I was originally going to write about a proposal happening in the future but I lost motivation for it so now I'm doing angst based off of the fanfiction named "Helping Paws" Also this will involve a bit of description that happens when a child is abused so if you don't want to read it then you can skip this story.
Ryder was currently walking around Adventure Bay with his pups but they were all talking amongst each other while Ryder was listening to music through his pup pad. He had his ear buds in so no one would know what he's listening to because he's kinda insecure about people knowing what type of music genre he likes. Anyways, Ryder then noticed Mayor Humdinger and Mayor Goodway arguing about something but he knew if he didn't step in then it could escalate even more. He then turned off his music, took off his earbuds, put his pup pad and earbuds in his pockets, and he then noticed the pups watching the two argue in concerned but their faces were like they didn't want Ryder to know what the two were arguing about. Ryder then went over to the two and he asked "What's going on because it's causing a scene." "Ryder, you want to kno-" Mayor Goodway told Ryder but Mayor Humdinger cut him off and he told Ryder "Actually, it's about you." Everyone around were shocked but it made Ryder confused. "What is it about me?" Ryder asked. "Your mother has been asking to see you again. She's been saying that she's been missing you and how you need to come home because you're too young to live on your own along with that you need to be loyal to her and her family." Mayor Humdinger told Ryder and Ryder was is disbelief, he then said without thinking much "B-but the last time I was in that torture of a house was when she told me that if I died or ran away then she wouldn't care at all and I have the scars to prove it!" "What do you mean by scars to prove it?" Mayor Humdinger asked and Ryder went silent. He then noticed that all eyes were on him and he felt like he was that shy little kid that he once was. "I-i well... It's hard to explain b-but ummm..." Ryder admitted "But what? We're all ears and we would all love to gear how you got these so called scars." Mayor Humdinger admitted in a pi$$ed off mood which made Ryder a bit nervous and uncomfortable. "It's hard to say b-because I don't want to expose young children to what I've been through in the past." Ryder admitted but that made Mayor Humdinger even more mad. Mayor Humdinger then yelled which got everyone's attention "THEY'RE JUST STUPID SCARS, HOW CAN THEY POSSIBLY LEAD TO SOMETHING THAT MAY BE BAD TO THOSE WHO ARE YOUNG BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW IT YET!!!!!" Ryder couldn't help but tear up like he did something wrong and he tried to hide it from everyone who was watching this commotion go down. The pups wished they could help but the adult citizens that were blocking their way weren't helping because they were too busy worrying about Ryder since they never seen Ryder cry before. Ryder try to tell Mayor Humdinger that it was hard to explain but Mayor Humdinger wouldn't listen to him. Mayor Goodway then decided she had enough and she stepped in between Ryder and Mayor Humdinger. "Mayor Humdinger, it's ok that you were arguing with me before but when Ryder accidentally mentioned scars and you trying to get him to te you where he got them from crossed the line!" Mayor Goodway told Mayor Humdinger. Mayor Goodway then whispered to Ryder "Go over to Cap'n Turbot ok? I'll handle it from here." Ryder nodded and he ran passed the crowd to where Cap'n Turbot was abd the two shared the hug. The pups didn't see what was happening but they can tell that Ryder got out of the situation and as they looked around the concerned crowd, they soon saw Cap'n Turbot on his knees comforting Ryder who was hugging him and crying into his shoulder. The pups ran over and they soon joined the hug to help their leader. When the crowd disappeared, so did Mayor Humdinger but the pups and Cap'n Turbot can tell that a few citizens had to hold Mayor Goodway back from hurting Mayor Humdinger. When she came over to the group, Ryder calmed down a bit and he apologized to Cap'n Turbot for crying. Cap'n Turbot being used to Ryder apologizing for crying told Ryder "Ryder, it's ok to cry and there's nothing sorry to be about it." "How you feeling?" Mayor Goodway asked Ryder and Ryder replied with "Better, sorry for butting in on your argument with Mayor Humdinger." "It's ok Ryder, you were going with your instincts to try to stop it and to calm it down." Mayor Goodway admitted but then Ryder replied with "But I made it worse." "Ryder, we all get curious and we all make mistakes." Chase admitted and the pups agreed. "Yeah! And we all have scars like I have a scar on the back of my ear from a mean nasty thorn bush when I was little!" Rubble added with child-pureness on his eyes. This made everyone including Ryder giggled. Sure Rubble may not get it now but in the future he'll understand that Ryder's scars are something that stuck with Ryder on how he got them.
