City: St. Georgina
State: Lanahassee
The year was 1975. The city of St. Georgina in the state of Lanahassee was a musical epicenter for the state, and with all of that buzz going around, there are always going to be crooks, criminals and even dangerous causes for fires, let alone the ultimate "Acts of God" that could cause wildfires and even death. Even though the last wildfire recorded in the state was when a few campers left their campfire going on Razorback Mountain and almost all the Lanahassee Fire Department were dispatched to it.
*Inside Station 59*
Dispatcher (from Speaker on the wall): Station 59, Engine and Truck 67, Battalion 38, House explosion unknown origin, 1024 Reynolds Road, 1-0-2-4 Reynolds road time out 09:50
The two-bay garage opens from the darkened garage of the station to allow the blinding morning sun into the station's darker interior.
Profile view of the 1972 Dodge D-300 Rescue Squad and the 1973 Ward LaFrance fire engine leaving the station lights flashing and sirens blaring into the morning air.
Cut to a two-story Colonial style house a-blaze from the left side where a large hole, big enough to drive through had been blown into smithereens. The fire became more violent gradually over the past few moments. Engine 67, Truck 67, and Battalion 38 have arrived.
Engine 67: Engine 67 at scene, we have a 48x60 two-story colonial that's occupied working fire. Engine 59, we will need a manifold from the hydrant. Squad 59 do an interior search.
Engine and Squad 59 pull in front of the burning house.
Captain Dean: Alright boys, Deke, get that 5 inch and hook her up. Bart, Bryon, Kenny, Ron, you guys are going in.
Captain Dean Keyed the mic of his radio
Cptn. Dean: Engine 67, Engine 59, you and truck 67 approach the side. That is our source of the fire.
Engine 67: 10-4, 59.
Two hours later, the fire is out leaving little more than a smoldering husk of what was a beautiful Colonial-style house
Captain Dean picked up his handy-talkie and keyed the mic
Captain Dean: This is Engine 59; Squad 59 is en route to Consular General with a critical patient. Prepping to comb the scene for signs of Arson.
Dispatcher: 10-4, 59. The L.S.P.D. has dispatched Arson unit detectives to meet you there.
*A black 1970 Plymouth Fury GT 2-door pulled up and parked diagonally in front of the Engine.
*Two detectives, one wearing a sharp double-breasted pinstripe suit, the other wearing a grayish-black suit get out of the car. *
Detective in black suit (Matthew Reed): Hey Captain,
Detective in gray suit (Joe Burns): Hey Cap. What have we got?
Captain Dean: House explosion. My guess is a water heater, severely damaged.
Reed: Looks like something went through the house. The broken wood is on the inside.
Burns: Yeah, look at the brick at the foundation of the house. It looks as if something hit it hard.
The three men look around to see the broken fence near the house as if there had been a car or a truck barreling through.
Burns pulls two bricks from what was left of the foundation.
Burns: Matt, come look at this.
Reed: What do you think?
Burns: The house may and may not have been a target.
Reed: possibly
Burns: Yeah, there is red paint embedded into the brick.
They returned to their Plymouth and put the bricks onto the Dash pad under a package.
Reed: The two bodies in the room where the explosion happened, you think it was a MO for murder?
Burns: Maybe, we got to see what tech services has to say.
Burns picked up the police radio and keyed the mic.
Burns: Dispatch, Sierra-12.
Police Dispatcher: Go ahead.
Burns: We've got evidence of possible foul play and Hit & Run.
Police Dispatcher: 10-4, Sierra-12.
Burns: Can you notify Alpha-99 of our discovery?
Police Dispatcher: They're on their way.
Reed and Burns separate to look over the scene. Reed towards the road and fence, Burns towards the house.
*Burns looks around for signs of the fire's direction. Going by the scorch marks on the ceiling and walls. *
Burns: Looks like the scorch marks lead towards the inside of the house. It spread from the water heater and caught the rest of the house in its path.
Reed is following the path the vehicle took from the road. Tire marks on the tarmac, and a small, scratched gold plated "V"-shaped emblem lying near the curb.
Reed: What is this?
*Examining the piece of metal, Half of the gold plating had been scraped off and there were little ripples where it may have hit something.
Reed: Hmmm…
Reed and Burns return to their Plymouth and get in.
Reed: What'd you find, Joe?
Burns: Scorch marks leading to the interior, and the remains of what was a gas water heater in the middle of the living area. You?
*Reed hands Burns the Rippled V-Shaped piece of metal. *
Burns: What's this?
Reed: That is a grill emblem from a car.
Burns: Do you know what Kind?
Reed: No. But Schuarts down in Tech Services ought to know.
A Black 1968 Dodge Charger R/T pulls up next to the '70 Fury.
*Two men exit the car. The first, was tall (Around 6'5") wearing a brown leather jacket, a black t-shirt, blue jeans, and black cowboy boots. He has got medium-length sandy-brown hair, black rimmed glasses, and a full-faced beard that has slight hints of red and blonde over it's dark brown base. The other man was shorter (around 5'10"). He had his long jet-black hair back in a pony-tail, his goatee matching the color of his hair. He was wearing a Black Blazer coat, a white button-up shirt, dark blueish-black jeans, and a pair of black boots.
The Tall one is Detective Dustin Holcomb, the shorter one is Detective Jason Adams.
NB: After the two detectives explained the situation to Holcomb and Adams, the Two men checked over the House. Leading them to the Basement door.
Holcomb: This door is Locked.
Dustin kicks open the door
Shows a lamp-lit work bench. The room was empty.
Jason: Look what we have got here.
Dustin checks the desk while Jason checks out the rest of the room.
Dustin finds an envelope filled with stuff inside.
*Dustin empties the envelope onto the desk revealing some polaroid photos and two different letters comprised of letters from different magazines and newspapers. The first letter saying "You've made your last mistake, Asshole." The second says " The money. $50,000. You owe me! If I don't get my money, you and your family are going to die."
Holcomb: I guess that confirms part of our M.O.
Adams: Yeah. C'mon put them back in the envelope. We need to see if Schuarts can lift prints.
*Dustin notices a lock box unlocked and two stacks 50 of clean $100 with more inside.
Holcomb: Hey, look at this.
Dustin opens the lock box to reveal three more stacks of 100.
Holcomb: There's gotta be at least $25,000 in bills here Jase.
Adams: Its evidence of a pay-off, confirms what I've been thinking'
Holcomb: Explain your theory.
Adams: The victim tried to pay at least part of the money. The suspect must have felt insulted.
Adams had the crime scene photographer document photos of the lock box and put it in the many bits of evidence gathered from the scene in the charger.
Adams: What now?
Holcomb: Work the neighbors. I'll go next door, you go across the street.
Adams: Got ya. I'll meet you at the charger when we're done.
*Jason goes across the street to question the Residence across the street, while Dustin checked next door. Dustin knocked on the door of a similar two-story house.
*A Frazzled looking middle-aged lady answered the door. She was wearing a floral print blouse, Off-white Khaki pants, and pair of white shoes.
Lady: " Can I help you, sir?"
Dustin shows his badge.
Dustin: Yes Ma'am, I'm Detective Dustin Holcomb from the Lanahassee State Police. Could you tell me what happened here? And I need your name.
Lady: I'm Ellen. Ellen Daniels. I woke up this morning to a large Commotion.
Holcomb: What kind of commotion?
Mrs. Daniels: I heard two loud bangs, and ran to the front door opened it and looked at the left and saw a red and white car possibly from the 50s leaving from the yard slowly well casually even
Holcomb: Did you get a license plate number? Or see who was driving?
Mrs. Daniels: I did get part of the plate number the first 3 letters C, Q, B but could not see the driver window it was too dark to see into the car.
Holcomb: did you call 911?
Mrs. Daniels: Yes, I did and ran to the back door to see if the neighbors had come outside, 'cause they were all at home. But no one came out.
Holcomb: Is there anything else about the car that you could possibly tell me.
: Long Silver and pearl-like trim on the side, Fins on the tail, and some heavy damage to the front end. It's a miracle it was even driving.
Holcomb: Mhmm. Well, Thank you for your help.
Hands her his business card.
Holcomb: If you have any sort of information to add to this later on, call me at this number. If need be if I am away, leave a message with the operator. He'll get it to me as soon as I return to the office.
Mrs. Daniels: Of course, Detective.
*As Dustin was interviewing Mrs. Daniels of 1022 Reynolds Road, Jason was across the street interviewing Mr. Alfred Peterson of 1025 Reynolds Road. *
Jason: Hello, I'm Detective Adams, Lanahassee State Police. We're investigating the situation across the street. We've got reason to believe they were attacked.
Peterson: Well, I heard a loud bang that woke me up. I had no clue what happened at first. I worked late last night, and I was sleeping in. Today's my day off.
Jason: What happened after you heard the bang?
Peterson: Well, I damn near fell down the stairs trying to get to my living room window. I seen the house on fire.
Jason: Did you see anything happen within the past few days?
Peterson: I seen someone put something in their mailbox last night. I couldn't really see him to clearly, but from what I seen, he was an older man. He was kind of hunched over like his back was giving him a bit of a fit.
Jason: Did he walk up?
Peterson: He had walked from his car to the mailbox.
Jason: Did you get a make of the vehicle or model?
Peterson: Had to be at least a late 50's Plymouth or a Chrysler but not the model. It was too dark.
Jason: Here's my card. Call and ask for me if you have any more info. If I'm not there the message will be relayed.
* The two Detectives arrived back at the black Charger. *
Jason: What'd you learn?
Dustin: 50's model car Red and White with heavy damage leaving the scene. You?
Jason: Description of a likely suspect. Old man driving a Late 50's Plymouth or Chrysler.
Dustin: That's a start Let's go see C-bass. He's probably got something for us at Tech services.
Jason: Yeah he's real good about finding out miniscule details.
*Dustin and Jason get in the Charger and Dustin starts the Engine. *
Dustin: Hopefully he's already found something.
Jason: Yeah, the last thing we want is to let this draw out any more than it needs to.
*the charger pulls away from the scene and drives of down the street headed back towards Pricinct 51. *
