Summary: The world is a little backwards when it comes to soulmates. You usually find out who your soulmate is on the youngest sixteenth birthday, the way is different for everyone. There is a downside to having a soulmate though. If your mate dies, you die, and there is no stopping it. As soon as their heart stops and they take their last breath, you do to.

A.N.: This is a dialogue-less one-shot. Sirius never went to Azkaban, Peter did, and he had escaped to revive Voldemort. Harry was raised by the Dursleys.

Harry had always been nervous about the idea of a soulmate. The idea that if Voldemort ever killed him that an innocent bystander would die along with him. He had experienced this firsthand when he had escaped the hands of Voldemort and the Death Eaters at the cemetery and brought back the dead body of his friend Cedric Diggory. He had arrived back to absolute chaos surrounding the dead body of the Ravenclaw he had been crushing on all year, Cho Chang. It was later that it was discovered that on Cho's 16th birthday, it was revealed that Cedric and she were soulmates, and that she had died when he did.
Now here he was a year later standing in the ministry of magic, fighting a duel against some of the most loyal Death Eaters. Harry looked around as they surrounded him and his friends, the Lestranges, Greyback, Malfoy, and many more with their wands aimed at them. They were only 14- and 15-year-olds that had got swept up into a war that was started before any of them were born. Harry was angry with himself for not realizing sooner that this was a trap, that Voldemort had set to get his hands on the prophecy. He was happy that his godfather wasn't here and was hoping that he wouldn't show up. If anything happened to Sirius or his friends, he would never forgive himself.
However, Harry's wishes were not heard. Just as Bellatrix was in the middle of casting the Cruciatus Curse clouds of light began to appear around them. From the light emerged the many forms of the members from the Order. Remus and Sirius stood hand-in-hand, Tonks was off near Moody and Kingsley, and the other that Harry didn't know all had their wands raised and ready to fire.
Spells and hexes began to be unleashed as jets of reds and yellows and green flew over the heads of the students. Greyback was dueling against Neville and Tonks, stunners and cutting jinx sent back and forth. The cutting jinx caught Neville on his brow and the stunner threw Greyback into the wall behind him. Bellatrix and her brother-in-law had managed to corner Harry and Sirius, slowly backing them towards the ominous archway behind them. Spells were fired back and forth, over and over again, Sirius with sass and flair and Harry who struggled to keep up with the Ex-Auror.
That's when Bellatrix struck like a cobra, swift and hard. Sirius had managed to get a hex in against Malfoy and knocked him back off of the platform, he didn't have time to notice that his cousin had found an opening in his stance. It happened so slow, yet so quick in Harry's eyes. She had thrown a killing curse at him, and the momentum from the spell had hit Sirius square in his chest and sent him flying through the archway. Harry had to watch as he lost the last connection to his parents to death. He knew that they were truly gone when he heard the sound of Remus' dead body fall to the stone floor echoing in the sudden and deafening silence.
Bellatrix began laughing hysterically at the fact that she had just killed her blood traitor cousin and his mate. She stopped momentarily when Harry let out a mixture between a broken sob and a warrior's cry, then turned to face her with a face of uncontrollable wrath. She began her laughter again and ran off towards the atrium bragging. He ran after her screaming and throwing spells blindly at her in grief and anguish. As he was getting ready to throw a Cruciatus at her he was surprised by the presence of Voldemort waiting for them by the fountain in the atrium.
Voldemort had that ever-present evil smirk on his snake face. His red eyes pierced Harry to his very core. He then attacked, not giving Harry a moment to defend himself. He gained that sick pleasure he felt when he heard the screams of Harry as he held him under the Cruciatus. He let up for a moment before he surrounded the boy's body with water from the fountain, slowly suffocating and drowning the boy, as he ordered Bellatrix to start her torture on the boy. Tiring of this ordered Bellatrix to stop and released the water. He was sick of this; the boy's body had become lax as he gave up the fight.
Voldemort was a righteous and just man in his mind and decided that if Harry wasn't going to beg his life, he was going to make him. Voldemort threw another Crucio at him as he ordered Harry to fight back and beg for his life, like the little scourge that he was. He become greatly annoyed when the screams and cries began to die down as Harry's green eyes began to dull. The Dark Lord was now regretting not bringing his loyal friend, Nagini. He was getting entirely fed up with this nuisance just wanted to kill the boy and feed him to her.
Harry's screams of pain had garnered the attention of the other students and Order members. They had come hobbling into the atrium as the fireplaces came to life and out came Dumbledore, Fudge, and the Aurors. Voldemort who was sick of the damn Potter boy, ever a man of the theatrics, finally having an audience decided it was time to kill him. As he looked into those dull green eyes with his red eyes, he finally felt victory and threw one last spell, Avada Kedavra. Moody, being the ever the paranoid one, heard the spell and retaliated with practiced speed, sending the same spell back towards him. Everyone watched on in horror as the spells moved in slow motion.
Two jets of green light crisscrossed, followed by screams of horror, Voldemort turning into a cloud of black smoke, and the sound of four bodies falling to the ground simultaneously. The curses had hit Harry and Bellatrix simultaneously, killing their soulmates, and causing Voldemort to become a solid mass of flesh. In that, a moment that should've been a celebratory time became one of mourning and tragedy. As the world would now have to cheer for the death of the Dark Lord, but also mourn the death of the savior who saved them all and his soulmate.
Harry watched on in the afterlife as they held the funerals and buried him next to his parents. He didn't care though. Harry was happy and at peace. He was surrounded by his family, his mom, dad, Remus, and Sirius, they had been waiting for him. He felt bad for dragging his soulmate with him, but they now had an eternity to be together. He held his hand out to his soulmate who smiled at him and took it. Holding hands, they followed the Marauders into the light and for once all was right.
The End
A.N.: I chose not to give Harry's soulmate a full identity. I couldn't choose who I wanted, my originally choices were Neville or Luna, and couldn't make up my mind. They are in the party that came with him to the ministry, so you can choose who wish out of the five. I hope you enjoyed and please review.
