This was inspired by Elias Vincent's fanfiction called Pups worse nightmare but I'm gonna switch it up a bit and you can tell by the title that only one thing is inspired from Elias's story that made me want to write this angst of a story. Also warning this will involve suicide mentions and attempt

It was a peaceful day and Ryder and the pups were all taking a hike around the cliffs. Ryder was showing it to them since he recently discovered this and he thought it would be a great bounding time for them. They soon found a spot to rest for a bit and Ryder being Ryder, he sat on the edge making sure that he is on a spot where he's safe and so he wouldn't fall off. He then looked down from the cliff at the view and he couldn't help but think that he shouldn't jump off but his gut is telling him that he should. He didn't know why he was feeling this way at all and he was starting to get a bit scared. He then thought of him actually doing it but he didn't jump off tho, he just stayed sitting down just looking at the view. That's when the cliffs started to shake and Ryder exclaimed "PUPS, RUN WE NEED TO GET OUT OF HERE!!!!!" The pups all then started to run down the trail they went on but Ryder got up and he then slipped and soon he grabbed onto the edge of the cliffs holding onto it for his dear life. Ryder didn't know what to do like he wants to hang on or he wants to let go and perish. That's when he felt a hook that grabbed him by his shirt and he was soon pulled up to the safest part of the cliffs. He then looked up and he saw Skye in her helicopter, he knew the pups's vehicles were at the bottom in the paw patroller but he was shocked at how fast Skye got into her copter. Skye then took him back to the paw patroller where the other pups were waiting for him. When Ryder got out of the harness and onto the paw patroller, he was shocked at what his mind came up with but he said nothing to the pups and they all decided to head back to the lookout.

An hour goes by after they got back to the lookout, Ryder was still thinking about what he could have done at the cliffs but he didn't do it tho. He then started to think about why he was in this world to be begin with and if he was actually important or not. He didn't know how long he can handle it and he started to feel miserable but the pups and his friends made him smile but his dad was in a coma, his mom hates him, he doesn't know his grandparents but his mother's father probably hates him, his enemies hate him, he's terrified of his mom, he's sensitive to yelling, he's scared of getting abused again, and all of the negatives in one. He didn't know how long he can handle this happy sunshine act for long but he was pushing his limits. Chase and Marshall noticed Ryder staying quiet the whole time and the two noticed something off with him as if the cliff incident turned him from a really happy kid to a really quiet and sad kid. "Chase, why don't you talk to him. The others don't notice yet and I don't know what to do if they do notice." Marshall whispered to Chase and Chase nodded. Chase then went over to Ryder and he asked "Ryder? Can we talk in private please?" Ryder nodded and the two stepped outside for a moment. "What's wrong Chase?" Ryder asked Chase while trying to sound a bit happy like nothing was wrong and Chase told him "It's nothing that has to do with me, I noticed that you seemed a bit down after you came from the cliffs. What's wrong?" Ryder went silent and he told Chase "I don't know what you mean Chase! I'm fine!" Chase couldn't be too certain if Ryder was lying or not. It then went silent for a few minutes but Ryder then went to go make the pups's dinner. Chase went over to Marshall and he gave him a look that says that he couldn't seem to get out from Ryder on what was wrong with him.

After dinner and the next day, Chase woke up to find Ryder not at the lookout. He left his pup pad and his badge as if he doesn't want anyone to find him. Chase then tracked Ryder's scent and he told the pups who were awake that he's going to find Ryder alone and that the pups should stay at the lookout in case a mission happens. Meanwhile with Ryder he was back at the cliffs just sitting on the spot he sat on before just looking down thinking about what he thought about when he was in the same position. Ryder's thought and gut were agreeing on the same thing and that Ryder should jumped off the cliff and forget out the positives in his life. Ryder didn't know what to do since the pups would yell at him if he actually did it or if he told them that he almost did it. Ryder then got up, stepped back to the wall of the mountain, and he then started to run to the edge of the cliff like he's actually gonna do it but he soon stopped because he heard Chase exclaimed his name after putting a net in Ryder's way "RYDER NO!!!!" When Ryder stopped he had to process what he tried to do and he then turned around to see Chase in his police cruiser pulled over to the side and he had a scared combined with shocked reaction at what Ryder tried to do but Chase started to feel a bit mad combined with sad that Ryder tried to do that.

A few minutes of silent go by and the dog and human duo sat to the side of the trail but away from the cliff and they had their backs against the mountain's wall. Chase then spoke up and he asked "Why did you do it?" "I don't know..." Ryder admitted while looking down. "Can you tell me what's wrong then and what's making you feel this way?" Chase asked Ryder and Ryder couldn't properly form the words as he teared up. "Listen Ryder, I'm not angry but I am a bit mad that you legit tried to end your life right then and there. You have so many people in Adventure Bay who cares about you!!! If you were to die then you would legit not break us pups but everyone else!! DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH GRIEF THAT WOULD CAUSE!!!!!!" Chase told Ryder as he raised his voice at the end but he didn't realized that he did but he soon realized that when Ryder started to cry. "I-i'm so sorry Chase!!! I'm sorry!!!" Ryder exclaimed as he cried even more. Chase then put his head on Ryder's head and Ryder pulled Chase into a hug. After a few more minutes of silence, Ryder then whimpered as he told Chase "I need help Chase... I need help..."
