"Proper Trainwreck?" I most certainly must disagree and state that there is nothing proper about gin. It's just battery acid mixed with yard clippings! So sorry that the English heritage in me did not come with the dreadful love of gin, but there are 10 different brands of Russian vodka in my second freezer that win the argument hands down. A shot with a small (or small slice) pickle afterwards makes the world right once again! Thankfully my wife was born and raised near Moscow so we bring back the good stuff you cannot buy in the States. Though I will say there are a couple Polish vodkas which give the Russian vodka a run for the money!
I just caught this story from Dreaming_Paradise's fav list and thoroughly am riveted reading it but I will wait to send you a fuller review after I read chapter 7.

First and foremost, wow. A new freaking chapter! It's always so great to see another one for this story, I've been loving reading it.
Now for the harder part. I agree with rushsignals2. This chapter feels like a very different story. While the first 6 chapters are a romantic comedy with drama created around Weiss and her father, and Jacque Schnee's character in general, this latest one was a police action fic. There are certain beats that are generally followed to allow for an action climax to work well in an action fic, which are all missed in this one. Jacque's wrong-doings should have been mentioned by name, or Cinder's personality shown in the story before the end. We know that Ruby has family and friends which had died in the past, but Weiss has a gun-happy father and we only find out about him killing her dog in this chapter.
That being said, the beats up until this chapter were that of a romcom. Introduction of love interests; they don't see eye to eye. Then they become friends, get to know each other and fall in love. Sprinkled through are mentions of a dastardly villain who will most likely attempt to sabotage their relationship during the climax. You even have the chapter with the classic: "I trusted you and you betrayed me!" moment (which I particularly love in general and especially in this). But the climax was set up for one with less action and more heavy-handed criticism, maybe Jacques using force to get the two to break up or marry Cinder or anything other than a full-on gunfight.
It was a good fight overall, but it just didn't fit with the feel of the rest of the story in my honest opinion.
Still an amazing story overall and I am super pumped for the epilogue when it comes out in 5 months (joking!) :)

You are correct that was sappy as syrup, and I was grinning like an idiot strait through it. As the days come to pass it seems less and less likely for me to be as enraptured in the worlds of FF, however I haven't a choice but to admit that this work has and will continue to be one of my favorite stories. When I started reading this nigh on 9 months ago, I'm not gonna lie, I thought it was hilarious, but also eloquent, imaginative, stunningly amazing, and amazingly stunning. I don't know you. I probably never will, however, I have read this story. It makes me feel like I know the characters better than one would think possible, almost feeling as if I'm there with them experiencing their experiences, travelling with their torments and peregrinating with their passions. I would like to humbly express my gratitude for this fic, and say that I will be awaiting the epilogue to this roller-coaster of a story.

First off I just want to thank you for updating this fic again. I never gave up hope! Secondly, I hate to say but this chapter felt really disappointing. I felt like I was reading a different story than the first 6 chapters. Rushsignals2 below me summarized all of my complaints and critiques with this chapter in a far more articulated way than I ever could. Despite this, I still loved this story and I hope you continue to write in the future.

All right, first and foremost I'm so happy you finally updated this. It was awesome to get a new chapter, and I'm thrilled with the amount that happened in it.
That said:
-This feels like an entirely different story.-
Please don't take that the wrong way. You write really well, and I know that a lot of the way it was written was intended to be showing Weiss' shaky mental state and breakdown when dealing with something that has plagued her for literally her whole life. I personally feel like it was too much, too fast, and it seemed very out of character for the story as a whole. The rest of it moved so slowly comparatively, and I have a lot of questions about individual decisions made during the writing of this.
Jacques is built up to be this big monster of a person, but he's only vaguely threatening and appears to be very hands-off from his actual presentation. Weiss tells us about things that have happened in the past, and we as readers are seeing his well crafted mask, but for him to suddenly say things like "staff stays on pain of death" in the middle of a busy dinner service seems to be wildly out of character. Maybe he finally snapped and is already losing it by that point, but we were never shown or even told that this may have been the case. A Tony Montana moment doesnt fit this archetype of villain, and it felt wrong.
I feel like the Cinder aspect was also criminally underplayed, and could have allowed for a chapter or more on its its own to resolve between the three (R, W, C). Weiss and her used to have a relationship. Use that. RIP our hearts out all over again, and involve Ruby in it. Make her second guess being with Weiss. How could she possibly have a relationship with someone this unabashedly evil?
And she pulled a gun on Weiss? In the middle of a restaurant? Like...?
If the baddies weren't killed in that firefight, then why would they (being the only conceivable ones who could) take Neptune and Sun alive? They were literally shooting at each other. There would be no reason for someone as bloodthirsty as Cinder to take them and not kill them outright... Not to mention that they seemed to be pinned down pretty easily considering how confident they all were and how big a threat they are presented to be.
On the note of escalating encounters as well, first of all what the fuck was Jacques doing with a grenade? And secondly why, in the middle of a firefight, would he just run out into the main dining area and hurl it? That's asking to get shot when you open yourself up like that. Our mains also had no damage whatsoever from the blast even though it landed close by and there was mo cover there? Like... bruh. C'mon.
This will absolutely *ruin* Jacques even if he and the other villains make it out, and it feels like he picked the place and time on purpose. If he knew about all of this in advance, why not just handle it in their homes one by one?
I dont know, none of this seems to make sense and it feels like it was rushed through for the sake of getting it out. You spent all this time building background tension for all of this and never let any of it shine in the foreground until it was literally guns blazing and everything in ruins.
Yes, it makes for a very dramatic scene and it was well articulated and described. Does that mean it has to come at that moment, and in one small burst? Personally, I don't agree with that.
If this seems like I'm harping on you, I'm sorry. I dont want it to come off that way. I'm just genuinely confused as to the shift in pacing and presentation of the characters. It's always been high stakes, but I feel like it needs to be shown, and not told. Where is the lurking specter slowly proving Weiss right? We as readers are basically just told "believe her, she's a main character". While yes, we know that these are our heroes and we are already rooting for them it feels like mountains out of molehills from what was already shown to us. Her dread is convincing to her and to the characters, but we need to be shown that as well. She's lived it, but we haven't seen any of that on screen, and then it literally all blows up in our faces at once.
Please don't take this amiss. I love this story and I want to see more from you, no matter if it's connected to this or not. Your description is masterful and your prose is damn good.
I was just left... unfulfilled is maybe the right word? Conflicted, maybe. I know there is an epilogue coming and that my judgment will definitely change with more information and time for the characters to process what's happened. It just feels so weird comparative to the rest.
It's meant to be a constructive criticism and I hope you would be willing to have a discussion about it.
Overall, I'm glad you ripped out both my and Ruby/Weiss' hearts along the ride. You did a great job building this, and I loved the time spent getting here.
Please, keep writing. I want to see you do more, and write even bigger and grander things.

Hoo boy. First of all, damn, that was a bit brutal. But, mostly, seems to be working out in the end. Except for that whole "where are Sun and Neptune" bit, which sounds either like a wrap-up-next-time, or, better, a sequel hook, which I'm definitely down for. Frankly, I'd absolutely read just several chapters of Ruby and Weiss cooking and being loving together in their new restaurant.
Second of all: I'm so glad to see this finally updated! I may not have been following this story since the beginning, but I have been eager for this chapter for practically the entire wait since the last one. I was kinda getting worried the longer it went, so I'm really pleased to see this story getting to wrap up.

I'm so glad you finally updated and what a roller coaster of a chapter it was. So Jacques knew from the get go what Weiss and the others were up to but they got the last laugh. Poor Ruby and Wess. Ouch. I'm glad that bastard got what he deserved. I didn't expect Cinder but hey made it all the more exciting. Only one more chapter left and this story comes to an end. I hate that this has to happen but I stuck with the story since it began and loved everything about it. The food is so delectable and I loved the story line. I hope you'll post the epilogue sooner than later.

So, like, this was last updated in June... I know you dont owe us anything, but I've read it probably 4 times in the last week or so and I have a *mighty need* for more of this. The angst and grieving Ruby nearly made me cry, the silly lovestruck stuff was sappy, fluffy and sweet, and the descriptions of the food and kitchen were so thoroughly descriptive that it showed just how much these characters really care about what they're doing. I almost wish it took longer for them to get together, but just... I'm screaming in gay lmao.
Do you have any more plans to continue this?
Do you have any idea of if/when we might be able to expect anything?

This is great, both in writing and execution and plot. Weiss and Ruby feel equal and damn, I like this cheeky Ruby a lot. I hope we get to see her angry hot headed side again before the end. Especially if it means protecting Weiss.

Cool trainwreck guide, although I think it would've been better placed in the chapter it actually came up in (2 or 3?). Interesting to see everything start to tie together now, though Weiss's history with Cinder is still a coming loose end... AU stories are always hit or miss, but this is definitely one of the better ones.

Holy cow this is good. I'm loving Ruby so far and I love how Weiss is an actually good person. Cooking stories are like mini-crack to me so I'm very happy that you are making it work wonders.
The story is going to end with Weiss and Ruby opening up their own little restaurant together. They have to. That's the classic cheesy cooking-movie ending and I cannot wait. Actually, yes I can. Because the longer I wait for the ending, the longer the story is and I don't think I can handle this story ending anytime soon. Good job and keep up the good work.

Hoo. I both hate and love that this was updated 14 hours ago. I just found this story today, and wouldn't have if it weren't so recently updated. But on the other hand I'm terribly impatient and hate waiting!
I'm not usually one to go for the hard-AU-type stories, but this one caught my interest. You can tell the amount of effort going into this, and I love that. Keep it up, because its awesome. Nothing to do now but wait and hope the next chapter comes sooner rather than later!

Another great chapter. Ruby and Weiss were having a good time until Sun and Neptune interrupt. Ruby tells about the plan and they find out that Sun and Neptune are the moles. Weiss is pissed and rightfully so. I can't wait to see what the plan is.

Okay the one thing I would like to point out is that rotations generally refers to the spin of a celestial body and revolutions refers to the spin of one celestial body around another. You may want to change it, if you deem it necessary, so that babies of 21 days are not chugging trainwrecks(too bad I'm not of legal drinking age...). Amazing as always, but now I'm slightly confused as there were quite a few plot points laid out, but you leave the suspense of not connecting the plot points yet. Also is it just me that feels like this is two completely different, yet interwoven stories? It seems like there is a romantic drama between a chef and her sous, and then there is the (probably) angsty detective/crime storyline with the undercover whatever Sun's position is working to expose the crime of the restaurant's owner, who happens to be the chef from the other storyline's father. The chef's father brings up the chef's past demons whenever he's around, so the restaurant owner is the antagonist of both stories. To add even more plot, the former sous is working with the new sous' sister's girlfriend to help solve the case of the new sous' girlfriend(who happens to also be the chef)'s father in order to save the former sous' friend. I hope I'm not missing anything too important that has happened in the story or any major plot points . . . (*~*). A lot of that plot outline interweaving the two sides of the story was repeated, and I wrote that in like 3 mins, so plz don't hate me if I said anything more than once or if I said anything that was completely wrong; kindly remind me of what is actually going on instead of what I said.
My saying that he story had a sort-of mystery/detective storyline in it seems like it isn't entirely true; it seems to have a detective side to the storyline, but it seems like that is just going to be there for dramatic effect, use of side characters, and (possibly) helping a main character overcome their demons.
Can I also say that, indirectly, that ended on a dark note. If you read the last sentence without reading the ones before it, it sounds dark. Adding to that, why wouldn't they have that night if they didn't endure the emergence on the east(sunrise)? It's a little confusing: they would have tonight no matter what the new day brings, as long as they survive said breach of the night. Its kinda like saying (while playing a game) you will always have this bonus, and then saying you only get the bonus if you can handle always having it.
Anyway, I do really enjoy this story, and I hope to read more soon. Thank you for writing! Peace.

So Ruby wants to finally tell Weiss that she loves her while Weiss wants to fire Ruby. They dance which is the sweetest thing in the world until the prodigal asshat shows up and ruins it. Ruby gets fired which sucks but thanks to a talk with Yang and convincing Neptune; Ruby makes her move in a big way; they do argue and Ruby tells the whole truth and they finally give into each other and I'm very satisfied about that. Sun and Neptune start to plan how to royally screw Jaques while breaking out Velvet and of course Ruby also getting into the plan has given me the most demonic cheshire cat smile on my face. And I love Ruby's line of "the plan that involves my sister, her girlfriend, and next week's service and a whoooole lot of balls." Jaques is royally fucked and I'm going to enjoy the show with popcorn.

Omg I'm just absolutely in love with this story. I love the way you've written the all the characters but especially Ruby, Weiss, and Neptune. The banter and flirting is top notch and makes me internally squeal with joy. I was wheezing at Ruby's "platonic" train of thought! And I can practically feel the emotions and tension Ruby and Weiss are experiencing. The descriptions of food and restaurant jargon are great, too, as an admirer of the culinary scene. I sincerely can't wait to see more updates for this fic!

I'm enjoying this story a lot so far and it's a fun AU for the characters. The discussion with Yang & Blake and then Neptune's casual mention of organized crime tied with the evocative nightmare of the burning restaurant make me wonder if it's more blatant foreshadowing and if Blake is going to pull a rather uncouth move and pull Ruby into her investigation (I'm pretty much 100% certain that Neptune was the informant given his position and relationship to Weiss).
Followed and looking forward to more updates as I'm greatly enjoying the will they/won't they with Weiss/Ruby (who are we kidding they're totally going to ;D) and the chemistry on the whole with your story so far. The touch with Ruby coming clean about Summer and with Tai confusing the two is a neat angle (I've seen it once before and it was a very different take) where it really cements Ruby's resilience but at the same time brings the pair into a nice dichotomy as they are both living in their parent's shadows but in very different ways. The only hang up is that she's possibly too resilient and I fully expect that she's putting up a front. The losses she spoke about couldn't have been more than a year or two old at most and are probably a lot closer (I fully expect they're the catalyst for the move) so she's going to have problems which we see flashes of but in some ways were a bit too clinical in their talk. We don't see her support structure, other friends/family/whatever and stress brings that kind of loss and the pain back. I'd like to see a bit more of that (probably from her PoV) and I'm curious just how epic the crash and meltdown will get (because there's one coming, thankfully Sun/Neptune seem to be waiting in the wings as backup).

First off, this is the first decent RWBY story I've seen in months on this site. That might say more about me than anything else, but I think that this story is quite good and it also makes me hungry.
I'm also going to take a shot in the dark and say that the case Blake is investigating is Jacques and that her informant was Neptune. He was recently compromised from his position for fraternizing with a Faunus after all, and he casually mentions that Jacques is probably a criminal. If he's working with the police, then he'd have a reason to make that kind of insinuation and potentially believe it. It would be pretty nice for this fairy tale to end with the evil tyrant being arrested and freeing our daring heroine to live the life she always wanted.

But in all seriousness this was an amazing chapter, I can't wait for the next one, and you are an amazing author(wanted to get the formalities out of the way first, because at this point I think it's unnecessary for me to say how irrefragably(its a word, look it up) amazing you are). The characters all seem very deep and its amazing. Also is Blake's big career making case going to expose Weiss's dad for being mixed up in some illegal shit? On another note, I think that the pieice cream was an amazing metaphor for the two of them, Ruby is sweet, warm, and outgoing, and Weiss can be cold(but she's actually a softie), but she has her own flavor and dynamically works better with someone who is warm, kind and outgoing. It's honestly one of the reasons why the White Rose ship works so well. Continuing with the dessert metaphor, Ruby is sweet but still has some bitterness or tartness to her personality(strawberry/cherry). Weiss is a lot like a blueberry, her childhood has a lot of sour memories, but at her prime(i.e. w/ Ruby) she can be sweet(how blueberries ripen(but I guess that happens to a lot of fruit)). The balance of warm and cool plus the added fruity flavors makes it all delightfully delectable.

Wow. That was deep. I'm glad that Ruby and Weiss are getting closer but Weiss being afraid of her dad has ruined the ride. The food sounds really good. Neptune egging Weiss on was hilarious. I can't wait for the next chapter and hope WhiteRose takes off in a big way and Weiss' father suffer with hellfire.

This is actually really good. I wasn't expecting a whole lot because I got here from a random reddit link but you obviously know what you're talking about in the kitchen and the characters stay true to themselves despite changes from their enviroment. I'm looking forward to the next chapter, there aren't many quality whiterose fics currently updating but this deserves to be on that list.

You've carried the characters over to the AU really well and I'm enjoying this quite a bit, I do have one issue though. And that's that you don't have a mixing recipe or AN comment for whatever a "mistrali trainwreck" is actually called cause I can't find it and damn that sounds either great or terrible. Drink notes with chapters would be great!

Wow. I would never do what Ruby did against Perry in a million years. I love Ozpin and the idea for his different drinks. Dammit Sun and Neptune. I love that Ruby and Weiss told each other about their pasts especially Weiss and why she doesn't sing anymore. I also love the idea about making their own menu. You know, I've read a few chef stories. And they were good! They had the attitude, and the heat, and I enjoyed reading them.
I don't think I've ever read one as good as this though. It's like every sentence you right has meaning behind it's placement, and I love that you can do that. People like to write frivolous shit because it hits their fancy, and it breaks the rhythm of the story. But this story? Oof. We already have so much info dropped on us, and I STILL feel like we are just waiting for the food we ordered. I looove it.
Excited for the next chapter! (And I'm also hoping Ruby has her own demons too. I love it so far, but supportive Weiss is just so precious I can't help but want it haha)
