It was so dark, and she couldn't see a thing... And she couldn't move... This was normal for her... She had no idea how long she had been like this, the days had blended together, making it impossible for her to tell them apart... A never ending nightmare...
"Hello? Is this thing working? Can you hear me?"
She tried to speak, but a voice didn't come from her mouth... And she tried everything, screaming, shouting, begging, pleading, crying, but eventually, a small whimper left her mouth.
"Oh thank Arceus. I knew that you wouldn't get beaten that easily! You need to listen to me! You are in danger, and you need to get out of there! It could return at any minute, and you need to get out of there before it comes back. You need to focus and remember all that you can, if you value your memories at all, you'll listen to what I have to say, now, do you remember your name?"
She shook her head... She couldn't remember anything... The only thing that she remembered was that she was a girl, and what she looked like...
"Damn it! Do you remember what you look like?!"
She nodded her head as a mirror appeared, and she looked into it to see a tiny female human, with long brown hair that reached her waist, with bangs that framed her face, and they almost covered her eyes... There was a large enough gap inbetween the bangs for her to see her blue eyes, that had silver flecks within them, but she felt that something was missing from her face... Her nose and cheeks were covered in freckles, and her mouth was small.
"Thank goodness.. You still remember something... They haven't won... I'm going to send someone to fend it off, and get you out of there, okay?"
She nodded her head.
"As soon as you exit the forest, you need to find your best friend, and if you can't find him, you need to find his parents. You can't miss them! Your friend wears a-"
There was a cry, and the voice cut itself off, and she gasped as a Pokemon started to emerge from the darkness around her.
"You need to wake up! Now!"
The slumbering form of a pale skinned human was sleeping in a bed, locked within a cell that contained a Gengar that was gleefully feasting on her dreams. She had stopped screaming a long time ago, she had damaged her throat from all of the screaming that was the result of her nightmares, and now, she endured them in silence... Who knows how long it would take for her throat to heal itself, if she ever got out of there...
But the Gengar wasn't the only one watching her... Two cultists kept an eye on their prisoner, with the iron bars of her cell being the only barrier between them, and her.
One of them was typing away, on a computer, as their fellow cultist walked over to them. "So, how's she doing?" They were wearing robes that resembled Darkrai, the legendary Pokemon of Nightmares...
"She looks healthy." The one typing on the computer said. "She's been asleep for three days. She'll be waking up tomorrow... You have no idea how boring this supervision job has been. She stopped screaming a few months back, and we haven't heard a peep from her since."
"What are you planning to do with her? A girl like that looks like she couldn't hurt a fly, and her file says that she doesn't have any experience as a Trainer, I don't understand why a little kid is getting so much attention..."
"I don't know, but she's not going to remember anything when she wakes up. Persephone's properly just going to let her go... But I don't know why she's so scared of her. She's just a kid, a powerless kid who can't do anything, and she doesn't know how to fight like a Trainer."
"You know that it's not our call to make. Miss Persephone knows best... Anyway, hopefully, we'll be done within the hour... When she wakes up, she won't remember anything."
A woman walked over to them, she was dressed in the same robes as them, but her's were more elaborate than theirs, and from the way that she walked, it was clear that she was the Boss around here. "Well? How's our youngest prisoner faring?"
The cultists turned around to face her. "Miss Persephone, their memories should be completely gone within the hour." The one that had been typing on the computer said. "Everything is going as planned."
"Excellent, we shall finally fulfill our end of the bargain. Good work, you two. The ritual shall be starting in the upstairs room, will you be attending it?"
"Of course Miss, I would never miss a sacrifice."
"Very well, I'll see you upstairs."
"Miss..." The second cultist spoke up. "I have a question... After the child's memories are gone, what are you doing to do with them?"
"I'm going to kill them. I'll be expecting you two upstairs within two minutes."
"Why are we bothering to wipe their memories if we're just going to kill them later?" The second cultist asked their friend, after their boss had left.
"I don't know, but thanks for not asking that in front of her. You know how she hates to be questioned. Let's go upstairs! It's fun to see a ritual being performed."
The cultists left, leaving Gengar, and the prisoner alone, but as soon as they were long gone, the Gengar heard a strange noise.
"Mew..."
It looked around, trying to find out where the chirp came from, only to get the shock of it's undead life as Mew appeared out of nowhere to chase it away from the human that it had been using Dream Eater on. The Gengar fled, leaving the door to the cell unlocked, and open, as Mew awakened the female human in the bed.
She opened her eyes, and she looked around as that voice spoke in her head, again.
"The Gengar's gone... go... Follow Mew, get out of here, and never look back!"
She quietly climbed out of the bed, shivering when the cold air hit her bare arms, which made her look at what she was wearing. She was wearing a tattered black t-shirt dress, that was missing it's sleeves, over torn black leggings, and plain black socks. She didn't have any shoes, and she could barely see anything, she could barely see Mew until it was right in front of her.
"Mew..." The Pokemon gently tapped her cheek, and she leaned into the gentle touch. She opened her mouth, and she tried to speak, only for her throat to burst into pain, and she whimpered... She looked around, and she tried to see if they were being watched, but she could only see the shadows around them...
Shadows... Thinking about them triggered something... A memory?
"You're my little Shadow, aren't you?"
Shadow... Was that her name... No, it didn't feel like it was her name, but for now, it was something that she could use as a name...
She took a deep breath, and she followed Mew out of her cell, it was time for her to leave this place, and find out who she was.
Okay, so as you can see here, the damage done to the main character is pretty bad, she's lost her name, thanks to the Gengar feasting on her memories, and her voice, because in the beginning, she used to scream, a lot, and it damaged her voice. I'll be introducing how she'll get around that, until it heals, later.
Shadow is one of the main character's nicknames, and until she recovers her real name, this is the name that she'll be using.
