"We belong together…"
"We do."
"I'm in love with y-"
Casey was kissing Brett before she could even finish her sentence with smiles curling between their soft explorations of each other. That first moment after such a declaration calls for an equally passionate kiss.
Neither knew how long it had been as they embraced. Knowing the alarm bells could go off at any moment the two reluctantly separated, and yet held on resting against one another in a way neither had dared think they would be allowed to before. This wasn't like their celebration of Matt's MRI results, this was quieter and far more tender. They drank in each other's warmth in the frigid night air, letting their breath form steam around them. It was a confirmation without words. They do belong together.
After everything they had been through, all the loss and pain, this little piece of happiness was an affirmation that they could get through absolutely anything, so long as it was with the other.
"We should head back in. It's getting pretty late." Casey's voice came out in almost a quiver, still, his voice was soft and firm.
Sylvie looked up into his eyes, with a smile that melted him at his core, not knowing that she was one bat of an eyelash away from being carried to the supply closet right then and there.
"You're right. Before anyone sees what we've been up to." She smiled and giggled in her lovely way, and he couldn't help but smile back.
"Oh trust me, Sylvie Brett, there's plenty more to come." He grinned slyly at her as she blushed under his gaze.
"I'm counting on it." She gave him a wink as he opened the door to the main hallway, his hand resting in her lower back. Casey had to hold back a chuckle so as not to wake anyone.
They headed towards the bunks and parted slightly as they entered the rooms, trying their best to stay quiet while they shared a longing look. Sylvie moved towards her bed but looked back once more almost as if to check that he was really there. Casey walked towards his door, rubbing at his neck, and thanked God the lights were out or else everyone would have seen the flush of his cheeks. His heart was still pounding so hard he could have sworn it would wake someone up. He turned around and couldn't help but stare from his quarters waiting for her to lay down.
He smiled to himself as he climbed in bed and turned off his lamp. After all the turmoil, he finally had an answer. Sylvie Brett loved him too, and it was more than a guy could ever wish for. He was just beginning to fall asleep to a peaceful vision of him and Brett together away from this firehouse and more importantly alone. Just as he drifted off the alarm bells rang once more.
As the firehouse descended into controlled chaos he stole one more glance at Sylvie on her way to 61. His heart skipped a beat when he saw her staring right back at him. They shared a small content and knowing smile before they turned to their respective rigs, determined to focus, instead of wondering what tomorrow would bring…
