitten, so it's indeed not a good-looking duckling. But it's so cute.

"Meow!" Ugly Duckling retorted helplessly.

Luna looked at the kitten in Amy's arms. It was so cute and so fluffy that she wanted to hold it too. But she didn't think that it would grow into a swan. Looks like Mag is wrong.

"I want to sing a song for you and Teacher Luna…" The children's recognition really raised Amy's confidence. She took a glance at Mag smiling outside the window, and continued, "It's called 'a little girl with mushrooms.'"

"I don't think she can sing any songs," Ignatsu muttered in a low voice. Daphne gave him an angry glare, and he immediately fell silent, but he still didn't believe that Amy could sing anything nice.

"Go ahead, Amy. I can't wait to hear it," Luna said, smiling.

"A little girl goes to collect mushrooms, she carries a big bamboo basket…" Amy sang carefully, holding Ugly Duckling in her arms.

All the children were attracted by the merry song and Amy's soft voice. The sound struck love into their hearts and brought merry smiles onto their faces.

Mag looked at the little kids lost in her song, and then at Amy, feeling very proud. My daughter is really amazing. This was the first time he had heard her sing the whole song. She had sung unaccompanied, but her childish voice was so pleasant to the ear that he found she sang even better than the music box.

"Wonderful!" Ignatsu exclaimed, his eyes widened, his bean sprout cheerfully waving side to side.

"Amy's so incredible," Daphne said, resting her chin in her hands. She was extremely fond of Amy.

The looks on other children's faces were almost the same. They were very surprised at Amy's sudden change. Then their surprise changed into envy and admiration. She's really incredible.

Luna was also taken by surprise. Such a good song! But why have I never heard it before? Is it a local children's song? She had thought that Amy would sing a song that she had taught her, and never expected to hear a tune that even she didn't know. She couldn't help but take a glance at Mag. Did he teach Amy this song?

After she had finished, Amy looked down at the children, abashed and expectant. She didn't know how she had performed.

"Bravo!" Ignatsu said, clapping his hands. Then the other children cheered and clapped.

Amy smiled happily. It was the first time that she had been recognized by so many people, and they were her peers, no less. She felt so delighted.

Luna nodded, smiling. "Yes. Amy sang very well. Thank you, Amy, for your excellent performance."

Amy nodded cheerfully. "It's my pleasure." Then she saw the problem on the blackboard. She hesitated a moment. "Teacher Luna, I know the answer to this multiplication problem," she said, looking up at Luna.

Luna froze for an instant. "Yes?" She took a look at the 78 on the board. I have just taught them how to do this multiplication today. It's very complicated, and only few who are good at arithmetic have learned how to do it. Amy was not here these days, so it's impossible for her to know the answer.

"I don't think so. It's very difficult. Only I know how to do it," a little boy in blue and white said from the first row, pride written all over his face.

"I find it easy," Amy said solemnly, gazing at the boy.

"I don't believe you! Solve it if you think it's easy," the boy said defiantly. Only a few can do it, and she said it's easy? I don't believe her.

Other children had similar looks on their faces. She can't do it. Only Teacher Luna and a math genius like Parmer know how to solve such a difficult problem.

Mag found their sudden argument surprising and amusing. Amy has already mastered the 99 table, so it's very easy for her to solve this problem.

It's about time they felt the power of the 99 table.

Luna wanted to say something to lighten the atmosphere. Amy has just become confident; I don't want her to get back to her old self.

"The answer is 56," Amy said calmly, looking at Parmer.

Did she get it right? the children wondered. Luna hadn't told them the answer yet, so they all looked to their teacher and Parmer.

Parmer rose quickly to his feet. "How… How… How do you know?!" He looked at Amy and then at the answer on his exercise book, shocked.

Amy gave a slight nod. "By calculating."

"The answer is 56." Luna was no less surprised than her students. I know Amy's studying progress better than anyone. There's no way she can solve that problem. But she gave the correct answer without having to use paper and a pen. Did he tell her the answer while they were outside? she wondered.

"Great! Amy has got it right!" Daphne exclaimed, smiling happily.

Ignatsu gazed at Amy with a strange look on his face as if he were seeing her for the first time. How has she become as clever as Parmer all of a sudden?

After Luna told them the answer, the looks on the children's faces changed instantly. We don't know how to do it, but she only needs to take a glance to know the answer. She might be even cleverer than Parmer.

"I don't believe her. She must have got lucky," Parmer said. "Teacher Luna, please give us five more problems, and let's see who can work out the answers faster." He felt his position as a math genius was in danger.

"As you wish," Amy said coldly.

Luna had planned to de-escalate the situation. She took a look at Mag, who was very calm, and nodded after hesitating a moment. Then she wrote five multiplication problems on the blackboard.

Chapter 99: Yes, You Lose

Parmer resumed his seat. He looked at the five problems on the blackboard, and said to Amy confidently, "I'll count to three and then we start. The one finishing them faster wins. One…"

"64, 42, 72, 48, 63. I've finished," Amy said calmly, looking at the board.

Parmer had just counted to three. Before he could close his mouth and write down the problems, Amy had finished.

The classroom fell silent. They didn't know if Amy had got all of them right, but she was unmistakably a lot faster than Parmer. Amy gave the answers before Parmer even started calculating. They all looked to their teacher, waiting for her to tell them the correct answers.

"Did you just say some random numbers?" Parmer asked, incredulous.

"I have calculated," Amy said seriously, looking at Luna.

Luna looked at the board and gave the answers. "64, 42, 72, 48, 63. Amy's answers are correct!" Her voice rose a little in astonishment.

Of course, these problems were easy to her, but even she had to calculate in her head to know the answers. It seems Amy knows the answers without having to think. Maybe only a genius can calculate this fast!

"Amy's really amazing!" Daphne exclaimed. She had just said what other kids wanted to say. Parmer is incredible, but now it seems Amy is even more incredible than him.

"Holy moley! I can't play with her anymore. All good-grade children are nuts," Ignatsu said in fright, shaking his head disappointedly.

For a while, Parmer didn't say anything. Then he nodded solemnly. "I lose," he said. "Father said, win or lose, a man must always act like a man, especially before a woman.

Although maybe Father only said that to comfort himself because he is often beaten by Mother and doesn't dare to hit back, I still think he has a point.

Amy nodded. "Yes, you lose." Her voice wasn't too proud, but she sounded as if she had seen it coming.

Her tone frustrated Parmer even more.

She's so incredible! That was many children's only thought about Amy. The shabby little girl has become even cleverer than Parmer.

Mag smiled. Our 99 table is beyond compare! Then he looked at the gentlemanly boy. His face looks familiar, but I can't remember where I've seen him.

The bell rang. The children immediately put this entire incident behind them and couldn't wait for Luna to say "class dismissed".

"All right. Class dismissed," she said, not prolonging the class. Right now, Luna had a lot of questions on her mind. She took Amy by the hand and walked out of the classroom. "I'm sorry, Mag. Can I ask you a few questions?" she said. "If you don't mind, can we talk in my office?"

Mag nodded, smiling. "Okay." He had something to ask her too.

After they arrived at her office, Luna gave Amy a candy and had her play by herself on a chair nearby. She wasn't able to hold back her questions any longer.

"How did Amy learn to do those problems so quickly in such a short time? I taught her a multiplication table before, but it has so many terms, she didn't memorize them all. There's no way she can solve those problems so quickly using that multiplication table."

"I taught her a new multiplication table and a new numeral system. It's much easier, so she could work out those answers so quickly." Mag didn't lie, because he trusted Luna, and there was no need to hide something like this.

It would be interesting to see the 99 table dominate this world.

War might be the fastest way to achieve integration, but it would also cause the most problems. It would be much better if culture could promote integration.

Luna's eyes lit up immediately. "A new numeral system?" She had thought Amy had studied harder under Mag these days.

If this much easier numeral system really exists, it will be a milestone in the mathematics' world! Her hands started shaking with excitement. "Mag, is this system universal?" she asked solemnly.

Mag nodded. "Yes, I think so," he said. It has been used in China for thousands of years, so of course it's universal.

But it would be impractical to just rely on Luna to spread this system. We need to involve a much larger institution, like the Gray Temple.

"Teacher Luna, Father is really incredible," Amy said, holding Ugly Duckling in her arms, the look on her face very proud.

"Mag, I know it's too forward, but can I have a look at this new system of yours?" Luna asked earnestly. "If you plan to publish it, maybe I can help. My grandfather is one of the educational officials in the Roth Empire. I can't tell you his name, but he is dedicated to spreading knowledge of arithmetics. Our numeral system is too complicated, so not many people have the patience to learn it, and even less have mastered it. In Chaos School, every year only half the children can pass the arithmetic test when they finish their studying in the primary section.

"If your system is easier and universal, I'm sure he'll be glad to help. Your name will live in the arithmetic history."

It was all well and good to be able to live in history, but Mag didn't want to be so conspicuous right now. The name Mag Alex had been a thorn in the flesh of many people in Rodu. If he stuck out now, a lot of people would be provoked.

He was a little surprised to find that Luna's grandfather was an educational official. He had thought she was just a lady from a normal noble family.

Most of the people in Mag Alex's life had been military men, so he didn't know many officials from other departments. Now that I think about it, the name Field does ring a bell. I seem to recall that an old man from a royal banquet was a Field. We had a drink together. He could drink a lot. Maybe he and Luna are related.

Mag nodded, smiling. "Sure. I can show you the numeral system. But can I use the name Mamy instead of mine?" It was a perfect chance to advertise his restaurant.

If they name such epoch-making numeral system and the 99 table after a restaurant, I wonder what the kids here will think when they study the Mamy table,Mag thought.

Luna nodded. "Sure," she said. It's too early to talk about this sort of thing. I have to see the system first.

Chapter 100: Roasted Meat Restaurant

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Mag nodded. He asked for a pen and paper and wrote down the 99 table. In order to explain it better, he wrote down the whole 81 terms. Then he explained the decimal system in detail.

People here were using the sexagesimal system, and it had more than 1,700 terms, so the multiplication and division of two-digit numbers and more were extremely complicated. One would be considered a mathematics expert here if he or she was able to do the division of three-digit numbers and more.

So, before spreading the 99 table, this complicated system had to be replaced. History has proved that the decimal system invented by the Chinese sages was the simplest and most universal system. This system and the 99 table together were enough to solve most of the mathematical problems in life. It was an era in which the ancient Chinese dominated the whole world in arithmetic.

Luna watched beside Mag, her eyes bright and her mouth wide. She was an arithmetics teacher, and grew up in an arithmetical family. She could see what Amy hadn't seen.

Although she couldn't fully understand the decimal system, Mag's simple and ingenious explanation had helped her see the excellence of this system. She saw infinite possibilities in this system and the catchy 99 table.

"Mag, I don't know if your system is universal, but you're undoubtedly a genius," Luna said earnestly as she watched Mag put down the pen.

Smiling, Mag shook his head. "I'm not a genius. I just know a little more than you." He didn't know what effect the wisdom of the ancient sages would have on this world.

"I'll have it delivered to Rodu as soon as possible. I don't have the ability to verify it or assess its value, but I'm sure it will cause quite a stir in the arithmetic world. And the word 'Mamy' won't be forgotten." Luna found Mag modest and courteous. He's a great cook, and a genius in arithmetic. He would even use the word 'Mamy' to sign such a great discovery. Talk about spoiling a child.

Such an interesting and mysterious man! Is there anything he can't do?

Amy gazed at Mag, eyes shining. Even Teacher Luna said Dad is a genius. Dad is indeed amazing.

Mag nodded, smiling. I don't think they have the concept of thesis or patent in this world, and I don't plan on using this to make money. It will be our awesome advertisement.

He didn't come here to teach the 99 table. He remembered his mission of finding a magic teacher for Amy. "Miss Field, I've come here with Amy to visit you, and I have a question. Can the magic teachers here teach a student outside school hours? Amy is interested in magic, but she's not old enough to be enrolled, so I want to hire a teacher to teach her some basic knowledge about magic."

Luna shook her head regretfully. "I'm afraid they can't. Teachers here are not allowed to provide paid lessons outside school, or they will be dismissed." Then she took a look at Amy, and added, "Amy can study here next year, but she won't be able to get access to magic knowledge until she gets older. After her magic talent is confirmed by a magic teacher, she will be taught with other kids like her."

Never thought Mag would come here personally to find a private magic teacher for Amy, thought Luna.

"I see. Thank you, Miss Field." Mag was a little disappointed, but he was powerless against their rules. His plans had fallen through. Now he had to find another way.

"Amy is young. There is no need to rush to learn magic. It's very dull," Luna said, smiling at Amy.

Amy shook her head. "Teacher Luna, I love magic. I think it's very interesting."

Mag and Amy stayed in Luna's office for a while before they left. When they walked through the gate, the old man and the orc gaped at them with confusion. They didn't know when they had entered.

I have to have it delivered to my grandfather now. It may prove to be an important turning point in his cause of spreading the knowledge of arithmetics. He will be very interested in him. Luna watched Mag leave by the window, excited. Then she strode to the table, picked up the two pieces of paper, put them in her pocket carefully, and walked out.

"Father, are we going back home now?" Amy asked as she looked up at Mag, holding his finger. She was in a good mood today. Her song had been praised by the children, and she had beaten Parmer with the 99 table her father taught her. She didn't feel inferior to them anymore.

Mag shook his head. "No. Now that we're out here, we should enjoy ourselves. Let's go find lunch." Staying at his restaurant every day was boring, and it was just lunchtime, so he walked towards a pretty busy roasted meat restaurant with Amy. Let me see what this restaurant has to offer.

Ugly Duckling had fallen asleep again. Mag had covered it with the towel, so no one would know what was inside the basket unless it cried out.

The aroma of the roasted meat tickled their noses the moment they walked in. However, Mag frowned. There is a smell of mutton in that aroma. The spice is too pungent; it smells even stronger than pepper.

"Father, are we eating roasted meat?" Amy's eyes were shining with excitement. She had never had roasted meat before.

Mag was hesitating, debating whether to stay or not. The expectant look on Amy's face helped him make up his mind. He nodded. "Yes." They seated themselves by a window.

This restaurant was quite popular on Aden Square, almost as popular as the Fryer Tavern. People always lined up here at dinner time. Even during lunch, the room with over 20 tables was almost full.

Mag took a look at the plate on the table nearby. The mutton had been cut into pieces, a little black. On the surface was some black sauce and seasoning. Two customers were enjoying their meat, talking and laughing, seeming pretty satisfied with the food.

The sauce is not even on the meat, the timing of the seasoning was wrong, the temperature of the fire was too high, the meat has been overcooked. Did an assistant cook make that? One look at the dish and Mag wanted to criticize it.

Smile, I'm an owner of a restaurant now. If I can't control my vicious tongue, I may be recognized, and they may think I came here to look for trouble. Mag calmed himself down, opened the menu, and ordered a plate of mutton and a plate of beef. These were the most expensive ones on the menu, each plate 88 copper coins.

Mag lifted an eyebrow. Now I understand the looks on their faces when they see our menu. The cheapest was a set meal for children, 20 copper coins, even cheaper than his egg!

Chapter 101: Is She The Little Match Girl?

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

After a short while, two plates of roasted meat were brought to their table, and they got a pot of tea for free.

"Father, can we eat now?" Amy asked as she looked at the mutton before her, her eyes shining with excitement.

Mag nodded with a smile. "Yes, go ahead. But be careful. It's hot." Then he turned to the beef on his plate.

This beef was somewhat like a beef kebab without skewer, and also like a steak that had been cut and then roasted. The unpleasant odor of beef was not as strong as mutton, but the sauce had been applied roughly; the seasonings had been sprinkled too soon and got burnt by the fire, smelling pungent.

Mag had become so accustomed to fine meals that his first impression of this beef was awful. The kebabs on the street were better than this.

Amy nodded. "Okay." She forked a piece of mutton with effort, blew at it a few times, took a bite, and chewed on it happily. She looked so lovely eating it.

"Is it good?" Mag asked with a smile. He had no appetite, but seeing that Amy was enjoying it, he became a little intrigued.

Amy nodded and swallowed. "Yes. It's good, but not as good as Father's rainbow fried rice and roujiamo. When can you cook roasted meat for me, Dad?" she asked expectantly.

Mag nodded, smiling. "Later, Amy." He also looked forward to eating kebabs with Amy in his own restaurant, but he didn't know when the system would release the recipe. His hands were tied.

Perhaps I should have Amy eat her meals when guests have arrived. She can make everything look enticing when she's eating. The pancake looked like something divine in her hands. She would attract more customers than anyone's yelling, Mag thought, watching Amy eating happily. Maybe I can give it a try when launching the new dish. No one can do better than Amy in attracting customers.

Mag was a little hungry after a busy morning. The appearance of this meat wasn't very good, but the look on Amy's face intrigued him. He forked a piece of beef into his mouth, chewed several times, and frowned.

The meat must have been roasted in advance so that it could be served on short notice. But it has been overcooked, it's too chewy.

The sauce is unbelievable, in a bad way. I don't know how many seasonings have been added into it—Sichuan pepper, sugar, salt, ginger juice… and the ratio is so wrong. The taste of the seasonings is so strong that it has overwhelmed the taste of the meat. My mouth and tongue are a little numb.

Customers who like the strong taste of seasonings may like this. They like anything with a lot of seasonings.

Once, Mag would have already left, but Amy was eating roasted meat for the first time, and she was really enjoying it. He didn't want to ruin her appetite. So, he put his fork down softly, poured himself a cup of tea, and took a sip.

Mag's eyes widened instantly. It tastes a little sour and sweet, like lemon juice. It's clear and yellowish, like honey water. The tea soothed his numb and tingling mouth quickly. He drank some more.

"Excuse me, what is this water?" Mag asked as a waitress walked by.

"It's green citrus water," she answered, smiling.

Mag nodded. "Oh. Thank you." He didn't know what green citrus was, but he really liked this water. I should buy some at a fruit shop. Maybe I can serve this water too. Sometimes his customers were thirsty after eating fried rice and roujiamo, and a customer had asked for boiled water once.

"I have to warn you, you're not allowed to sell any food or beverages that are not on the menu!" the system said seriously.

Mag smiled. "Who said anything about selling beverages? I won't charge them a single coin."

"…" An ellipsis went across Mag's head. After a while, the system shouted, "Your actions will be considered a serious defiance of me! You're lowering the style of the restaurant! You're bringing dishonor to yourself! You're—"

"System, do you sell green citrus?" Mag interrupted.

"No," the system said in a little strange tone, confused by the sudden change of the topic.

Mag curled his upper lip. "Well, if you don't sell it, you can't prevent me from buying from others." Then, after he paused for a moment, he added, "Relax. I don't have the recipe or experience bag, so I'll try to make some green citrus water for myself first."

He remembered that he had tried making lemon water on a whim once. He had added honey and sugar, but the taste was very awful. Now he didn't hold out much hope for inventing green citrus water by himself.

He poured a cup of water for Amy. After forcing two more pieces of meat down his throat, he gave up. I'll have a plate of fried rice after we get home. This thing is inedible compared to Yangzhou fried rice.

"Father, are you stuffed?" asked Amy, looking at Mag's plate full of meat.

Mag nodded. "Yes."

"Then I'll finish the rest for you," she said as she stared at Mag's plate, her eyes shining.

"Okay. Thank you." Mag switched the two plates, looking at Amy with eyes full of love. She has never eaten roasted meat before. It seems she really likes it. This restaurant should be able to represent the above average level of roasted meat in this world. They know how to roast, and they know to use seasonings and sauce, but they should have been more careful with the ingredients, and they should have poured their hearts into cooking.

Mag paid the check and left with his daughter.

"Dad, the roasted meat is very good. Now I know its taste," Amy said merrily.

"I'll make you roasted meat which is 100 times tastier than this." Mag smiled and gave Amy's head a stroke. This kind of roasted meat is child's play.

Perfect roasted meat should be charred on the outside and tender on the inside. The tasty sauce and the tender beef should be combined perfectly, delicious and not very chewy.

Many customers had come to Mamy restaurant for lunch. They had knocked and knocked, but nobody answered. Then they had left disappointedly. Now that they knew Mag was really a man of his word, they decided not to come here on their rest days again.

Ugly Duckling had awoken. Mag played with the two little things on the square for two hours. After they were tired, he bought several green citruses and started back.

"Father, look! Someone is lying outside our door. Is she the Little Match Girl?" Amy said in amazement, pointing to the figure at their door from afar.

Chapter 102: I Must Be Dreaming

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

It was a girl in gray linen-cotton clothes, her head resting on her left arm, which pointed in the direction of the restaurant. She wore her blond hair in a side ponytail. Only one side of her face could be seen. She looked very skinny, and her loose clothes made her seem even smaller.

Amy gazed at the girl, worried. "What happened to her?" Ugly Duckling cried in Amy's arms.

Why is she lying here? Mag wondered. He crouched down and put a finger under her nose. She's breathing faintly. I don't see any injuries. If she doesn't have any kind of illness, she must have fainted from hunger.

There was a pair of golden horns projecting from her head, like deer horns. Looks like she's not a human girl. She might be a demon or an orc. I don't think elves have horns.

"Roa… Roast goose…" the girl murmured suddenly.

Amy's eyes brightened right away. "Roast goose! Father, she is indeed the Little Match Girl! She has grown up!" Then, she looked at her, and said sympathetically, "Poor girl. Let's help her, Father. But, Ugly Duckling is so little…"

"Meow! Meow!!" the kitten cried out uneasily.

Mag took a look around. "All right. Let's help her," he said. Few people pass by here normally. How long has she been lying here? he wondered.

If someone evil came across her, God knows what would happen to her. Mag opened the door and put the basket on a table. Then he walked over to the girl and helped her up.

Mag could barely lift Amy up now, so he wasn't able to carry her in his arms. Fortunately, the girl was pretty light. He dragged her slowly into the restaurant and seated her comfortably.

"She's so beautiful." Amy's eyes lit up as she looked at the blonde girl.

Mag was also a little surprised. The girl was very beautiful, and was about 18. Only her slim eyebrows were sticking up like two little swords, adding some sternness to her pretty face.

Right now she looked very pale. Her lips were dry. Maybe she hadn't had anything for a long time. She curled up on the chair like a little cat. Such a pitiful sight!

Mag took a look at her horns. "Could she be a dragon?" he murmured in a low voice. Then he walked to the kitchen and poured a glass of warm water for her, but she still hadn't woken up after drinking the water.

"Dad, is she okay?" Amy asked her father, worried.

Mag nodded. "I think she's just too hungry. I'll make her some rainbow fried rice for when she wakes up," he said. If she can't wake up, maybe I'll have to make some gruel for her.

"Father, you're so kind. I'll be a kind person like you," Amy said as she looked at Mag with adoring eyes.

Mag nodded, smiling. "That's my good girl. We should have a good heart and help others when we can. But remember, our safety always comes first. Do not try to be a hero."

Amy nodded solemnly. "Yes, Father."

Mag went into the kitchen to cook the fried rice. Amy sat opposite the blonde girl, holding Ugly Duckling in her arms, looking at the girl with a worried look on her face. The kitten reached out its little paw to claw at the table, making a rustling sound.

The blond girl breathed more smoothly after drinking water. She frowned, seemingly trying to wake up, but failed.

Pleasant aroma floated up from the half-closed kitchen. The kitten stopped clawing and craned its little head towards the kitchen, its blue eyes full of desire.

"Stop looking. It's not for you," Amy said calmly.

"Meow, meow!" the kitten cried out in frustration and anger. Then it went back into her arms and shut its eyes.

The blonde girl's nostrils moved slightly as the aroma of the fried rice permeated the room. Her eyelids quivered as if she was struggling to open her eyes.

"Father, she seems to be waking up!" Amy shouted at her father in the kitchen, watching the blonde girl.

Maybe she heard Amy's shouting, but Yabemiya opened her eyes slowly. Her left eye was golden, while her right eye was dark. She looked around, and saw a grand room, beautiful paintings on the wall, fancy chandeliers, clean tables, and an adorable half-elf girl holding an orange cat in her arms.

Where am I? Am I dreaming? Yabemiya didn't understand. She only remembered seeing a pretty restaurant, a restaurant like a palace that wasn't supposed to be on Aden Square, before fainting from hunger.

Now she found herself sitting in that restaurant. Everything is just so beautiful! The half-elf girl is so pretty and so adorable! Even the orange kitten in her arms is fluffy and cute!

I must be dreaming!

What amazed her even more was the seductive smell in the air. What is giving off such a pleasant smell? Her stomach was rumbling, and she couldn't help but swallow her saliva. She looked toward the kitchen with some effort. A tall, lean, and handsome middle-aged man was walking towards her, holding a plate of colorful food while smiling gently.

Such a beautiful dream before I die of hunger!

Yabemiya was totally attracted by the aromatic dish. Colorful ingredients have been chopped into evenly sized grains, making the dish look as if it were a plate of rainbow. The most prominent smell is that of eggs. The mixed aroma of different ingredients is so inviting.

"Go ahead and eat," Mag said with a smile, putting down the plate in front of Yabemiya. She looks a little confused, but at least she woke up. She can eat some food by herself now.

Mag was a little startled when he saw her eyes. It's very rare.

"Thank you," Nabemiya said politely, even though she thought it was a dream. Then she picked up the spoon and scooped some rice in the middle.

Every rice grain was perfectly coated by golden eggs, every ingredient had been chopped into the same size, and the surface had an oily gleam. So many ingredients have been cooked together? She had never seen this way of cooking before.

She brought the rice into her mouth. Her eyes brightened right away!

Chapter 103: Do You Need A Waitress?

The eggs almost melted in her mouth, the soft and tender ham was well mixed with the rice, and she thought she had tasted shrimp. Different tastes blended in this mouthful of food and spread quickly, tickling her taste buds. After she swallowed, the pleasant smell of rice remained.

Almost instantly, she felt a warm current flowing slowly all over her body, nourishing her. Every cell of hers was cheering and dancing, lighting up her face.

Yabemiya's eyes went wide. How can anything be this good?! Oh, it's a dream. But it tastes so good! She couldn't help but bring another spoonful to her mouth, savoring the delicious taste melting in her mouth. She felt as if she were bathing in a hot spring, with no cold or hunger. One spoon after another, she was not able to control her hand.

Poor girl. She has grown up, but it seems she hasn't even sold one match. Amy sighed quietly as she gazed at Yabemiya with sympathy. We don't have roasted goose, but she should be happy to eat Father's delicious rainbow fried rice.

She must have eaten nothing for days. Mag smiled, watching the hungry girl wolfing down the fried rice. There's no way a dragon would be reduced to such a miserable state. If she is not an orc, she is probably a half-dragon.

Life was difficult for hybrids here. Although she was pretty beautiful, there was still a good chance that she wasn't able to find a job. Hybrids could mean trouble, and no one wanted to attract unwanted attention.

"Ding!"

The spoon clattered on the empty plate. Yabemiya froze for an instant before she realized she had finished the whole plate. Looking at the several remaining rice grains, she couldn't refrain from licking the plate, and then put it down, satisfied.

A warm and comfortable feeling permeated her whole body, and the pleasant smell of rice remained in her mouth. The feeling of hunger was gone, and she felt alive again. All of this was because of that delicious fried rice!

"Even the food in dreams is so magical! I don't want to ever wake up!" Yabemiya muttered to herself. Then she looked up at Mag and smiled. "Excuse me. I'd like one more plate of this!

"Oh my! Such a cute little elf! Can I pinch your cheek?" Then she stroked Amy's cheek and petted Ugly Duckling's head. "The kitten is so lovely, much lovelier than the black ones and white ones."

Mag was taken by surprise. "You still think you're dreaming?" he said, smiling. She looked much better now after eating the fried rice. When she grinned, she would reveal two sharp canine teeth, looking very cute.

"Big Sister, it's daytime. You're not dreaming. Look out the window. It's Aden Square," Amy said as she shook her head, looking at the smiling Yabemiya, pointing at the window.

"Meow!" Ugly Duckling cried out in annoyance, cowering in Amy's arms. It had never been touched by anyone other than Amy and Mag.

"It's not a dream?" For an instant, she froze. She lifted her eyes to look at Mag, at innocent Amy, and then at the hostile orange cat. Everything seemed to be frozen in time.

After a while of awkward silence, Yabemiya turned slowly to look behind her. Through the transparent glass, she saw Aden Square in the beautiful sunlight, an old man practicing swordplay, and two pigeons landing on the grass looking for worms. Everything was so simple yet so real.

I'm not dreaming… Yabemiya turned back slowly. She looked at the plate that could almost reflect her face, and realized what she had just done. She blushed, and rose quickly to her feet, her head bowed in embarrassment and fingers wriggling with nervousness. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I thought it was a dream…" she said apologetically.

Amy shook her head. "That's okay, Big Sister. When I first ate Father's rainbow fried rice, I thought I was dreaming too. Because it's so delicious," she said. "But you're much older than me, and you still can't tell dreams from reality."

Yabemiya wanted to sink into the ground with shame. "What's your name? When was the last time you ate?" Mag asked softly. "You fainted outside our door, so I carried you in. I'm glad you're okay. I'm the owner of this restaurant. You can call me Mag."

Their words of consolation and kind smiles calmed her down. This father and daughter seem so nice.

Her mood suddenly worsened as she remembered the situation she was now in. She nodded. "My name is Yabemiya. The last time I ate was three days ago. I worked in a restaurant, but the owner there kicked me out without giving me even one coin. I have been looking for a job on Aden Square ever since, but no one wants to hire me even as a dishwasher, because I'm a half-dragon. When I walked past your restaurant today, I thought hunger made me hallucinate. I thought such a beautiful restaurant only existed in dreams. Then I fainted. Sorry for inconvenience."

Mag raised an eyebrow. I guessed right; she's a half-dragon. But what's wrong with this world? There is no reproductive isolation here?!

Moreover, aren't dragons and humans too different in size? Maybe a dragon could have babies with a troll, but a dragon and a human??

Based on what she just said, clearly hybrids are struggling in this world. Dragons are so formidable, but a half-dragon like her can't even find a job as a dishwasher. She almost died of hunger. Speaking of dishwasher…

"Poor girl," Amy said, casting a sympathetic glance at her. Then she looked up at Mag, and asked, "Father, didn't you say we need a waitress in the morning? Can't we let Sister Miya stay?"

Yabemiya's eyes lit up immediately. "Do you need a waitress?" Then she saw her surroundings and lowered her eyes sadly.

Even those filthy restaurants don't want me. It's out of the question for such a fancy restaurant to hire a half-dragon.

Many people treated her as an outcast. She had rarely received any respect growing up. Even job-finding agencies didn't want her file there.

Chapter 104: A Small Test

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Mag nodded with a smile. "Yes. We need a waitress, and I don't have anyone in mind right now," he said. "You said you've worked in a restaurant before?" Amy had said what was on his mind, but he didn't hire Yabemiya right away. He had to make sure she was qualified first.

Yabemiya nodded, nervous and excited. "Yes. I started working in that kitchen with my mother at the age of nine. When I was 12, my mother passed away, and I worked there until they kicked me out…" Her face darkened. It seemed she was hiding something.

But Mag didn't want to probe into her past. "Your work experience is impressive. I need a waitress who can handle a heavy workload. You'll have to greet customers, take orders, serve food, clear tables, and clean the restaurant. We're very busy during opening hours. Are you sure you can do this job?" Mag asked, looking her in the eye.

"I'll have to greet customers?" A flicker of alarm and expectancy crossed her face. All these years, she had hidden in the kitchen as if she didn't exist.

Once, a cook had asked her to serve a dish. She had done it carefully, but the owner there bashed her on the head with a spoon when he saw her. She had lost a lot of blood, and she was only 13 at that time. She had never walked out of the kitchen during opening hours ever since that incident.

She wanted to wear clean, beautiful clothes, serve customers with a smile, and clear tables deftly as they watched with admiring eyes. However, all of this was impossible for her. She was a half-dragon, and no restaurant would hire a half-dragon as a waitress.

"I've never greeted customers before. And if I served food, they might be displeased," Yabemiya said with uncertainty.

"You don't need to worry that customers may not be happy to see you because of who you are. It's not a problem in this restaurant," Mag said, smiling. "I use Amy's picture as our trademark. She's the best thing in my life. You're just like her. Your half-dragon identity will not be a liability here." He put a kraft bag on the table.

This self-abased girl reminded Mag of the old Amy. Only, she had been through a lot more than Amy, so she had got wounded deeper. He felt sorry for her.

Yabemiya gaped at Mag, her mouth wide open. It was the first time someone told her that being a half-dragon was not a problem.

When she dropped her gaze to the bag on the table, she saw a half-elf girl's back—the back of the cute girl opposite her. It's too risky to use this as the trademark!

Two years ago, on Aden Square, a drunken demon had torn down a restaurant because the owner had hired a half-orc waitress. The owner had been crippled and then died not long after. His successful restaurant had shut down for good.

To be sure, the demon had got punished by the Gray Temple, and was still in prison, but somehow they blamed that half-orc waitress.

Overnight, almost all the hybrid waiters and waitresses had lost their jobs. Even Yabemiya, who worked in the kitchen—her salary had been halved. She had barely had enough to get by.

The fact that Mag used a half-elf as his trademark and that he didn't care who she was helped her see Mag's great love towards Amy and his respect for hybrids like her.

They needed sympathy, but they needed to be considered equal to others more.

"If you want this job, you'll have to be brave and I'll have to test your ability," Mag continued.

Yabemiya hesitated for a moment before she mustered up her courage and nodded. "Yes. Test me, please."

"Great! Don't worry, Sister Miya. Father is very friendly," Amy said, holding the kitten's paw in her hand, expectant. I'll have another playmate if she works here.

Yabemiya nodded. "Okay. Thank you." Nobody had given her any encouragement after her mother died. She felt warm in her heart.

"Good," Mag said, smiling. He didn't want her thinking of this job as a handout, so he was giving her a chance to earn it with dignity. This will make her happier and more confident.

"Then let's begin," Mag said, looking at Yabemiya. "Our restaurant is very busy, so in order to improve efficiency, you'll have to be fast when taking orders and serving food. You'll have to remember clearly the orders and requirements. If you know how to read and write, you can put them down on paper, but try to be quick."

Yabemiya nodded after she thought for a while. "My mother taught me how to read and write when I was little. I have a good memory, so I think I can remember the orders."

"Good. Then let's do it." Mag was a little surprised to find her so confident, but he didn't jump to conclusions. He found a pen and a notebook, tore four sheets of paper from it, and then tore each sheet into four pieces. He wrote a number and two or three customers' orders on each piece, and put each on one table.

"The table by the door is table one, and then table two, three… Each piece of paper has a number to signify the order of their entry, and customers' orders. You have 10 minutes to remember them or put them down on this notebook." Mag took a look at the clock on the wall, and said, "Okay, start."

Yabemiya took a glance at the notebook and pen, and walked towards table one without hesitation.

Five minutes later, Yabemiya walked over to Mag. "I've remembered them," she said confidently.

Mag was taken by surprise. "Okay, then let's see how you have done." He didn't collect those pieces of paper. He had won first prize at a memory competition in junior high school. Clearly, he had memorized what he had just written down.

"Two roujiamos for table three…" Yabemiya said unhurriedly as she looked at Mag. She had to pause once to remember something, but she managed to recite all the orders quite fluently.

"Father, how has she done?" Amy asked out of curiosity.

Yabemiya also looked at Mag, expectant and curious. It was a test, and also a mark of respect for her.

Chapter 105: I'd Like Two Maid Dresses

"Well, you've remembered everything accurately, and in a short while." Mag nodded with a smile, surprised but satisfied. He had found himself a good waitress.

Amy clapped her hands. "You're amazing, Sister Miya!" she exclaimed, looking at her with admiring eyes.

Yabemiya waved her hands immediately. "No… I mean, thank you." Her face reddened with joy.

She had a good memory, but her co-workers had considered this ability of hers useless. She had never tasted the feeling of being praised, so Amy's admiration and Mag's approval helped build up her confidence.

"Clearly your memory is not a problem, but the workload here is pretty heavy. Do you think you can handle it?" Mag asked, looking at this skinny girl. Maybe she's less than 90 pounds.

"Yes!" Yabemiya stood up straight. Her breasts were surprisingly big for a small girl. Then she realized what she had done, and relaxed her body. She blushed and nodded. "I'm skinny, but I'm strong. I could lift a side of pork when I was working in the kitchen. I worked from early morning to late at night. I'm even stronger than men."

"I see. Then can you lift this up?" Mag said, pointing at the table before him. This table weighs at least 200 pounds. I can barely move it in this condition.

Yabemiya walked up to the table, grabbed one end of it with two hands, and lifted it whole clearly off the ground with ease, about 20 centimeters high. "Like this?"

Mag lifted an eyebrow. She has extraordinary strength for a rather small build. She only needs to grab one end of a table to lift it up! Then he nodded. "Yes. Good. You can put it down now."

It seems her skinny body is because of lack of food. She'll fill out as long as she has enough to eat.

"Wow! Sister Miya, you have incredible strength," Amy said as Yabemiya put the table down.

Yabemiya gave an abashed smile. She had been called "Strong Gal" by her coworkers, and she didn't like that nickname. She was happy that Amy liked her strength.

Mag looked at Yabemiya contentedly. She had a good memory and a strong body—she was almost perfect for him. But she was a little stiff. Mag smiled, and said, "I want our customers to feel comfortable eating here. Our business philosophy is: kindness, distance, equality. You don't have to bow and scrape to them, but a smile will make them feel at home while we keep our distance. And we should treat every customer equally and show them the respect they deserve. Now, can you give me an earnest smile?"

Kindness, distance, equality. Yabemiya got lost in thought and forgot to be nervous.

Equality, what an unfamiliar word! She had been living in inequality from birth. The restaurant she had worked in catered to elves first, then demons and trolls, and then humans. Hybrids were not even allowed to eat there, no equality left to speak of.

He said he would treat every customer equally. That means hybrids like me could eat here. And I would be their waitress. That would be great! The thought brought a smile to Yabemiya's face.

Her smile was like a small white flower blooming in dry soil in winter, not very charming, but extra innocent, seeming to have the ability to purify souls.

"If you like, you can come work tomorrow," Mag said earnestly, looking at Yabemiya.

Her smile was very lovely and, more importantly, very contagious, revealing two sharp canine teeth 1 . She can cheer people up with that smile. It's a special gift. Maybe she doesn't have to keep her distance from customers deliberately. I think it's better this way.

"Really?" Yabemiya was taken by surprise. She couldn't believe her ears.

Mag nodded. "Yes. As to your salary, the first month is a probation month, and I'll give you 4,500 copper coins. Your lunch is free, but breakfast and dinner are not. And we don't provide accommodation here. I know you're short on money right now. I will give you a half month's salary in advance so you have money to rent a house and eat." Then he looked at her greasy, patched clothes and thought for a moment before he added, "And I'll give you two sets of working clothes."

"I…" Yabemiya's mouth went wide. She stood there, frozen with surprise. She felt faint from happiness. I just recited some words, lifted a table, and gave a smile. And he hired me! 4,500 copper coins a month! I only made 800 a month in that kitchen, and they didn't provide food or shelter.

"System, show me the womenswear catalogue. I need to buy working clothes for my new employee," Mag said in his mind.

"I'm a respectable system. I don't provide womenswear," the system said seriously.

"I want two sets of clothes and two matching shoes. I'll pay cash," Mag said.

The system paused a moment before it asked tentatively, "Well, are you going to buy that window shade at a little higher price?"

"Normally you'll get a discount when you buy more, no? What about 5 gold coins?" Mag asked.

A line of words appeared in Mag's head. "The transaction is done. Six gold coins has been deducted. Manufacturing the window shade. It will be ready in 10 minutes. Spend 10 gold coins or more on anything else, and the window shade will be installed for free."

Mag wanted to criticize the system for making the deal without his consent, but then he thought, 10 gold coins for two sets of clothes and two shoes isn't too much.

This way, the system would save him the trouble of installing the window shade himself.

The system had clearly grown more enthusiastic after the transaction went through. "What kind of womenswear do you need? I have suits, office lady suits, dresses, slip dresses, sheath dresses… sailor uniforms, maid dresses, school swimsuits…"

"Wait! What?! You're selling sailor uniforms and school swimsuits?! Have a little decency!" Mag twisted his mouth. Then, he said, "I'd like two maid dresses."

Chapter 106: Thank You, Boss

The system of course had many different styles of maid dresses for different occasions. Mag roughly looked through the whole catalogue and chose two long maid dresses, one black and white, the other blue and white, both similar in style.

The system used Rem's picture for its catalogue—a black and white dress revealing delicate collarbones, a white apron, a white bow around the neck, and a white hairband. The other dress's hairband was black. Five pairs of black stockings and five pairs of white ones were bundled with the two dresses.

As to shoes, Mag chose two pairs of flat leather ones—one pair black and one pair white, simple but comfortable. After all, working eight hours in a busy restaurant called for no heels.

"That will be 11 gold coins. The clothes and shoes will start being manufactured after you pay, and will be ready in about five minutes. Do you want to pay now?" the system said.

"Okay. Yes." Mag was pretty happy with the two maid dresses which would not reveal too much of her body. It was kind of his secret addiction, which he couldn't feed anywhere else.

"Payment received. Body measurements taken. Manufacturing the dresses and shoes. They will be ready in five minutes," the system said.

Amy was also very happy that her father hired Yabemiya. "Sister Miya, it's really not a dream. Can't you recognize Aden Square?" Amy said as she looked at Yabemiya, who was still rooted to the spot.

Yabemiya was brought back to earth. She turned to Mag. "The salary… The salary is too high. It's really too much. I only made 800 a month before, so you only need to pay 800. I'll work hard," she said, shaking her head.

Smiling, Mag shook his head. "No, you deserve it. Our target customers are middle and high-class people. You just need to work harder and be more devoted to this job to earn this salary." He opened the menu on the table. "Your free lunch is a plate of Yangzhou fried rice or two roujiamos. When we have more dishes, you can choose anything priced less than 600 copper coins for lunch."

Yabemiya's eyes went wide. "600 copper coins!" she exclaimed as she stared at the price on the menu. 600 for a plate of Yangzhou fried rice! The tasty food I just had should have been this fried rice.

But it's not expensive for such an amazing dish, she thought. Only, she couldn't afford it.

Now she got to eat it every day for free, or she could eat other food of the same price. The price of her free lunch was much higher than her salary.

"It's settled then. And the salary is your probation period salary. Based on your performance in this month, maybe I'll raise your salary. Take a seat. I'll bring you some water and your clothes." Mag signaled her to sit down, and then walked towards the kitchen with the glass on the table.

Second-class waitresses earned at least 4,500 copper coins a month, and their average salary was around 5,000. Yabemiya' prettiness was more than enough for her to become a first-class waitress.

So, Mag was using a first-class waitress to do a third-class one's job, and giving her the salary for a second-class waitress. He was getting the better end of the deal in every way.

Nonetheless, Mag wasn't exactly an exploiter, because Yabemiya couldn't find any job anywhere else even though she didn't ask for much. Otherwise, she wouldn't have fainted from hunger.

Mag provided only free lunches because the ingredients were very expensive—nearly 300 copper coins for a plate of fried rice, much more than her salary. He would sooner raise her salary than provide all three meals for free.

He had a spare room on the second floor, but he didn't like other people sleeping in his house. He wanted to keep his distance from his employee. I'll just pay her in advance so she can rent a house.

When Yabemiya took the glass of water from Mag, she was still not quite herself. Luck had always eluded her before, but now after she woke up, she got overwhelmed by the sudden arrival of happiness. She had eaten delicious food, got approval, and even got a job—her most desired job which would enable her to talk with customers!

Most importantly, her monthly salary was as much as 4,500 copper coins, and she got to eat delicious lunch for free! She was drowning in happiness.

Mag understood that it was too much information for her to take in at once. When the system told him the clothes and shoes were finished and bagged in three bags, he went upstairs to collect them and asked the system to print two maid photos for him. After all, people here didn't wear this kind of clothes. If she didn't know how to put them on, it was not proper for him to teach her.

"These are your clothes and shoes. Wear them when you come work tomorrow," Mag said, putting the bags on the table. "Here is 25 gold coins. Find a comfortable and safe place to stay. The money left should be enough for your food this month. You'll get the remaining payment come the first of next month." He handed the coins to Yabemiya.

"Thank you, Boss. I'll work hard." Yabemiya took the coins with her two hands, her eyes watery. It was the first time she had received so much care and recognition.

Mag hired her not out of pity or because he coveted her body, but because he truly believed in her ability to do this job. His trust in her helped her find the meaning of life. She knew now that she was not that bad, and that there was at least one job she could do.

Mag nodded with a smile. "I'll call you Miya. I would very like to see you smile more. You look very pretty when you smile," he said. "You should go and find a house. It'll get dark soon."

"You can do it, Sister Miya! See you tomorrow!" Amy said, waving her little hand.

Yabemiya nodded. "See you." She picked up the three bags, cast a grateful glance at Mag and Amy, and walked out, wondering what kind of clothes were in these bags. She was wearing the clothes her mother left her.

"Father, Sister Miya doesn't have to sell matches anymore, does she?" Amy asked.

Mag nodded, smiling. "No, she doesn't. She'll be a member of our restaurant," he said. Looks like Amy will get along well with her.

Now that he had found himself a waitress, Mag felt quite relieved. He gave the system his permission to install the window shade, and went upstairs with Amy to take a bath. When they came downstairs again, the window shade had been installed. It was almost time for dinner. Mag pulled down the window shade and turned on the crystal chandeliers. No one could see them now. The system's product was of high quality as always.

Mag heard several knocks during dinner and ignored them. After a little while, they left. He was pretty happy with this result.

The next morning, Mag woke up at about 5 am to prepare ingredients. He walked up to the window shade to open it and found a girl in a maid dress standing outside, pouting and gazing at him with an awkward gesture.

Chapter 107: Then Let Me Show You

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Yabemiya was looking at herself in the window and making a cute gesture, her lips pouting, her arms extended, her left leg raised backwards. Mag froze for an instant and smiled despite himself.

She was pretty cute.

She was wearing the black and white maid dress today. It fitted her like a glove since it had been customized by the system. She had lean limbs, big breasts, and the dress was very flattering to her body.

She wore a white hairband—her blond hair in a side ponytail on the right—knee-high stockings, and black leather shoes. She looked very energetic right now with that smile.

Yabemiya was startled. She quickly drew back her limbs and straightened, blushing in abashment. How… How did it become transparent all of a sudden? The boss saw me. So embarrassing!

Mag opened the door. "Good morning, Miya. You're so early. Come on in," Mag said, smiling. He hadn't expected to see her so early. He hadn't told her when to come here yesterday.

Yabemiya walked over to Mag. "Good morning, Boss. I saw on the door that you open at 7:30 am when I left yesterday, so I thought I should come early to help you," she said with a serious expression, her face still red. Then she added, "I've had breakfast on the way here."

Mag smiled. "I see. You don't have to come so early next time. I can prepare ingredients myself. You just need to work during opening hours." He turned sideways to let her come in. She's pretty meticulous, he thought happily.

"I worked in the kitchen for many years. I know how to prepare ingredients. I can wash and cut vegetables, clean the kitchen… I can do a lot of things," Yabemiya said eagerly. She was a better hand at working in the kitchen than greeting and serving people.

Mag shook his head with a smile. "You don't need to do any of those, and I don't think you can cut vegetables for me. I'll tell you if I need any help." The system provided all the ingredients, and he didn't think Yabemiya was capable of processing them for him. She is pretty enthusiastic, though.

Mag poured a glass of water for her. "Take a seat and have some rest," Mag said with a smile. "Amy hasn't woken up. I'll go prepare the ingredients. It's your first day working here, so just try to adapt to your new job and the environment. Don't be upset even if anything goes wrong. Just do your best. We'll be very busy after we open, so enjoy your leisure time now." Then he turned around and walked towards the kitchen.

"Okay. Thank you, Boss." Yabemiya held the warm glass in her hands, feeling warmth in her heart. She had been forced to work like an animal by her old boss. She had worked long hours every day with little rest.

However, her new boss didn't make her do anything they hadn't agreed on, and he addressed her in a tone that made her feel respected. She hesitated a moment and seated herself. As she studied the beautiful restaurant, she thought, The dish is priced at 600 copper coins, so the ingredients must be meticulously processed and cooked. I'd do well to just stay here.

Mag deftly kneaded dough and stewed meat. When he glanced back over his shoulder, she was sitting meekly, quiet. He nodded contentedly. She is pretty, obedient, quiet, hard-working, and has good manners. It's not easy to find such a good waitress like her. Guess I'm pretty lucky.

At around 7 am, Amy woke up and changed into her clothes. She washed up, brushed her teeth, and came downstairs holding Ugly Duckling. She watched Mag at the kitchen door and rubbed her eyes. "Good morning, Father," she said.

"Morning, Amy," Mag said, smiling. He took a look at his flour-covered hands, walked over to her, and softly kissed her hair. Then he pointed to Yabemiya. "Miya is here. Go play with her. I'll make breakfast."

Amy nodded. "Okay," she said. "But Father, I have to wait for half-beard grandpa to come here first, and then I'll eat my fried rice. He promised. So just make one roujiamo for me."

Smiling, Mag nodded. "All right." Krassu hadn't come here the day before last. Amy had mentioned this little agreement of theirs several times now. She was waiting for him to deliver on his promise.

Amy turned around, holding Ugly Duckling in her arms. "Good morning, Sister Miya," she said. Then her eyes lit up immediately. "Wow, you're so beautiful today. I like your new clothes."

Amy's praise brought a smile to Yabemiya's face. Abashed, she looked at Amy, and said, "Thank you. Amy's more beautiful than me."

Amy thought a moment and nodded. "Yes. I think so too." She climbed onto the chair opposite the young waitress.

"Meow, meow…" Ugly Duckling regarded Yabemiya with wary curiosity. It had been annoyed by her when she touched its head yesterday, but it found her more pleasant now.

"Is this a cat?" Yabemiya asked curiously, looking at Ugly Darkling. She had never seen an orange and white cat before.

Amy shook her head. "No. Actually, it's a duckling," she explained patiently, "but it's too ugly, so I named it Ugly Duckling. It will become a swan when it grows up."

The waitress didn't understand. "It's a duckling, and it will become a swan?"

Amy nodded. "Yes. I'm waiting for it to grow up." Then she recalled what Yabemiya had said when she was unconscious. "I'm sure you'll like it too."

"Yes. It's very cute." She gazed at the kitten. "Can I hold it?" she asked hesitantly.

Amy nodded. "Sure. But we have to ask its permission first," she said, looking down at Ugly Duckling.

The kitten covered its eyes with one paw and lifted another to signal its refusal to be held by her.

Amy shrugged regretfully. "Looks like it doesn't want to be held by you right now."

The waitress drew back her hands. "Such an interesting little thing," she said, not unhappy. The aroma of stewed meat floated out of the kitchen, so strong that she took a deep sniff. It's a little different from Yangzhou fried rice. It should be la zhi roujiamo which is priced at 300 copper coins each on the menu. She was a little curious and expectant.

"Breakfast is ready." Mag walked out, holding a plate of Yangzhou fried rice and two roujiamos. He handed a roujiamo to Amy, sat beside her, and started eating.

The rice, which had absorbed the essence of the Spring of Life, would get his body into the best condition. One la zhi roujiamo would pump him up, eliminate his morning weariness, and fill him up with energy.

The aromatic smell made Yabemiya swallow as she gazed at the roujiamo in Amy's hands.

Amy looked at her roujiamo, and then at Yabemiya. "Sister Miya, do you want to know what la zhi roujiamo tastes like?"

Her body responded spontaneously. She nodded. Amy will let me try it? What do I do? she wondered.

"Then let me show you," Amy said, smiling. She brought the roujiamo to her mouth with two hands and took a bite. Then she nodded merrily. "It's very tasty!"

Chapter 108: Good Morning, Mag

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Yabemiya was taken aback by this turn of events. She had never seen this coming. She watched as Amy enjoyed roujiamo, the look on her face a little odd.

Amy looked so adorable while eating. She was holding the roujiamo in her hands, chewing fast like a little squirrel. She got some gravy on the corner of her lips. The happy and cheerful look on her face made the young waitress swallow many times.

Although she didn't know the taste of roujiamo, she could tell from the strong aroma and the fact that Amy was stuffing herself that it had to be as delicious as Yangzhou fried rice.

Mag looked at Yabemiya who was swallowing quietly, and then looked down at the roujiamo in his hand. It's not easy for her to watch us gorging on such delicious food. He hesitated a moment before he smiled, and said, "You must be hungry now since you came here so early. Do you want to have a roujiamo now? And you can eat one for lunch."

"No, no, no. Thank you, Boss. I'm not hungry, and we have an agreement," Yabemiya said adamantly, shaking her head. Then she looked at the roujiamo in Mag's hand and asked expectantly, "But, can I have two of these for lunch?"

"Sure." Mag nodded. It's impressive that she can resist the good food and follow the rules. Mag got back to eating his food and said not a word.

"Meow!!!" the kitten in Amy's arms shouted at Mag, revealing its teeth, its eyes staring at the fried rice before Mag full of desire. Apparently, the sheep milk couldn't satisfy it anymore.

"Father, can Ugly Duckling eat anything else?" asked Amy.

The kitten looked at Mag, expectant.

Mag thought for a moment and shook his head. "It's not even a week old. We'd better feed it milk for another one or two days." Little kittens had a fragile stomach. Although Ugly Duckling might not be a normal cat, it was still too soon for it to eat the chewy vegetables in the fried rice.

"Meow, meow…" Ugly Duckling cried out in frustration. It looked up at the ceiling, tears welling up in its eyes.

After they finished eating breakfast, people were already lining up outside.

"I'm famished. I ate nothing yesterday. I'll have to eat four roujiamos for breakfast!" Harrison said, smiling.

Gjergj curled his lip, standing behind him. "As if I would believe that. I guess you only skipped super," he said.

Harrison laughed. "You've guessed right! There's no school today, but why didn't Parmer tag along? He always likes following you around."

"He said a child visited his school yesterday, and she beat him at arithmetic. He was sad for a whole evening. He woke up in the morning to try to memorize the multiplication table. He said he wouldn't go out until he has memorized the whole thing. So I'll bring some food home for him."

Harrison's eyes went wide. "She's even better than our arithmetic genius? And she's not a student there? That's very interesting!" He laughed. "Looks like it's a terrible blow to him. Maybe you should buy a roujiamo for him to cheer him up."

Gjergj shook his head. "I don't think it's a good idea. If Miranda saw the roujiamo, she would definitely want to eat it. I'll take him with me when I come here tomorrow. I guess he'll feel better by then." Then he smiled, and added, "Actually, it's not a bad thing for him. He always thought of himself as the brightest student in his class before. He played with Parbor every day after school. Now this little blow has motivated him to study harder."

Harrison waved his hand. "Boys are not girls. Let him play. I'm free tomorrow. I'll take them to the stud farm and then eat here."

Gjergj nodded. "All right. Then I won't go to the forge tomorrow. We'll introduce my boys to the little girl here. I'm sure they'll like her."

A man cast a glance though the window and saw Yabemiya. "Why, there's a young girl inside. Could she be the owner's wife?"

"Mag rested a day to find a wife?"

"I don't think so. Maybe she's a waitress. The restaurant is so busy, Mag can't handle it himself."

They started talking about who the girl was while waiting. Now no customers knocked at Mag's door except for the new ones. They knew he wouldn't open until restaurant's opening hours. No one dared to kick the door down, because the last thing they wanted was to get banned.

Sargeras had paid 10 gold coins for a chair, so apparently this exquisite wooden door was worth dozens of gold coins.

"Customers are here. Should I open the door to let them in?" Yabemiya said as she looked at the long line outside, ready to stand up.

Mag shook his head. "No. Don't open the door. We open at 7:30." He turned over the menu on the table and pushed it towards Yabemiya. "Our rules. Take a look. You can warn them when they break the rules. If they don't listen, just tell me."

Yabemiya was taken by surprise. Don't open the door? She had only seen people waiting outside the Fryer Tavern and few other busy restaurants on Aden Square during dinner hours, but never in the early morning.

And yet, her boss wouldn't let those customers come in until opening time! She hesitated a moment and refrained from asking stupid questions. Then, she dropped her gaze to the menu. She saw four rules in gold letters: a, no yelling in the restaurant…

She grew amazed as she read the rules.

As far as she was concerned, customers always came first. Restaurants should even try to meet their occasional unreasonable demands.

However, Mag had shown her a completely different restaurant, a restaurant of equity.

Customers were welcome to eat here, but they would be asked to leave if they didn't follow the rules. She hadn't heard anything like this before, and now, she had to execute these rules.

"Miya, clear the table. I'll open the door. Your work starts now," Mag said to Yabemiya as he finished eating his roujiamo, smiling. He rose to his feet and walked over to the customers. The door opened with a "ding".

They smiled and greeted Mag, complaining about yesterday.

"Good morning, Mag," Krassu said as he walked in. He hadn't come yesterday and the day before. He had trimmed his beard, and it was shorter yet neater now.

Mag nodded. "Good morning." He narrowed his eyes. He hasn't given up.

Amy's face lit up as she saw Krassu. "Half-beard grandpa, you said you would buy me something to eat. I know what I want to eat!"

Chapter 109: Don't Be Frightened. I'm Just A Demon

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Although Mag didn't like Krassu getting too close to Amy, he had no reason to ban him.

After all, it was not against his dining rules to take Amy in as a disciple, and he wasn't strong enough to force this powerful magic caster to leave, so all he could do was watch him carefully in case he lured Amy away.

Amy's words made some customers laugh. They had overheard their little agreement the other day.

"Okay. What do you want to eat? Just tell me and I'll buy it for you," Krassu said with a smile, taking a seat at Amy's table.

"I want a plate of Yangzhou fried rice," Amy said, smiling. "You said you would pay for me. You can't go back on your promise."

"I won't." Krassu pulled six gold coins from his purse and handed them to Amy. "Here, six gold coins," he said, a little embarrassed but happy.

"Thank you, half-bearded grandpa." Amy took the coins happily and lifted her head to wink at Mag, giving a self-satisfied smile.

Mag shook his head, smiling. Krassu had planned to create an opportunity to spend some time with Amy alone so that he could check her magic talent. He had failed and fallen for Amy's trick, but he had found out that Amy had a great talent.

It wasn't bad news for Mag. Amy's magic talent must be really good if even such a powerful magic caster wants to take her in as a disciple. She may become a very powerful magic caster too.

As Krassu had said, one had to be strong to live in this world.

However, Mag didn't have to be strong. He just needed to be rich. He could buy all kinds of stuff from the system.

After all, it was too late for Mag to start training. It was much easier to buy strength from the system. Besides, he could upgrade his restaurant.

Yabemiya cleared the table and walked out of the kitchen quickly. She stood beside Mag with her legs together, smiling like him. Her body was a little rigid, her heart pounding, and her mind blank with nervousness.

"Who is this young lady, Mag?" Harrison asked curiously, looking at Yabemiya. He knew at the first glance that she was a half-dragon, but her extraordinary clothes and her delicate collarbones which were showing through her dress were very charming. The black stockings on her slim legs and her white hairband looked strange to him.

Some customers also stared at Mag and Yabemiya out of curiosity, waiting for Mag to answer the question that had been baffling them.

Amy is a half-elf, so clearly her mother is an elf. This young lady is not her mother.

Although she's a half-dragon, her smile is very pleasant, like a fresh breath of spring, making us feel wonderful, they thought.

"She's our waitress, Yabemiya," Mag said, smiling. Most of the people lining up here are regulars. They like Amy, so they should be more open to hybrids. And he was right.

Harrison snapped his fingers. "See? I told you she's a waitress," he said gloatingly to Gjergj. Then he gave Mag a thumbs-up. "Mag, your eyes are pretty sharp. She fits the style of your restaurant perfectly."

Mag nodded, smiling. He liked what Harrison had just said. He did have sharp eyes.

Yabemiya blushed, not out of abashment, but because she was a little excited. No customer had ever complimented her before. Although Harrison was mainly praising Mag, she still felt a little flattered.

Gjergj nodded. "Yes. I like her smile, it's very contagious." He smiled and walked in with Harrison.

Other customers were all smiling at her with admiring eyes. Somehow, they didn't find hybrids unpleasant anymore; maybe it was because of Amy. They liked Amy, and now they felt attracted to Yabemiya.

Yabemiya smiled more confidently. She straightened her back and felt less nervous and more important. She represented the restaurant from now on, and her manners would affect customers' impression of them. She didn't want to fail Mag's trust.

After the customers had all entered, Mag loosed his grip on the door handle. "Relax, Miya. I'll take the orders of the first 10 customers, and you'll take it from there. Do you think you can handle it?" he said, watching Yabemiya.

She nodded solemnly. "Yes." Her right fist was clenched. Obviously, she was still a little nervous.

Amy walked over to her, holding Ugly Duckling in her arms. "You can do it, Sister Miya," she said as she looked up at her, holding her little fist up. Then she shook her kitten, signaling it to encourage her.

"Meow…" Ugly Duckling cried out reluctantly.

Yabemiya nodded. Her heart felt warm as she looked at Mag, Amy, and the kitten.

Mag walked inside and started taking orders.

"I'd like three plates of Yangzhou fried rice, Mag. Please serve two plates first and the last one later," Krassu said to Mag with a smile.

Mag nodded. "Okay, please wait a sec." Of course one plate was for Amy. After he took the orders of the first 10 customers, he strode into the kitchen quickly and started cooking.

Although Yabemiya was still a little nervous and couldn't even speak fluently, she tried to smile and began taking orders.

The door opened with a "ding".

"Welco—"The sight of Sargeras startled her before she could finish her words. He held an iron chair in his hand, his head bald, skin covered with lava cracks; he looked very frightening.

Sargeras was also taken aback by this unfamiliar face. Seeing that he had scared her, he became a little nervous. He waved his hand quickly. "Don't be frightened. I'm just a demon."

Chapter 110: Ordinary Dad

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Sargeras' words put a smile on the nervous waitress's face again. Yabemiya's tension was gone. She suddenly felt even a demon looked less frightening if he was a customer. She nodded. "Welcome."

Her smile surprised him. It was such an innocent smile, like fresh morning dew on the top of a mountain, softening his lava heart.

Such a beautiful smile! he thought. Just the sight of her smile was enough to chase away his gloom. He smiled back, put down his iron chair, and seated himself at the table by the door. She should be a waitress. He managed a smile. "I'd like five roujiamos," he said, trying to lower his voice.

Yabemiya nodded, smiling. "Okay, please wait a moment." She strode towards the kitchen. Now that all the orders had been taken, she started serving food.

"Good morning, Big Bald Head," Amy said to Sargeras like an old friend. He might look frightening, but Amy found him mild.

"Good morning," Sargeras said quickly. Although Amy might be the last person he wanted to mess with, he liked her, especially when she tricked Krassu. He had laughed his butt off when she burned his beard. Watching the old man sitting with her, he wanted to laugh again.

Mag only needed to focus on cooking in the kitchen now. Yabemiya was serving roujiamos and fried rice to the customers quickly. She raised the efficiency by one-third at least.

"System, can I get a bigger oven?" Mag asked, watching the bai ji bread in the oven. They needed to be cooked for about 10 minutes.

"You have no right to upgrade the kitchenware now," answered the system.

"Then give me another of the same size," Mag said directly.

"You have to upgrade to lv2 first," said the system.

Mag raised an eyebrow. "System, have you ever heard the story of Zhou Bapi 1 ? You're just like him."

"Sorry, your comparison doesn't apply here. I never crew like a cock in the middle of the night," the system said seriously. "But I recommend you extend your opening hours to earn more money."

"You're a Zhou Bapi, after all. You don't crow like a cock, but you want to extend my working time," Mag said with contempt. "System, I'll never extend opening hours. I like my current life. I'm pretty wealthy. Making money is hard work. I will not spend 50,000 gold coins on a lot of useless stuff. I don't think I'll ever want to upgrade."

The system remained silent for a long time. "You'll benefit a lot from the upgrading," it said hesitantly. "You'll gain the right to buy the kitchenware you have now and middle-sized kitchenware; you'll be able to add a protection system to the restaurant; you'll get a chance to change the restaurant for free. And we have some surprises in store for you."

"Amy has incredible magic talent. I'm ordinary, and I'd like to stay that way. I'm not interested in your protection system," Mag said airily.

The system's silence was even longer than the one before. After Mag cooked two plates of Yangzhou fried rice, it said at last, "Small-sized oven, 15 gold coins each. Maximum purchase quantity: one!"

Mag frowned. "Make it a little cheaper?" he asked with a twist of his mouth.

The system said solemnly, "The oven is very reliable. The bai ji bread made by it—"

"Yeah, yeah. I don't want to hear it," Mag interrupted, shaking his head. Then he added, "I'll buy one, then. But give it to me tonight."

Although looking calm on the outside, Mag was pretty happy within. Depreciating its commodities to turn the tables on it works every time.

Being an ordinary dad was all well and good, but he dreamed of being able to protect his daughter one day.

A line of words appeared in Mag's head. "15 gold coins has been deducted. Manufacturing the oven. Remarks: deliver it tonight." Then the system fell silent.

Mag continued cooking, feeling great.

Mag prepared 16 more loaves of bai ji bread for breakfast now that he had a waitress, but they sold out again before 9 am. Yabemiya had indeed increased the efficiency.

At nine o'clock, Mag walked out of the kitchen. Yabemiya was about to take a customer's order. He signaled her to stop, and walked over to the customer with a smile. "I'm sorry, Sir. Our opening time is over, and roujiamos are sold out. Please come back later."

"I see…" the customer said disappointedly. He had heard about the rules, so he left without a word.

"Boss, is this…" Yabemiya said hesitantly, watching the customer leave. She didn't understand.

"We follow the opening hours here. It's a rule I made when I started this business," he explained, smiling, and walked to the door to turn over the sign.

Yabemiya nodded, thoughtful. It's understandable since this restaurant is different. Her smile returned.

"You did a pretty good job for your first day, and only made two mistakes. Keep up the good work," Mag said to Yabemiya.

The young waitress nodded, her face red, her eyes shining with joy. "Thank you, Boss. I will."

For the first time, she knew she could do something right and that she was not useless.

Mag nodded, smiling. Yabemiya was skinny yet energetic. She was doing four jobs all by herself—greeting customers, taking orders, serving food, clearing tables. She had made two small mistakes, but she had defused the embarrassment with her earnest smiles.

She did a much better job than Mag had expected. She was really talented.

"Yes. Sister Miya is amazing. We made much more this morning," Amy said as she sat behind the counter, counting coins, her eyes shining with excitement. Money was her number two priority next to good food.

"Come on. Let me show you how to work this dishwasher and then you can clean the restaurant." Mag walked into the kitchen with Yabemiya and showed her how to use it.

The dishwasher was very user-friendly. Although Yabemiya found this dish-washing iron box very magical, she learned how to work it in a short while. Actually, she found many things in this restaurant strange, except pots and pans.

"Amy, let's buy some milk for Ugly Duckling," Mag said, and then left with his daughter. He had more leisure time now. It was another benefit of having a waitress.

Chapter 111: Quite A View

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

At lunch, Mag made two roujiamos for Yabemiya. His lunch was the same as Amy's—a plate of fried rice and a roujiamo.

"Try it, Sister Miya. It's very good," Amy said as she ate the fried rice, watching the young waitress who was holding a roujiamo with two hands.

Yabemiya nodded. "Okay." She stared at the roujiamo, eyes shining with excitement. She had swallowed many times as she watched customers eating in the morning. After a busy morning, she finally got to enjoy her roujiamo. She took a bite solemnly, all expectant.

"It tastes so good!" Yabemiya exclaimed in delight.

Inside the soft, sweet bai ji bread was soft meat. As she bit into it, tasty juice was released. Every taste bud of hers was cheering and dancing. The taste was wilder than Yangzhou fried rice's. She closed her eyes and swallowed, and the aftertaste of the meat remained in her mouth.

After she swallowed, the pleasant food suddenly became violent. It turned into a hot current and rushed within her, stimulating her blood. Her face became red suddenly, feeling as if something were trying to get out of her body. She rose quickly to her feet and let out a long roar.

One button on her dress gave way and a part of her breasts was showing through. Then a tail covered with golden scales popped up from under her dress and overturned her chair.

Mag and Amy lifted their heads, swallowed the rice, and gave a startled look at the same time.

Mag raised an eyebrow. She burst her clothes too! Is this devolution? He saw her white breasts and cleavage. Wow, quite a view. Then he dropped his gaze to her tail.

The golden scales as large as the top knuckle of a little finger covered her tail, shining like gold. She wagged her tail uneasily. If she could become a dragon someday, she would be a golden one.

"Wow, a dragon tail!" Amy exclaimed as she watched Yabemiya.

Ugly Duckling saw the tail too. It seemed surprisingly unafraid, but it was baring its teeth and lifted its paw as if before an enemy.

Mag frowned. She is okay, I hope… Yabemiya should be happy if she could become a dragon. After all, dragons are the most powerful beings on the whole continent.

Yabemiya's roaring stopped. She opened her eyes slowly. The golden light from her left eye faded. Her face was red, her brow was covered by a sheen of sweat, and her eyes were dreamy. She felt the beast in her had been released just now. Her legs went weak from exhaustion.

Then she felt a warm feeling in her body. It was like a magical energy, soothing her every cell. She had never experienced this feeling before. She felt so good and let out a moan of comfort despite herself. Then she saw Mag and Amy, who were staring at her with a spoon in their hand each, frozen with surprise.

She looked down and saw her breasts. Her red face became even redder. She straightened and tried to cover them with her hands.

In nervousness, her tail overturned another chair. She looked back and saw her new part. "What… What is this?!" she cried as her face turned white, close to tears.

Mag gently put his hands on her shoulder. "Calm down, Miya. You're a half-dragon. This roujiamo has made you devolve or evolve. You look more like a dragon now. You should be happy," he said softly, looking into her eyes.

She was only 17, and she had been through so much that she always had a feeling of insecurity. Besides, a dragon tail was too big a surprise for anyone to stay calm.

Mag's gentle eyes eased her tension. "But… But I don't want a tail. I don't like those looks on their faces. This pair of horns was already making me look strange. I can't imagine how they would look at me if they found out I had a tail…"

Mag shook his head, smiling. "I don't think you're strange. I think you're cute," he said, looking at her with caring eyes.

"Yes, your tail looks very cute, Sister Miya. If you become a dragon, you can take me and Ugly Duckling for a flight," Amy said solemnly, nodding.

"But I just want to be normal. I want to work here, but now…" she said worriedly. The hands on her shoulders made her feel warm, and Mag and Amy's encouragement relieved her anxiety, but the golden tail was really not helping.

Mag looked at Yabemiya and felt sorry for her. Normally one would be thrilled at the prospect of becoming a dragon.

Now she had a chance to become a powerful dragon that others looked up to, and to pay back the people who had mistreated her.

But she didn't want it. Instead, she was worried that this tail might cost her her job. It seemed she didn't hate her old boss and those who had treated her so badly. She just wanted a peaceful life.

"Don't worry. You're my waitress, with or without a tail," Mag said seriously.

"Boss…" Yabemiya looked up at Mag, eyes red and watery.

Mag took his hands away. "And maybe you can retract your tail," Mag said with a smile. Yabemiya is not the first to have such a dramatic change after eating roujiamo. Amy and Sargeras both changed for the better, and the system promised that there wouldn't be any bad side effects. So, she may be able to control this change.

Yabemiya's eyes lit up. "Retract it?" She closed her eyes and clenched her fists. A short while later, with a sudden flash of golden light, her tail disappeared.

Amy looked down. "It's gone," she said with surprise.

Yabemiya's face lit up. "It's really gone!" She twirled around, making her dress fly up a little. The tail vanished. "Boss, I really made it disappear!" she said to Mag, excited.

Mag was also relieved. The system is pretty reliable. Then, out of curiosity, he said, "Good. Are there any other changes?"

She coiled her hands into fists. "I feel I have limitless power. I think I can work a whole day without getting tired," she said with surprise.

Mag nodded, smiling. "That's a good thing." He dropped his gaze to the roujiamo on the table. "Do you still want it?"

Chapter 112: Mission Accomplished

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Yabemiya looked at the roujiamo on the table, hesitant. The blissful experience she had just had from eating the roujiamo was itching at her. It tasted completely different from Yangzhou fried rice. It would be a shame if she could only have one bite.

"Sister Miya, your breasts are showing through," Amy said with her hand pointing at Yabemiya's chest.

The young waitress froze for an instant. She looked down and blushed immediately. She quickly turned to button her dress. Then she turned back, head bowed and face red with embarrassment.

Mag was very calm. He had seen this stuff so often that it didn't even affect him anymore. She's just a little girl; besides, she's my employee.

"Sister Miya, you can hide your tail after finishing your roujiamos," advised Amy as she ate the fried rice. "If it's any consolation, we find it very cute."

Mag nodded. "I think it's a good idea if you still want to eat them. Nobody would know that you have a tail."

Yabemiya looked at the genuine look in the eyes of Mag and Amy, hesitated a moment, and nodded. She picked up the overturned chairs, lifted the roujiamo on the table, let out her breath in a long exhalation, and took another bite.

The pleasant taste spread in her mouth and turned into a violent current. Her tail popped up again. She didn't roar, though. Her chest heaved slightly, but she didn't burst her dress.

She wagged her golden tail behind her with joy. After a while, she finished the two roujiamos. Looking at the empty bag in her hand, the young waitress ran her pink tongue over her red lips, not quite satisfied.

"Sister Miya, it's very delicious, right?" Amy asked proudly.

Yabemiya nodded earnestly. "Yes. The roujiamo made by boss is very tasty!" She had never had anything this good before. In fact, she had never imagined that such divine food existed. "And I think my strength has increased a little. It seems to have a special effect on me."

"Then you can eat roujiamo instead of fried rice for lunch if you want," Mag said, smiling, and took a bite of his roujiamo. He felt very good with two girls praising him every day.

After lunch, Mag had a rest. At 11:30 am, he opened the door.

Although Yabemiya wasn't able to control her transformation right now, she only needed a minute to retract her tail. It wasn't too big a trouble for her, so her worries had lessened greatly.

Her strength had increased, making Mag a little envious. She seemed to have inexhaustible energy in her skinny body. Even hundreds of trips a day between the kitchen and the dining room wouldn't even tire her a bit.

After dinner, Yabemiya cleaned the restaurant. Then she said goodbye to Mag and Amy, who were about to wash the dishes. Today she had smiled what she used to smile in a year. Turns out working can be pleasant too , she realized.

"Bye, Sister Miya," Amy said as she waved her little hand sleepily, holding Ugly Duckling in her arms.

"Be careful on your way home," Mag said, smiling.

"Thank you, Boss. I will." Yabemiya gave a serious nod and left.

Mag put the last few bowls in the kitchen cupboard. It was much easier now that he had a waitress. He had slaved away in the kitchen for a long day, but he didn't feel tired. The legwork was indeed more tiring than cooking.

"Congratulations!" the system said. "You have accomplished the mission of selling 1,000 roujiamos in ten days and unlocked the tofu pudding. Please go to the test field within 24 hours."

I finally did it , Mag thought. Then, a glittering experience bag appeared in his head. Looks like I have to spend months in the test field again. Sweet and savory tofu pudding are very different.

Mag carried the sleepy Amy and Ugly Duckling upstairs. Then he washed up and brushed his teeth. After the two little things fell asleep, he lay down on the bed, tilted his head, and glanced at the clock. It was already 10 pm. He closed his eyes and entered the test field.

Inside the experience bag, there were savory tofu pudding, sweet tofu pudding, and spicy tofu pudding. The spicy one was gray, so Mag couldn't click it, which meant he had no right to learn it currently.

I'm an owner now, so the right thing to do is meet more customers' needs and try to make more money. Mag smiled. He had made up his mind.

He didn't need to consider whether or not his tofu puddings would start a war between the savory tofu pudding people and the sweet ones. He was not like the sweet tofu pudding guy who sold his highly profitable restaurant to open a bar just because his restaurant had to sell savory tofu pudding.

On the cooking bench he saw a cylindrical blender, which was of a similar size to his rice cooker. Next to the blender stood a wooden barrel and a brown earthen jar. There were two sacks of soybeans on the floor, and he found plaster, various seasonings, and all the sides he needed.

"This should be a dish easy enough to do. I may be able to leave the test field earlier than before," Mag muttered to himself. Then the look on his face became odd when he thought of the remarks he had made about the tofu pudding in his previous life. It may not be easy after all.

He didn't have to soak the soybeans in the test field. He blended the beans in the blender and poured the blended soy milk over several sheets of gauze and into the barrel to strain it. Then he poured the strained soy milk into the pot and boiled it over high heat.

He dissolved the plaster with some water and poured the mixture into the earthen jar. Then he added the hot soy milk into it. After a while, the thin soy milk had magically turned into tender tofu pudding.

Mag raised an eyebrow. Making tofu pudding is indeed very easy. Never thought I'd succeed at the first try.

"The color is not white enough and it tastes too firm. Do it again!" the system said.

Mag took a closer look at the food. "It's really not white enough…" Clearly it was not as simple as it seemed.

As time went by, Meg had tried hundreds and thousands of times and failed.

"System, try again." Mag put two bowls of tofu pudding on the cooking bench softly.

The one on the left was white and tender, seasoned with golden-red syrup; the one on the right was seasoned with orange-red sauce, mashed garlic, shredded zha cai, wood-ear mushrooms, and green onions.

Chapter 113: Win Over Alex, Win The War

Translator:Henyee Translations

Editor:Henyee Translations

After 50 days of practicing, Mag was finally able to make such beautiful tofu pudding. If he could go back in time, he would slap himself across the face. "Keep that tongue to yourself if you have nothing good to say!" he would tell himself.

The requirements he had made before had come back to bite him. Although he had the most perfect experience of making tofu pudding in his head and had practiced thousands of times, he wasn't very confident in passing the test.

These two bowls of tofu pudding were the best he had ever made. Both the tofu pudding and the sides were all excellent. The faint fragrance of the tofu pudding and the sauce made him swallow in spite of himself.

People who loved sweet tofu pudding would be more interested in the left one. After all, even Mag wanted to try it as he smelled the faint, agreeable fragrance.

Mag was waiting for the system's judgment, nervous and expectant.

When it came to cooking, the system was very adamant. It was one of its principles.

Mag never thought about completing his mission through other means. He wanted to pass the test fair and square.

The system paused for a while before it said, "Based on your requirements…

"1. Color: white like jade and impurity-free—achieved.

"2. Texture: tender and watery. It should melt in the mouth and have a faint fragrance—achieved.

"3. Sides: fresh and tasty. They should go great with tofu pudding—achieved.

"4. Sauce: orange-red, clear, delicious, agreeably greasy—achieved.

"You've met the requirements of the savory tofu pudding. Although you made no remarks about the sweet tofu pudding, according to my judgment, your sweet tofu pudding is as good as the savory one.

"Congratulations! You have mastered the sweet and savory tofu pudding. Your mission is complete."

Mag heaved a sigh of relief and smiled with delight. All his effort had finally paid off. Now he could make some tofu pudding for Amy's breakfast.

A bowl of savory tofu pudding and a la zhi roujiamo for breakfast—perfect!

He wanted to try it as he looked at the savory tofu pudding, but he tore his eyes away from it. "System, let me out, I have to soak the beans," Mag said loudly.

The test field disappeared. Mag opened his eyes and rested for a while. Then he turned on his bedside lamp and looked at the time. It was already 2 am.

I still have time to make a bowl of tofu pudding for Amy. She will be surprised.Mag smiled. He got up softly, put on his clothes, and prepared to go downstairs.

"Mom? Is it you? Are you waiting for me?" Amy murmured suddenly.

Mag froze for an instant. Then he walked to Amy's crib quietly. She was lying in bed, her lips pouting, her long eyelashes quivering. She looked surprised and aggrieved, talking in her sleep.

"But… I don't even know your face. Can you please turn around? I just want to look at your face…" Amy's voice became even more aggrieved. She waved her little hands as if trying to hold something.

"Amy, dad is here. I'm here," Mag said softly, holding her hands in his big, warm hands.

Mag's heart sank. Although he had been trying hard to give Amy all the love and warmth, it seemed that she still missed her mother. After all, she was only a four-year-old child. Other children could snuggle up in the arms of their mothers, but she didn't even know what her mother looked like.

Ugly Duckling also woke up. It gave a soft cry and licked Amy's arm, seeming to be worried.

"Father…"Amy murmured. She calmed down as she felt the warmth of her father's big hand, and fell asleep peacefully.

Mag put Amy's hands into the quilt, tucked her in, and stroked the kitten's head. What happened to her mother? Where is she now?he thought, frowning. Then he looked at Amy's face and clenched his fist. "I didn't want to dig into Mag Alex's past, but I think I have to try to find Amy's mother now. Amy would be much happier if she were here. She is hiding so much in her heart. Such a thoughtful girl."

Mag went downstairs and tried to remember the elf princess, but failed. He didn't know whether the memories had been erased by Mag Alex himself or by those people.

Mag couldn't remember her voice, her face, even her name. He only knew that she was an elven princess and Amy's mother.

It should have been against her will. Otherwise, they needed not have gone to such extraordinary lengths.Mag wrote several names on a piece of paper.

Mag Alex was a proud man. He would never have said a word if she had broken up with him out of her own will. But if they were forced to break up, then it would all make sense.

That night, he had killed two 9th-tier knights, three 9th-tier demons, and one 10th-tier magic caster, although he had been badly wounded himself. As expected of the strongest 9th-tier Griffin Rider on the whole continent!

"Mag Alex, elven princess, the empire royals, Magus Tower, elves, demons…" Mag murmured in a low voice. Those were the parties involved in that incident. Mag Alex had analyzed that before, so he could find some useful information in his memory.

It should have been the second price who gave that order. The king of the Roth Empire had four sons. His third son's right leg was crippled, while his youngest son was only seven, so the 30-year-old first price and the 26-year-old second price were more likely to be the next king.

The first prince had a good relationship with the army, being a seasoned warrior. He had fought together with Mag Alex once. The army would like him to be the next king.

The second price was talented in magic. He addressed every magic caster in the Magus Tower as master, growing up there. He claimed that he was a disciple of all the royal magic casters. He always had great respect for even normal magic casters, and thus had won their hearts.

So the first and second price were well-matched in strength. No one knew who would win.

While they were preparing for war, Mag Alex, who had killed dragons and saved many people, overshadowed magic casters and became well-known across the whole continent.

Some had said, "Win over Alex, win the war!"

Chapter 114: A Melee Magic Caster

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Mag Alex had been given many titles—dragon slayer, Griffin Knight, Imperial General. Since the first and second price were equally matched in strength, Mag Alex could almost determine the course of the war. He had been young and had gradually become the mainstay of the imperial army, so even the king asked for his opinion.

Most people thought Mag Alex would never side with the second prince; there was no love lost between the army and the Magus Tower. The army supported the first prince, and even the marshal spoke highly of him.

Now, the first prince had a better chance at winning the throne, or so they thought.

Mag pointed his pen at the second prince, and then at the first prince. Actually, Mag Alex hadn't decided to side with either until that incident. He had found the second prince mild and the first belligerent and witless, so he hadn't wanted the first to be the next king.

After that incident, what the first prince had done really disappointed Mag Alex. He had tried to make the most of that incident, and nobody had cared a bit about his and his daughter's safety. He was indeed as cold-hearted as he had expected.

The elven queen must have been behind all this. Otherwise, no one would have dared to take Amy from the elven princess. Besides, not everyone could give orders to those high-tier elf magic casters.

As to the demons, they must have been hired to muddy the waters and take the blame. They blamed them for that incident and rounded up all the demons in Rodu for questioning. Then they were all deported from the Roth Empire. Humans and demons were at each other's throats. The lord of demons must have been furious.

The reason why Mag didn't die after all his meridians had been broken was probably because of Amy and the elven princess, who was the elven queen's only heir. The queen must have spared Mag's life for her sake.

She must be in the Wind Forest right now. I don't know what happened to her, but she should be safe unless the queen has found a better heir. Mag drew a circle around "elven princess".

Even such a strong warrior as Mag Alex had almost got himself killed. He had managed to settle here, so clearly Mag couldn't blow who he really was right now. He needed to find out what had happened to the elven princess first, and then decide whether it was safe for Amy to see her.

Mag hadn't planned to get himself in trouble looking for her until he saw Amy's sad face. He didn't want her to be so unhappy.

The little thing was very sensitive. She had asked Mag about her mother once when she was little, but Mag hadn't said a word. She never asked again after. Mag had thought she had forgotten about her mother, but obviously he was wrong. She only hid her longings in her heart.

Next rest day, I'll go to a detective agency in disguise and ask about the elves. Guess I have to try to find out everything about the elven princess again, Mag thought, looking down at the piece of paper in his hand. He put a cross on "Magus Tower", "first prince", "second prince", and "elven queen" separately. Although he wasn't in a rush to avenge Mag Alex, he didn't mind setting them up if he had a chance. He still remembered that someone had suggested killing Mag Alex and Amy that night.

I'm not interested in politics, but I'd sooner support the third prince, who is obsessed with carpentry, than see his two brothers become the king. Mag twisted his mouth, tore the paper up, put a lighted match to the pieces, and watched them burn to ashes in the trash can. Then he turned around and walked towards the kitchen.

The blender was already in place, and so was the new oven. The kitchen was so big that it didn't seem crowded even with so many cooking utensils, while the tools were not fixed, and could be put away when they were not needed.

Mag opened the fridge. The soybeans and all the ingredients needed were already inside. The system is very motivated when it comes to food.

Mag didn't worry about the price of the ingredients. He would simply sell the dish at a much higher price.

He soaked some beans in a large bowl. He had intended to make two bowls of tofu pudding for Amy and himself, but then he thought for a moment, and added some more beans in the water. After that, he turned off the light and went upstairs to sleep.

In a simple yet elegant room, Krassu was drawing something on a piece of paper attentively by the light of an oil lamp.

"Lord Krassu, are you seriously building a magic room in Chaos City?" a lean middle-aged man asked, incredulous. There was a little black tower on his chest—the Magus Tower.

"Yes. Arthur, tomorrow morning you'll go back to Rodu and ask them to bring me all the things I need. Don't forget those things I've been saving. Bring all of them to me intact," Crassus said without raising his head. He paused a moment, put down his pen, turned to Arthur, and added seriously, "And tell those old farts that if I'm one item short, I'll tear down a floor; 36 items short, and I'll tear down the whole Magus Tower."

"Yes!" Arthur said quickly, giving a serious nod. The old man got back to drawing. He had been serving Krassu for 20 years. Maybe few people remember this white-haired magic caster. He is the only one who fought a dragon in close combat—and won too.

Krassu was admitted into the tower at 18. Now, he was over 120 years old. Arthur's grandfather had served him, then his father, and now he was serving him. He had heard his stories growing up. He knew that the old man liked to live on the 18th floor not because he was the 18th best magic caster in the tower, but because he liked the number 18. He could live on the 36th floor if he liked.

100 years ago, he had been no less famous than Alex had been several years ago. The Magus Tower's quick rise in fame had been mainly on account of him.

But he's not young anymore. We travelled far to try to find a disciple for him. Never thought he'd settle here. Looks like he wants to spend the rest of his life here, Arthur thought, feeling a mixture of emotions.

"Prepare a carriage for me early in the morning. I will go to the Mamy restaurant. You may leave now," Krassu said.

"Yes, Lord Krassu," said Arthur. He went out quietly.

The old man sat alone, drawing for a long while after his servant was gone. He put down his pen and looked at the magic room design drawing on the paper. A smile appeared on his old face. He rose to his feet and walked up to the window. Above, several stars were peering through dark clouds. He sighed. "Irina said she would have a daughter and let her be my disciple," he muttered to himself. "She wanted me to build a beautiful magic room and teach her the most powerful magic. But, I'm afraid I'm too old to wait any longer. Luckily, I've found a talented little girl. But I don't know if she'll like this magic room…"

Chapter 115: Elf Princess

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

In a huge cave, a tall tree stood over 100 meters high, its trunk so thick that it would take a dozen men with outstretched arms to reach around it. It branched at 50 meters high, with thousands of long, thin branches hanging down, just like a weeping willow. It almost filled up the whole cave.

Each branch had countless green heart-shaped leaves gleaming in the dark, full of life. The branches swayed slightly, illuminating the cave.

Fireflies were flying amid the branches, making the cave look like a dreamland.

Under the big tree, a girl in a white dress was looking up at a firefly on a leaf, her silver hair hanging loose over her shoulder. Her skin was as white as snow, her face was exquisite like a picture, and she had a golden moon between her eyebrows. Her pointy ears were very white and thin, almost translucent. She was frowning as if musing on something.

The branches parted automatically to give her space, seemingly to show their respect and love.

"Princess Irina," a crisp voice called out from outside the cave. An elf girl in green ran into the cave. The branches seemed to be deliberately teasing her, touching her face and body. She ran over to Irina, panting heavily yet delighted.

"Bean Sprout, what brings you here?" Irina asked, her face still as she was staring at that firefly.

"Princess, you said you wouldn't call me that again…" Firis made a sour face as she looked at Irina standing under the Tree of Life. Although the princess has given all of us odd nicknames, Bean Sprout is too ugly…

Irina turned to her and nodded as she stared at her chest. "Okay, Bean Sprout. Your breasts grew smaller again. They'll become paltry plains at this rate."

"I'm still young. They'll grow big," Firis said with confidence as she looked down at her breasts.

Irina shook her head. "No, they won't. Mine haven't changed after I passed 18," she said, looking into her eyes.

Firis fought to keep the sadness out of her voice, but failed. "I haven't lost faith in them…" she said, biting her lip.

Irina smiled. "I'm bored, so cry if you want to."

Firis fell silent, giving a wry look. Princess is so annoying, but I can't make myself angry at her. Then her face lit up. "Princess, I come bearing good news from Rodu."

Irina raised her voice a little bit. "Tell me." She lifted her beautiful eyebrows and looked at Firis.

Firis knew this look. It meant the princess was serious. She said quietly, "Snarr said in his secret report that he was fairly positive that your daughter and he are still alive. He had recreated what had happened that day using his ability. He said he will tell you more when he comes back."

Irina nodded. Her face was a mask, still and betraying nothing, but her fist was clenched tight. Firis was biting her lips, and seemed hesitant. "Leave me if you have nothing else to say. I don't feel like watching you cry right now," the princess said as she waved Firis away.

"There is one other thing. Lady Helena recommended again yesterday that the queen found a new heir, and she suggested Lady Sally," Firis said with a worried look.

Irina nodded. "That old witch has finally found a nice girl. Slug always followed me around when she was little." Then her voice became chilly. "Helena seems to be in a rush to bite the dust. Apparently, she doesn't know that if I wanted her dead, nobody could stop me."

The branches started moving violently, making a whistling sound as if the tree had perceived the change in her mood.

Firis dared not say a word, her head bowed. The Tree of Life had been obeying only Irina since she was 18. She was invincible here.

Irina calmed herself down again. "Leave me," she said softly.

"Yes, Princess," Firis said, and walked quickly towards the entrance. The branches parted to let her pass. Then the stone door closed, and everything fell silent again.

Her voice broke the silence. "Amy, Mag, where are you?" All the branches reached upwards, and countless fireflies gathered together and circled around Irina like a ribbon. She stood alone under the tree, lonely.

Mag got up early the next day.

Amy and Ugly Duckling were still sleeping soundly. Mag gently kissed Amy on the forehead, and thought, She would be very happy if her mother could kiss her.

Mag stayed with her for a while before he went downstairs to prepare ingredients. Yabemiya came to work before six o'clock as yesterday.

"Good morning, Boss," Yabemiya said to Mag with a smile. She had worked a long day yesterday and got up early, but didn't look tired.

Mag nodded. "Good morning, Miya. You really don't need to come here so early." He glimpsed half a pancake in her hand.

"I'm used to waking up early, so I think I should come here and help you, but let me finish my breakfast first," Yabemiya said shyly, and hurriedly stuffed the remaining pancake into her mouth. Some got stuck in her throat in her hurry to swallow it. She coughed, and her face turned red.

"Come in and drink some water," Mag said quickly. He walked into the kitchen and poured a glass of water for Yabemiya, who was still coughing.

"Thank you," Yabemiya took the water and drank some. Moments later, she sighed with relief, and felt a little embarrassed.

"Have a rest. I don't need your help right now, but maybe you can help me taste the new dish later," Mag said, smiling. Considering the salary and free lunch he offered her, he was a good boss. He was thinking about raising her salary and benefits next month, when he wasn't in need of money.

After all, the girl worked very hard. His earnings had risen by 30% yesterday, and his workload had decreased a lot. He was very lucky. He judged that she worked harder than two waitresses combined.

"Okay, thank you." Yabemiya wanted very much to help, but she bit back the words as she watched Mag's back. She wasn't very confident that she could help. Such divine food can only be made by boss.

New dish? What is it? She looked at Mag out of curiosity. Yangzhou fried rice and roujiamo are both very delicious. This new dish must be very good too. She became intrigued.

Chapter 116: The Debut Of Tofu Pudding

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

The beans were almost well soaked. Mag put the beans in the blender and prepared some ingredients for roujiamo. He took a glance at Yabemiya. Luckily, I soaked enough beans. I'll have her try the tofu pudding to see whether people in this world like it or not.

As he boiled the soy milk in the pot, a faint fragrance floated out of the kitchen.

Yabemiya's eyes brightened. Such a good smell! The fragrance of soy milk reminded her of her mother. When she was little, her mother had cooked soybeans with oil and salt after soaking them overnight. The beans were sweet and delicious, and had the same fragrance as she was smelling now, but she hadn't eaten that dish for years. The new dish is boiled soybeans? she wondered.

After the tofu pudding was ready, Mag added syrup, gravy, and various sides. He walked out of the kitchen, holding two bowls of tofu pudding, and put them before Yabemiya. "Our new dish, tofu pudding. Try it and see if you like it," Mag said, smiling.

"Tofu pudding?" Yabemiya's face lit up; she was watching the two white bowls. The tofu pudding was very soft, and as white as jade. It had shaken a little when Mag put it on the table, so elastic and lovely.

The left bowl had red syrup on it, and the right one was sprinkled with a lot of sides. The sweet smell of tofu pudding and syrup tickled her nose and made her swallow her saliva. She couldn't tear her eyes away from the left one.

"The left one is sweet tofu pudding, and the right one is savory. You can try whichever you like," Mag said. He could tell from the look on her face that she liked the sweet one.

Yabemiya's eyes went from Mag's face to the two bowls before her, agonizing. "But… it's not lunchtime yet."

Mag smiled and saw her worries. "It's your job to try the new dish. Go ahead."

The young waitress's eyes lit up immediately. She had never thought that trying new dishes was also one of her duties. They both looked delicious, but apparently she preferred the left one. "Can I try the sweet one?" she asked, looking up at Mag.

Mag nodded with a smile. "Sure." He felt a little upset, though—she had chosen the sweet one over his favorite savory one.

Yet he wasn't agitated. He was a restaurateur now. He had decided to leave the past behind and be more open-minded about other people's tastes.

Mobai only ate Yangzhou fried rice every day, while Sargeras preferred roujiamo. He had come to find it natural now that he was an owner of a restaurant.

Since he would sell the sweet tofu pudding as well as the savory one, it could be anticipated that many customers would choose the sweet one. There were no stereotypes here like those in his previous life, so he judged that people here would be more reasonable towards each other.

Yabemiya carefully held the sweet one up in two hands and put it down before her. She picked up the white spoon and scooped some from the edge slowly.

It was like steamed egg custard, only more elastic. The spoon left a white hole in the tofu pudding, and then the red syrup seeped into it. The tofu pudding covered by syrup shook slightly on her spoon, delicate like a piece of art.

Yabemiya froze for an instant. "It's so beautiful!" The pleasant smell made her bring the spoon into her mouth. The sweet, tender tofu pudding almost melted on her tongue. The strong taste of the syrup worked perfectly with the tofu pudding. Eventually, her eyes closed without her permission.

The sweet taste made her feel like she had fallen into a sea of candies, surrounded by sweet candies. She liked candies, but they had been an extravagance to her when she was growing up. More often than not, she had to go hungry, so she didn't even dare dream of this sweet feeling.

A tear dropped from her eye onto the table. A happy tear.

The tofu pudding was sweet, but not too sweet. After she swallowed, the pleasant taste lingered in her mouth. She opened her eyes and stared at the bowl in front of her. She brought another spoonful into her mouth, and another… She was eating it with mounting happiness.

"Ding!"

The spoon clattered on the bowl. She opened her eyes, and was surprised to find that she had already finished it all. The only thing left was a little syrup at the bottom of the bowl. In spite of herself, she picked up the bowl and licked it. The sweet syrup had really fascinated her.

"Do you like it?" asked Mag, expectant. He already knew the answer, though.

She nodded vigorously. "Yes! It's very good. Sweet, soft, and very delicious!" Yabemiya put down the bowl, blushing. She had licked a plate the other day, and the sweet tofu pudding today had made her lick the bowl.

She paused a moment and stroked her face. "And my face feels cool. I think my skin has become dewy."

Mag was taken aback. It's able to soften the skin? He had expected the tofu pudding to have some special effect, though. Women always craved softer skin, so they could never resist this dish if its effect was universal.

"Do you want to try this savory one?" Mag asked tentatively. Maybe she'll find herself prefer the savory one.

Yabemiya shook her head. "No. Thank you, Boss. I think the sweet tofu pudding is the best." As far as she was concerned, the savory one was no match for such sweet happiness.

Chapter 117: It's Very Good!

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Mag raised an eyebrow. This remark sounds familiar… A lot of people had said the similar thing on the Internet, so he had expected to hear it, but he hadn't expected Yabemiya to be the first one to say it.

Smiling, Mag shook his head. "You may find yourself wrong," he said. Disagreement arose already, and among us… He didn't want to argue with his waitress. He seated himself and picked up the savory tofu pudding.

He had chosen the sides according to his taste. On top of the white, tender tofu pudding were orange-red gravy, chopped zha cai, cilantro, green onion, mashed garlic, and some sesame oil. It was still steaming.

He spooned some into his mouth. The tofu pudding was very watery and smooth, and melted with the savory gravy right away.

The fresh sides went great with tofu pudding. After he swallowed, the faint fragrance remained in his mouth.

Mag's eyes lit up. It's even better than the bai's tofu pudding in Beijing! It's just perfect! He quickened his hand. Three minutes later, he put down the spoon and looked at the empty bowl, satisfied. A steaming savory tofu pudding is great for breakfast. I think a roujiamo would make it even better. Miya prefers sweet tofu pudding, and I prefer the savory one. Which one will Amy like?

"Father, I'm hungry," Amy said, holding Ugly Duckling in her arms. She had already come downstairs. She took a sniff, and asked curiously, "Father, have you cooked a new dish?"

"Yes. We have a new dish. Take a seat. I'll bring you some tofu pudding. Do you like it sweet or savory?" Mag asked, rising to his feet.

"Tofu pudding? Sweet or savory?" Amy didn't understand.

"Amy, the sweet one is very delicious. You'll like it," Yabemiya suggested.

Mag lifted an eyebrow. That's not fair! I have to think of something to describe the savory tofu pudding.

Amy's eyes brightened. "Really? But I'm sure the savory one is very tasty too." She turned to Mag. "Father, can I try both?"

Mag was taken by surprise. "Sure." Then he smiled. I should have seen that coming. Such a little foodie! Which one will she prefer after she has tried both?

"Thank you, Father!" Amy skipped happily over to the table, holding the little kitten. She looked at Mag with her big blue eyes. Although she didn't know what tofu pudding was, she liked anything that was cooked by her father.

After a while, Mag stepped out of the kitchen with two bowls. He put them on the table. "The left one is sweet, and the right one is savory. Which one do you like to try first?"

Yabemiya gazed at Amy expectantly. She could tell that her boss liked the savory one better, but she favored the sweet one, so naturally she hoped that Amy would like it too.

Amy waved her small hand over the dish. "Smells delicious!" she said happily.

"Meow, meow…" Ugly Duckling cried in Amy's arms. It climbed along her arm, trying to see what was in the bowls.

Amy pushed its little head down. "Stop looking. They're mine!"

"Meow…" Ugly Duckling gave Amy a sullen look, its sapphire eyes awfully sad.

Amy paid it no mind. Her eyes went from one bowl to the other. The tender tofu pudding was so lovely and white as if it had been made of snow. She hesitated for a moment, and pulled the savory one closer to her. She picked up the spoon.

Mag allowed himself a smile. Atta girl! As expected of my daughter!

Yabemiya was a little disappointed, but she hadn't given up hope. Amy will like the sweet one too, she thought adamantly.

"I'll start eating." Amy scooped a spoonful of tofu pudding. It was shaking a little in the spoon, white, tender, elastic, and covered by orange-red gravy and chopped zha cai. After she brought the spoon into her mouth, the food melted right away. The tasty tofu pudding and delicious zha cai and gravy blended together perfectly, bringing a smile to her face.

After she swallowed, she looked up at the expectant Mag. "Father, this tofu pudding is very good. But can I have a roujiamo to go with it?"

Mag nodded. "Sure. I'll make one for you," he said. Amy has the same opinion as me! She is really talented in eating.

Is it really that good? Yabemiya wondered as she watched Amy eating happily. But when her eyes went from Amy to the sweet tofu pudding, the look on her face became determined again. The sweet one is the best!

Mag made two roujiamos quickly, and then made a bowl of savory tofu pudding for himself.

Amy took a bite of roujiamo, and ate a spoonful of tofu pudding. Her eyes went wide, and she gave a radiant smile. She rocked her body from side to side, looking very happy.

Ugly Duckling's eyes followed the movements of Amy's spoon, full of longing.

Mag smiled—Amy liked the savory tofu pudding.

A sharp knock came from the door. Mag took a look at the time. It was 7 am, so he didn't intend to open the door.

"Mag, it's me. I'm from Sherlock Detective Agency. I've got something for you," an urgent voice called out.

Chapter 118: I Want To Try The Sweet One Too

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Mag put down the roujiamo in his hand and rose to his feet to open the door. Outside stood a tall, lean man in a black long gown, his black hat almost over his eyes. He stood sideways, and said in a low voice, "May I come in?"

Mag recognized his face. He nodded and let him in, then closed the door again. The man was the owner of the private detective agency that Mag had been to the other day. Mag had hired him to investigate Krassu and Urien. His name, Sherlock, was the reason why Mag had chosen him. Mag never thought to see him so soon.

"These are the files you wanted. I don't know what you're planning to do, but I advise you not to mess with them," Sherlock said, pulling a paper bag out of his clothes and handing it to Mag. He took a glance at Yabemiya and Amy, and lowered his voice. "Krassu's file wasn't very hard to get. It's very detailed, and worth every coin. But I've only found a little about the other magic caster. Last night, I sneaked into his shop, and he burnt my hair. He is very powerful."

Mag glanced at his burnt hair showing under his hat. The last time he saw him, he had had long curly hair, a mustache, and a wild smile, and now he was very cautious and a little pale. He must have had a rough night.

Mag nodded. "Thank you." The bag was pretty heavy, so now he should be able to decide who was more suitable to become Amy's master. Sherlock had done a pretty good job.

The detective nodded. "I'll take my leave, then." Apparently, he didn't want to stay. Then he saw Amy, who was eating roujiamo, and paused for a moment.

It's the adorable girl from the other day. What's that strange cake in her hand? And what's that white dish in the bowl? he wondered. The pleasant smell of meat and tofu pudding made him swallow. He hadn't eaten anything yet, because he had to deliver the bag to Mag before the magic potion shop opened. His stomach rumbled at the inviting smell.

"Do you serve breakfast yet, Mag?" asked Sherlock.

Mag shook his head. "Not for another 30 minutes. Sorry." He gave a strange smile and handed 10 gold coins to the detective. 10 gold coins is not even enough to buy two plates of Yangzhou fried rice. I feel sorry about his hair.

Sherlock nodded. "I see. Guess I have to come back again sometime. Bye." He took another look at the roujiamo in Amy's hand and left.

Mag locked the door and seated himself on a chair by the door. He pulled the files out of the bag and started reading fast. He furrowed his brow, but his frown soon disappeared, replaced by a hesitant look.

Krassu's file was indeed very detailed, including his life from when he was young to the day he arrived at Chaos City. Sherlock even knew where the old man was living right now.

He has found so much information on a royal magic caster. He truly is a professional.

Mag was relieved as he was more or less sure now that Krassu had nothing to do with that incident years before. He is not so dangerous as long as he's not one of them.

He had found out that Krassu knew the elven princess. He wanted to take her on as his disciple, but somehow it didn't work out. So maybe he still likes her.

Urien's file was much thinner. The file said that he was a very mysterious magic caster who had run his magic potion shop on the Aden Square for almost 10 years. His business was neither good nor bad. He sold various low-tier magic potions, and could provide them in large quantities, so many adventurer groups were his customers. He always kept a low profile.

Sherlock mentioned that there might be some grudge between Urien and Krassu, but he didn't go into details. Mag didn't know whether he didn't know much or was afraid of them.

Looks like Krassu is a better choice than the shadowy Urien, Mag thought as he furrowed his brow. Krassu wants to find a disciple. He is already 121. His days are numbered, so finding a disciple must be his first priority.

He was aware that Amy is a half-elf, but he hardly seemed to care. So apparently, he is very adamant. I think he is ready to deal with any problems Amy may cause him.

If he really likes Amy and won't take her to the Magus Tower…

Amy's cheerful voice interrupted his thinking. "Father, this savory tofu pudding is very tasty!" Mag put the files into the bag again. He walked over to Amy. She had already finished the roujiamo and a bowl of tofu pudding. She looked up at him, eyebrows like crescent moons from smiling.

"Do you like the savory one the most?" Mag asked with a smile, wiping the corner of her mouth clean.

Amy shook her head. "I want to try the sweet one too. I think it'll be as good as the savory one," she said as she stared at the tofu pudding with golden-red syrup, eyes shining with excitement. I'm almost full. This sweet tofu pudding will be my dessert. I'll be in heaven.

Mag nodded. "Okay. Try it." His little girl was a hopeless foodie, but there was nothing he could do, because she was so cute even when she asked for food! Mag pushed the bowl in front of her slowly.

Yabemiya's face lit up. She had thought that Amy might not try the sweet one, because she liked the savory one, but clearly she was wrong. Maybe she'll like this one better.

Amy spooned some sweet tofu pudding into her mouth. Her big blue eyes closed. The tofu pudding covered by syrup melted immediately, sweetness spreading in her mouth.

Both Mag and Yabemiya were gazing at Amy, expectant. Amy's judgment was very crucial.

Chapter 119: I'll Smash Your Head!

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

The restaurant became so quiet that the sound of Amy's swallowing was very clear.

Amy opened her eyes. "The sweet one is very good too," she said happily. Then she dug into it quickly.

Mag was taken by surprise. She didn't say which one she liked better… And she is eating with the same expression of delight she wore when she ate the sweet one.

Come to think of it, Amy looked just like this when she first ate Yangzhou fried rice and roujiamo. The intoxicated look and innocent smile on her face are making her even more adorable.

After a little while, Amy licked the bowl, and put it down reluctantly.

Smiling, Mag asked, "Which one do you like better? The savory or the sweet?"

"I like…" Amy started as Mag and Yabemiya watched her nervously. She thought a moment, and nodded. "I like them both. The savory one goes great with roujiamo, and makes it taste better. And it's better to eat the sweet one last. I feel so satisfied and so comfortable! They are both super delicious!"

Mag and Yabemiya exchanged an unhappy look. They had thought Amy would side with either of them, but Amy didn't choose sides. She liked both flavors. If the savory tofu pudding guys were to fight the sweet tofu pudding ones, they might all treat Amy as a friend, Mag thought.

There came a soft knock on the door. "Mag, it's me, Krassu. I need talk with you about something. Can you open the door?"

"It's half-beard grandpa!" Amy said merrily, looking to the door. "Father, can we give him a bowl of tofu pudding? I'm sure he'll like the sweet one. He is so old; I think he has no teeth to speak of. And the tofu pudding is very soft."

Mag shook his head with a smile. "We haven't started selling it officially. I'll go get the door." His feelings of hostility towards Krassu had grown weaker now that he had found out more about the old man. He knows the elven princess. Maybe I'll find more information from him. He's a much more reliable source that detectives.

When Mag was about to open the door, Krassu said, "Urien! Why are you here?!" His voice was thick with surprise and anger.

Apparently, the detective was right when he mentioned in his report that there might be some grudge between Urien and Krassu. They know each other, and maybe they hate each other too, Mag thought.

"Krassu, I've been living here for a decade. Why can't I be here?" Urien sneered. His voice was as harsh as the sound of metal rubbing together.

"Why! Why!" Black Coal echoed.

Krassu looked at the crow. "You featherless bird, one more word, and you'll be roasted," he said, giving Urien a glance from the corner of his eye. Why is he here? For food? Or for Amy? he wondered, irritated and worried.

Black Coal fought to keep the fear out of his voice, but failed. "I'm not afraid of you!" he said, moving closer to his master.

"Don't take that tone with my bird," Urien said icily, staring at Krassu with a sullen look. The air seemed to have become colder.

"I take that tone with whomever I want. I took that tone with the king when he was a prince," Krassu came back. The air had become a little hot.

The door opened with a "ding". The two magic casters turned to look at Mag.

"If you want to fight, fight somewhere else. I have a business to run. I don't want to see ice or fire near my door," Mag said as he stood between the two angry men, feeling hot and cold.

Krassu was still leaning on his tall magic staff, his white robe as clean as a whistle. Urien was wearing a black robe, a magic wand in one hand and a birdcage in the other. The bird was shivering in the corner with two leaves.

Krassu and Urien were taken by surprise. The king might not dare to say that to these two powerful magic casters if they fought in front of his palace.

They had never seen that coming.

They were shocked.

Krassu and Urien exchanged a glance. They hesitated for a moment, and drew back their auras.

"Mag…" they said at the exact same instant, and stopped, staring at each other.

"Let's talk inside," Mag said quickly before anything worse happened. Apparently, Urien also wanted to take Amy on as his disciple.

Krassu nodded. "Thank you." He entered the restaurant.

Urien paused a moment, and followed him in.

Mag closed the door, and pulled down the window shade.

I can't find a teacher for Amy from Chaos School, so maybe I should approach these two magic casters first.

Krassu's resume was fantastic. No magic caster had beaten a dragon with a staff other than him.

Urien might not be as famous as Krassu, but he was obviously as powerful. And, it seemed he had nothing to do with the Magus Tower.

Krassu stopped his feet, and turned to look at Urien. "Urien, 20 years ago, Irina didn't become my disciple because of you! If you want to try anything again this time, I'll smash your head even if it's the last thing I do!" Krassu declared seriously.

Chapter 120: He May Be Ugly, But He Can Sing!

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

"Heh, Krassu, do you take me for that stupid dragon? You'd better stay out of this, or I'll freeze you again!" Urien sneered, his voice cold as ice.

Irina? The name sounded familiar to Mag. Then the realization came as he watched the two furious old men.

Mag had read in Krassu's file that he had tried to make the elven princess his disciple 20 years ago but failed. Apparently, Urien was involved in it. And this Irina is most probably the elven princess.

"Black Coal! Hello! Where is Green Pea?" Amy said delightedly, jumping down the chair. Ugly Duckling was eying the crow with hostility. It meowed at him, and looked like it was about to fly at him.

"She's still sleeping, that lazybones," the crow said with disdain. He took a glance at Krassu, and cowered in fright again. He had never seen such a terrifying old man oozing danger.

Amy nodded. "Oh." Then, she turned to Urien and Krassu. "Turtle Grandpa, half-beard grandpa, are you fighting? No fighting in the restaurant."

Krassu smiled, and shook his head immediately. "No, we're just talking." The look on his face was very hilarious.

Urien hesitated a moment, and managed a smile. "We're not fighting."

"Oh," Amy said, disappointed. "You can take it outside if you want to fight. Then I can watch."

The two old men didn't know what to say. She was not here to mediate; she was encouraging them to fight! Amy reminded them of a young girl who had always wanted them to fight.

"Well, what brings you here?" Mag asked, stroking Amy's hair. As much as he'd like to watch them fight too, clearly it was not the right time nor place. They're here for Amy, or they wouldn't be so submissive.

"Mag, I'd like to take Amy on as my disciple," Krassu said. Mag gave a frown. The old man raised a hand, and added quickly, "I know you said you wouldn't let her leave your side. I won't take her to Rodu. I'll build a magic room and teach her here. In Chaos City, no, on the whole continent, few people are better than me at teaching magic."

Mag's face lit up. This way, Amy doesn't have to go to that Magus Tower. And he is indeed a very powerful magic caster…

The change of Mag's expression brought a smile to Krassu's lips. Over the last few days, he had figured out that Mag's decision was crucial.

"Yeah. Few people are better than you. And it just so happens I'm one of them," Urien said slowly. He turned to Mag and smiled. "I already have a magic room. I can teach her today. He has to ship all the materials from Rodu, and it will take him a month to build it. A month in which she'll learn the basics about magic and at least three magic spells—from me. She'll win at the starting line."

Mag rubbed his chin thoughtfully. In fact, he was really happy on the inside. Two powerful magic casters were selling themselves in order to make Amy their disciple.

Krassu waved his hand. "Magic room is not very necessary in the beginning. I just need to say the word, and the Gray Temple will let me use their magic room." Then he pulled a scroll out of his clothes, and spread it out on the table. "I have designed a magic room for Amy, one of a kind on the whole continent. It will be painted purple. And there will be a swing, wooden horse, and a lot of other amusement equipment for when she is tired from studying."

Amy walked up to the table with the kitten in her arms and saw the swing, wooden horse, and various toys on the scroll. The purple magic room was decorated with many colorful stars, so dreamy. "Wow, that looks like fun!" Amy exclaimed in excitement.

Mag was also a little surprised to find that Krassu had gone to such great lengths to design such a great magic room.

Urien craned his head to take a glance at the drawing. "Colorful but useless," he said with a tight look on his face. Despicable Krassu! He used the same trick before, and now he's using it again! This little girl is not as smart as Irina. She can't resist those toys, he thought, anxious.

Then he saw the birdcage, and his eyes brightened. "Amy, if you become my disciple, you can have Black Coal and Green Pea. They'll play with you every day," he said, smiling.

"Don't do this to me, old man! Amy has a cat!" cried the crow, flapping in his cage.

"Meow!" Ugly Duckling bared its teeth at Black Coal. It might fly at the bird at any minute.

Black Coal became more frightened. He wasn't very confident he could beat the little kitten.

Amy took a look at the crow with contempt, and said, "I don't want them. Ugly Duckling is ugly, and Black Coal is uglier. Their ugly faces may make me ugly too."

Krassu was worrying that the little girl might be tempted, so Amy's words made him grin. "How can a bird be so ugly? Amy, if you like birds, I'll catch a pretty peacock for you tomorrow."

Urien looked a little abashed. His bird was indeed quite ugly, featherless with two leaves covering his embarrassing parts. His back was up against a wall. He gave a dry smile. "Black Coal may be ugly, but he can sing. Come on, sing for us."

"Really?" Amy said, incredulous, looking at the crow.

Chapter 121: Calm Down And Have Some Tofu Pudding

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

"I'm the honorable Fama Odin Ben. I'll never sing!" Black Coal declared, cocking his head.

I don't think this stupid bird knows how to sing. A faint sneer of satisfaction crossed Krassu's face. It's rare to see him lose face.

Amy was a little disappointed. She turned to look at the drawing on the table again.

"I don't mind having some crow meat for dinner," Urien said coldly, staring at Black Coal.

The bird felt a cold shiver of fear run through him. Immediately, he turned to Amy. "Lovely Amy, which song do you like? Just tell me the same. I'm a great singer!"

Amy cocked her head to one side, and thought for a moment. "Can you sing 'a little girl with mushrooms'?"

Black Coal didn't understand. "A little what?" He stuck his head out of the cage and widened his eyes.

"A little girl with mushrooms," Amy repeated carefully.

It should be the song that her little elf sang the other day. I struck out with it that day. Apparently, the bird doesn't know the song. This has gotten interesting, thought Krassu.

Yabemiya watched the two very old men, wondering, Why are they so angry? And why are they trying to please Amy?

Few people in this world have heard that song. There's no way the crow can sing it. Amy is putting him in a difficult position, Mag thought.

But Amy hasn't heard many songs, and she only knows the name of this one. Black Coal has brought this on himself.

The bird raised his voice. "I've never heard of this song! You made it up!" he snarled.

"I didn't. It is a song, and my little elf can sing it," Amy said solemnly.

Black Coal wasn't convinced. "But… But I…" He became uneasy,

Urien took a look at Krassu's smirking face, and then turned to face his bird. "Sing," he said, his voice colder than ice. The cage got frosted instantly.

Black Coal gave a shudder, and started singing. "A little girl… goes to collect mushrooms, she finds a big mushroom and eats it, and then finds another and eats it…" He managed to turn this merry song into a doleful one.

Black Coal's voice was good, but the words were all wrong. The girl in the song who liked sharing had become a glutton who loved eating mushrooms.

Yabemiya giggled. It was the first time she had seen a crow sing. And it sang rather well.

Amy frowned as she listened. After the bird finished singing, she shook her head disappointedly. "Black Coal, please don't sing again. How can you sing so badly? My little elf can sing much better than you." Then she walked to the counter, took out the music box, and pushed the button.

Melodious notes filled the room immediately. How could Black Coal's yelling compete with this?

"Amy's little elf is the best singer. Who would ever want this stupid bird? Amy only needs a peacock to dance for her," Krassu said with a smile, stroking his beard.

Black Coal's eyes went wide as he stared at the little elf, silent. After the song was over, he turned slowly to face Urien. "I can't, even if you kill me."

Urien put the cage on the floor, and looked at Amy with a smile that was uglier than a frown. "Amy, if you become my disciple, you only need to walk a few steps to reach my house. You can go back home whenever you miss your father. And I'll pay for your meals. You can eat whatever you want wherever you like."

Amy's eyes lit up. "You'll pay for my meals? Even if I eat at home?"

Urien was taken by surprise, and looked a little odd. I forgot her family owns a restaurant. It's a little strange I have to pay for her meals when she eats at home. But I'm sure I can afford it. He nodded. "Yes. Just put it on my tab, and I'll settle it at the end of every month."

Amy's face lit up. "Whoa, Turtle Grandpa, you're so generous!" She had to eat three plates of Yangzhou fried rice, three roujiamos, and six bowls of tofu pudding every day, and they were very expensive. I eat too much. But if he would pay for my meals, I would save Father a lot of money.

"Have you no shame?!" Krassu said, staring at Urien. He is using food to entice Amy. That's my trick!

"Bite me," Urien said, giving a derisive laugh. Amy is more interested in food than his stupid magic room.

Krassu felt the anger coiling inside him. "Urien, I'll beat you to a pulp, just like I did 20 years ago!" he snapped, his white robe floating, fire shining in the sapphire on his staff.

He had come here to sway Mag and Amy with his sincerity. He had been very positive that they would accept his offer. He had never expected Urien to try to rob him of his disciple again.

Urien's face darkened. "That wouldn't have happened if you hadn't snuck up on me! And you call yourself a 10th-tier magic caster?! Didn't I freeze you in ice? Without Irina, you would never have gotten out of that well!" Frost appeared from under his feet and spread on the floor.

The air had suddenly become tense. Two powerful magic casters were on the verge of fighting.

"Calm down, Turtle Grandpa and half-beard grandpa," Amy said solemnly. "Have some tofu pudding and then talk. It'll put you in a good mood. Don't fight in the restaurant, or I'll get angry. I'm very bad-tempered!"

Chapter 122: Please Enjoy

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

The word "tofu pudding" meant nothing to the two old men. They took a look at Amy, and drew back their auras. The last thing they wanted was to tear down Mag's restaurant.

Although they had an old score to settle, they knew better than to settle it here. They were not reckless young men, and they had to make Amy happy.

"Mag, is this tofu pudding a new dish?" Krassu asked, looking at Mag with a smile.

Their offers were equally enticing, so they had to suck up to Mag now.

"Mag, your business is very good, so the food here must be good too. I'd like some tofu pudding, please," Urien said quickly.

Mag knew what was going on. He still had enough tofu pudding for both of them. I didn't plan to sell it today, but I can't embarrass Amy. Actually, he was also wondering if his tofu pudding would please Krassu and Urien. "Yes, it's a new dish. But it's not officially on sale yet. You can try it for free if you like. It comes in two flavors, savory and sweet. Which one would you like?"

"I recommend you charge them," the system said. "The ingredients are not free. Let me tell you the price of each ingredient…"

"Stop. Just tell me the total price for all the ingredients in one bowl of tofu pudding," Mag interrupted. "One of them may become Amy's master. Why I can't give them some tofu pudding for free? Besides, they'll be fascinated by it and come back again. System, you're so stingy and have no vision! You'll never get far."

The system fell silent. After a while, a line of words appeared in Mag's head. "Cost of a bowl of sweet or savory tofu pudding: 40 copper coins."

I guess I'll sell it at 200 copper coins each bowl, Mag thought, since it's good to the skin. It's worth the price. It'll definitely drive women crazy.

"Sweet."

"Savory."

Krassu and Urien started at almost the same time. They exchanged a look, and sat down at two adjacent tables.

Amy's eyes brightened. They chose different flavors. But, I'm sure they'll both like it, because Father's tofu pudding is very delicious.

The sweet one is the best. That old magic caster has a sharp eye, Yabemiya thought as she smiled at Krassu.

Mag nodded. "All right. Please wait a sec." The look on his face became a little strange as he turned around. They didn't even need to think about it.

The two old men sat there, silent. They were not trying to sweet-talk Amy. They were well-matched in power. They found themselves in the same position as 20 years ago. They wouldn't show their anxiety.

Krassu looked to the kitchen, expectant. What is this tofu pudding? Mag's Yangzhou fried rice is good, and many people like his roujiamo, so it should be good. And it's recommended by Amy.

He came here almost every day to see Amy and eat Yangzhou fried rice, which was better than anything in Rodu. It was an important reason why he had chosen to stay here to live out his days.

Urien took a look at his surroundings. The restaurant had been open for days, but it was the first time he had come here. He liked the decoration—it was neither resplendent nor flamboyant.

He dropped his gaze to the menu on the table, and remembered that he had offered to pay for Amy's meals. He put the birdcage on the floor and opened the menu. For an instant he froze. What? Only two dishes? Then he saw their prices, and was shocked.

600 copper coins for a plate of Yangzhou fried rice and 300 for a roujiamo?! A bottle of middle-grade recovery potion can only fetch me 10 gold coins. It's not even enough for me to eat two plates of this fried rice.

Is this their trick to rip me off? Urien took a glance at Amy. People always line up at their door, so I thought the dishes here were varied and at reasonable prices. How can the restaurant be so busy with only two dishes? And their prices are outrageous!

I guess I can't complain too much. Several thousand copper coins a day is nothing compared to a talented disciple. I'll earn this money by making more high-tier magic potions. Urien turned to look at the kitchen. A faint fragrance of soy milk floated in the air; he also smelled stewed meat. This meat aroma was a little strange to him. He became expectant.

"Meow, meow…" Ugly Duckling cried at Black Coal. It licked Amy's hand, seemingly anxious to get down on the floor.

"Ugly Duckling, do you want to play with Black Coal?" Amy asked softly.

The kitten nodded right away, waving its paws in excitement.

"Stay there if you dare!" Black Coal said nervously, looking at the kitten.

"Meow, meow!" Ugly Duckling became more excited.

"Okay. No fighting," Amy warned as she screwed up its face, putting it down on the floor.

"Sweet Amy, can you hold me for a while?" Black Coal implored as the kitten padded slowly towards him, baring its sharp teeth.

Amy shook her head. "No! I don't want to hold a featherless bird."

Mag walked out of the kitchen, holding two bowls of tofu pudding. He put down the sweet one and savory one before Krassu and Urien, respectively. "Sweet tofu pudding and savory tofu pudding. Please enjoy," he said, smiling.

Chapter 123: Which Flavor Is Authentic?

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

The tofu pudding was steaming in two white bowls.

Krassu's eyes lit up, gazing at the bowl before him.

Faint fragrance tickled his nose. Soybeans?

The square food was very white, with golden-red syrup. Together, they looked like a piece of white jade enclosed in amber. Elastic, it had shaken a little when Mag put it down. Krassu was amazed.

The sweet smell of the syrup was enough to make his mouth water. It was too tempting for a person who had a sweet tooth to resist.

Urien twisted his mouth. Yuck, too much sugar. Then he dropped his gaze to the bowl before him. His face lit up.

His tofu pudding was accompanied by various sides and orange-red gravy. It smelled really delicious.

Looks appetizing. It should be good, Urien thought expectantly.

They spooned some into their mouths almost at the same time.

Mag, Amy, and Yabemiya stood silent, staring at the two old men, wondering which flavor they would prefer.

Krassu's eyes went wide. This taste… The tofu pudding covered by syrup melted in his mouth instantly. The tofu pudding was very soft; the syrup was sweet but thin, and didn't hide the taste of tofu pudding.

After he swallowed, the fragrance and sweetness lingered in his mouth.

Krassu took a look at Mag, wondering, It should be made from soybeans, but how did soybeans become so tender? I don't even need to chew it. It's so soft and watery! This syrup is sweet, but not too sweet. It's very tasty. He couldn't stop eating it.

Urien was shocked, staring at the empty spoon in his hand. How can anything be this good?!

The soft, tender tofu pudding and the tasty gravy and chopped zha cai blended perfectly together, stimulating his taste buds and making them cheer and dance. The pleasant taste remained on his tongue after he swallowed.

Krassu had known Mag to be a great cook, so the tofu pudding didn't surprise him as much as it did Urien. The latter hadn't eaten anything cooked by Mag until now. He really loved the shock the food brought to him. He spooned some more into his mouth, and a smile appeared on his wrinkled face.

Mag also smiled. Looks like they like it. He felt good when his food put a genuine smile on his customer's face.

"Ding!"

"Ding!"

Krassu and Urien finished their tofu pudding almost simultaneously. They looked at their empty bowls, unsatisfied.

Urien put down the spoon. "I'd like a second bowl of savory tofu pudding, please. It's unbelievable!" he said to Mag, excited.

"The sweet one is the best!" Krassu said, looking askance at Urien. Then, he turned to Mag. "Mag, may I have a second bowl of sweet tofu pudding? I'll pay. Just name the price."

"Sweet food is for children. Grow up, old man!" Urien said, contempt in his eyes.

"Tofu pudding goes great with syrup. You'll never know the sweet feeling when it slides down the throat. You heretic, you should be burnt at the stake!" Krassu said angrily, glaring at Urien, his staff glowing red at the top.

"I'm a heretic? You're a heretic! The authentic tofu pudding is savory. You can't even imagine how good it tastes with the gravy and various sides!" Urien said loudly. Frost appeared from under his feet again, temperature dropping around him.

Mag screwed up his face as he watched the two furious magic casters. "Sorry. I didn't plan on selling it today, so there's no more tofu pudding left." They had kicked off the fight between the sweet tofu pudding people and the savory tofu pudding ones in this world.

They had come here for Amy, but the tofu pudding managed to attract their attention. In his past life, people had argued over which flavor was authentic using keyboards. They would never literally fight with each other over this disagreement.

However, Krassu and Urien were now ready to fight for their own beliefs.

"I like… the sweet one," Yabemiya murmured, her voice barely audible so that no one heard but herself.

Amy didn't understand their fury. They're both very delicious. Why do they have to quarrel?

Krassu and Urien became disappointed, and exchanged an angry glance.

The tofu pudding ignited the fuse of their anger.

Krassu rose to his feet. "Urien, you heretic! I've been putting up with you for too long. Let's fight! I'll smash your head!" he said furiously, leaning on his staff, glowering at Urien.

Urien rose from his table too. "I'm not afraid of you, Krassu. I'll freeze you in ice and feed you to the fishes!" he replied in a hoarse voice, his face grim.

"Are you fighting over which flavor is better?" Amy asked curiously.

Then she clapped her hands after pausing a moment. "What're you waiting for? Just don't fight in the restaurant."

Chapter 124: Bring The Whole World To Your Heel

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

The way Amy was acting reminded Krassu and Urien of Irina, who had clapped her hands and encouraged them to fight 20 years ago.

Irina had been able to learn any spell very quickly, just as if she was born to do it.

So, two of the most powerful magic casters had wanted to make her their disciple.

The elven princess was the best student they could ever hope for. She would master all their spells, and could live for as long as 800 years. Maybe people would remember them when she used magic after they were long gone. It was as good a way to be remembered as any other.

However, the elven queen intervened, so Irina failed to become a disciple of either of them.

After that, Urien came to Chaos City, and opened a magic potion shop. He hadn't been very keen to find a disciple. He had only butted in because he had found his nemesis Krassu had been eager to make the elven girl his student.

The elven girl was so smart, and her talent really surprised him. He'd soon found himself wishing to take her on as a disciple too.

Irina hadn't known what to do. She'd wanted to be able to smash a dragon's head with a staff, and she'd also liked Urien's ice magic. She'd learned a few spells from them, but before she could make up her mind, she got taken away by the elven queen.

The two magic casters blamed each other and fought several times, but couldn't get the better of one another. Then they never saw each other again—until today.

"The savory one is the best! Fight me if you dare, Krassu!" Urien said, his voice hoarse and cold. He glanced at Amy from the corner of his eye. I'm sure she likes the savory one. Maybe she'll become my disciple after I beat Krassu.

Krassu's face darkened. "No, the sweet one is the best!" He also took a look at Amy. Amy is still a kid. Kids all like sweets. She'll like me more when I defeat Urien. This fight is very critical. He walked towards the door with his staff, saying, "As you wish! Let's settle this once and for all. My magic staff can't wait to beat you again!"

Urien curled his lip. "Heh, isn't that your walking stick? Do you think you can still jump high enough to slap a dragon on the knee?" he sneered, and followed Krassu with his wand.

"Lord Urien, please take me with you!" Black Coal said with fear in his voice.

Ugly Duckling was reaching inside the cage, trying to catch the bird, but its paw was too short.

Black Coal was staying as far away from the cat as possible. The cat might be little, but it had fangs and claws!

Urien paid no mind to his bird, and walked out behind Krassu.

"Father, can we watch?" Amy asked expectantly, looking up at Mag. She had never seen magic casters fight before.

Mag nodded with a smile. "Yes. Come on, Miya. Let's go outside." He took Amy by the hand, and walked towards the door. He didn't have to open until another 30 minutes, and even Mag Alex hadn't had a chance to witness a fight between two 10th-tier magic casters, so he was curious.

"Okay," Yabemiya said, and followed her boss excitedly. She preferred the sweet tofu pudding, so she naturally wanted Krassu to win.

The door opened with a "ding". Customers who were waiting outside had never expected the door to open so early.

When they saw Krassu step out with a grim face, they all parted to make way for him.

Although Krassu always waited outside Mag's restaurant like other customers and was very kind to Amy, people were still in awe of this powerful royal magic caster.

"Why did Lord Krassu come out of the restaurant so early?"

"He looks angry. I bet he got turned down by Mag again. Mag is really unbelievable!"

"You can say that again. If a magic caster wanted my boy, I'd pay him 500 gold coins every year."

The customers were whispering. They envied Mag's cooking skills, and envied him for having a cute girl who even caught a royal magic caster's eye. They envied his success.

Krassu hadn't walked far when the door opened again. They turned to look to the door, surprised. A hunched old man in a black robe walked out slowly, casting a cold glance at them.

For an instant, they felt as if they had fallen into an ice hole. They looked away hurriedly. A dark magic caster! they thought as they suddenly realized.

Dark magic casters chose a path that was neither light nor dark. They could be good and evil at the same time. They could become normal magic casters, but they could also turn into evil ones. People feared them.

Krassu stopped in the Aden Square, 100 meters away from the restaurant. He turned and looked at Urien, the sapphire on top of his staff shining red like a torch!

Urien walked past the customers unhurriedly. When he was five meters away from the restaurant, he stomped, and countless ice flowers appeared under his foot, spreading towards Krassu like vines.

"Appear! Frost Dragon! Bring the whole world to your heel!" Urien's voice was grave, just as if it came from hell. Suddenly, snow started falling from the clear sky. A giant figure spread its wings in the snow.

Chapter 125: Give Me A Hug And Lift Me Up

"Such terrifying ice magic!" someone exclaimed.

They could hardly believe their eyes as snow started falling in the square.

"This black-robed magic caster must be very powerful, or he wouldn't have dared to challenge Lord Krassu to a fight."

"They both came out of the restaurant with angry looks. What happened inside?"

The customers stepped away from the two powerful magic casters. They didn't want to be caught up in their fight.

"Ding!"

The door opened again, and out came Amy, holding Mag's hand. When she saw the snow, she jumped up excitedly. She waved her father's hand, and said, "Father, look! It's snowing! It's snowing!"

Mag gave a nod. Yes. And there is a dragon in the snow. His eyes were fixed on the Frost Dragon that was forming in the sky. It was a silvery-white western dragon 1 covered by white scales, with a 20-meter wingspan. Snowflakes moved aside as they approached it. It flapped its wings slowly, staring with its enormous blue eyes at Krassu, who was standing 100 meters away from it.

Mag Alex had killed many dragons before. His heavy sword had hacked off their heads. A shower of blood pouring down as the dragon roared despairingly was not an uncommon sight to him, so the Frost Dragon didn't scare him, but rather tempted him.

The sight of the dragon brought out the blood lust within him.

Mag clenched his fist. When will I be strong enough to wave my sword again? He had taken to extreme sports in his past boring life, BASE jumping, standing upside down on Trolltunga, and playing on the Giant Canyon Swing. Killing dragons will be a great entertainment in this world, although I'm not very fond of fighting.

"Look! A dragon! A giant Frost Dragon!" someone exclaimed in horror.

"An 8th-tier magic caster isn't able to summon such a strong dragon. This black-robed magic caster has reached the 9th tier. Or 10th," an old man said in amazement. Apparently, he knew some about magic casters.

Yabemiya stood behind Mag, her mouth slightly open as she eyed the dragon. So this is how a dragon looks like. Dragons were not uncommon in Chaos City, but she had spent most of her days in the kitchen, so this was the first time she had seen a dragon. Her mother had only told her once about her father.

It had been a cold night. Her mother had held her in her arms, and said that her father was very gigantic in his golden armor, and that he could turn into a giant dragon 100 meters long and take her wherever she wanted to go.

After that, her mother cried a whole night. Yabemiya hadn't asked her about dragons again since then.

"A big flying lizard! But can lizards fly?" Amy asked Mag.

"It's a dragon. A Frost Dragon," Mag answered, smiling. Amy had never seen a dragon before, but it indeed looked like a giant lizard.

Amy's eyes brightened. "A dragon?" She stood on tips of her toes to try to get a better look, but the customers blocked her view. She turned to Mag and extended her arms. "Father, give me a hug and lift me up. I want to see the dragon," she said, pouting her lips.

Mag felt his heart was melted down by her cuteness. With a cute daughter like this, what more do I need?

"Okay, sweetheart." Mag stooped down, and picked Amy up. Yangzhou fried rice and roujiamo had been improving his strength. He wasn't as strong as a normal man yet, but he was in a better state than when his strength had been a mere 1.5. Lifting Amy up was still difficult for him, though.

The little thing was very soft, and smelled so good. She had used cherry flower scented body wash.

Amy wrapped her arms around Mag's neck and kissed him on the cheek. "You're the best, Father." She turned to look at the Frost Dragon, and then at Krassu. "If this dragon fights for Turtle Grandpa, will Half-beard Grandpa be in danger? Father, should we stop them?"

Mag shook his head with a smile. "Don't worry. They're well matched in power," he said. Krassu could beat a dragon with his staff. He's the strongest melee magic caster. Surely he can handle a dragon summoned by magic, or he wouldn't be Urien's nemesis.

He felt happy to find that Amy was worrying about the two old men's safety even though she had encouraged them to fight. She loved to watch people fight, but she had a gentle heart.

"Mag, what happened? Why is Lord Krassu fighting with that magic caster?" Proll asked.

Other customers turned to look at Mag. They didn't come across something like this every day in Chaos City. Even people from the Gray Temple could do little about this situation.

They came out of the restaurant and started fighting. Just what happened in the restaurant? they wondered.

"Because they have different opinions on which flavor of tofu pudding is the best," explained Amy.

They were lost. Tofu pudding? A new dish? Two powerful magic casters are fighting over the flavors of a dish?

Stout Mobai pushed his door open. A gust of cold wind made him shiver. He raised his eyes and espied the Frost Dragon. "A dragon?!"

Chapter 126: Level 5 Incident!

Mobai clenched his fist as he looked up at the dragon, anger in his eyes. Then, he realized quickly that it was not a real dragon. He lowered his gaze from the sky, and was a little surprised to find Urien standing there.

He had been living here for decades. He was well aware that Urien had moved here over 10 years ago. He had bought middle-grade recovery potions from him, and they knew each other, although they didn't talk much.

However, he had assumed Urien to be a 5th-tier magic caster at best because his potions were cheap, but not very effective.

Plainly, he had underestimated him. He didn't stand a chance against this Frost Dragon. He's at least a 9th-tier magic caster.

He clenched his fist harder. How can I kill that red dragon if I can't even beat a magic one? I have to work harder on my bomb. He turned to look at Mag and Amy, and didn't know why Urien and Krassu were fighting.

Not far from the crowd, Sargeras had been walking towards the restaurant with two lava demons. He stopped suddenly, and looked in the direction of the restaurant.

"What's wrong, Boss?" one of the two demons asked Sargeras. He was tall and lean.

"You haven't forgotten what to do when we reach the restaurant, I hope? Do not make waves," Sargeras said without turning his head.

"Didn't you say it's owned by a human?" the short, fat demon asked. "What's so frightening about humans? They fear us. We can do whatever we want in his restaurant." He laughed, and didn't take Sargeras' words to heart.

Sargeras hit his head lightly with his fist. "Stupid," he said, smiling. "See what that is? The innkeeper's little girl's fireball will burn you to ashes."

The short demon sidestepped, covering his sore head. He looked and saw it. His eyes went wide immediately. He jumped behind Sargeras, terrified. "Is that a dragon? How come it is here?"

"Is the restaurant protected by this dragon?" the tall one asked, alarmed but curious. He moved closer to Sargeras.

"It's clearly not a real dragon. But, the restaurant is protected by a magic caster much more powerful than a dragon, so even I can't save you if you cause any trouble," Sargeras warned, gazing at Krassu with fear from afar.

He had been in awe of the old man even since he'd seen him beat a dragon with his staff outside of Rodu. He had heard about Mag Alex's valiancy, but he had seen Krassu's power with his own eyes.

The other two demons took a look at Krassu. "You mean that white-bearded magic caster?" Then they looked up at the dragon. "I think he'll be eaten by the dragon."

Sargeras curled his upper lip. "I don't think so."

"It's snowing over there! And there is a white dragon in the sky!"

"I see it too. Is it looking for trouble? Isn't that the restaurant that's very busy these days?"

"Yes. They only have two dishes, and the cheaper one is 300 copper coins. These fools are lining up in the early morning, gladly offering money to that innkeeper."

"I hope that dragon tears that restaurant apart. My restaurant's earnings have decreased a lot. I saw some of my regulars lining up at that door yesterday."

"Come on. Let's go and see what's happening. It's the first time I've ever seen a dragon!"

Some people in the Aden Square noticed the snow and the dragon, and started talking. Many restaurateurs talked of Mag in a jealous tone. The dragon had attracted a lot of attention because dragons were a rare sight even in Chaos City. They always turned into humans before entering the city.

On the other side of the square, a middle-aged man in a neat gray outfit screwed up his face as he looked in the direction of Mamy Restaurant. "Two magic casters are fighting!" he said to a young man in the same outfit. "They're both above the 8th-tier! Level 5 incident! Report to the temple! You two, come with me. We'll evacuate the crowd, and try to avoid or minimize casualties!" Then, he ran towards the restaurant.

"Yes!" the young man replied, and ran for a few steps before he spied a wealthy man in fancy clothes on a horse. He pulled him off his horse, tossed him his badge, and swung into the saddle, saying, "On Gray Temple duty, I need your horse. Come to the Gray Temple for your horse later with that badge."

The fancy man was taken aback. Since when do Gray Temple people commandeer horses? He had planned to show off his newly bought horse. He took a look at the badge in his hand, cursed, and walked towards the Gray Temple.

"Tofu pudding is our new dish, but we haven't started selling it yet. Those two magic casters had business with me, so we let them try the new dish. Never thought they would fight over the flavors," Mag explained with a smile, looking at the curious crowd. He wasted no chance to advertise his tofu pudding.

The looks on the people's faces became queer. They are fighting over the flavors of a new dish?!

The flavors of this dish must be very distinctive and tasty, Proll thought. "Mag, are you going to sell the new dish this morning?" he asked, expectant.

The others also looked at Mag, excited. This dish must be really good if it's able to make two powerful magic casters fight over it.

Chapter 127: No, It Will Be

Mag shook his head with a smile. "I'm sorry. The new dish isn't available this morning. But we'll sell it during dinner hours." He hadn't soaked soybeans in the morning.

"I see. I guess I have to come back in the evening," Proll said, disappointed. He was aware of Mag's temper, so he said no more.

Other customers took notice of this information, and planned to come here early in the evening to line up for this secret new dish.

"Father, look! The dragon is moving!" Amy called, excited.

Urien took five steps forward. The snowfall turned into a blizzard. The wind was blowing wildly, and the snow was already thick on the ground.

There was no snowflake whatsoever within a one-meter radius of where Krassu was standing, just as if he was protected by an invisible round barrier.

His staff was shining red, as if on fire. It looked very warm in the blizzard.

The Frost Dragon was completely formed. It spread its wings and flapped them. Three small whirlwinds appeared beneath its wings and grew bigger quickly.

Krassu lifted his eyes to look at the dragon, but wasn't in a hurry to attack it. "You haven't grown in power after all these years, Urien."

"And you have grown, in age," Urien replied. "The authentic tofu pudding is savory. Die, you heretic!" he shouted, bringing his wand down.

The Frost Dragon gave a roar, and ejected three icicles half a meter long. Three became nine, and nine turned into 27. They were all flying at Krassu.

"You savory tofu pudding guy, I'll show you which flavor is authentic!" Krassu thundered as he lifted his staff. A huge fireball appeared, and flew upwards towards the icicles. When they met, the fireball exploded. 27 icicles were shattered into pieces almost simultaneously. Some evaporated, and others fell down on the ground.

Now, the other customers were convinced that they were indeed fighting over the new dish.

Amy's eyes widened. "Wow, Half-beard Grandpa can indeed use fireball magic. His fireball looks very powerful and explodes!" she said, her eyes shining with excitement.

Mag smiled at Amy. "Do you want to learn that?" He would choose whichever master Amy preferred.

Amy nodded eagerly. "Yes!" Then she looked up at the dragon in the sky. "But Turtle Grandpa's dragon is also incredible. If I can summon a dragon, can I straddle its neck and soar into the air?"

It was all Mag could do not to smile. "Do you want to learn that too?" Urien's ice magic was more interesting and beautiful than Krassu's fireball. Small wonder if children would love it.

Amy thought a moment, and nodded. "Yes."

"Well…" Mag said as he gazed at the two magic casters thoughtfully. I didn't expect that to happen.

Krassu didn't stand there and wait for the dragon to strike again. He looked at Urien from afar. "A real dragon can't stop me, let alone a fake one," he sneered. "Let's settle our old scores once and for all!"

White magic runes appeared over Krassu's legs. He rushed towards Urien.

Urien snorted, and waved his wand unhurriedly. Many solid ice walls emerged before Krassu, trying to stop him.

"Crack!"

The first ice wall was broken into pieces by the staff, then the second, and then the third… The cracking almost became one continuous sound as Krassu darted towards Urien. The ice walls were unable to stop him.

There was no magic wave on his staff. It was like a wooden stove poker in his hand. He was using it to whack his way through the ice walls as if he were a powerful knight.

"Who will win?" someone asked curiously.

"The magic caster in a black robe. Just look at that fearsome Frost Dragon. He must be very powerful if he can summon a dragon like that."

"I put my money on Lord Krassu. He is a royal magic caster. He must be really strong!"

The customers started arguing over who would win.

Lord Krassu, please win this fight for sweet tofu pudding people! Yabemiya prayed silently, clenching her fists.

She might feel close to the dragon, but she would never change her beliefs.

Mag raised an eyebrow. A melee magic caster all right. His resume is amazing, but it's more shocking when I see him fight first-hand. With such horrifying speed and power, he's more of a knight than a magic caster right now.

"Whoa!" Amy exclaimed, her mouth open. "Half-beard Grandpa is incredible! I want to learn that, Father!"

Urien overheard what Amy had just said. His face darkened, and he pointed his wand at Krassu. The Frost Dragon flapped its wings and swooped towards Krassu, its mouth wide open.

"That old man will be killed!" someone exclaimed.

Those who were craven had closed their eyes. They dared not to look.

No. It will be the other way around. Krassu's eyes met the dragon's ferocious stare with no hint of fear. He leapt three meters into the air, took hold of his staff with both hands, and brought it down with all his strength.

Chapter 128: Weak

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

The onlookers had been surprised when Krassu had broken those ice walls with his staff. And now, they were astonished to find him in the sky, thinking that he was about to hit the dragon's head with his staff.

Krassu was challenging their whole framework of assumptions about the way magic casters were. Turns out magic casters can be strong at melee combat too! He prefers using his staff to spells. He is literally a melee magic caster!

Gandalf? Mag lifted an eyebrow. Urien's ice magic is superb. Krassu has combined magic with close combat. He derives strength from those magic runes—that's why he can move so fast.

They both have good points. If Amy can study under them both, she might become a unique and versatile magic caster. She'll have no weakness.

But I'm not sure if they'll accept this proposal. It seems they really hate each other, Mag thought, worried. Now, he only needed to work out a way to make Amy become a disciple of both of them.

Amy clapped her hands. "Amazing! Father, I want to learn it all!" she said, excited. "Knocking ice with a staff is interesting, the dragon is interesting, and so is the snowfall! I want to make a snowman by the door every day!"

Mag's eyes brightened. "Well, then you should ask them to teach you. I think they'll say yes," he said. It's better if I have Amy do the talking for me. They won't find her greedy.

Amy nodded meekly. "Okay." Then, after thinking for a moment, she added, "But it's they who are eager to take me on as their disciple, right?"

Mag was taken aback. "I guess so." He was a little surprised to find Amy so smart and scheming.

The other people held their breaths, staring at Krassu with wide eyes. His staff was shimmering red, with mysterious golden-red runes over it. It looked as if it were on fire.

The Frost Dragon dived towards Krassu with a snowstorm. The wind swept the snow aside.

The three whirlwinds surrounded the old man, moving closer, and absorbed and crushed two small trees and a stone.

The wind cut right through the onlookers. They took several steps back in fright. They were risking their lives to witness this fight.

In the dragon's mouth, an ice ball was forming, shining white. Apparently, it was preparing something big.

Is Krassu able to beat this dragon? they wondered.

Obviously, the old man was no match in size to such a big dragon.

"On Gray Temple duty! Make way!" a voice cried loudly behind the onlookers. They moved aside at once.

Barzel arrived with his two colleagues, his chest heaving heavily from the galloping. He frowned as he regarded the dragon and Krassu in the sky.

He was a 5th-tier knight, heading a patrol responsible for the Aden Square. His strength enabled him to deal with almost anything happening in the square.

However, it just so happened that the situation right now was above his pay grade.

This was a fight between two powerful magic casters who were both above the 9th-tier. Even his boss, an 8th-tier knight, could only calm them with quiet words right now, but he himself couldn't do even that. He turned to his men. "Evacuate the crowd! Try to avoid or minimize casualties! Wait for backup!"

"Yes!" they said gravely. They were not new to this job, and they dealt with various situations every day, but seldom with a situation like this one. They hurriedly signaled the spectators to stay away.

More and more people were attracted here by the Frost Dragon and the blizzard. They didn't want to miss such a rare sight.

Before Krassu's staff landed on the dragon's head, it opened its mouth and ejected a white ice ball. Almost instantly, the snowflakes turned into grains of ice and pattered against the ground. The ice ball was terribly cold, and something inside it was straining to come out.

"Break!" Krassu shouted, and brought his staff down on the ball.

The ice ball as large as a human head cracked open, and a small Frost Dragon flew out of it towards Krassu. It tried to dodge the deadly staff.

Only, the staff was faster than it. No sooner had the ball been broken than the staff landed on the small dragon. It was killed instantly.

The coldness in the air was dispelled by the flame on the staff. The snow stopped falling, and the sky was clear again.

The staff didn't stop there, though. The momentum carried it to the dragon's head.

They heard a loud thump.

The staff was like a match before the dragon, hilarious yet powerful. It smashed into its head.

A flame rose from the staff, and enveloped the dragon's head and huge body immediately. The white Frost Dragon turned into a fire dragon, and then exploded, leaving mist in its place.

"You're weak as before," Krassu sneered as he landed on the ground, standing in the fog.

Chapter 129: I Can Use Fireball Magic Too!

"Unbelievable!"

The throng roared after falling silent for a while. They found it hard to believe that such a small human could smash a Frost Dragon.

"Wow! Half-beard Grandpa is amazing!" Amy exclaimed as she clapped her little hands, wide-eyed. She gazed at his staff, blue eyes glinting with excitement. His staff is so powerful! If I can have it…

Mag was also taken aback. He is already over 120. Of course he didn't break the dragon with his own strength. His perfect use and control of his magic is astounding.

"Such a fearsome old man!" Sargeras' two companions said, terrified. They had never thought the old man would beat the dragon, which had scared the heck out of them, with only one swing of his staff. The old man's power shocked them. They had considered "mankind" a byword for weakness before, but now they found them powerful and gruesome.

Sargeras remained calm since he had seen the old man beat a real dragon with his staff before. "But, his beard got burnt by the innkeeper's daughter," he said.

"That's unimaginable!" the tall and lean demon said in a stunned voice. He hesitated a moment, and tugged at Sargeras' clothes. "How about we go to another restaurant? We don't really have to eat here."

The short and fat demon nodded in agreement. "Yes, Boss. We haven't seen you for decades. We've come here as soon as we received your message. More brothers are still on the road. Mond and I have planned to have a drink with you, but I don't think that restaurant will do."

Sargeras shook his head. "They don't serve drinks here. Besides, I didn't take you here to have a drink with you. I want you to try some roujiamo. You'll know why I want you here when you try it." Sargeras left them in suspense.

The two demons exchanged a look. They knew Sargeras wouldn't change his mind, so they said no more.

Sargeras was the strongest warrior among lava demons. He had led his people to fight against other demons many times.

50 years ago, he had left the Demon Islands to seek a way to get to another level and restore the glory of the lava demons. No one had heard from him since.

… Until several days ago. A flamingo came to his tribe, bearing a letter saying that he had found the way, and that he wanted his friends to come to Chaos City.

Lava demons had been having a tough time all these years. Many were wandering the continent, so only two had come here, and many were still on the road, maybe.

The name Sargeras had become a byword for hope among lava demons. They had thought he was dead since they hadn't heard from him for so many years, so when their chief received the letter, he thought it was a trap set by other demons.

When the two demons found Sargeras in Chaos City, they felt very excited, even though they hadn't seen their leader for 50 years. Lava demons no long have to be oppressed by other tribes! they thought.

"You're slower than before. You're growing old." Urien sighed, looking at Krassu with his deep eyes.

"My days are numbered. If you want to make Amy your disciple, you'll have to kill me first," Krassu said, tightening his fingers around the staff. Flames rose from his staff and spread over his whole body. He looked very conspicuous in the snow.

Urien frowned, and fell silent for a while. "Few people who went through that war are still breathing. We have outlived them all. Who would have thought?" he said hoarsely.

"Death awaits us all, and we've been living long enough," Krassu said more gently this time, staring at Urien, who was as old as him and as hunchbacked as if carrying a turtle shell on his back. Indeed. Few people who went through that war are still living.

Urien inclined his head. "Yes. So, why don't you just die? I don't mind living a little longer than you." He gave a cold grin, and waved his wand. Icicles appeared from the ground around Krassu, and they were growing exceedingly fast towards the old man.

The crowd's hearts leapt up into their mouths. It's not easy for the old man to dodge this sneak attack!

Krassu smiled. "I will, but not before I see your dead body." He lifted his staff up, and brought it down hard. Then, the flames rushed outwards, and formed a fire wall around the old man. The icicles broke and evaporated when they met fire. Krassu diffused the attack with ease.

Krassu flew at Urien suddenly, shattering every icicle that appeared in his way. Nothing could stop him.

An instant later, Krassu was right before Urien. He swung his staff at his head without hesitation. With a crack, Urien shattered into a hundred pieces of ice!

"Krassu, I'm here…" said Urien, appearing behind him. Krassu turned around, and found numerous Uriens there. They were identical and all smiling that cold smile of his, staring at Krassu.

"So many Turtle Grandpas! Which one is real?" Amy said as she looked around curiously, trying to find the real Urien. But, they were all exactly the same.

Krassu frowned as he looked at so many Uriens. "Urien, you really know how to hide, just as before. Are you a magic caster or a coward?"

"It's you who have led many magic casters astray," Urien replied angrily. "They wanted to become a melee magic caster like you, but they ended up getting beaten by knights. A magic caster is supposed to be able to toy with his foes. Only stupid knights like fighting up close." He raised his hand, prepared to attack again.

"Stop fighting! You'll break our restaurant! I can use fireball magic too. Don't make me toast you!" Amy said, exasperated.

Chapter 130: Can I Study Under You Both?

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

The wind was howling, blowing snow into everyone's faces and onto the window of Mamy Restaurant as if trying to break it. It was so bitter that it forced the crowd to back away and seek shelter.

Amy narrowed her eyes slightly in anger. Then, some snowflakes fell onto her face. She hesitated for a moment, and licked one in the corner of her lips. Her eyes lit up immediately. "It's cold and tasty!" she said.

Suddenly, the wind fell off, and the flames on Krassu diminished. They heard her.

Basically, the fight was over Amy. Tofu pudding was only a catalyst. The two old men were well aware that they had to get on Amy's good side in order to make her their disciple.

They were evenly matched, so they had to go all out. As such, neither could guarantee their magic wouldn't affect the people around them. The last thing Krassu needed was a fireball exploding near the restaurant.

They looked at each other, hesitant. For a while, neither moved.

The Aden Square was busy even in the morning. Now, hundreds of onlookers were watching. They were edging forward inch by inch to get a better view of the fight, unaware of danger.

The two old men had to be careful, or many would die.

Killing people was a serious crime in Chaos City. They might be too powerful to be caught, but it would be out of the question for them to stay here to teach Amy.

Besides, Amy was already angry as it was. Their chances of becoming her master were dwindling.

Krassu hesitated a while before pulling back his staff. He turned to Amy, and asked, "Sweet tofu pudding is the best, right, Amy?"

"No! The savory one is the best!" Urien protested in a hoarse voice as many of his magic copies broke with loud cracks.

The crowd moved aside quickly, and looked to Amy, wondering why the two powerful magic casters stopped immediately because of a little girl. They had expected to witness an epic fight.

"They're both very good. The savory one goes great with roujiamo, and the sweet one tastes better when eating it as dessert. Why do you have to choose one flavor over the other?" Amy said as she looked at the two old men. She did not understand it.

"You like them both?!" Krassu and Urien said. They had found words to retort each other, but now, they were caught in their throats. They looked at Amy, at a loss for words.

They're fighting with each other over a dish?! the crowd thought, surprised. Then, they saw Mamy Restaurant. Their faces lit up. Such a remarkable restaurant! It may be the prettiest restaurant in the whole square. When did it open?

What's so special about this dish that two powerful magic casters are fighting over it? Their fight was too real to be a mere advertisement. Besides, they can't afford to hire them to advertise their restaurant.

They found, more to their amazement, that the half-elf girl was no ordinary girl, since the two angry old men stopped fighting because of her.

Barzel froze for an instant. It's … over? It happened so fast that he stood there with his two men, stunned. He had thought the situation might escalate, and that buildings nearby might be destroyed.

Amy looked at the two magic casters, and nodded. "Yes. Both the savory one and the sweet one are tasty. I love Father's cooking." Then she clenched her little fists. "Take your fight away from our restaurant! Or I'll get angry and set you on fire! Half-beard Grandpa, I don't want to have to call you beardless grandpa."

Krassu covered his beard subconsciously. He had been growing it for over 30 years, but Amy had burnt part of it the other day. Now, she was threatening to burn the rest of his precious beard, so of course he was a little nervous. But, he had to smile at Amy. "Did you see how I smashed that Frost Dragon, Amy? It's a completely new way of using magic. You will be stronger and faster than knights and even fly if you study under me."

Urine gave a snort. "You can't fly yourself." Then he turned to Amy, and said, "Little girl, if you study under me, you'll be able to summon a Frost Dragon too. You can also make it snow whenever you want, and create a lot of magic clones of yourself. Isn't that interesting?"

The crowd's eyes went wide. They were lost—they hadn't thought the two powerful magic casters would be so amiable and start selling themselves.

It's too hard a choice to make, they thought. The fight was relatively short, but they had witnessed their extraordinary power. They're just like two very different dishes, both extremely delicious.

"Can I study under you both?" Amy asked as she blinked at them, expectant

Chapter 131: This Restaurateur Is Anything But Ordinary

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Many people might have asked the same question if they had dared.

One was a royal magic caster, and the other was a shadowy dark magic caster. They were both very powerful, and clearly regarded each other as enemies. But, Amy didn't seem to care.

Krassu and Urien were taken aback, but strangely, they didn't reject her right away. They exchanged a long look.

20 years ago, the elven girl had said the same thing. After that, they had fought for almost a year, but neither had given up. Then, she had got taken away before one could get the better of the other.

It was one of their most bitter regrets, though they didn't say it. They had had to watch helplessly as they took her away.

"It's a good idea, isn't it? I'll be able to fly and summon a dragon. I'll be very powerful!" she said happily, clapping her hands.

"You don't need a dragon. You'll be able to kill dragons with your staff, or a fireball if you prefer," Krassu pointed out.

"Girls have no business flying in the sky with a staff. You can perform my magic in a dress," Urien said gently. "They won't be able to touch you. You will be graceful like every other girl."

A slow smile crept across Mag's face. The looks on the two old men's faces suggested they were considering Amy's request. I was right to have Amy bring this up. They like her. Besides, it would be great if Amy could reconcile them. After all, they probably don't have many old friends left, considering their age.

Amy shook her head. "But I want to study under you both. Please…" she said, looking at them with her big watery eyes.

The two old men weakened suddenly. They thought they saw the elven girl who liked making sport of everyone with deft cruelty, and who could make everyone succumb to her cuteness.

Amy was much younger, but just as sharp-tongued and cute. They looked at her, and couldn't help but nod.

Amy's eyes lit up immediately. "Really, Turtle Grandpa, Half-beard Grandpa? I'm your disciple now?" She threw her arms around Mag's neck, and kissed him on the cheek. "Father, I have two masters now! They'll teach me magic!"

"I…" Krassu said after he realized what he had done.

"Master Half-beard!" Amy said to Krassu.

Krassu froze for an instant. He took a look at Amy's smile, and bit back his words. He managed a smile, and gave a nod.

Urien lifted an eyebrow. "But…"

"Master Turtle!" Amy said as she turned to face Urien. She thought for a moment, and added with a smile, "Can I play with Green Pea and Black Coal from now on?"

Urien agonized for a while before he nodded. "Yes," he said at last in a hoarse voice.

Amy clapped her hands, eyes shining with excitement and expectation. I'll be able to make it snow and summon a dragon, as well as fly in the sky!

The crowd never made a sound. Apparently, no one had expected this sudden turn of events. They have taken a half-elf on as a disciple? It seems she is the owner's daughter.

Krassu turned to Mag, and asked, "Mag, what do you say?" He had to ask for Mag's permission first.

"I respect Amy's choice. You're both undoubtedly very powerful. I'll let Amy become your disciple on one condition—that you deliver on your promises," Mag said solemnly as he looked at the two old men.

Devious bastard! Urien and Krassu thought. Talk about a businessman!" Technically, they had no obligation to deliver on their promises now.

But the look on Mag's face suggested they had no choice. A talented and lovely daughter came with many benefits.

"I hate my disciple to have another master, but I respect her choice. I don't see why she had to choose him, though," said Urien. "Starting tomorrow, she'll study under you for three days, and then study under me for three days. Then rest one day. I'll keep all the promises I've made earlier." He lifted his hand, and the rest of his magic copies shattered immediately. The real Urien looked at Krassu, and said coldly, "And the savory tofu pudding is the best."

"Do you think I like to share a student with you? You should consider yourself lucky that Amy wants to learn your showy magic," Krassu said. "I'll take you up on your offer. And I'll deliver on my promises." The flame on his staff vanished. He pointed his staff at Urien. "The sweet one is the best. Fight me if you dare."

Smiling, Mag put Amy down on the ground. He took a look at the time and nodded at the two magic casters. "Well, it's settled, then. Amy will study under you from tomorrow. We're open now. You can have your breakfast here if you like."

"I'll have two plates of Yangzhou fried rice and a roujiamo," Krassu said, making for the restaurant.

"A plate of Yangzhou fried rice and a roujiamo," Urien said after he thought a moment, looking at Krassu's back. Then he walked towards the restaurant too.

"Leader, what do we do now?" a man whispered to Barzel. The square hadn't been badly damaged, and there were no casualties or injuries—only two small trees had been destroyed. The square had sustained much more severe damage from the fight between two orcs the other day.

"Report this to the top brass. Don't ask them any questions. If I'm right, that white-robed magic caster is a big shot," Barzel said. He took a long look at Mag. This restaurateur is anything but ordinary.

Chapter 132: Money Can Buy Anything

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Mag took a glance at Barzel, and quickly turned to smile at the crowd. "I'm sorry if their fight frightened you. We're open now. Please come in."

It was natural for the people from the Gray Temple to come here considering what had just happened. They were the law enforcement officials here. It was impossible not to catch their eye now that he owned a restaurant.

Mag didn't want too much attention from them, though. They might find out what he'd rather to stay hidden, like his relationship with Mag Alex.

However, no one would have believed that this great cook had slain dragons with a heavy sword.

Proll gave Mag a thumbs-up. "Impressive!" he said. The fight frightened me, but clearly not Mag. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been so calm and stood his ground.

Mag sighed silently. I have no choice. I need money to buy strength. The cost of Amy's meals is not a small amount of money.

Money was really important.

Money could buy anything, at least from the system.

"System, each 0.5 strength is 10,000 gold coins, right?" Mag asked suddenly.

"The price of the next 0.5 strength will be announced after you have bought the first one," the system answered.

It seemed the system wanted to raise the price. Mag narrowed his eyes slightly. "You're not going to rip me off, are you?"

"Focus on you mission. If you upgrade the restaurant, you'll have a better chance at getting missions involving increasing your strength." It didn't answer his question.

"Yeah, right." The system was doing everything to try to make him upgrade the restaurant. But he needed 50,000 gold coins.

Yesterday's profit was the highest. He had sold 500 roujiamos and 100 plates of Yangzhou fried rice, and earned 1,400 gold coins. He needed more than a month to earn that 50,000.

Luckily, I can spend that money on anything but ingredients. I think I can use it to buy strength.

He had got 410 customers as of now. He had sold a lot more roujiamos yesterday. Many new customers came as the restaurant's popularity mounted.

"Such a fancy restaurant!" a neatly-dressed young man murmured to himself. "So many people are lining up here, and two powerful magic casters have fought over a dish. I suppose it's worth a try." He made his way towards the restaurant.

"Never thought I'd find a restaurant here," a middle-aged woman in fancy clothes said as she studied the restaurant, and walked in.

Many onlookers followed the two magic casters in, wondering what this come-out-of-nowhere restaurant had on offer.

"That really pisses me off! He stole my customers again! Two even left with my bowls, without paying their check! Unbelievable!" the owner of a lamian restaurant said angrily, looking toward Mamy Restaurant with hands on her hips.

Who is this guy? It's an ingenious way to draw customers, but it would be very expensive to hire two powerful magic casters, a fat man thought, standing outside his baozi 1 restaurant. He had only sold three baozi today.

A short while later, a gray-haired old man arrived on a horse. He took a look at the snow, and swung off his horse. "Barzel, tell me what happened."

"Lord Brandli!" Barzel walked quickly over to the horse, and grabbed the reins. Brandli was a respected 7th-tier magic caster of the Gray Temple. "The fight is over. The square has been damaged a little. No casualties or injuries. The two have reached an agreement, and walked into that restaurant," Barzel said in a low voice.

"So soon?" Brandli was taken by surprise. He had been shocked when he got the news, and come here as fast as he could on the messenger's horse, afraid Barzel couldn't handle this level 5 incident.

The magic remnants left on the square startled the old man. The deep snow, splinters of broken ice, dented ground, and the mess from tornadoes spoke volumes about the power of the two magic casters. All of this happened in such a short time. They're much more powerful than me.

"Who were they?" Brandli asked, frightened.

"Two very old men. One carries a staff, and wears a white robe with short beard. Strangely, though, he never launched any long-range attacks with magic, but smashed a Frost Dragon with his staff. The other one wears a black robe and uses ice magic. He summoned a Frost Dragon…" Barzel gave him a quick account of what had just happened.

"The one in a white robe is Lord Krassu. I heard that he has arrived in Chaos City. So it was he who got into a fight with someone here." Brandli frowned. "Lord Krassu is among the top three most powerful magic casters in the Magus Tower. And that black-robed magic caster is on a par with him?! Black robe, ice magic, and hunchbacked…"

Brandli's eyes went wide suddenly. Could he be… He took a look in the direction of the restaurant nervously.

Barzel gazed at Brandli, confused. "Is there something wrong?"

Brandli shook his head. "No. This incident is over since no one was injured or killed. Call off the reinforcements. Leave the mess be, and don't come near this place today."

Barzel didn't understand, but he asked no questions, since he could see from the old man's face that their hands were tied. "Yes," he said. He passed the orders to his two subordinates.

He is probably Urien, the Lord of Ice. Never thought the two legendary magic casters would meet again. Ice and fire. Who will win this time? Brandli thought, suddenly excited.

Chapter 133: I'd Never Mess With Her

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Brandli was now admired by many young magic casters, but back in the day, nothing had excited magic casters more than the fights between Krassu and Urien.

A ranged magic caster and a melee one. Magic casters had been divided into two different branches because of them. The fights between them had been eye-catching events.

Unfortunately, Urien suddenly disappeared 20 years ago, which was a shame for many people because they couldn't watch their fantastic fights anymore.

Today, however, Brandli was almost certain that ice and fire had met again, based on Barzel's account. He was surprised to find them here, in Chaos City, and that their fight had lasted such a short time.

And they went into the same restaurant after the fight?

Brandli paused for a moment, and turned to Barzel. "How did it start?"

"I think they were fighting over a dish called tofu pudding, judging from their talk," Barzel replied with a strange look on his face. "And they took the restaurateur's daughter on as their disciple."

"Impossible!" the old man exclaimed. Perhaps too loudly, from the look his subordinate gave him. He shook his head and lowered his voice. "The Lord of Ice would never share a disciple with the Lord of Fire." Barzel saw surprise in his eyes.

"But I saw it with my own eyes, if they are what you say they are," Barzel said, wondering why the usually calm Brandli had suddenly lost his cool.

The old man calmed himself down quickly. "Go. Even the Lord of Gray Temple will have to treat those two as equals if I'm right. This incident is above our pay grade. Fix the square tomorrow. Say nothing of what we've discussed today."

Barzel nodded. "Yes." Then he left with his men.

Brandli looked at the restaurant, and hesitated for a moment. Then, he straightened his robe and walked towards the door, nervous and expectant like a girl before meeting her idol.

The door opened with a "ding", revealing to him that the room was almost full.

He looked around, and fixed his eyes on the two tables near the counter.

Each table was occupied by an old man: one wore a white robe and had a short white beard, and the other was hunchbacked and clad in a black robe. No one shared their tables.

It must be them. Brandli stopped and watched their backs, moisture glittering faintly in the corners of his eyes.

They represent an era of magic. Never thought I'd see them eating together, although not at the same table. No one would believe this.

Then he spied Amy. The half-elf girl. He took a seat, and ordered something random from the menu.

Sargeras walked in with Kiel and Mond. "Good morning, Miya," he said, smiling.

Yabemiya smiled back and nodded. "Good morning. Roujiamo?"

She knew Sargeras by now. His bald head and lava cracks were frightening, but she found him pretty nice. He was always smiling, and only ate roujiamo.

Sargeras nodded with a smile. "Yes. Five for me and three for each of them."

The young waitress nodded. "Okay. Please wait a moment." Then she turned to walk to the kitchen.

The restaurant was almost full, and only the table by the door was unoccupied—Sargeras' favorite table.

"I like her smile," Kiel said with a grin. It was the first time he had seen such an innocent smile.

Mond nodded his agreement. "And she is very pretty. She's much better-looking than the broads in our tribe." He grabbed a chair, and was about to sit down. "They have chairs here. Why do you bring your own?" he asked curiously, looking at the chair in Sargeras' hand.

"You'll see why in a minute," Sargeras said with an enigmatic smile. "Stand up when you eat. You don't want to break anything here," he warned seriously.

"Yes." Kiel and Mond didn't understand, but they didn't need to. They only needed to obey what Sargeras had told them, like they had done many years ago.

Some customers nearby edged away from them nervously as they watched the three demons take their seats. Many regulars had seen Sargeras too often to be unnerved. They knew that the demon came here at least twice a day and always sat at the same table, and they were well aware of his remarkable flames.

He hadn't got into a fight with anybody, at least not in this restaurant.

"Keep your voice down in the restaurant, Big Bald Head," a childish voice called out from the counter. The restaurant fell silent suddenly. Many turned to look at Sargeras, including Krassu and Urien.

Kiel's face darkened, and he was about to spring to his feet. "Who the—"

"Don't!" Sargeras covered his stupid mouth swiftly. He smiled at Amy, and said, "I will."

Amy was holding Ugly Duckling in her arms. When she saw the other two demons, her eyes lit up. "Bald Head No. 2 and No. 3!"

Sargeras inclined his head. "Nice nicknames."

Amy nodded happily. "I know, right?" The three bald heads were just like three light bulbs.

Sargeras took his hand away. "Do you think you skull is thicker than that dragon's?"

Kiel's eyes went wide, and he swallowed in terror. He stole a glance at Amy, who was playing with a cat and a bird. "Boss, is that the owner's daughter you talked about?" he whispered.

Sargeras nodded. "Yes. And she should be that magic caster's disciple now." Even he had to address her politely.

Mond swallowed. "I'd never mess with her. That's suicide."

Mag heard Sargeras' voice, and was surprised to find three demons there when he turned to look. Looks like he has brought his friends here with him. It was only a matter of time before he formed his Burning Legion now.

Chapter 134: The Taste Of Meat

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Urien furrowed his brow in thought, staring at the fried rice before him.

He couldn't remember how many years he had stayed away from meat. Maybe 30 years, maybe 50, or maybe it was after he had caught a band of ogres devouring villagers—he was only 20 at that time.

He had killed those hideous monsters. After several years, he went to the Demon Islands, and almost slaughtered the whole ogre tribe.

He still remembered that scene even after nearly 100 years. Normally, the sight of meat was enough to turn his stomach.

Oddly, though, he didn't find the grain-sized ham in the rice disagreeable. On the contrary, the pleasant smell of eggs and other ingredients really whetted his appetite.

He usually ate boiled vegetables every day, and occasionally an egg. He felt repulsed by grease. Now, however, he found himself attracted by this greasy dish cooked with many ingredients.

He had only followed Krassu in to bond with Amy.

Should I try it? Urien wondered, hesitant.

"Waitress, I'd like a second plate of Yangzhou fried rice, please! It's amazing!" a young man said, putting down his spoon on the empty plate and smiling contentedly.

"Sure. Please wait a sec," Yabemiya replied with a smile, and walked into the kitchen.

Urien turned to glance at that young man. His plate was glistening as if it had been licked clean.

"Master Turtle, do you not like rainbow fried rice?" Amy asked as she looked at Urien.

"He can't eat meat. He hasn't tasted meat for almost 100 years, I think," Krassu said, looking at Urien with pity in his eyes. He knew what he had been through. He was on the Demon Islands too when Urien massacred the ogres, and most of those that had escaped were killed by him.

He didn't hate demons, but he decided that those who preyed on humans didn't deserve to live in this world, because they wouldn't have stopped in war or peace.

The fight between ice and fire had attracted a lot of attention. People had known them to be enemies to each other, but few were aware that they had wiped out the ogre tribe together. That case was never solved.

"That's a shame," Amy said, casting a sympathetic look at Urien.

Urien could feel their eyes on him. "Who told you I can't eat meat?!" he snapped, spooned some rice, and brought it before his mouth. He stopped.

The tantalizing aroma tickled his nose. The tofu pudding had stimulated his appetite. He took a glance at Amy's expectant face, gritted his teeth, and ate it.

His eyes widened immediately. How can meat taste so good?! The eggs melted in his mouth almost instantly; the ham which had been cured for years released savory juice as he bit into it. He had lost memory of the taste of meat. His taste buds were cheering and dancing now, just as if they had been revived.

The ham cubes were small and not many, but their flavorful taste really astounded him. Something inside him was awakening.

He had liked anything with meat in it before he met those ogres.

Besides ham, he also tasted shrimp, mushrooms, winter bamboo shoots, and green onions. The flavors of all the ingredients blended perfectly together, bringing enjoyment to his taste buds.

The mild taste of the Spring of Life didn't escape him. Most people might mistake it for some kind of seasoning, but he had tasted it before. He was surprised that Mag could get his hands on the water from the Spring of Life, and that he added it into the dish like it was nothing.

Urien gave a wordless cry of joy after he swallowed. He was now totally absorbed in eating the fried rice in front of him. He spooned another spoonful into his mouth, and then another, and another…

Amy smiled. "It seems Turtle Grandpa really likes it."

"Because Mag's cooking is fantastic," Krassu said with surprise in his eyes. He hadn't expected Urien to eat it. And he quite enjoys it by the look of him.

Then, he realized he had only eaten half a bowl of rice for every meal in Rodu, but now he ordered two plates of Yangzhou fried rice every time he came here.

"Ding!"

The spoon clattered on the plate. Urien realized he had finished it already.

He had eaten a dish with meat in it.

He didn't feel repelled by it; instead, he wanted more.

This feeling had been lost for he didn't know how many years. His heart started racing. He saw the roujiamo on his table.

It was also a new dish to him: a loaf of white bread stuffed with meat. He had found it too greasy when he first laid his eyes on it.

However, after a plate of Yangzhou fried rice, he suddenly craved meat. The ham in the fried rice could no longer satisfy him. He needed more meat.

He picked the roujiamo up. Will this meat taste different? he wondered, hesitant. The strong aroma of stewed meat smelled different than the ham, but they were equally inviting. He couldn't help but take a bite.

Some gravy had seeped into the soft, sweet bread, making it slightly savory. The meat was so soft that it melted in his mouth. It was streaky pork, but it tasted agreeably greasy. The delicious gravy made his taste buds go wild. At last, the food turned into a violent current rushing around his body.

"Ah…" Urien let out a satisfied cry in delight. He looked at the roujiamo in his hand, his eyes shining, his blood pumping, and his heart pounding.

He felt alive again! When he was young, he had always worn a white robe and considered himself a hero who fought for justice.

Chapter 135: How About We Kidnap The Cook?

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

Urien was surprised when he brought the bag to his mouth and found it already empty. He breathed a deep sigh of relief.

It was great to be young.

Unfortunately, he was not young anymore.

A smile appeared on this old man's wrinkled face. His hunched back seemed to be less hunched, and he felt warm all over as if he was basking in the sun.

People only knew him to be the Lord of Ice. They had no idea that his legs had been hurting after he was 30, and that he had been bent after 40 because of lack of precautions when he started learning ice magic at a very young age. His body hurt every once in a while, and a lot too.

This roujiamo was doing his body some good, though not much. He wished it had been hotter.

He tasted frenzy fog in it. He had been to that Frenzy Isle before. It has a similar effect as the frenzy fog. No, better. It doesn't damage the brain, and brings out the most hidden savagery inside the body.

It has small effect on humans, and even smaller effect on elves, I think. But it will excite the likes of orcs and demons, and even make them evolve.

People may become addicted to this food.

Suddenly, the room was lit by flames near the door, and there was shouting and crying.

Urien looked over his shoulder. The three lava demons went up in flames, red lava flowing in their cracks. Their flames lit up the restaurant and raised the temperature. They sure looked frightening.

Urien turned to look at Mag and Amy, who was staring at the three demons with surprise. Mag is truly a genius. It's hard to believe that such a genius lived four years so miserably. He was honing his skills, or hiding? An interesting man. Then he shook his head with a smile. I don't care how enigmatic he is, as long as he's Amy's father and a good cook.

The customers by the door moved away from the three demons. They felt lost. What the hell happened? Why have they gone into combat position all of a sudden? They don't like the food here?

There were many kinds of demons on this continent, and most were very combative. Half of the disputes and fights in Chaos City had demons involved in one way or another, so of course many new customers were terrified.

Some customers stopped when they saw flames from outside of the door. They even backed off a few steps.

Many regulars had seen Sargeras and his flames so often it didn't even affect them anymore.

Sargeras was sitting calmly in his iron chair, eating his roujiamo and feeling his blood rushing against that barrier. Every cell of his was cheering, intoxicating and obsessing him.

He smiled when he raised his eyes to take a look at Kiel and Mond, who were standing stiffly beside him. He had been right. Roujiamo was effective on all lava demons.

Their inability to break through their barriers was an important reason why lava demons had been weakening in the last thousand years. It was extra difficult to break through even one barrier for those whose blood was not pure enough.

Sargeras had broken through three barriers, and was both a genius and the strongest lava demon in existence. Both Kiel and Mond had only broken through one barrier, but they were already the new backbone of lava demon fighters.

"I'm… burning…" Kiel said, startled. His fat was shaking, his blood running like a runaway horse.

He was a little nervous since he had never felt this way before.

The good part was, he could clearly feel the barrier which had been dormant for decades shake! The barrier was like a tiny boat in the violent sea of blood, heaving helplessly.

This was all attributed to a bite of roujiamo!

Kiel raised his hand. The bag was already starting to burn. He hurriedly removed the bag, and stuffed the rest of the roujiamo into his mouth.

"It's really good!" Kiel said. "Good" was the only word he could think of to describe the food right now. He felt he had not one regret in his life after this roujiamo.

"Boss, I knew you wouldn't let us down!" Mond said, excited. He shoved the roujiamo into his mouth, chewing happily.

For a thousand years, lava demons had been wandering around the whole continent, seeking a way to break through their barriers.

So when Sargeras told them in his letter that he had found a way, the whole tribe, with only the old, the weak, the young, and few fighters left, got stirred up. Kiel and Mond made for Chaos City on the very night they received the message. They traveled day and night, wondering what this magical way was, only to find when they arrived that it was a dish called roujiamo.

It was indeed a magical way.

They could break through their barriers by eating roujiamo. They could never find a better way than that.

This dish was a godsend for them. They had finally found the way in this restaurant, after a thousand years of searching.

"Roar!" Kiel shouted as he tilted his head back. A golden-red flame half a meter high came out of his mouth, and disappeared suddenly. The red flames over his body turned a little golden. He looked different.

"You have got to another level, Kiel!" Mond said, surprised and envious. Kiel had broken through the first barrier earlier than Mond, and now he was ahead of him again.

"Yes! I did it!" Kiel looked at the golden-red flames over his hands, and wanted to cast a pyroblast.

Sargeras rose quickly to his feet, and patted Kiel on the head. "Stop that, you fool! We wouldn't be able to eat here again, and you might get us all killed."

Kiel swiftly withdrew his hands in fright. "Sorry!" Then he took a glance at the kitchen, and leaned close to Sargeras. "Boss, how about we kidnap the cook?" he whispered in his ear.
