Sam and Dean left the motel and packed up their things in the Impala an hour earlier than they expected. Instead of waiting in the car for an hour they decided to arrive at the Fenton household an hour before their agreed upon time. As Sam was just about to knock on the door they heard a faint crash. They both paused in their movements and listened closer. Another, louder crash sounded but this time it was followed by screaming and angry shouts.
Sam flung open the (thankfully unlocked) door and darted inside with Dean hot on his heels. The crashing and screaming could mean a number of things, but the most likely in their minds was a ghost attacking the small family. They followed the racket to the basement and started to descend the steps, but froze upon hearing what was being said.
"What did I tell you! What is the number one rule in this household!"
"D-Don't go in the lab."
They heard the distinct sound of a fist hitting flesh before Jack resumed his shouting. "What the hell is wrong with you!"
They heard sniffling as a much smaller and quieter voice replied, "I'm sorry, I, I just needed to go through the portal, I-"
"Stop making excuses!" The brothers started to resume their descent down the stairs, moving slowly to prevent being heard.
"You wouldn't let me do anything to work on my obsession, and I don't want to eat other ghosts! I was starving!" Sam and Dean made it far enough down the stairs to have a view of the lab, lit green with the portal's glow just in time to see Jack lunge at Daniel and punch him in the face. Daniel fell from the force of the blow.
"Stop fucking lying!" The boy curled up into a ball attempting to protect his face and neck, Jack punched him in the side.
"I spend good money on feeding you." Daniel gasped in pain, then Jack punched him in the head.
"You get three fucking meals a day." Jack punched him in the head again before fisting his shirt and shaking him, giving the Winchesters full view of his body covered with splotches of green blood. "You were just trying to make yourself stronger so you could come back and destroy us all weren't you!"
Daniel was shaking, his eyes blown wide with fear. He looked frozen, like a frightened rabbit. Jack shook him again, more violently this time and screamed, "WEREN'T YOU!"
"Y-Yes sir!" Daniel replied after finding his ability to speak. "I'm sorry." He apologised so quietly it could barely be heard over the thrumming of the portal. Jack stared at him for a moment as if debating his next move before he threw the boy to the ground harshly and walked over to a table.
Jack's eyes held no emotion as he said, "You're a waste of space, a threat to mankind. Without you, the town wouldn't be overrun with ghosts, without you my wife and daughter would still be alive. And I should have done this a long time ago."
Daniel lied on the floor helplessly with his eyes closed, not daring to move. If he just stayed still, he could avoid being hurt worse than he already was. Jack would always get bored around this point and leave him alone, he believed today would be no different, that was, until he opened his eyes and saw an ecto gun with a green ghost sticker on it pointed at his face. Everything slowed down. He couldn't hear anything, he couldn't feel anything, he couldn't see anything but the gun pointing at his face until it wasn't.
A shot rang out, but this time it missed.
Someone had taken the gun from Jack.
The gun was thrown to the floor with a clatter and in a second, two people had Jack's hands restrained behind his back. Jack struggled like a cornered bear and screamed "HEY, LET GO OF ME!" He thrashed for about five minutes before Daniel decided to speak up.
"It's not my fault."
At those words Jack froze and stared straight ahead at his son who was starting to pick himself up off the floor. "What did you just say?" He growled.
Daniel stood and glared back at Jack before spitting out, "I'm tired of you blaming everything on me, I'm tired of blaming everything on myself, It's not my fault and I'm tired of pretending it is!"
Jack became more and more enraged with every word. He opened his mouth to yell at Daniel, but the boy didn't give him the chance to speak. "You were the one who created the portal, you were the one who put the on button on the inside, you were the one who didn't warn us against messing around in there, you were the one who shot me. You're the reason I ran away, you're the reason Mom and Jazz are gone, you're the reason this town is overrun with ghosts, you're the reason I'm dead!"
The lab was entirely silent save for the thrumming of the portal and Daniel's heavy breathing. By the end of his rant, Daniel's eyes were glowing a toxic green that perfectly matched the colour of the portal constantly shifting in the background. He looked surprised by his own words, but quickly schooled his expression and glared at Jack before uttering one last sentence.
"Find a new punching bag. I'm done."
And just like that, he vanished.
