Prologue

"Ok, so I think I get it now." Steven said sitting on the edge of the rocks at the lagoon. "I can form a tail like you guys now."

'Yes'

"I can form it at will like Yellow and can breath under water."

'Correct'

"But I don't have a time limit like you guys to return to the sea."

"Were pretty sure you don't." Bella said from the water.

"But that's why we camped out here last night." Yvette said ruffling her nephews hair "Just in case we were wrong we wanted to be close to them all to help you."

"This is so cool Steven." Connie said leaning into her best friend "How do you feel?"

How did he feel? Steven wasn't sure. Currently he was sitting on the same rock he did when he first met all the Aquatics around him. They had a big blanket pail set up against the back wall where him, Connie, Yellow, and Yvette had slept for the night. The pod, Bella included, had settled at the bottom of the lagoon and took turns checking up on them. Predictably Pearl wasn't allowed to do anything other then sleep. It had taken a lot out of the both of them, and a bit out of the heart, to bring them back and they needed to rest and recover. Jasper had made it her personal goal to get her Companion to sleep. She was glued to her side and ended up staying up almost the whole night making sure the smaller had slept.

Also during the night at some point Bismuth had left an no-one really stopped her. Everything aside, she was still out-casted and wasn't welcomed among them all. The ones on land didn't know about the banished mermaid and Bella, along with Yvette, understood she wasn't with the pod. They didn't ask why she was out-cased but at this time, it didn't really matter. The Guardian's wouldn't admit it out of pride but they were more at ease with her leaving on her own. There were a lot of unanswered questions that needed to come to light but for now they were at peace. The ocean was back in tune and the sea was living once again.

"I feel fine." Steven said shrugging his shoulders as he crawled over to the waters edge and looked at it "I feel more connected to the ocean now and stuff though."

"It's going to be something to adjust too." Bella said moving a bit to the side for Steven to stick his feet in the water. "But that will be for another time."

"Yes Steven, I can here both your parents nd Greg coming across the sand." Yvette said looking up at the entrance "Will pack up and meet you up top."

"Don't take too long." Bella said pulling herself out of the water and throwing a dress on her wife offered as her legs formed "We have a lot to talk to your father about."

"Ok." Steven smiled up at his aunt as she ruffled his hair before helping Yvette pack up all the stuff they brought. Yellow and Connie followed after the pair and soon it was just the pod and Steven left. "Are you guys going to be ok?"

"Yea, we should be fine." Amethyst said coming up and rested her arms on the rock, head on them.

"I'm sorry my aunt was terrible to you all." Steven said as Blue and Peridot came up to him. Garnet, Sapphire, and Ruby lounged on rocks near by where Jasper and Pearl sat up on some rock a few feet to Steven's left. Lapis and Peridot lounged further back with Blue watching the pair walk up and out of the lagoon.

"It's not your fault Steven." Garnet said "She can't hurt you anymore."

"Dose this mean it is safer for me to call you all?" He asked looking hopeful at them.

"Of course bud." Amethyst said leaning up on her hands to ruffle his hair "You can use the shell to call us whenever you need."

"Or whistle like we taught you." Lapis said "That would be the safer bet. The shell is more for warning calls."

"Like calls for help and such." Peridot added.

"Or you can come to us." Blue said softly.

"How would I do that?" Steven said "I've only been to your home once."

'The sea is our home' Jasper clicked before looking around 'We should head ou though'

"Aww really?" Steven whined.

"The ocean is still a dangerous place for us" Garnet said as they all started to slip into the water. "As is the land."

'All you have to do is follow the pull' Pearl clicked. As the pod submerged one by one she turned and took the boys face in her hands gently 'If you ever need to find us just follow the pull. When you form your tail you will feel a small peace of you getting pulled out to sea. The further you go the stronger the pull will become'

"Is it the heart?" He asked with stars in his eyes.

'Yes' Pearl's smile reached her eyes 'The heart will call you home. No matter where you are or how lost you become the heart will guide you to it and in turn to all of us' She leaned forward and kissed his head before touching her forehead to his lightly 'We will never be far when you ned us. All you need to do is call'

With that Pearl turned and slipped down into the water. Jasper was the last of the pod waiting and once the white mermaid dipped below the surface Steven watched as they vanished under its surface. The shimmer of there tails the last thing he saw.

Soon the lagoon was still and quiet once more and as he stood, Steven could feel the heart pull for him in the depths of the waves above and the pods connection to it.

And him.

Note: And here we are at the end! Thank you for going on this wild writing adventure with me as I took these characters and turned them into something else magical.

I had a lot of fun writing this and reading all your comments and questions here and on AO3! I'm happy to finally finish this work nd sad at the same time.
There was so much more I wanted to add in about the Aquatics culture and ways but it just didn't fit in with there world I rote here.
