CHAPTER 3 - STRANGE BOY

"Seriously, he is a complete idiot!" Bulma complained as she stuffed as much sandwich as she could into her mouth. It was already lunch break and she was still upset about what happened in math class.

"He looks awful!" Chi Chi said.

"Chi Chi already hates him and she doesn't even know the guy", 18 laughed. "He's not that bad, girls..."

"And do you happen to know him?" Bulma narrowed her eyes.

"Well, I talked to him before classes started. He had just had a fight with Goku, it was really cool", the blonde shrugged.

"Look, let's stop talking about this idiot", Bulma took a deep breath.

"Speaking of idiots, where's Yamcha?" The blonde girl asked.

"He's not idi..." Bulma started to speak, but stopped when she realized her boyfriend wasn't really there. "Where is he?"

"Isn't he there, sitting with Goku?" Chi Chi pointed to a table. "And that girl isn't the girl we know today, Launch?"

"Yeah, it seems so", Bulma muttered.

"You know, we should sit together with them!" Chi Chi exclaimed.

As if he could read the girl's mind, Goku, who was sitting with Yamcha and the others at a table across the cafeteria, started waving and yelling.

"Hey, girls! Come sit with us!" He smiled as he waved.

"Either he heard you, or he read your mind", Bulma joked as she picked up her tray and stood up.

"Where are you going?" 18 narrowed his eyes.

"Sit with the boys, duh", the blue hair shrugged.

18 took a deep breath and she and Chi Chi followed Bulma.

"Guys, these are my friends Bulma, Chi Chi and 18", Goku introduced them and everyone at the table greeted them.

"I'm Launch", the girl with dark blue hair nodded.

-This is Tien, he doesn't talk much... - Goku chuckled as he scratched the back of his neck.

"I've met Launch and Tien before", Bulma said with a laugh.

The group was talking for some time, until they had to go back to the classrooms.

"Already?! I haven't even eaten enough yet!" The taller boy despaired and began to stuff everything he could in his mouth.

"I think we better go soon", Yamcha said and everyone agreed, except Goku, who was too 'busy'.

"At least now I have gym class", Bulma bragged.

"Lucky", 18 pouted.

They got up and went to their respective classes.

"Right, brats, today you're going to show me what you know, because the annual tournament is months away and I don't want to waste time", the teacher took a deep breath. It was pretty clear that he didn't want to be teaching that class.

"Tournament? Is it something football, baseball or something?", Bulma whispered to Goku, who was the only person he knew in that gym.

"Nah, it's fight!" The boy exclaimed and began to do stretches and sit-ups.

Bulma couldn't help but smile slightly. As a public figure and the daughter of the richest man in the world, she had practiced self-defense since she was a child, so the girl knew a thing or two about fighting.

"Novices can just watch. The others, training for two", the teacher started to pair up, leaving only one specific person alone.

"Sit in the stands, Vegeta", Piccolo ordered.

"Sit down?" Vegeta repeated as if that was the biggest offense he had ever heard.

"I won't let you train in these conditions", Piccolo said firmly.

Before the boy could say anything, Goku was faster.

"Let him train with me, Mr. Piccolo. I promise I'll take it easy!" Vegeta snorted at the last sentence.

"You know what, do what you want", the teacher shrugged and walked away.

"Are these two friends?" Bulma thought aloud, watching Goku and Vegeta.

"Since they were kids", the girl Piccolo had put to train with Bulma replied. "You're Bulma Briefs, aren't you?"

"Uh, yes", the blue-haired one said.

"I'm Zangya", the redhead got into a fighting stance. "Don't think I'll be nice to you just because you're rich."

"I didn't think about it for a moment", Bulma narrowed her eyes and got into a fighting stance as well.

Zangya stepped forward and punched Bulma. What she didn't expect was that the girl would easily defend that punch.

"When you start fighting seriously, let me know", the blue-haired one gave a smile of pure debauchery and returned the punch, which caught Zangya's stomach.

"I must remember that it is only to train technique, and not to hurt colleagues", Mr. Piccolo said especially to Bulma.

"You bitch", the redhead muttered to Bulma and kneed her in the stomach.

"I just don't spank you because I don't feel like having detention on the first day of school", Bulma hissed, recovering from the blow.

Zangya returned to fighting stance, but realized that Bulma was paying attention to something else. More specifically in the fight between Goku and Vegeta.

"And I thought I was an excellent fighter", she thought watching the boys' movements, which were so fast she could barely keep up. She was even more impressed because it seemed that the two of them weren't even taking it seriously, not to mention that Vegeta looked like he was... hurt. Bulma was caught off guard by an elbow to the face that knocked her to the ground.

"Okay, I think that was enough for me to see all of your abilities" P,iccolo said. He knew that if he prolonged this any longer, someone would get hurt and, worst of all, the headmaster would blame him.

"This fight was good, Vegeta!" Goku smiled.

"Humph", the shorter one huffed, frowning, and went to the locker room to change. Goku just ignored it and kept smiling.

"I love Mr. Piccolo's classes", Goku commented to Bulma.

"I would have liked it better if I hadn't been elbowed in the face", Goku swore he saw smoke coming out of Bulma's ears.

"I think we'd better change our clothes and go back to the living room", he laughed nervously.

The last classes of the day were ordinary and boring, the girls were exhausted and couldn't wait to go home.

"Hey, Goku, come quick, bucko!" Yamcha poked his head out of Bulma's car and yelled. Goku looked to the side and saw Vegeta walking slowly. The boy pressed his lips together and was thoughtful for a few seconds, until he made a decision.

"I'll walk", he smiled nervously. "You know, taking a walk..." He made up an excuse. Yamcha just nodded and warned Bulma. Soon Goku saw the car pulling out of the school's parking lot.

"Vegeta, Vegeta!" He yelled and ran towards his friend.

"What do you want, Kakarot?" Vegeta moaned slightly in pain, but he didn't stop walking. His house was not close and he still needed to pass one place before.

"Oh, why did you call me to fight at the beginning of class?!" Goku pouted. He should have realized that his friend was not okay, but when he talked about fighting, he forgot about everything else. Vegeta was the same way. He sighed when he saw that Vegeta wouldn't answer him.

Vegeta knew very well why Kakarot was following him: it wasn't out of pity for his injuries, after all he had seen him much worse before, the damned boy wanted to know what had happened.

"If that's what you want to know, I asked to leave", the shorter one said with some hesitation.

"Seriously?!" Goku stopped and stared at him.

"And what did he say? Did he accept your departure? But then why are you hurt?"

Vegeta winced a little at all these questions, but Goku didn't even notice.

"When I asked, he got stressed and hit me, but then he called me and said that I was useless and that's why I wouldn't be of any use to him anymore."

The tallest one jumped for joy at that moment. "At least you were excused from all those dirty jobs! I said it would be all right!"

"Yeah...", he forced a smile. "We're here. I think you better go to your house..."

"True... Bye!" Goku smiled and hugged his friend, who immediately shuddered in pain. "Sorry, I forgot." He scratched the back of his neck.

Vegeta entered the school and a bubbly six-year-old boy ran to hug him. Vegeta had lied to Kakarot. Those guys hadn't dumped him, they had promised they would make Vegeta's life hell, but that didn't matter to him right now. If your little brother was okay, so would he.

"Today I'm happy", Bulma smiled, closing her locker. It was already a break and the school day was being calm.

"Why?" 18 asked.

"You do not know? Next week she and Yamcha have a year of dating", Chi Chi chuckled, making heart shapes with their hands.

"It's still next week and she's already happy? Stupid", the blonde rolled her eyes as she tidy a lock of her golden hair.

"Oh, you're so bad and cold", Chi Chi snorted and Bulma decided to ignore her friend.

At that moment the bell rang and the girls said goodbye.

Bulma was lost in the school hallway. One of the teachers had been absent for some reason and Bulma would now have a vacant class. She then decided to go to the terrace. "Shit", she heard a curse. Looks like someone else was passing the vacant class there.

When she saw the familiar hair, she huffed loudly and turned away.

"What's wrong, little preppy?" She heard and turned to face him.

"Leave me alone, Vegeta", Bulma rolled her eyes. She was leaving, but she had a brilliant idea. Vegeta was probably just as uncomfortable with her presence as she felt uncomfortable with him, so Bulma sat next to him on the penthouse just to annoy him.

"Hum, shouldn't you be with your little friends?" Vegeta muttered, not taking his eyes off the various other buildings that could be seen from that terrace.

"Not that I owe you explanations, but I'm having this vacant class, so I decided to come here. To my disappointment, you had the same idea as me." Vegeta just grunted in response.

The two were silent for a while and Bulma, without noticing, began to observe that peculiar boy who was sitting next to her. He looked more hurt than yesterday and she noticed that he was breathing with some difficulty. Since Bulma first saw him she had noticed that he kept his face in the same usual frown, making his facial expressions practically unreadable, but she swore she saw some pain in that cold gaze. Despite all that, he was pretty. Prettier than she cared to admit.

"Are you staring at me?"

"Oh?" She came out of her trance. "No of course not!"

He didn't say anything, just smiled crookedly.

"Hey, I never saw you in the refectory", Bulma decided to start a conversation. !Do you never feel hungry?" She joked.

Vegeta's stomach growled, as if it had heard Bulma's joke. The awkward silence came back stronger than ever this time.

Bulma sighed and took a cereal bar from her pocket and placed it on Vegeta's lap. It wasn't much, but her intention was good. The boy gave her a quizzical look and she just smiled back. The silence was no longer so awkward, but rather…pleasant. Suddenly that strange boy didn't seem so unpleasant to Bulma anymore.

What was Vegeta talking about? Who are these guys who threatened him? Who am I kidding, you sure already knowXD Not to mention that we finally had a slightly cute B&V moment. By the way, did you like Piccolo professor? If I were a professor I won't lie, I would probably be impatient like him lol.
