*The Charger pulled in next to the Ambulance at the emergency entrance. They get out and go in to talk to the teenage victim of the house explosion. They walk up to the the Doctor. *
Dustin: We're here to see the little girl from the incident this morning.
Dr. Lee: She is up in room 212B, She's awake and wants to talk to you two.
Jason: Just to keep us from looking dumb, what is her name?
Dr. Lee: Jessica, Jessica Anderson.
Dustin: Thanks Doc.
*They make their way upstairs and knock on the door of room 212B. *
Jessica: Come in.
*The two detectives enter the room, at a cautious pace.
Dustin: Ms. Anderson?
Jessica: Yes?
Dustin: I'm Dustin Holcomb, and this is Jason Adams. We're Detectives for the Lanahassee State Police.
Jessica: Thank goodness, how are my parents.
*Jason turned away and hid his wincing face as well as he could. *
Dustin: Jessica,
*Jessica's head fell. She had a feeling that her mother and father weren't of this mortal coil any longer.
*Dustin pulled the Padded wood-framed chair from next to the window and sat down next to her. *
Dustin: Listen, Jessica. I know this isn't an ideal time, but I need you to tell me anything that might help us put this Cunningham guy behind bars.
*After Jessica recollected herself, she told Dustin everything *
Jessica: We moved into that house when I was around 6 years old. My father was a very accomplished music promotor. He would travel with us to a lot of different places across the country. He did not have a care in the world, that is until Roland Cunningham was hired as a personal maintenance man for our house. He would be rude, and just nasty to everyone. The only person he was nice to was my father. Honestly, I think it was just because he was being paid.
Jason: We've met him. He's a real charmer.
Dustin: What happened?
Jessica: My parents didn't know I knew, but I can put 2 and 2 together. My father and Cunningham had a huge argument about wages. Cunningham thought he wasn't getting enough for his work. My dad said no, politely I might add, my dad was a good amount of things, and mean or nasty wasn't one of them.
Jason: And I think that's when our old friend Roland promptly hit the damn wall.
Jessica: Yes, yes he did. He would send random letters and photos of all three of us. He got real crazy at that point. And then this morning I'm going to ask my dad if I could go to my friend Stacey's house tonight and a huge fireball blows me back and I hit my head on the doorway to the stairs. I wake up here hours later with 2nd and third degree burns and a minor concussion. I'm lucky I can remember all this.
Dustin: We'll be on the lookout for him, Jessica. You've helped us a lot.
*They hand her their cards. *
Jason: If you ever need us, our home and office numbers are on these cards. Don't be afraid to give us a ring.
Dustin: Yeah, and we'll have the doctor notify your school, and your family to inform them of what is going on. If any of your teachers give you any problems, you call me personally.
Jessica: Thank you, detectives. Promise you'll get him.
Dustin: Dead or Alive, Jessica.
Jessica: My friends at school call me Jessie.
Jason: Well, Jessie, When we get him, you will be the first to know.
*With a much brighter air in the room, Dustin and Jason made their way back down to the emergency desk.
Dustin: Well, I think we manage to spark a bit of hope into her heart.
Dr. Lee: Good to hear. We're going to need…
*The police and fire scanner began to go off.
Dispatcher: Any available units in the Area of Carson Hill, Station 59 requesting assistance a non-CODE R. Any available units in the area identify.
Dustin: We can help with that.
Jason: Doc, we'll see you later.
Dr. Lee: Be careful, fellas. We'll Be sending updates through the dispatcher. She's on the phone with Jackie in my office.
*The two detectives went out to the charger, and Dustin grabbed the mic.
Dustin: This is Alpha-99, We're responding from Consular General our eta is 15 minutes.
Dispatcher: 10-4 Alpha-99, use caution, detectives. Two other units are en route to that location now.
Dustin: 10-4
*The black charger burns rubber out of the hospital parking lot and drives down the road towards Carson Hill.
*Note: Carson Hill was once a small part of town that occupied a good amount of small businesses. In 1967, the area was bought out by a very rich land developer and built modest modern homes in the area. But on Carson Hill road were still fast food restaurants, a couple of bars, and the old Davidson Brother's Car lot that, at one time, displayed used Chrysler and G.M. cars including a very distinct 1958 Plymouth Fury Sedan. The lot has been empty since September of 1964.
