She and I were the last

By Gen

"Always remind him of his vow, Knight of the old code."

The dragon said taking his leave deep into his cave, leaving the daughter of Celts to take their leave with her wounded son who would recover. As he entered deep into his cave he was greeted by a welcoming site, his beloved friend and companion, the last other dragon, a female with her long scar, for she was the last female dragon. She slowly woken up from her slumber. She slowly sat up, she was elegant and poise, almost regal in her stance and way she walked, with a dignity and style.

"What happened?" she asked him.

" A friend to our kind came to me in need of help." he said.

" I hope it wasn't too much of a request." she said.

There was a silence from him.

She looked at him concerned as she approached him. " What happened?" she asked him concerned.

" I wish to not talk about it." he replied. "I'm weary of this night." he stated as he went to rest for the night.

The scarred one looked at him, and suddenly it came to her mind.

" You didn't." she said in shock. " How could you? Do you know what you have done? Sharing your heart with a human."

He stilled remained quiet.

" My friend do you know the dangers you have out yourself in? The risk you've made for yourself, your soul, your right to enter the dragon's heaven? Your right to be our ancient brothers of the sky."

He rose and walked up to her, " I know what I have done, but maybe it was the right thing to do."

" For your sake I hope so, I hope for both of our sakes." she said looking at their egg.

" I just hope sharing half your heart, won't cost all of your soul." she told him. sighing. She took her leave.

" The night is young, I will return. The stars aren't out tonight. If I was you I would enjoy this night, could be the last calming night you have." She said leaving to take to the sky to hunt.

Years went by, and young king became full of cruelty and hunger for power, now the ruins he had seen from his almost death, he was rebulbing it to make it greater than it ever was before. At what cost, families were becoming tortured and forced to work day and night. Meanwhile, the dragons were watching the scene before them hidden from the sight of humans, she looked at him. " I know this is something you never wanted to happen, but look at the price of sharing your heart with a human has become, now others are suffering for it, by the king's tyrant reign, we are no longer safe, they will find us, thinking you have bewitched him." she said feeling defeated and upset about the whole situation.

Though he didn't want to admit it but she was right. He was coming to know error of what he had done. " I just thought my heart could cure him."

" How naïve of us, to think human could change, accept us, or see us as friends, to reunite the two. What a dream it would have been. What world will our little live in if we are gone, and at the mercy of humans no less. Come I grow tire of the sight of humans, and tyranny." she said walking deep into the woods with him following her.

They knew it was smart travel on the ground and not fly around, not drawing attention from the humans.

" It's such a dangerous time to be one of our kind. Dragons are being hunted to the brink of vanishing from the very earth." she expressed herself.

He sighed . " Your right, but I think their is hope... for us at least."

She found herself smiling at him, remembering why she always did like his company, and why she chose to be his mate.

If only they knew, the knight Bowen, had went back to the cave, shouting and vow.

" Today I make a new vow, I will spend the rest of my life hunting you down!" Bowen shouted in the cave.

The scarred female one day decided to take to the sky to hunt. If only she knew this would be the last day of her life, and would never her mate again not in the life time, but in the stars themselves in the dragon's heaven.

"So it was you who killed the scarred one, she and I were the last."

The end.
