(Y/N) is happy being married to a hero, even if he's rank twelve. Though she doesn't like how stressed he's been. Between the school year ending at UA high, working at his agency, and the increase in villain activity, (Y/N) hopes to get Kugo to take a break for the summer. Understanding he can't fully take a break from being a hero.
(Y/N) brings the subject up at dinner.
"Now that the school year is over," she hesitates, "maybe you can take a break?"
"I can't just stop being a hero!"
"I know that, asshole! I mean, now that school is out, you can take a little vacation unless you are needed for hero work."
The two of them go back and forth for ten minutes before Kugo agrees to take some time off. (Y/N) knows not to bring up a vacation or beach day.
Kugo tries to enjoy the time off, but he's used to working. He has written exams to grade, but (Y/N) already told him he can grade them in a few weeks since report cards take forever to be completed.
A call from All Might puts a smile on his face, though he knows why All Might is calling.
All Might succeeds at convincing Kugo to help with a case involving several villains,
It's not refusing to take a break since it's hero work. Kugo tells himself as he goes to the bedroom to tell (Y/N).
(Y/N) was hoping to get Kugo to take over two weeks off, but Kugo promises to take her on a vacation when they finish.
He spends time with her and will go to the agency tomorrow morning.
Kugo finishes the case within a week with the arrest of four civilians. Kugo enjoyed the work and sneaks out to grade the exams and post grades. Even though it's the end of the school year work, Kugo feels like (Y/N) is still enraged. Kugo hates he has to go behind his wife's back, but it's just for a week.
He successfully sneaks out of the house.
Of course, this is one of the hottest weeks of the summer. Kugo quickly thinks of a lie in case (Y/N) questions his missing water bottle. He stays at the agency for two hours before going home to aid the lie that he was at the gym at the agency, and the fact he walks in the house sweating helps the lie.
Unfortunately, Kugo slept in this morning; on the hottest day of the week. Add (Y/N) caught him running out of the house with his bag she knows contains UA high work. Considering Kugo has been out for only two hours a day, (Y/N) assumes it's an important meeting, but not every teacher needs to be there.
By two in the afternoon, Kugo feels the effects of the heat and not drinking enough water.
"Are you ok?" All Might asks.
"I'm fine!" Kugo snaps and goes into his office, slamming the door behind him.
Now All Might worries Kugo and (Y/N) are fighting, and it's affecting Kugo.
"No, he's been going to the gym," (Y/N) explains over the phone.
Now All Might fears he's about to cause Kugo and (Y/N) to fight.
"Um... well (Y/N), Kugo has been helping with a case and—."
"WHAT?!"
Get to the point before she hangs up. All Might tells himself.
"He seems to neglect himself and overheating."
"I'LL BE RIGHT THERE!"
(Y/N) ends the call, and All Might already regrets calling her.
Kugo struggles to think to grade the exams. The headache is becoming unbearable, but today is the last day he will sneak out, and he must finish grading the exams.
(Y/N) barging in doesn't help the headache.
You fucking told her, didn't you, All Might? He thinks, not liking how pissed (Y/N) is.
"HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WORKING?!"
"Two weeks; I was working on a case, and once we finished with that; I had to grade these —."
"SO YOU DECIDED SNEAKING OUT SBD LYING WAS THE BEST IDEA!"
"I'm almost done, then we can take a vacation."
(Y/N) looks at the five remaining tests and Kugo before pouring water on the tests and him.
"FUCK YOU!"
she storms out of the room and slams the door shut.
All Might rushes into the office as Kugo leans on the desk, but his legs can barely hold him up. Kugo is too out of it to be embarrassed All Might is carrying him to the medbay of the agency.
Dehydration and anxiety, even I know it's a bad combination. All Might worries as he rushes to the medbay before Kugo has an anxiety attack. What have I done?
Kugo is too weak to fight off Recovery Girl, but he insists on going after (Y/N).
"Unfortunately, my power won't help him," Recovery Girl explains, "only rest and fluids will help him."
Between dehydration and heat exhaustion, the two heroes watch Kugo pass out.
"I've already screwed things up, but (Y/N) needs to know," All Might says and rushes to his office.
"Like I care, he can die for all I care," (Y/N) rages
"I know you—."
"Oh yes, I mean it, goodbye!"
Shit, I think I just caused a divorce. All Might frets.
Because of Kugo's condition, Recovery Girl forced him to stay in medbay for a few days.
"Just be happy I'm not insisting you be transferred to the hospital," Recovery Girl argues.
Kugo tries to call his wife, but she refuses to answer the phone. All Might has stopped by the house, but (Y/N) is never home when he stops by.
Things get worse for Kugo once he's recovered. Sure, being needed in the field is good, but not when your wife is furious at you, yet you don't come to beg forgiveness. Kugo is busy for a while. The chaos ends in time for the meetings around the next school year. Kugo forgot (Y/N) took a job at the school until he sees her before the meeting. (Y/N) ignores Kugo through the entire meeting. She tries to leave, but Kugo stops her.
"(Y/N), we need to talk. I'm sorry I —."
Kugo didn't think (Y/N) would slap him. Neither is aware All Might is watching.
"You don't get it, do you?! This isn't the first time you've kept things from me. Is it my fault because I'm not a hero?!"
Her question hurt Kugo.
"We're through, Kugo. I want a divorce."
She walks away as Kugo feels weak at the knees.
"I got you," he hears All Might say as he's picked up and carried to the conference room.
Kugo sits at the table and tries to calm down but can't believe his life is falling apart. All Might watches, hoping Kugo won't pass out. Hating this is his fault.
