Sonic X: We'll Always Be Friends

Author's Note: Hello everyone. CreativeKitty975 here and this is my second Sonic X fanfiction. It's been a while since my last story but that's because I've started my senior year of college. I'm also completing an internship for the fall at an animal shelter so college and the internship will keep me busy. But regardless of my busy life, I will manage to find time to continue writing my stories.

I also have an active Twitter account! I go by CreativeKitty97 so feel free to check out my Twitter page for story updates and other stuff!

This story takes place during the episode A Dastardly Deed. I wanted to write this story because I've always felt that Chris should have told Sonic how he was feeling about having to let him return home. I feel if we had a moment like that, then we would understand why Chris is so reluctant in letting Sonic leave.

Without further ado, let's get onto the story!

Disclaimer: I don't own Sonic, Sonic X and their characters. All credit goes to SEGA and 4Kids TV.

Sonic X: We'll Always Be Friends

It was a calm and peaceful night in Station Square. The weather was clear with the stars and moon shining brightly in the night sky. Most people were fast asleep in bed at home, preparing to start a new day in the morning.

At the Thorndyke mansion, everyone was sleeping peacefully without a care in the world. However, there was one person in the mansion who was having a hard time getting some sleep.

Chris was tossing and turning in his bed, trying to get comfortable and close his eyes so he could go to sleep. However, he found that sleeping was impossible for him over the last few days.

During the week, Sonic and his friends were searching everywhere for the seventh Chaos Emerald. Sonic and his friends had four, Knuckles had one, and Eggman had one which meant once the last one was found, they would be able to activate Chaos Control and return home. There would be the problem of getting Eggman's emerald, but if Sonic could somehow retrieve the emerald Eggman possessed, then he would be returning to his home world.

While the search was going on, Chris couldn't help but feel conflicted over finding the last Chaos Emerald. As much as he wanted to help his friends return home, Chris started thinking about what his life would be like once his friends left him. Because his parents had busy jobs, Chris was often lonely in the big mansion and didn't have many friends. He did have Danny, Frances, and Helen as friends at school, but it wasn't the same because they got to return home to their parents while Chris returned home to an empty mansion.

When Chris met Sonic and his friends and offered them a place to stay while living on Earth, his home wasn't so empty anymore and he enjoyed hanging out with his new friends. Chris liked going on exciting adventures with Sonic and his friends and they all had cool and unique superpowers they could use. As Chris had spent more time with Sonic and his friends, he felt as if they had become part of his family. They were like the brothers and sisters he never had while growing up but always wanted. Unfortunately, Chris knew that once his Mobian friends returned to their world, he would be all alone again in a big mansion with nobody to hang out with.

Realizing that he couldn't sleep no matter how hard he tried, Chris eventually decided that some fresh air would help him. As quietly as possible, Chris left his room and made his way downstairs until he eventually found himself outside near the adult pool. Taking a seat in one of the pool chairs, the young boy would give himself some time to reflect on his thoughts and conflicting emotions before returning to bed.

Staring at the water of the pool, Chris remembered how he first met Sonic and how his life had changed forever after that night. While he did agree to help Sonic and his friends return home, there was a small part of the boy that didn't want Sonic to leave. Chris knew he was being selfish in thinking that, but at the same time, he feared being lonely once his friends left.

'I just don't know what to do anymore,' Chris thought to himself with a frown on his face. 'I want to help my friends but how am I supposed to let them go back home?'

"Chris? Are you okay?" A familiar voice asked.

Recognizing the voice, Chris snapped out of his thoughts and slowly turned his head to see Sonic staring at him with a concerned look on his face.

"Sonic," Chris said, "What are you doing up this late?"

"I could ask you the same question," Sonic replied. "I was sleeping peacefully on the roof and noticed that you came outside, so I wanted to see if you were okay."

"Yeah, I'm fine," Chris lied, trying to hide the sadness he was feeling at the moment. "I just couldn't sleep so I decided to get some fresh air."

"Are you sure?" Sonic asked the young boy curiously. "Because it doesn't look like you're fine. It looks like you've got something on your mind."

Chris could only stare at Sonic in silence, shocked at how easy he could tell that something was bothering him. However, Chris knew that the blue hedgehog was very observant and always had some way of knowing when his friends were sad.

After a long moment of silence, Chris finally decided that he was going to tell Sonic what was on his mind. The young boy had a close friendship with the blue hedgehog, and he knew that if anyone could help him with his emotional conflict, it was Sonic.

"Well," Chris began with a sigh, "there is something that's been bothering me for a few days. But I don't know what to do because my problem is a bit complicated."

Hearing the tone of his friend's voice, Sonic knew that Chris was upset, and something was wrong. Sonic wasted no time walking to the chair Chris was sitting in and sat down next to him.

"Whatever it is that's bothering you, you can tell me." Sonic gently said while looking Chris in the eyes, hoping that his human friend would open up about his problem.

Seeing Sonic gazing at him with worried eyes, Chris took a deep breath before revealing what was wrong. "Sonic," Chris began nervously, "D-Do you... want to go back home to your world?"

Sonic considered the question for a minute before answering. "Well, I don't mind being on Earth. I got to explore new places and go on plenty of exciting adventures. I even got to make some new friends." Sonic admitted with a smile. "But eventually I do want to return to my world. Mobius has lots of nice places and it's where I grew up my whole life. In my opinion, there's no place better than home."

Glancing at Chris, Sonic's smile faded and was replaced with a frown. "Why do you ask?"

Chris was a bit hesitant but eventually forced himself to speak. "B-Because, once you find the last Chaos Emerald, y-you're… gonna go back home."

Upon hearing his friend's response, Sonic immediately understood what was bothering his friend. "I understand what the problem is," Sonic said compassionately. "You don't want me to leave Earth, do you?"

All Chris could do was look away from the blue hedgehog as he nodded. "Yeah," Chris replied quietly. "I want to help you return home but once you leave, I'm gonna be all alone again."

Sonic gently placed his hand on Chris' shoulder which made Chris look up at his friend. "You're not gonna be alone when I leave." Sonic reassured the young boy. "You have Danny, Frances, and Helen to hang out with."

"Yeah, but it's not the same." Chris replied while trying to fight back tears. "They all get to see their parents when they go home while my parents are too busy to spend time with me."

"I know," Sonic said softly, knowing that Chris doesn't see his parents too often. "It must be hard growing up without your parents around."

"That's why I don't want you leaving to go back home." Chris said, his voice starting to break. "Without my parents around, my home is so empty and lonely. I don't want to go back to my old life before I met you. I-I don't… w-want to say goodbye."

Finally, Chris couldn't control his emotions any longer. Tears started spilling down his face as he cried softly, releasing all the sadness he felt over the last few days. As much as he didn't want to cry in front of Sonic, the young boy couldn't help it.

As he was crying, Sonic could only watch his friend and feel pure sympathy for the young boy. He had a feeling that Chris was acting differently than his usual self, but he didn't know that the problem was this bad. Unable to stand seeing his friend so sad, Sonic leaned forward and wrapped his arms around Chris to try and help him calm down.

Feeling a pair of arms wrap around him, Chris looked up through his teary eyes and saw Sonic holding him in a comforting embrace. Wasting no time, Chris hugged the blue hedgehog back and cried into his shoulder.

"Don't cry, Chris," Sonic said in a calm and soothing tone. "Everything's gonna be okay."

The two friends stayed in the embrace for a few minutes until Chris finally managed to reduce his sobbing into sniffles and stopped the steady flow of tears running down his face. Feeling his friend starting to calm down, Sonic slowly released Chris from the hug and gazed at his face which was stained with tears.

"I'm sorry," Chris sniffled while wiping the tears off his face. "I know I'm being selfish in wanting you to stay here, but it's just so hard to say goodbye."

"You're not being selfish, Chris," Sonic gently reassured the boy. "You still want to do the right thing and help us go back home. And I understand why you don't want us leaving. But eventually, there will come a day where we need to go home."

"Yeah, I know," Chris sighed while shifting his gaze to the ground.

Seeing that Chris was still feeling sad, Sonic started thinking of something to say to help his human friend cheer up. Gazing up at the sky for a moment, it wasn't long before Sonic found the right words to say to make Chris feel better.

"Hey Chris," Sonic began, which got the young boy's attention. "Did you know that the stars and the moon look the same in both my world and your world?"

"Really?" Chris questioned, surprised to hear what his friend had just said.

"Yeah," Sonic confirmed, "I discovered the stars and moon are the same in both worlds the first night I came here. That means whenever you miss me, you can look up to the moon and know that we're both seeing the same moon."

Chris looked up to the sky and considered what Sonic said for a minute before gaining an understanding of what his friend meant. "So, does that mean you're gonna remember me when you go back home?" Chris asked.

"Of course I'll remember you." Sonic replied with a wink. "You were the one who saved me from drowning in your pool and offered me and my friends a place to stay while we're living here on Earth. We've also gone on lots of adventures together. There's no way I'm gonna forget you once I leave."

"You mean it?" Chris asked, while looking at Sonic to see if he was serious.

"Yeah," Sonic confirmed. "As much as I don't want to leave you here all alone, I can always come back for a visit. I'm sure that Tails can build a portal or something that can allow us to see each other whenever we want. I could even take you to Mobius someday so you can get to see my world for yourself."

"That would be really cool if I could see your world." Chris said, as he thought of what it would be like getting to go to Sonic's world.

"Even though we may live on different worlds, it doesn't mean our friendship will end once I go home." Sonic said with an easygoing grin on his face. "I'm always gonna remember my time here on Earth just like how you're gonna remember all the fun and exciting adventures we've had together. I just want you to know that no matter what happens, we'll always be friends."

Hearing what the blue hedgehog just said, Chris felt a wave of relief wash over him as he simply smiled back at Sonic. He knew that while Sonic couldn't stay on Earth forever, the blue hedgehog was right, and the power of their friendship was strong enough that they would remain friends even after he returned to Mobius.

"Are you feeling better now?" Sonic asked his human friend, noticing that he didn't look upset anymore.

"Yeah, much better," Chris replied. "Thanks for coming out here to check on me. I really needed to get this conflict off my chest."

"No problem, buddy," Sonic replied, while slowly standing up and offering a hand to Chris to help him up. "That's what friends are for. They help each other whenever there's a problem. Anytime you have something that's bothering you, I'm always here if you need someone to talk to."

Chris accepted the hand and stood up from the pool chair. The two friends gazed at each other for a minute with warm smiles on their faces. Chris was amazed at how Sonic had managed to help him with his conflict and make him feel better at the same time. The young boy really liked how Sonic could always comfort his friends and make them happy again, especially after they were sad.

"Well," Sonic said, breaking the silence of the night surrounding them. "I don't know about you, but I'm going back to sleep. Will you be okay going to bed now?"

"Yeah, I'll be fine sleeping now." Chris replied.

"Okay, then I'll see you tomorrow morning." Sonic said before making a mighty leap onto the roof. Chris watched his friend settle down on the roof into a comfortable sleeping position, amazed that he could jump so high and land on the roof with ease.

"Goodnight, Sonic." Chris called up to the blue hedgehog.

"Goodnight, Chris." Sonic replied.

As quietly as he could, Chris made his way back inside the mansion and returned upstairs to his bedroom. Upon entering his room, Chris made his way back to his warm and comfy bed. Tucking himself into bed, Chris couldn't help but reflect on his talk with Sonic and how he felt better emotionally after revealing his true feelings.

'Sonic may have to return home eventually, but it's good to know that we'll always be friends, no matter where we are.' Chris thought to himself, finally feeling relaxed with his emotional state. Surprisingly, Chris found himself now feeling okay with letting Sonic return home. With his conflicting emotions resolved, Chris no longer felt any dread in helping his friends find the last Chaos Emerald. Instead, he was now determined to do his part to help his friends finally return home to their world.

With this new resolve in mind, Chris finally drifted off to sleep. He knew that it was going to be hard saying goodbye to his Mobian friends, but thanks to Sonic, the young boy learned just how powerful their friendship was. Even after Sonic and his friends returned home, Chris knew that they would remain friends forever because nothing was going to break their strong friendship.

Author's Note: That concludes my first Hurt/Comfort story. As I was writing this story, I wanted to dive deep into the conflicting emotions that Chris was feeling. Chris is one of my favorite human characters and I know that many people don't like him because he's seen as whiny and selfish. By writing this story, I wanted to show that Chris wasn't trying to be selfish and that he still wanted to help his friends, but he also had good reasons for why he didn't want his friends leaving.

It also kinda bothered me how Chris never told anyone how he was feeling about having to let Sonic and his friends go back home. Therefore, my main inspiration for writing this story was thinking of what would have happened if Chris had told Sonic about his true emotions. That way, we would get to really understand what Chris is thinking and his perspective on his situation. I also really like the friendship between Sonic and Chris, so I wanted to explore that in the story.

My next story is going to be The Power Outage, where a nasty thunderstorm knocks the power out at the Thorndyke mansion, and a certain two-tailed fox needs comfort during the storm.

I hope I did a good job for my very first Hurt/Comfort story. If you enjoyed the story, feel free to leave a review and tell me your thoughts. Even if you have any constructive criticism, all feedback is appreciated and will help me become a better fanfic writer.
