Tuesday 9:15 pm
How was the rest of your night?
Hi! It was tiring.
Lots to do?
I can't say exactly. I've tried but it disappears. Simply, yes.
Do you want to sleep?
It's only 8:30. Hey it let me write that.
Me too. We're in the same time zone.
And that narrows it down so much.
Love, are you mad?
It's just… you finally responded.
I am _. Hmm, it disappeared as I wrote.
You can't get into specifics.
I didn't think it was a specific.
Makes sense.
Anyway, I'm only newly able to respond. I did as soon as I saw the writing.
Which one did you see first?
The one on my forearm.
I wrote that one randomly a year ago.
By randomly, you mean the one time it wasn't a private place.
Hey, I used to write on our hands but you didn't answer.
Again, I apologize.
You don't have to. I just figured at the least I could be private about it. Something you could hide.
I don't want to hide you, love.
I'm overwhelmed. So you're not wearing clothes? No, that's worse. I'm rambling and I've made it worse.
You're not wearing clothes either.
You made it weird. Now my dysphoria is peaked.
I'm sorry.
It's okay.
Are you sure?
Yeah, I only say it when I mean it. It's kinda a thing.
I'll accept that. I'm feeling a bit dysphoric myself.
Oh, are you not your assigned gender, either?
Not entirely.
What are your pronouns?
Any. At the moment, none.
Cool.
What are your pronouns?
He/him.
It's nice to meet you.
It's nice to meet you too.
Well, I should get to sleep.
It's… it's too early to sleep.
I have a big day tomorrow and I don't sleep well under stress.
So there's no convincing you to stay up.
I'd love to. But I have to be with hundreds of teenagers tomorrow.
Me too. School.
It's my first day. And I'm nervous.
Beat.
Don't know why I admitted that.
Maybe you're comfortable with me.
Maybe.
Well, I hope you have a good first day.
Thanks, love. Good night.
Good night.
Wednesday 8:00 am
Loki walks down the hallway feeling a little less confident than usual. But only a little so the crowds still part for her.
"Who is that?" Ned asks.
Peter looks around and sees a beautiful black hair, green eyed boy at a locker. Then their skirt. Or girl, actually.
"I don't know but they are pretty."
"Why the emphasis on they?"
"I can't figure out their gender."
Ned nods and closes his locker.
"I wish I was that tall."
"Me too." Peter says, wishfully.
"Good things come in small packages." They say together and high five.
Loki turns at the sound and makes eye contact with Peter.
Peter gives a shy wave. Loki smiles a bit and Peter waves harder. Loki laughs. Peter turns away, flushed.
"Did they just laugh at me?"
"What?" Ned asks, confused.
"Nothing, nevermind. Gotta get to class."
"Bye."
The boys separate. Loki frowns. The bell rings.
Loki finally finds her classroom. Stupid Dad. Normally she can teleport where she needs to be.
Loki looks around the class nervously as she is told to introduce herself. She locks eyes with the boy from the hallway.
"My name is Lucy or Luke depending on the day. Today I'm Lucy."
Peter is shocked at how blatantly they just came out. Well, she just came out. So shocked he misses his name being said by the teacher. And is surprised when the pretty girl sits next to him.
They make eye contact again. Peter thinks of his soulmate at their school alone.
"Hi, my name is Peter."
Loki smiles fully and offers a hand.
"Lucy."
The moment their hands touch, there a familiar sensation.
"That's..." Loki trails off, confused.
"We're soulmates." Peter says, with reverently.
"Hi, love."
Peter blushes. And sees the teacher looking at them.
"Let's talk at lunch."
Wednesday 12:20 pm
It was a good thing Peter said that. They didn't have anymore classes together.
"Dude, you forgot to update me this morning." Ned says as they sit down at their lunch table.
"Oh. Well, we talked last night." Peter says looking around the cafeteria.
"Like you said, you would. Anything happen?"
"Yeah. They said they had their first day of school today."
"Weird to start on a Wednesday."
"And then we had a new student today."
"How smart do they have to be to start a magnet that was at capacity."
"I met her and..." Peter sees that Ned is staring off so he turns around.
"Are they walking towards us?"
"She is." Peter says, resisting the urge to wave.
"Why?"
"I invited her to sit with us."
"You're shy."
"Peter." Loki greets and sits down.
"Hi, Lucy."
Ned states at Peter. It takes a minute but he catches Peter's eye.
"Oh, yeah. So I was thinking how my soulmate was alone at school today and I felt bad so I walked to the new girl. Is that the right way to refer to you?"
"At the moment, yes."
"Let me know if it changes?"
"Will do." Loki smiles again.
And they stare at each other.
"Am I going to need a new lunch table?" Ned asks.
"We'll behave." Loki promises. "Um, I didn't catch your name."
"Ned, Peter's best friend. Dude, what about your soulmate?"
Peter laughs.
"We are soulmates." He says.
"Dude! Dudette!"
Loki laughs.
