Harry Potter and the Death Sentence
DISCLAIMER: I do not own Harry Potter, JKR does. If I did, I wouldn't be here. I'm just using her sandbox.
A/N - This is my first fanfic so I might not be the best at writing. What I'm trying to say is, it might suck. Constructive Criticism is encouraged.
A Series of Unfortunate Events
Vernon Dursley started the day like he started any other. Woke up 30 minutes after he was supposed to, showered, brushed his teeth, hair, and mustache. He had a rushed English breakfast, kissed Petunia Dursley and tried to kiss Dudley, and then started his car to go to work. As Vernon neared the stop sign at the end of the street, slowing his car down, Vernon turned his head to look at the street sign of Privet Drive, half expecting a Tabby reading a map. He shook his head, no need to think like that, not when today was June 25th. The day that he hated most.
Vernon settled into somewhat of a routine at work. He yelled at some people, called a few important people, yelled some more, and finished a bit of his paperwork. If you were to look closer, you would see Vernon's beady eyes darting across the room or sometimes losing focus. It was as if he was expecting someone to come out from under a desk and start waving an axe. The truth is that something bad always happens on the second last Friday of June and it all started when his abnormal nephew started his abnormalness.
The first time something happened was June 26th, 1982 (A/N The day Harry came back from his First Year). Vernon was driving to Kings Cross Station to pick up his freak nephew when suddenly, a deer appeared out of nowhere right in front of his car. Vernon swerved into a ditch and spent 10 minutes trying to push his car back on the road. It turned out all of his fat was just that, not muscle.
The next year, as Vernon went to work, his car unexpectedly broke down, making him late for work which in turn, made his boss yell at him. To say Vernon was gobsmacked was an understatement, he looked like a turtle retreating into his shell.
1984 was an interesting one. Vernon made his way to work and walked right into a glass door. It turns out that the window cleaner did such an amazing job at cleaning the glass doors, that he got fired.
Vernon finally got a break during 1985. Vernon made the connection a few days ago and now, nothing was happening, although that did nothing to ease his nerves. If anything, nothing happening just made Vernon more jumpy.
That all lead to today. The drive to Kings Cross wasn't a pretty sight. Vernon did something akin to trying to run away from a bee, making random turns and never stopping. As Vernon parked outside the Station, he was met with a group of people who couldn't have been any stranger. There was one man with a bowler hat covering one of his eyes and half of his face. The man was clutching a long staff in his right hand and he was dressed in some travelling cloaks. To the left of the man was a girl who had bubble gum pink hair and was wearing patched jeans with a purple shirt. The leader of the group looked like a middle-aged man that was going on 40 with greying hair and bags under his eyes. Needless to say, Vernon was confused.
"Ah, you must be Vernon Dursley," The leader said. "I'm Remus Lupin, a friend of Harry's godfather, I came here to talk to you about Harry's house life."
Vernon seemed shocked at first but then he schooled his features into what he hoped was a face devoid of emotions.
"It's fine," Vernon stuttered a bit too quickly.
The eye of Bowler Hat narrowed,
"Like hell it is," he said gruffly "If he-"
The man named Remus quickly interrupted and with a nervous chuckle and explained what they wanted him to do and the pink-haired girl left the threat of bad things to come, floating in the air.
Vernon eyed them carefully as the strange trio walked over to his nephew and, presumably, explained the same things as they had to him. Vernon watched the boy's gaze land on him before nodding his understanding. Vernon gulped, maybe he wasn't going to escape as Scott-Free as he had hoped.
A/N - Hey guys, I'm back. This chapter is here early and a bit short because of it. I would like to know if you guys like shorter chapters or should I write longer ones? Let me know!
