Okay, so between the last chapter, and this one, Shadow met someone named Traveller who taught her some lessons on how to survive without supplies, and towns... The meeting itself is in my friend's, Firehedgehog, story, called 'The Traveller', which can be found on A03, and Wattpad. The information that Shadow learned from Traveller will help her out later...
Shadow hummed as she walked through the town, it turned out that the Augur was a little bit late... According to the news, he had been involved in stopping a robbery, so the town had decided to set off some fireworks as a show of support to the Augur, and to buy the man some time to get to their little town.
Shadow yawned, and she adjusted the straps of the backpack that Traveller had left for her. She had found it, the picnic blanket that they had used, and a sleeping blanket that he had to have left for her... She hoped that she would see him again, one day... She hoped that when it did happen, she could talk to him, with her own voice, instead of using the device to speak for her.
She didn't know the name of the song that she was humming, but it was so familiar, like she had heard it before, a long time ago...
She was walking towards the town hall, and she knocked on the main door, before she opened it, and she entered it. She saw that there was a group of older humans in the building, and one of them was the silver haired kid from yesterday, and he was talking to two older humans. Who were they?
"I've finished cleaning up the road, is there anything else that I can do?" Damian had this bright look in his eyes... It made him look like a puppy, and Shadow tilted her head as he turned around, and he saw her. "Oh, this is Shadow. I met them outside, yesterday, and they offered to help too!"
Shadow silently growled, and she started to type on her device. "No, I didn't! You just assumed that I was here to help you! You ignored the fact that my clothes were rags, and that my hair seriously needed some help! You didn't even offer me any help, you just ran off, and you left me there, after I told you that I couldn't speak, and you ranted about this Augur guy! I had to find the Pokemon Centre on my own!"
The older male frowned. "Damian... You should apologise to the young lady! I understand that you were excited about the Augur's visit to our small town, but that was no excuse to ignore the fact that this young lady clearly needed help when you met her!"
"I'm sorry..." Damian mumbled, while Shadow just nodded her head, accepting the apology without saying anything.
"Now then..." The older male continued. "I think that we're pretty well finished, as long as you have your gift for the Augur ready, I think that you're done." He turned to Damian. "You do have your gift, right?"
"Oh..." Damian started to shuffle his feet. "Well... um.. I may have... forgotten."
"Of course you have..." The older male sighed. "You better find one, and fast. I heard that you could find a Rare Stone in one of the caves in the forest, and of course, you'd need a Pokemon to get through the forest safely..."
"No, absolutely not!" The older female shouted, making the older male turn around to face her. "Not a chance! Damian is not ready to get a Pokemon! He's still just a child!"
"Mom, please!" Damian started to beg, and Shadow blinked, as a small piece of information emerged from the fog in her head. Mom... That was what you called your female parent... And a parent was someone that raised you, and taught you things... This woman was Damian's mother... Which made the older male his Dad... These were his parents...
"Everyone else in the town already got theirs and have left!" Damian yelled.
"And you're not going to follow them!" His mother yelled. "You'll get yourself killed!"
"Why do you care? It's not like you're my real mother or anything..."
It was like a tennis match... 'What's a tennis match?' Shadow thought as she watched them yell at each other.
"I have raised you since birth! You're not capable of raising a plant, let alone a Pokemon! You're irresponsible, antisocial, and you can't even-"
"That's ENOUGH out of you two!" Damian's father yelled. "You're embarrassing us." He turned out to look at Shadow. "Shadow, that's your name, right?"
Shadow nodded her head... Well, she wasn't lying, that was her name, until she remembered her real name...
"You look like the kind of girl that knows how to handle a Pokemon." He said. "We'll lend one to you, and one to Damian. Would you be willing to help him through the forest, to the cave, to help him find a gift for the Augur?"
"Do I have to find a gift for him too?" Shadow asked them. "I just got here, and I don't even know what an Augur is... I'm not from this Town..."
"Oh, don't worry about that!" Damian's mother said. "You're clearly not from around here, and this isn't the first time that a trainer from another town, or even a city, visited us during the festival! You're obviously from another Region, or you've spent a lot of time in another region. You shouldn't worry about that, it's not the first time that someone couldn't give a gift to the Augur during the festival, because of the fact that they are a travelling Trainer, and they arrived during that part of the festival. Most travelling Trainers leave a small donation of money for the Augur, if that happens, or they help clean up the Town, after the festival. If you stay after the festival, and you help us clean up, then I think that will be fine."
"Okay! I'll help him!" Shadow told Damian's father.
"That's wonderful!" He said. "I'm very grateful... So, it's settled then. Shadow will help Damian to get a gift for the Augur, and if Damian shows responsibility, perhaps he can keep the Pokemon afterwards." He turned to look at his wife, Damian's mother. "Well, how does that sound?"
"That's fine." His wife said. "He won't though..."
"Shadow, let's go!" Damian yelled. "I'll meet you in the Professor's Lab to get an Eevee! She had a bunch of Eevee from her days as a trainer. The Lab is in the Southeast corner of the town! I'll see you there."
As Damian started to walk away, he was muttering to himself, and then, he turned around to look at Shadow. "Hey... Shadow, thanks for agreeing to do this with me. It really means a lot to me."
Damian left the Town Hall, and Shadow sighed... Just, what was she getting herself into?
'I really hope that I don't screw this up...'
Shadow blinked, when she entered the Lab, with Damian following her, to see a blue haired woman, in a white lab coat, talking to a man that was wearing a black fedora.
"Listen, Professor..." He said. "These Pokemon... they're freaks. No other Trainer would want them, and we can't keep them any longer. All that I want is for you to take them. You already keep a bunch of Eevee as it is, surely these three won't be a bother?"
"...why do you care about them?" The Professor asked. "I know what you've done."
"It's true, I am merciless. I've done some awful things, but there's no real reason for these Pokemon to die..."
Shadow started to mess with her hands... Those poor Pokemon... And what were they talking about? Was there something special and unique about these Pokemon that they stood out from the other Pokemon of their species?
"Umm.. hello?" Damian spoke up, interrupting their conversation. "I'm Damian, and this is Shadow... We're here to get a Pokemon so that we can go into the forest safely."
The man looked at them, and then, he looked at the Professor. "Sylvan, if you don't take these Pokemon, I'll release them, and they're sure to die in the wild." He told her. "If you want, you can just give them to these kids, right?"
"Put them on the table." Sylvan told the man.
"Very well." He said, before he placed three balls on the table, and he walked towards them, excusing himself, before he left the building.
"So, you two are in need of a Pokemon?" The Professor asked them.
"Yes, ma'am." Damian said.
"I see..." The Professor sighed. "That man that was just in here, he was one of my colleagues in university. He's a smart man, and a great scientist... He's aslo the leader of the Cult of Perfection."
"A... A cult leader? Those people are evil, Professor!" Damian yelled, while Shadow shivered. Damian had no idea of how evil a cult leader could be... She had seen the Leader of the Darkrai Cult kill three of her followers... "You shouldn't be talking to them, let alone be accepting gifts from them!"
Shadow shook her head, Damian seemed to be seeing things in black and white... He didn't understand that there was shades of grey inbetween them... 'He's just a child... He doesn't understand that there is a path between light and darkness that you can take...'
The Professor started to speak to them again.
"Tell me, Damian, Shadow, have you ever heard of something called "Delta Species"?"
Shadow shook her head.
"Me neither!" Damian chirped.
"Then allow me to explain. Delta Pokemon are based on a phenomenon in the Holon Region, far away. They're Pokemon that have different DNA than normal Pokemon, but to simply explain what they are, they're Pokemon who have their typing changed. An example of this would be an Electric type Dragonite, or a Water type Porygon."
"But, can't Porygon change their typing using a move?" Shadow asked the Professor, surprising herself with her knowledge about that. Where did she learn about that?
"Yes, they can." The Professor said. "But I'm talking about an permanent change, instead of a temporary change of typing. These Pokemon on the table now are Deltas. I'm not sure what type they are, but they seem to be experiments of Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle."
The Professor walked over to the table, and she released the Deltas from their Pokeballs, and Shadow almost squealed. She quickly ran over to them, and she started to snuggle the Pokemon.
The Pokemon themselves were startled by the sudden attention from a human child, and the Bulbasaur almost ran back into it's Pokeball, but it stopped when it felt the child like emotions from the human child. It started to churr when Shadow started to scratch it, under it's chin.
Sylvan chuckled as she watched as the hot pink and blue Bulbasaur, that had a white daisy above it's left ear, and a giant royal blue bulb, the skeletal Charmander, with it's purple tail flame, and the ninja crossplaying Squirtle, with it's black and red colouring, slowly started to play with the human girl that was wearing white and black clothing, with a red scarf. The Squirtle seemed to be extremely happy with the fact that they had the same colors...
"Anyway..." Sylvan coughed, to get Shadow's attention, and she looked at the Professor, as the Deltas got comfortable on her. "They're scientific marvels. I would love to keep one to study." She smiled. "Now! Normally, I would give you an Eevee as a Pokemon to start you off, on your journey, however, it seems that there are three more options for you to choose from... So, I'll offer you this... You may choose one of these three Delta Pokemon to travel with, or the Eevee that I normally give away. If you want an Eevee, talk to me, but otherwise, take your pick..."
Damian bit his lip. "Shadow... I don't like the idea of using Pokemon made by a murderer, but I don't want to leave them alone..."
"I know what I'm going to do." Shadow told Damian. "Professor, even if I choose Eevee, can I adopt the Deltas?"
The Professor blinked. "You want to adopt the Deltas?"
Shadow nodded her head, and she stood up, carrying the Bulbasaur in her arms, while the Charmander latched onto her right leg, and the Squirtle climbed onto her shoulders. "Yes. I want all three of them. They can stay with me until they find their forever homes, a place where they want to live, or they choose to stay with me."
The Professor smiled. "Okay, come over here and pick out which Eevee you want, both of you."
The kids smiled as they chose which Eevee that they wanted, and the female Eevee that Shadow had chosen smiled, and she started to purr as she rubbed Shadow's left leg.
"I'll call you Searcher." Shadow told the Eevee, as a name burst out of the fog in her head. "Welcome to our little family."
I'm sorry if I was a bit too harsh on Damian in this chapter, but when you get out of the woods, he runs over to you, talks about Mew and the Augur, assumes that you are here to help get the town ready for the festival, and then, he runs off, without asking you if you need help. And I think, that after being a prisoner of the Darkrai cult, you really wouldn't be in the best condition, and you would need to be given a medical check up, and in the case of any character that needs prescription glasses to see properly, given a new pair of glasses so that you can see without bumping into things. And you would need new clothes too! And a bath! So, yeah, Damian does get bashed a bit, in this chapter, but he'll get better... Hopefully...
And yes, in the game, I choose Eevee, but in the story, my character adopted the three Starter Deltas too... Mainly because she knows what it's like to be alone, and abandoned... And I just don't like the fact that there isn't a way that you can adopt any of them if you choose Eevee...
