Sonic was meditating in front of a mountain when he heard voice "Wanna ride" "The Shinobi temple is in danger" "Sonic, you haven't gotten me a present since we first met" "You can learn what it truly means to be a Shinobi" "You didn't prepare me for this, Sonic" "There's something I need to tell you" "I know I can always count on you". Sonic then realized there was a Chaos in front of him. It stared at him before leaving. He then heard Tails behind him "I need you to do something for me" "Anything" "Take the lead on getting Sally back". Tails didn't understand "Shouldn't you be the one to do that?" "I would but I can't think clearly right now. I might make a mistake. One that could cost us" "We can do this together". Sonic stood up and turned to him "No. I'll be with you, but this has to be your plan. You lead". Tails nodded "If that's what you want" "It's what we need if we're going to save Sally. And everyone else".
Sally was at the Imperial base tied to a metal slab with Nephthys in front of her holding a pad. She presses it and Sally is suddenly electrocuted, she screamed in pain causing Nephthys to grin sadistically "You have a lovely voice, General Acorn" she then stopped. Sally panted trying to recover from the pain as Mogul entered "Has she revealed the location of the Freedom fleet?" "Oh, I haven't begun asking questions yet" she shocked Sally again. Mogul coldly turned to Sally "Then allow me" "I'll die before I tell you anything" "I imagine you will, General. Like so many of your friends in the failed attack, and so much of your family back on Emerald Hill". He then showed her he was holding her family computer "I wanted to ask you about this. I like to know the deeper meanings of the pieces I collect, and this carries much. To me, they are not merely trophies, but symbols that truly represent some of my greatest adversaries". Sally scoffed "You don't need to know what they mean, since I'll be taking that back" "From my own analysis, I have determined that the latest piece of art represents individuals important to you at some time in your life. One part I found most interesting for it seemed to refer to a brother, one who died while he was still quite young". Sally didn't say anything and looked down at the floor "I imagine it is a bittersweet memory for you". Sally glared up at him "You aren't worthy of holding that, let alone understanding it" "Of course. I do apologize. However, I'm afraid its legacy ends with you. You should take heart knowing that the works of art is at least appreciated by its new owner. Governor Nephthys, I'll leave you to complete her interrogation". Mogul left the room as Nephthys smirked "I don't care much for art" she shocked her again causing Sally to scream.
Tails was standing at the door holding his had out towards the city with his eyes closed. Tex and Wave waiting behind him "Anything?" the former asked but Wave hit his arms "Shh". Tails then opened his eyes "I know where she is. She's in the dome in Governor Nephthys office" "The administrative offices would be on the 157th level. D block" Wave said. Tex looked concerned "Okay. So how do we get past all the patrols, gun turrets and watchtowers? It's not like we can just fly in". Tails smirked "That's exactly what we'll do, on gliders". Tex sighed "I wasn't trying to give you an idea" "Mmm, no, Tails' right. The Empire's equipped to counter sophisticated weaponry and targets. They won't be looking for something low-tech like simple glider". Tex still didn't seem to like this "I don't know. If we get spotted, we're at a pretty big disadvantage". Tails pointed to the dome "Look to the south entrance, where the garbage chute is. I bet we can glide right past them and never be noticed". Tex used his binoculars to see what he was pointing at "Right. So where do we get these gliders?" "Easy. We make them" Wave answered.
After some time back at base with help from Baron, Zax and Tangle the group made three gliders out of rugs and pieces of metal from the Extreme gear board "I'll let Sonic know we're ready" Tails said when "I know". They all turned and saw Sonic no longer wearing his black outfit, he had his white gloves and red shoes again. Tails smirked at Sonic who looked to the others "Let's go get Sally".
The group were now getting ready with Tails and Wave now dressed as Imperial pilots. Tex grunted making Sonic glance at him "What's the matter?" "It's probably good you can't see this flying contraption. This is one of those times I'm glad the Force is with you", Sonic chuckled. Sonic, Wave and Tails then held onto one of the gliders each. G-merl hooked them all up to a cable and then stood on the back of a board. Tex then got on the front of it, "Ready?" Tails asked and Tex nodded. "Go!", Tex raced forward at high speeds. The gliders followed it at began to rise up above the ground. Tails then unhooked the cable and they headed for the city "Go get her. Bring her back!" Tex yelled after them.
Mogul was in his office back on the Scarship speaking to a hologram of Finitevus "Your TIE defender program is at risk. Hamlin has been quite persuasive about diverting funding to his own project, Stardust". Mogul didn't look worried "The Emperor has assured me that he supports my project" "In my view, Director Hamlin's project has been nothing but expenses and excuses for years on end. If construction of the defender is to continue, you must make your case directly to the Emperor himself. I have already arranged the meeting". Mogul nodded "I'll leave immediately, Moff Finitevus". He ended the call and then pressed a button on his desk "Commander, inform Governor Nephthys I'm departing for Mobotropolis. As soon as you have your course, make the jump into hyperspace". Not long after the Scarship made the jump.
The trio eventually made it to a platform on the side of the dome "No alarms. So far so good" Tails said. Sonic smiled "People never pay enough attention to the world around them" "Good thing you taught me otherwise" "You're a good listener. It served you here and it will serve you again in the future". Tails didn't understand "What do you mean?". Wave stood up "I hate to break up the moment, but we got to keep moving". She handed Sonic two discs with handles "Magnetic climbers. They'll stick to the dome's surface" "Perfect, thank you". Tails looked over the platform "Okay, Nephthys office is about six levels down. Sally should be-" "I know where she is" "Alright. We'll get the ship. Signal us when you're ready". Sonic walked to the edge of the platform but then looked back "Sonic, Wave. May the Force be with you". Sonic jumped over the edge and stared climbing down the wall. Eventually goes past a window but then feels something. He climbs back up and presses his hand against the glass.
The slab Sally was on was now horizontal position and Nephthys stood in front of her "Since you're unwilling to tell me the location of Freedom Fighter fleet, perhaps the Imperia mind probe will be more persuasive. Let's begin". A small robot with a syringe injects Sally causing her to groan. The slab turned back up "Now, you will tell me the location of the fleet". Sally stared up aimlessly at the ceiling, she began to slur "They're in the… In the" "Where are the Freedom Fighters?". Sally could barley focus, she could have sworn she saw Sonic climb past the window "Huh. Sonic's here". Nephthys turned to the window and saw nothing, she sighed "You're delusional, my dear. Perhaps I pushed you too far". Reala and two stormtroopers entered "I need to speak with you, Governor". Nephthys held Sally's face "I'll just be a moment" she left the room with Reala. Sally looked to the two troopers "I'm gonna be honest with you two. You're in terrible danger" she laughed "I wonder how he's gonna get in". Suddenly a blue lightsaber cut through the floor around one of the troopers "Huh?" he said before he fell through. Sally chuckled "Ah. I thought he's come through the window".
Sonic jumped through; the other trooper tried to run "This is LS-261. We're under attack!". Sonic then grabbed him with the Force and threw him out of the window. Sonic then cut the mind probe in half and kicked the pieces out of the hole. Sally grinned "That robot really deserved that". Sonic destroyed the door control panel sealing it before running over to Sally and releasing her "Sorry, I guess I'm a little late" "I forgive you". She fell forward and Sonic caught her "Oh! I see. We're in a special mood thanks to the interrogation robot" "Well I didn't like that robot, Sonic" "No, I didn't like that robot either". He helped her to the window when "Wait. Wait. I have to tell you something" she looked into is eyes "I… I hated that ninja outfit". Sonic gave a slight chuckle "I don't exactly know what it looked like" "You still haven't aged since we first met". Sonic warmly smiled "That reminds me, I brought you a present" "A present? Sonic you haven't gotten me a present since we first met" "I know, but you'll like this one". He took out the computer containing the Acorn family records. Sally took it "Oh. Sonic… This is mine" "I know" "Then it's not really a present". They suddenly heard a crackling voice from behind the door "Party's over. Let's go!". Sally got on Sonic's back and he started climbing up the dome. Eventually Nephthys and Reala broke back into the room with two death troopers and saw that Sally was gone. Reala could smell them and climbed out of the window. Nephthys turned to one of the troopers "They have infiltrated the base. Lock down the facility and scramble the gunships! Kill on sight!".
Tails and Wave made it to a platform filled with gunships as they heard an alarm wailing "Well, I guess Sonic got Sally out" "I'm flying" Wave responded. They walked up to the gunship, Wave went over to the pilot "Hey, you've been reassigned" "I wasn't informed" "Come on, I'll show you the orders". Wave led him away as Tails entered the ship with four troopers "Aren't you the co-pilot?" one of them asked. Tails shrugged "I'm the backup pilot, so I'm here, in the back". Wave came back alone and got in the cockpit "Prepare for take-off".
Reala was climbing up the side of the dome and saw Sonic ahead of him. Sally meanwhile was smiling "I knew you'd come. I'm not letting you go this time" "I hope not. It's a long way down". He made it back to the platform where the gliders were waiting. Sonic took a moment to catch his breath as Sally fell on her back "You've always been there for me. Whenever I needed you" "Well, that's the job, isn't it?". Sally stood up "No, that is not what I'm saying. Whoa!" she stumbled over the edge of the platform, but Sonic quickly caught her "What are you saying?". Sally then looked behind him "Whoa, did you fly those things?". Sonic turned around and then looked slightly embarrassed "Yeah. The kids came up with that one" "Not bad" "With any luck, Tails and Wave are finding us a better ride". Sally looked disappointed "Oh, I kind of wanted to try those" "You would". Sally examined the gliders when Sonic suddenly looked serious "Sally. There's something I need to tell you". Before he could say it Reala jumped up and fired on Sonic who quickly ignited his lightsaber. Reala then lunged forward with an electric staff and the two fought. Reala managed to hit the lightsaber out of Sonic's hand and off the platform. He then charged but Sonic quickly used the Force to throw him off. Stormtroopers then fired down on them. Sally grabbed a pistol Reala dropped and shot one of the troopers before handing it to Sonic "Try this". As Sonic shot up at the trooper Sally pulled one of the gliders to the edge of the platform "Time to go". Sonic shot another trooper before following her "We go together. You fly" "Of course". They both lied on the glider and flew away from the dome. Reala was holding onto the side of a wall watching them. The wing of the glider then got hit lighting it on fire. "Keep us in the air as long as you can" "What choice do I have?" "That's the sprit. Can you get us to the fuel depot?". Sally nodded "I'll try but we're losing altitude fast".
Nephthys was now on the ground when her commlink activated "Governor, the Freedom Fighters are headed for the fuel depot" "I'll mobilize walkers. We'll trap them there".
Sally and Sonic were almost at the fuel depot "This is gonna be close" "It always is". They hit the ground inside the depot, Sonic got up and groaned "That was one of your better crashes" "Sonic the Hedgehog, you know I never crash. I have very-" "Very exciting landings. Thanks for reminding me. Come on".
Wave was flying the gunship when she heard Sonic on the commlink "Naka-Five, did you get us that ship?" "Sonic, did you get her" "Of course he did" Sally answered. "Yes!" Tails yelled causing the troopers to stare at him "Yes. Isn't flying great?". Sonic continued his message "Change of plans. We need a pickup-" "In the fuel depot, I know. The Empire does too" "Well, let's hope you get to us first. We'll be on top of the central fuel pod". Wave took off her helmet "Naka-Six, you're gonna want to hang on". Tails held onto a handle above him "Sorry, guys, this is where you get". Wave turned the ship to its side ad all the troopers fell out. She then fired on two gunships in front of them.
Sally and Sonic made it to the top of a massive spherical fuel pod. Sonic ran ahead and made sure nothing was coming but Sally then caught up "Sonic". Sonic turned to her, "I know what to say now… I love you". Sonic gave an awkward chuckle and looked away "Must be the truth serum talking" "No". She stood in front of him and smiled warmly "It's me. All me". She cupped his face with her hands and kissed him. The two smiled at one another when the light of a gunship shined down on them. It turned to the side and they saw Tails waving at them "Hey enough of that. Time to go!". It lowered to let them on. They didn't realize that a group of walkers with Nephthys in one of them heading to the depot "Target that fuel pod! Now!" "But, ma'am, the fuel" "I gave you a direct order". The walker fired which Sonic heard as he helped Sally onto the gunship. He ran forward as the pod began to explode. Sally and Tails watched as Sonic managed to use the Force to hold back the blast fire. "SONIC!" Sally yelled as she ran towards him, but Sonic used one of his hands to hold her back. Sally still tried to reach out to him, but he pushed her back to the ship where Tails caught her. They both watched Sonic turn his head to them. His eyes stared in their direction when they suddenly cleared and were back to their normal green state. Sonic and Sally stared directly at each other before he suddenly raised both his hands with his eyes closed and he pushed the gunship away just before the fire consumed him. The pod then exploded in a massive ball of fire; Tails was just able to signal a crying Wave to fly them away as Sally was staring in shock at where the pod was. The explosion spread to the other pods igniting them as well as the ship just got out of range.
