Cisco woke up the morning of his first therapy appointment feeling sick, the night before Caitlin had made sure he had eaten foods that didn't hurt his stomach, which had worked at the time, but now he felt like he was going to throw up at any moment. He glanced over at Caitlin, she was still sleeping, it was early, about an hour before her alarm would go off to wake them up for work. He sighed, he couldn't exactly wake her up, because he felt sick, he wasn't a child. He rolled over and gently pushed his face into the doctors shoulder, careful not to wake her up, he needed comfort that only she could provide him. He was anxious and he thought that was probably the cause of his nausea, he took a deep breathe and willed himself to fall back asleep. Half an hour passed, he couldn't sleep again, his anxiety was building, and he still had hours before his appointment, he was nervous about telling a stranger about how he was feeling, what if they locked him up? Telling Cait was one thing, telling a complete stranger was another thing entirely. His stomach flipped and he wanted to run to the bathroom, he was scared, throwing up was never a fun experience and he was feeling incredibly alone right now. He pulled away from the sleeping woman and glanced at her again, she looked so peaceful, with all he had been burdening her with, he felt bad waking her up, but when his stomach flipped again, he decided he couldn't ignore it anymore. "Cait," he whispered, she didn't move, "Cait please," he whimpered reaching out to shake her shoulder gently, her eyes slowly fluttered open and she looked around sleepily. Her eyes landed on the wet ones of Cisco's, and she reached out to him,
"Hey, what's wrong?" she asked him, her voice rough with sleep,
"I feel sick Cait," he whimpered, feeling pathetic and childish, but he couldn't help feeling glad she was awake,
"It's probably anxiety honey," she told him, "Do you think your actually going to be sick?" she asked, he thought about this before shaking his head,
"No," he said, but then his body had other ideas, his stomach flipped violently this time, making itself known and Cisco sat up quickly, "Yes," he corrected his original response. Caitlin's eyes widened and she sat up quickly, her hair was messy, and her face was pale, but she still focused on the scientist in front of her,
"Come on then," she grabbed his hand and tugged him from the bed, they moved quickly out of her bedroom and into the bathroom, Cisco dropped down in front of the toilet, dry heaving. All his food from the previous day had been digested, so nothing came up, but the sick feeling was still there, taking over him, making him feel uncomfortable in his own skin. When he had finally stopped dry heaving he whimpered again,
"Cait," he called out quietly, she was there by his side in an instant, and he collapsed into her side, she wrapped her arms around him, providing him with a feeling of support and comfort.
"Your okay sweetheart, you're alright, let's go back into the bedroom, yeah, it's more comfortable there," she said. Cisco nodded and let himself be led out of the bathroom and into the bedroom. He laid back down on the bed and Caitlin fished out the teddy that had been sitting in his overnight bag. She handed it to him, and he gripped onto it tightly. "I'm going to shower and get ready, will you be alright for a little while?" she asked him,
"Yeah," he responded, gripping tighter to the teddy in his arms, Caitlin nodded,
"Okay, but if you need anything don't hesitate to come and get me," she reminded him,
"Okay," he nodded and rolled over, face buried in the pillow, as he tried to lower his anxiety.
When Caitlin came back into the bedroom twenty minutes later, she was dressed and ready for work. Cisco's nausea had lessened, and he told her he was able to go into Starlabs. She nodded accepting his answer and she helped him get ready to leave. They ate breakfast, brushed their teeth and grabbed their things, before leaving for work. Caitlin worked in Cisco's lab again today, keeping a closer eye on him than the day before, she was worried about his anxiety, the closer they got to the appointment and after he was sick yesterday, she wanted to make sure she could spot any signs of that occurring again. They made it through the morning with no more problems but after lunch, as the appointment grew closer, Cisco became clearly more anxious. He stopped working and would just stare into the desistance for long periods of time, and he gradually moved his chair closer and closer to Caitlin's basically sitting on top of her, by the time they had to leave, "Cisco" her voice was gentle and soft, in an attempt not to startle him, "It's time to go," she told him. The scientist didn't say anything just stood up from his chair, Caitlin looked at him concerned but didn't say anything until they were in her car, "Are you alright hon?" she asked him, reaching out to hold his hand. He nodded, but couldn't seem to bring himself to look at her, this raised her level of worry about him significantly, "Cisco, words please," she told him in a tone that suggested he should definitely answer her,
"I'm okay, just anxious," he told her. Caitlin let out an internal sigh of relief, she was incredibly concerned when he stopped talking but his feelings were valid,
"I know, but this will be good for you, and I can be there for as long as you need," she let him know. He smiled gratefully at her and gave her hand a small squeeze before releasing it so she could drive.
They arrived at Cisco's appointment in good time. Caitlin got out of the car and waited for Cisco to do the same. She took his hand and led him into the building, she signed him in at the reception and then they took a seat in the waiting room. Cisco's heart was thumping hard, and his mind was loud, telling him all the things he really didn't want to hear. He felt himself begin to sweat and he leaned over to rest his head on the doctors shoulder. "Cait," his voice was quiet and sad, she brought up and arm to wrap around him,
"Shh, it's all going to be okay hon, I promise," she told him. Cisco didn't say anything, just snuggled further into her embrace.
"Francisco Ramon," a voice called out his name, he cringed at the use of his full name but got up, Caitlin stood up with him and they both followed the therapist further into the building.
Caitlin was in the waiting room when Cisco re-emerged. They had gone in together and Caitlin had stayed while he had got used to the room and the therapist and then when he was comfortable, she left, giving him an opportunity to talk openly with the professional. The scientist's eyes were red, when she saw him again, but other then that he looked happy enough, "You alright?" she questioned when he reached her side, he nodded instantly leaning towards her, letting her take him into her arms. She held him tight for a moment before releasing him and signing them out. "Let's go home," she said, and he nodded again, not quite ready to speak yet. When they arrived back at her apartment, Cisco immediately collapsed down on the couch, Caitlin put her things way neatly before joining him.
"Thanks for coming with me today," he said, curling up into her side,
"Of course," she responded, wrapping her arms around him tightly,
"I'm going to have appointments twice a week," he told her, "Would you come with me to them, you know, just to like sit in the waiting room," he asked the doctor,
"If you want me to, then that's what I'll do," she said. Cisco nodded and leaned into her shoulder, maybe she was right, maybe everything will be okay.
