Casualties: 28 dead, 2 missing

Notes:

Sixty scouts participated in the expedition with the goal of expanding humanity's territory outside the wall. Half of them were unable to come back with the notable casualties including Captain Levi (missing), Squad Leader Stefan, and Squad Leader Ross (Medical Division).

A small troop of scouts was sent outside the walls two days after the 53rd expedition. The main objective is to find the missing body of Captain Levi and a subordinate under his direct command. Status of the mission: failed. Both bodies were unrecovered, but the—

Commander Erwin Smith stared at the most recent report of the expedition held a week ago. This was, by far, the least number of casualties they had since he took over as the new Commander eight months ago. But the loss of his captain, humanity's strongest soldier, was the biggest blow of all. Frankly, he would prefer losing one hundred scouts than losing the most important figure, aside from him, in the Survey Corps.

But he had always been perceptive, and something tells him that the loss of the Captain was intentional. And he had an inkling that somewhere inside the walls, Captain Levi and the lost subordinate were still alive.
