Summary: After Sheldon sees his teenage son kiss someone, Sheldon and Amy realize it's time to give their children 'the talk'.
Sheldon looked through the kitchen window as he heard a car stop in front of the house. From this angle, he had a perfect view of the vehicle and he watched as his youngest son stepped out of it, exiting through the passenger's seat.
Sheldon had initially assumed it was a friend. Which was why it came as a surprise to him when Albert leaned back into the car and the driver of the car leaned across the console and kissed him.
The angle from which Sheldon was watching made it perfectly clear that that was a kiss. But in the dim of the night, he couldn't identify who it was.
The glass in Sheldon's hand nearly slipped from his hand. He set it down on top of the rag, not looking away from the car.
"Amy!" he called; his voice having risen quite high. Albert shut the door to the car and gave a small wave before the car drove off.
When Albert turned around to walk into the house, Sheldon ducked under the sink.
Just then, Amy came down the stairs, already in her nightly attire. "Sheldon, what in the world are you doing?"
"I was washing my mug..." Sheldon said.
Amy rolled her eyes. "I meant, why are you hiding down there?"
Before Sheldon could explain, the front door opened and Albert came into the house, whistling despite Sheldon's past protests against it. Sheldon stood and, in his haste, bumped his head against the table. He winced, and so did Amy, but he managed to refrain from screaming.
Albert poked his head into the kitchen and sent them a lazy salute. "Hey, mom. Dad."
Amy checked the clock on the wall. "You're twenty minutes past your curfew." Though she hadn't really expressed concern prior to this. Among their three kids, Albert was the more rebellious sort, so coming home past curfew was not exactly an anomaly.
Albert shrugged. "The Parent-Child Agreement says I can go an hour past my curfew once a month. Also, Marie's having a sleepover, she's way past curfew."
Marie was Albert's twin sister, and he knew very well that she had asked permission from Sheldon and Amy before having that sleepover. She even wrote a permission letter a week before the sleepover, as was deemed necessary by the Parent-Child Agreement.
Sheldon, on a normal day, also would've retorted that Albert had already used the curfew clause two weeks and three days ago. However, his mind couldn't stop thinking about the fact that Albert likely had a girlfriend. Or definitely had one.
Good grief, Albert was only fifteen. Time was moving too fast.
Amy nudged him. "No rebuttals?"
"We can let him off the hook for now," Sheldon said, his throat dry. "There's something we need to talk about."
Sheldon's willingness to overlook contract semantics was definitely a glaring sign that something was bothering him. Amy knew this.
"O-kay..." she said. She looked at Albert. "Go take a shower then go to sleep."
Albert nodded and left the kitchen. The sound of his footsteps disappeared as he ascended the stairs, and once Sheldon was certain he was out of range, he turned to Amy, eyes wide.
"I just saw Albert kiss a lady," he hissed.
Amy blinked. "What?"
"I saw him kiss someone through the kitchen window. I couldn't get a good glimpse of who it was, but I am certain that he kissed her."
Amy pursed her lips then leaned against the counter. Evidently, she was much calmer than Sheldon was. Sheldon pointed this out, to which she said, "Well, he's fifteen and uses the internet without any monitoring. Don't you think we should've expected this?"
Sheldon really shouldn't have let Amy talk him out of monitoring their kids' internet activity.
"Should we give him the talk?" Sheldon asked. His father never had the opportunity to discuss any such talk with him, but he recalled Georgie telling him about how their dad gave Georgie one.
Amy smiled a little. "You know, we never had one with Leonard."
"I suppose I didn't think it would be necessary. He never expressed any interest in having coitus," Sheldon said. "Or having a girlfriend."
"Nor did you for the first thirty years of your life."
"I'll have you know that I did have a crush when I was younger."
Amy laughed. "Was it a crush on the person's intellect?"
Sheldon crossed his arms. "Yes."
"The point is, neither of us have had any experience in giving the talk to anyone. Nor have we received one before." Amy paused, then corrected herself. "Well, I've received one, but it was too vulgar and threatening to be appropriate for our children."
Sheldon huffed. "Well, there's only one person we can ask for help, really."
"You're kidding me, right?" Penny said, pouring herself another shot. "Why am I going to give him the talk? He's not my son."
Sheldon scooted forward on his chair. "Neither Amy nor I know how to broach the subject. You, on the other hand, are an expert."
"He's not wrong," Leonard said, a small laugh escaping him as he took a sip of wine.
"Listen, all you have to emphasize is that they should use a condom and that consent is a must. Safety first." Penny tilted her head. "The pre-marital thing is not an issue, is it?"
Amy shook her head. "Of course not. We'd be hypocrites to make that an issue."
"Okay, then, there you go. Safety first. Oh! And get tested, just in case."
Sheldon looked down at his food. "That's it?" It seemed too simple.
Penny shrugged. "Well, he's fifteen. If anything, he already knows all these things and you're just there to remind him."
"I have to admit, I am a little uncomfortable at the idea that he's dating someone," Sheldon said. "Not because of the prospect of him having coitus, but rather I fear that he might lose his focus on his studies."
Amy frowned. "Sheldon, Albert's smart. He's going to be fine."
"A social life will do him good," Penny said. "Don't you wish that you had friends when you were a kid?"
"I did have one." And that had been more than enough. Sheldon shook his head. "Regardless, friendships are much less distracting than romantic relationships are."
Leonard leaned back on his chair. "Oh, come on, that's not entirely true."
"Sheldon," Amy said, putting a hand on Sheldon's thigh. "We won a Nobel Prize, remember? We managed that together and being married didn't distract us at all."
She had a point (as she often did), but it did little to make Sheldon feel better. "That's because you're as smart as I am. We know nothing about the person that Albert is dating."
"Get to know her, then," Penny said. "Have the talk with Albert then tell him to bring the girl over for dinner, if they're serious."
"If?" Sheldon shifted uncomfortably. He didn't like the idea of his son going around kissing people for fun. Kissing was unhygienic enough as it was, doing it with multiple people more so. "They must be serious if he's already kissing her."
"Hey, some of us enjoyed one-night stands," Penny told him.
"And some of them settle down eventually," Leonard said with a smile, nudging Penny's shoulder. To this, he received a scoff.
"We need to talk to him," Sheldon said. The longer they didn't, the more his mind came up with terrible scenarios. What if he got her pregnant? What if she had a Sexually Transmitted Disease? What if they eloped? What if—
A hand began to massage his back. Amy. "Breathe," she murmured, and only then did he realize that he'd been hyperventilating. "We'll figure this out. It's okay."
"You guys got this," Penny assured. "Albert's a great kid."
Sheldon swallowed, managing to nod. Amy squeezed his shoulder then turned to Penny and Leonard. "So, how's Elliott doing?" she asked, changing the topic for Sheldon's sake.
"Oh! He finally got his driver's license," Leonard said, and that was certainly a proud smile on his face.
"After the fifteenth time," Penny muttered.
"At least it's only half the number of tries it took Sheldon."
Sheldon looked up from his whiteboard to process what Amy had just said. Albert and Marie were coming home about an hour, and they were discussing how they would approach the sex and relationships topic while they contemplated the Baryon Asymmetry. "You want me to discuss it with Albert alone?"
"It might make him more comfortable if only one parent's discussing it." Amy handed him a whiteboard eraser, pointing to the spot where he'd made a careless mistake. "You discuss it with Albert, and I'll discuss it with Marie."
"But why would you discuss it with Marie? She doesn't have a boyfriend yet."
"They're the same age. It's about time we talk to them about it."
Sheldon nodded. He glanced at the board. "What if we mediated the dominant decay mode with a heavy boson?"
Amy pursed her lips. "Oh, that could work. We'd have to assure that the mode is in a three-body final state, then we could say that—"
"Doesn't it bother you?" Sheldon finally asked, cutting off Amy's train of thought. It wasn't usual for him to ignore scientific discussions in favor of other topics, but this was something that troubled him more than the ratio of antimatter to matter.
Amy frowned at him. "Doesn't what bother me?"
"Marie is already in college. Meanwhile, Albert is…"
"Still in high school, you mean?"
Sheldon closed his eyes, nodding. "That's a horrible thing to say, isn't it?"
"You know, I only accelerated for one year. I didn't graduate high school at eleven. You were a child prodigy; the same way Leonard is. But in the long run, that doesn't make me any less successful than you."
"I suppose you have a point," Sheldon said. "But he could probably accelerate if he'd just focus more—"
"Our children's lives don't have to revolve around science if they don't want it to, Sheldon," she said.
Sheldon furrowed his eyebrows. Technically speaking, he knew that there was truth to this. Perhaps he should stop thinking of his children as simply younger versions of him and Amy. "I just thought that all of our kids would end up graduating early and then become researchers."
"It's okay to have expectations," Amy assured him, "but if they're not met, it doesn't make them a failure. Albert excels at things that Marie and Leonard don't. He excels at things that you don't. He might not be graduating high school early, but he's in the football team. That's something you definitely wouldn't have been able to do before."
"Or now," Sheldon admitted. He was no athlete, that was certain. He walked over to his wife and gave her a kiss on the cheek. "Thank you. That was helpful."
Amy smiled. "I love you."
"I love you too."
"Good. Then you can't get mad at me for suggesting that you've made a mistake."
Sheldon whipped his head back to the whiteboard, eyes wide. "What?"
"The integration should be from zero to Z sub B not Z sub A."
"I—" Sheldon groaned and grumpily picked up the whiteboard marker to scrub away his embarrassment. "This is exactly why the mind can't afford to be distracted.
When Albert came home with Marie in tow, Amy took Marie to the office to discuss her thesis so Sheldon could privately talk to Albert in the living room.
"What in the world is happening?" Albert asked when Sheldon put a folder in front of him. "Are we revising the Agreement or something?"
"No, that's not scheduled for another seven months." Sheldon pursed his lips. "There are two things I'd like to discuss with you. First, have you thought about what course you'd be taking in college?"
Albert was quiet for a moment then he shrugged. "I was thinking of going for Computer Science, actually. That or Biomedical Engineering. Or Mechanical Engineering. I'm still thinking."
Sheldon was not going to pretend he wasn't relieved that Albert was at least going for a STEM field. "Alright," he said, voice a little shaky. "That's nice to hear."
Albert furrowed his eyebrows. "You don't seem happy about that."
"No, I am. I am. Anything you want. Heck, if you wanted to take up Fine Arts, I'd still support you." At that, Sheldon's face twitched. Sure, he'd have a difficult time accepting it, but with his friends and wife, he'd learn to deal with it.
Albert snorted. "You thought I wouldn't go for a STEM field, huh?"
"Well, I simply thought—"
"Dad, I know I'm not as good as Leonard in biology, nor am I as good as Marie or you in physics. But I'm not hopeless when it comes to Science." Albert grinned. "I don't need to be a child prodigy like Marie and Leonard. I'm happy with my life."
Sheldon, oddly, felt fine with that. He didn't have any temptation to convince Albert otherwise. Although…
"Speaking of being happy with your life," said Sheldon. "That was the other thing I wished to discuss."
Albert raised an eyebrow but didn't question anything yet.
"The other night I saw you kissing someone," Sheldon said, "and while it took years before your mom and I ever went from kissing to coitus—"
"Oh my god, Dad," Albert said.
"—I understand that for most people, especially teenagers like yourself, the process may be accelerated. Now, I have no problem with you engaging in coitus—"
"Dad, if you say coitus one more time, I'm going to scream."
Sheldon rolled his eyes. "I just need you to understand that safety is important. The usage of condoms and birth control is non-negotiable, no matter how pleasurable the lack of it may feel for you. And prior to engaging in coitus, you and your girlfriend must get tested for possible sexually transmitted diseases."
Albert huffed out a laugh, but it sounded more horrified than humorous. Sheldon couldn't be sure. "Jesus Christ," Albert muttered, burying his face in his hands. "I don't need the talk, Dad, I really don't."
"Oh, and consent!" Sheldon said, because no matter what his son said, he needed to hear this. "Consent is extremely important. In fact, this is an extremely litigious society, so I have done you a favor and written up a template for a relationship contract for you." Sheldon patted the folder. "This way, you can assure that consent has been established between you and your girlfriend."
"You made a—" Albert looked at the folder and laughed. "Okay, I can't say I'm surprised. But before I, uh, take this contract, there's something else you need to know."
Sheldon nodded. "What is it?"
"Well…" Albert shifted in his seat and bit his lip. "I don't have a girlfriend."
Sheldon blinked, confused. "So who were you kissing?"
"I don't have a girlfriend, but I do have a boyfriend." Albert's cheeks turned red, and he looked down at his lap. "I'm gay."
"Oh." Sheldon looked at the folder on the table. He was going to have to print a new Relationship Agreement for Albert with all the pronouns changed to he/him.
Other than that, though…
"Well, I'm relieved to hear that," Sheldon said.
Albert balked, looking up at Sheldon quickly. "What?"
"This way we can be sure that there won't be any pregnancy scares."
Albert stared at him for a few seconds, then his face split into a grin. "Fuck, Dad, you're the best."
Sheldon wasn't really sure what warranted that observation. He continued, "However, I still stand by condom use and getting tested first because STDs are still—"
"I understood that the first time you said it," Albert rushed out. He dove forward and wrapped his arms around Sheldon. "I love you, Dad. And thank you."
Sheldon never opposed to show any affection with his children, so he hugged back without complaint. However, he still didn't understand what warranted such an emotional reaction. He became even more confused when he felt his shirt become damp. Albert was crying on his shoulder.
"You have no idea how good it feels," Albert mumbled. "For a year, I couldn't figure out how to tell you."
Sheldon frowned. "That you have a boyfriend?"
Albert pulled away and wiped his eyes with the back of his hand. "No, I've only had a boyfriend for two months. I'm talking about telling you I'm gay."
"I didn't realize that this would be a difficult topic for you to bring up with me," Sheldon said. "Have you talked to Amy about this?"
"No. I was going trying to find a way to tell both of you at the same time, but you've always… I was always scared of what you'd think."
Sheldon wondered what he'd done to make Albert think he'd have a visceral reaction to his son being gay. "Do I strike you as homophobic?"
"You grew up in Texas in the 80's, I didn't know what you thought of gay people at all."
"You do realize that beyond religious belief, homophobia does not have a reason to exist, and since we've already established since your birth that I do not wish to partake in any religion, you could have inferred that my outlook on homosexuals is no different than my outlook on heterosexuals."
Albert smiled. "Well, Marie did say the same thing. I guess I was just scared."
"Well, there was no reason to be." Sheldon stood up and grabbed the folder. "Now, I am going to write up a new Relationship Agreement for you and your boyfriend, and you are going to go tell your mother about him while I do so."
"Wait, you want me to tell her right now?"
"Well, she and I are going to discuss this boy at some point, and you know I can't keep a secret. Especially not from her."
Albert stood too. "Oh, okay."
"And we're going to want to meet this boy soon." Sheldon huffed. "Two months of dating and we know nothing about him."
"His name is Kyle."
Sheldon nodded and pointed a finger at Albert. "Bring him for dinner on Saturday."
"Aye, aye," Albert said, giving Sheldon a lazy salute before walking off towards Amy's office.
"Actually," Sheldon called out before Albert could knock, "you might want to wait until they exit the office."
"Why?"
"Well, Amy is also giving Marie the… talk. I suppose you're welcome to join if you wish to."
Albert took a step back, hands in the air. "No, thank you. I'll just wait out here."
"I can't believe our son has a boyfriend," Amy said as they laid in bed that night, side-by-side.
"I know. I had to take out the birth control clause in their contract, which messed up the alignment of the last few pages." Sheldon yawned. "At least that's finished."
"You wrote him a contract?"
"Yes, to give to Kyle. It's romantic."
"For us, maybe, but I don't know if Kyle would…" Amy trailed off then rested her hand on top of Sheldon's waist. "Nevermind. I'm glad you're taking this well."
Sheldon shifted around so he was facing Amy this time. "Are you talking about his homosexuality? Why does everyone assume I'd take issue with that?"
"No, no." Amy cupped his face. "I know that doesn't bother you. I'm just talking about the fact that he's dating. This is the first time one of our kids will bring home a partner, I honestly expected you to freak out more."
"Well, I was. But you pointed out that we made each other better, and I see no disadvantage in engaging in a romantic and sexual relationship with you, so I suppose there's a chance that this will be good for Albert."
Sheldon smiled then quickly added, "Of course, there's also a chance that Kyle is a juvenile delinquent, but we'll find out tomorrow."
"Mom, there's no more ink!" Marie yelled, shaking the marker in the air. "Where's the spare? I'm going to lose my train of thought."
"Sheldon, where did all the markers go?" Amy shouted after going to check on the drawer full of their whiteboard markers.
Sheldon looked up from his Captain America #921 and processed the question for two seconds before closing his comic book. "My apologies, I left it in our room." Marie was bounding up the stairs to said room right after he finished his sentence.
Amy frowned. "What were you using it for?"
"I was trying to see how high I could stack them."
Just then, the doorbell rang, and Amy went to answer it. Sheldon stood up, though he took his time in putting his comic book back in its bag before going to the entrance. Albert was already there with a boy standing next to him.
"Good evening, Mr. and Mrs. Cooper," Kyle said with a small nod, "I'm Kyle Young."
Sheldon frowned immediately. "That's Dr. Cooper and Dr. Fowler to you."
Albert gave him a look that Sheldon couldn't discern. "Dad," he hissed.
Kyle's cheeks turned red, and he scratched the back of his neck. "Shi—iz, sorry. Dr. Cooper and Dr. Fowler, it's nice to meet you."
"We're glad you could come, Kyle," Amy said, giving Sheldon a nudge on the shoulder. "Come on in."
"Now, hang on," Sheldon said, "we barely know anything about you, you can't just come in."
"Dad," Albert repeated at the same time Amy said Sheldon in a tone that appeared to be exasperated. He turned to his boyfriend. "I'm sorry, we—"
"No, it's okay," Kyle said. "You can ask me anything you want to, Dr. Cooper."
"Alright, I have a few questions." Sheldon crossed his arms to appear more intimidating, though in hindsight he should've invited Penny here for that. "How old are you? Where were you born? Where did you grow up? Do you have any siblings? What was your grade point average last semester? What do you plan to study in college? Which college do you plan to go to? Have you had any girlfriends or boyfriends prior to Albert? If so, did you have coitus with any of them? If so, did you take any tests to check if you gained any STDs? If so, were your test results positive or negative? On that note, have you engaged in any coitus with Albert?"
"Um." Kyle opened his mouth, closed it, opened it again, then closed it. He took a deep breath. "Well, I'm sixteen. I was born in Taiwan, but my parents moved here when I was one. I have an older sister. I don't have STDs, Albert is the first person I've ever dated, and I forgot your other questions."
Sheldon clicked his tongue, unimpressed. He opened his mouth to reiterate all his questions again, but Amy raised her hand.
"Alright, in we go," Amy said, pushing Sheldon back towards the hall. "Albert, why don't you bring Kyle to the living room? I just need to talk to Sheldon."
Sheldon was certain he saw Albert mouth a thank you to Amy, but he wasn't too sure about that.
"Why did you interrupt?" Sheldon asked once Albert and Kyle were gone.
Amy sighed. "Sheldon, I thought you were okay with Albert and Kyle dating?"
"I am okay with dating in principle, but I can't say I completely approve of it until I get to know Kyle. Which I won't be able to do now since you let him walk away without answering all my questions.
"You're not going to get to know him any better by interrogating him. You're just going to scare him off."
Sheldon tilted his head, not seeing the problem. "I read that it's a father's job to scare their child's suitors."
"It's an intimidation tactic so to ensure that the suitor won't hurt their child, but you don't send the kid running for the hills."
Sheldon's lips twisted. "I understand the latter was an idiom, but I am not clear on what it means."
"Okay, how about this. You can ask your questions, but one at a time. Give him time to answer and elaborate."
Sheldon thought about this for a moment then nodded. "I suppose that's fair."
They walked back into the living room where Marie was still solving on the large whiteboard on the wall while Albert and Kyle looked at some photographs, medals, and magazine clippings that were hung around.
"What's she working on?" Kyle said softly, tilting his head towards Marie.
Albert shrugged. "I have no idea. Oy, Mar, what're you doing?"
Marie didn't let go of her marker. "Can't talk. I'm in the zone."
Amy snorted, leaning into Sheldon's chest. "She's taking after you."
Sheldon smiled. "I know. It's wonderful." He glanced over the board to read what Marie wrote then looked at Kyle. "She's trying create a method to calculate thermal entanglement in a 2 by 3 Heisenberg chain. What about you, Kyle? What is it that you like to do in your free time?"
"Oh, I play drums."
Sheldon raised his eyebrows. "Jazz?"
"No."
"Good answer. What do you play?"
"I'm a big fan of Rock N' Roll."
Sheldon blinked. That wasn't much better than Jazz. "Rock N'—are you serious? That's the kind of thing Georgie likes."
"Sheldon," Amy said next to him.
Sheldon grit his teeth but dropped the subject. "Fine. What do you plan to take in college?"
"Medical Technology," said Kyle, "or a different pre-med course."
"So, you intend to become a doctor?" Sheldon asked. His son, Leonard, was currently a doctor and he had been a Harvard graduate, so that was certainly something to be proud of.
Kyle nodded. "Yes, sir."
Sheldon stared at him for a few seconds then nodded as well. "Alright, I can accept that." He felt much more at ease now, with most of his urgent questions answered.
To his left, there was a loud gasp and Marie raised her hands in the air. "I got it!" She threw the marker on the chair and looked at Amy. "I'll go write a pa—"
"Absolutely not," Amy said. "You're going to have dinner with your family and play during game night. Then you can write your paper."
"Also, you might want to let the math simmer in your brain in case you made a careless mistake," Sheldon added. He knew from experience that rushing to write the paper tended to result in a mistake or two in the equation that was overlooked by one's excitement.
Marie frowned, looking between Sheldon and the whiteboard. "Does it look wrong?"
Not at all. Sheldon sighed. "Well, not at first glance, no."
"Dinner first," Amy repeated, and there was no more arguing with her after that.
After dinner, Sheldon helped Amy wash the dishes before they all gathered back in the living room for game night, as was scheduled in the Parent-Child Agreement for every second Saturday of the month.
"I should warn you," Sheldon heard Albert whisper to Kyle, "our family isn't really the Pictionary type."
"We play Pictionary when Penny's here," Sheldon said.
Kyle gave them a slow, rather awkward nod, then sat on the couch. Right in Sheldon's spot.
At the same time, everyone yelled No! so loud that he sprang out of the couch and nearly fell onto the comic books on the table. Sheldon snatched them out of the way in time.
"Only Dad gets to sit there," Albert explained.
Kyle glanced back at the spot then looked at Sheldon. "Oh, I'm sorry, Dr. Cooper. I didn't realize."
The apology came quick enough that Sheldon found himself liking this kid more and more. "It's quite alright."
Albert sat in the middle of the couch and Kyle slowly sat next to him, diametrically opposed to Sheldon's spot. Albert then leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "So, what are we playing tonight?"
"We'll have an Integration Bee," Sheldon said. It was inspired by the MIT Integration Bee Howard told him about in the past, but he wasn't ever going to admit that allowed. "I think that integration is easy enough for high school students but can be made challenging enough for college graduates."
Albert folded his arms. "Dad, we're not even learning calculus this year yet. We're still at—"
"No, it's okay," Kyle interrupted with a brief smile. "I know how to integrate."
"I propose that Amy and Kyle be on one team and Albert and Marie be on the other," Sheldon said. "The only rule of the game is simply to solve the integral faster than your opponent. Solutions are not necessary."
When everyone agreed with the parameters of the game, Sheldon picked up a marker and approached the blank whiteboard to write the first equation. Amy and Marie stood on either side of him, markers prepared.
"Dr. Cooper, won't you participate?" Kyle asked.
"No, whoever has me on their team would have an unfair advantage. I remember the answer to every integral I have ever encountered in my life."
"Which is a lot," Albert added, as though that was something that needed to be specified.
"Amy, Marie"—Sheldon finished writing dx and turned back to his family—"find the integral."
"Done!" Amy shouted after five seconds.
Marie cursed, quickly running through the last line of her equation and saying Done as well.
Sheldon smiled at his wife and kissed her cheek. "You're brilliant. I love you."
"Dad," Marie groaned. "Is this necessary?"
Sheldon looked at her. "You get an 'I love you' from me if you can solve integrals as fast as your mother does."
Amy giggled and capped her marker. "I love you too, now let's move on to the next round."
The next round was Albert and Kyle, and Sheldon intentionally made the integral much easier than the one he had given Marie and Amy. It took a few minutes of thinking for both parties, though to Sheldon's surprise, Kyle was much closer to solving the integral than Albert was.
"Done?" Kyle said, eyebrows furrowed. Albert shouted Done! only milliseconds after, so the time disparity wasn't too big.
"Impressive," Sheldon told Kyle. "Your equation is partly correct, however; the point will go to Albert. You forgot to add plus C on the end of your equation."
Kyle groaned briefly, but after another second of staring at his answer he perked up and glanced at Sheldon. "But it's right?"
"Yes, and I am thoroughly impressed that you can keep up with Albert, intellectually speaking."
Kyle laughed. "Well, Albert's a lot better than me at programming, sir. I can't keep up with him there. But Calculus is fair game."
"But the point goes to me, right?" Albert asked, grinning.
Kyle smiled back at him. It was a fond sort of smile, a smile Sheldon often found himself directing towards Amy.
"Ha! Yes!" Albert yelled, pumping his fist in the air.
"He's so competitive," Kyle said.
"Ah, well, he takes after his mother."
Amy shot Sheldon a look. "You are so much more competitive than me and you know it."
"I refer you to the pie-eating contest of 2012."
"Leonard and Penny were more competitive than I was."
"But you were competitive than I had been, and that is what we're discussing here."
Marie leaned closer and whispered in Sheldon's ear, "You're being competitive right now."
Sheldon glared at her, but he couldn't refute that statement. She was right. Well, at least he knew raised his children right, despite their tendency to correct him.
"Enough chit-chat," he said, turning around to face the whiteboard. "Let's begin the next round, shall we?"
Albert rushed back into the house after kissing his boyfriend farewell. He went into the living room where Sheldon and Amy were cuddling and watching television.
"So, what'd you think of him?" Albert asked.
"He's legally not allowed to drive," Sheldon pointed out as the sound of Kyle's car faded into the distance.
Albert waved his hand in the air as if this was of no concern to him whatsoever. "He's tall, no one really questions it. Anyway, he only lives two streets away."
"He is actively breaking the law. That seems rather juvenile to me."
Amy snorted and lowered the volume of the television. "You're one to talk. You have several restraining orders."
Sheldon groaned and shook his head. "Why are you never on my side?"
"Come on," Albert interjected before Sheldon could continue the argument, "Kyle's great, right? He managed to solve most of the integrals you gave, Dad, what more could you want?"
"Well, I suppose he's rather smart," Sheldon mused. "Though I'd feel better knowing he was a law-abiding citizen."
"I like him," Amy said. "I hope he can come over again sometime."
Sheldon pretended to sigh, but the idea was entirely welcome to him. "Yes, but any bedroom activity should be done only if no one is in the house."
"Dad!" Albert yelled. Marie, who was sitting on the single couch as she wrote her paper, managed to chuck a pillow towards Sheldon.
Sheldon smiled, contentment washing over him as he sank further into the couch and refocused his attention to the television. "There are condoms in the top left drawer of the bathroom, should it ever be necessary."
Amy giggled and buried her face in Sheldon's chest. "Babe, you're embarrassing him."
"Goodnight!" Albert yelled, his palms over his ears in a futile attempt to block soundwaves from entering. "Dad, I never want to talk to you again!"
Sheldon began to frown, but Amy only kissed it away. "Relax, he's just joking."
Marie snickered under her breath. "And here Albert was so scared you would be repulsed by the idea of him dating Kyle."
