Chapter 1.

Songbird

What if Aizawa saw Hitoshi Shinso's untapped potential during the exam? What if he took him under his wing and put him in 1-A from the beginning? Replacing a pervy purple balled-headed, individual. Watch as Shinso paves his path with the support he's never had before, and as he tackles the craziness of 1-A.

The alarm blared next to his bed, lavender eyes slowly opened staring up at the plain ceiling letting the alarm go for a few seconds. Then after a minute, Hitoshi leaned over shutting it off, checking the time he saw it was 7 am. 'Today's the day, Today's the day I show them all that I can become a hero' Shinso thought with a determined scowl thinking back to the bullies from school. Ever since others found out his quirk, people treated him like a ticking timebomb, like a rabid dog on a rusted chain about to break loose. In all fairness he could understand those who didn't know him acting cautious, no one liked to get brainwashed, but what stung was when his so-called friends began to distance themselves.

'Fuck them, they're all just idiots, there's no such thing as a villain quirk and I'll show them' Shinso thought resolutely. He slowly got out of bed and began to get dressed. Bringing an extra set of athletic clothes just in case for the practical exam. Slowly he gathered his things deciding on wearing a Lilac hoodie with some jeans and sneakers. With that, he grabbed his phone and headphones placing them around his neck before he left his room walking into the living room/kitchen. He sees his sister Imai sitting on the couch watching tv as she drew and his father was cooking in the kitchen. "Morning Tou-San, I'm heading out to U A for the exam be back later" Shinso signed to the elder Shinso who simply gave him a nod before resuming cooking breakfast. His dad had a vocal quirk like the pro-hero Present Mic but when he was young the Elder Shinso blew out his eardrums with his quirk deafening himself permanently. Hitoshi's mother was born deaf and they had met at the local ASL class in the area. Shinso was born with perfectly fine hearing but his younger sister Imai was born partially deaf but was hypersensitive to vibrations she often would lie on the floor with her ear to the ground feeling the vibrations doctors speculate that it might be related to her quirk.

Shinso gave his dad a stiff nod back as he slowly walked out of the house, walking to the train station in Saitama to head to UA. Putting on his headphones and his hood Shinso pressed play on his phone as he boarded the train drowning out all the surrounding sound. He began to hum along getting lost in the music.

Shinso began to get lost in his own world letting the music wash over him letting the stress and anxiety slowly fade away. He had his eyes closed but if they were open he would have seen the other commuters in the train car he was in was giving him odd looks as he had unconsciously begun singing and was not so quietly singing to himself as the trip went on. Two of the other passengers took notice and began to whisper to each other.

"He Mina do you think that he realizes he's singing?" Kirishima asked his school friend

"No I don't think so Kiri, he looks completely in the zone. Doesn't sound too bad either, think he's in a band?" Mina responded as she looked over at the Launderette.

"Maybe," Kirishima says with a shrug. "Though some of the other people on the train are giving him odd looks probably cause it so early and most people are getting ready for work. I think I'm gonna let him know" with that Kirishima walked over to Shinso.

Shinso was broken from his Zen state as he felt a hand pat him on the shoulder. Opening his eyes he sees a red-haired teen with sharp teeth giving him a toothy grin and began speaking to him. Though he couldn't hear as his headphones had built-in Active Noise Cancelation. Pulling them off he heard "….. So yeah just wanted to let you know" with that the red-haired teen walked off giving him a thumbs up.

'huh wonder what that was about' Shinso thought having completely missed their supposed conversation. Before he could pull his headphones back on he heard over the speaker "Now arriving at UA" quickly he got up and made his way to the door noticing the red-haired teen and his friend also getting off. Slowly he left the station and was right outside the campus of UA University.

'I'm here, now to give this test my all, I will get in' Shinso began to walk onto the ground of UA as he saw students were being filtered into the Auditorium. Finding himself a seat he waited for it to start. The light suddenly blinked to life as a voice yelled over the microphone "HELLO LISTENER'S WELCOME TO THE UA ENTRANCE EXAM, CAN I GET A YEAAAAAAAAH" Present Mic could be seen on the stage in a weird pose with his ear to the crowd waiting for a response. Though he didn't quite get the response he wanted as everyone was too stunned.

"ALRIGHT TOUGH CROWD, ANYWAY THANK YOU FOR COMING TO THE UA ENTRANCE EXAM. IF YOU LOOK UNDER YOUR SEATS THERE IS A PAMPHLET, FOR THE PRACTICAL EXAM YOU WILL BE TERMINATING THESE MOCK VILLAINS OR ROBOTS. EACH ROBOT HAS A POINT RATING, FROM 1 TO 3 POINTERS.-" before he could continue Present Mic was interrupted by a student.

"Sir you only listed 3 robots but there are 4 on the pamphlet. Was there a typo or did you forget about the last one? Surely a school such as UA wouldn't make such a simple mistake. To be a school of such prestige and make such an error during the entrance exam is unimaginable" A blue-haired student with glasses said as he stood up chopping his arm in the air.

'Huh he's right, wonder what else is in this pamphlet' Shinso thought. He began leafing through the pamphlet.

"eh don't worry about the last one it's worth 0 points as it's too tough and is there as an obstacle more than anything," Present Mic said awkwardly though the blue-haired individual seemed satisfied with that.

'Points… disable… robots… sturdy… weak joints… different builds and sizes… wait off switch?' Shinso stared at the page he was nervous since his quirk wouldn't work against robots but maybe he could still get points by switching them off?

"ALL RIGHT NOW EVERYONE HEAD TO YOUR RESPECTIVE TESTING AREAS"

Present mic finished.

Shinso arrived at the testing field and changed into his athletic clothes. He couldn't help but marvel at the sheer size of it, it was huge. Shinso also saw that guy from the train, the guy gave him an enthusiastic wave before going back to his stretches.

"ARE YOU READY LITTLE LISTENERS? GO" Present Mic shouted over the system. No one moved not expecting such a sudden start. "THE ARE NO COUNTDOWNS IN REAL LIFE NOW GO!" with that, the students sprung into action.

Shinso began to run forward taking a hard right to avoid the larger crowd not wanting others to steal his quirk. Dipping into an alley he saw a fire escape leading up to the rooves and a small smile graced his face 'Guess it's time to use those parkour skills to use huh' Shinso thought as he quickly scaled the fire escape and reached the roof.

Getting the high ground Shinso surveyed the scenes before him.

In a monitoring room off-site the staff members watched the examiners looking at what this new batched had to offer. The monitors switched between contestants.

"Looks like we have a lot of promising first years," A large man with toothy tusks and shock white hair said. Watching as the monitor showed an orange-haired girl crushing robots with her enlarged hands.

"It would certainly seem so, though I wish some would have some more caution, I don't too many regulars in my infirmary," A small old woman with a cane said, her grey hair was pulled into a neat little bun. The monitor now showed a red-haired student with rocky-like skin brunt a blow from a 2 pointer then punch it in the face.

"Yes though some seem to be lagging behind, that boy seems lost," A strange cement block of a man said as he looked at the screen, A green-haired boy in a green jumpsuit seemed to be wandering through the streets till at 0 points."

"Hm, it's illogical to simply wander, though this student seems to understand the value of information gathering." A tired-looking man with shaggy black hair said, the screen showed Shinso up on a rooftop surveying but unaware of the bot approaching from behind. "THough his situational awareness could use some work."

'Fuck these things can climb? Of course, they can, fuck me I guess' Shinso mentally cursed as he dodged out of the way of the 2 pointers weird scorpion-like stinger thing. It was big and took up most of the space on the roof. Its red eyes were fixed on him and attacking him nonstop with its pincer and tail laser bullshit.

"He tin can wanna turn off for me" Shinso yelled as he dodge out of the way of another laser. His response was a swift backhand with its pincer catching him in the chest. Knocking the air out of him. 'OW fuck I can barely breathe, and of course my stupid useless fucking quirk doesn't work on it, and where is this stupid off switch' Shinso's mind races as he tried to dodge the barrage of attacks from the robot. He ducked low avoiding another strike and noticed something on the underbelly of the robot.

"You better be an off switch" Shinso growled as he dived towards the robot sliding across the roof and under the robot. Protruding from the underbelly of the beast was a large switch. 'Heh guess it was real' Shinso flipped the switch and the robot collapsed. Unfortunately, he was still under it. "AAAGHHHH" Shinso yelled as the robot fell on top of him crushing his legs. He struggled and wiggled trying to free himself but it wouldn't budge. "Damn it! Why, why me? This was supposed to be my chance, I was supposed to show them all wrong. Show them that I could be a hero even with my stupid useless fucking quirk. IT'S NOT FAIR DAMMIT!" Shinso screamed up at the sky, tears were welling up in his eyes. He was going to fail. This was it. All because his quirk didn't work on robots.

"AND TIME, THAT'S A WRAP LITTLE LISTENERS" and with those final words from Present Mic, it was cemented that Shinso lost his shot at UA. All he could do was throw an arm over his face as he cried in defeat. Medical bots arrived not too long after the exam finished and whisked him away to the infirmary.

Aizawa watched the scene unfold of Shinso's battle with the robot. A frown stained his face as he looked at the boy's file. 'Brainwashing, that is quite a useful quirk, unfortunate that it doesn't help against robots. I've told Nezu how illogical this exam was but the stupid quirkiest board won't let him change it.' Aizawa and Vlad King began to sort through the qualified student's files deciding which student went to which class. Aizawa couldn't help but keep Shinso's file around, the boy reminded him very much of himself. Quirkless if their specific trigger couldn't be met. Aizawa sifted through the files frowning there was a large number of problem children in this batch. He glanced over at Vlad King's pile and noticed how non-problematic his bunch was. 'Meanwhile, I have a living grenade with a superiority complex, a shy walking apology that somehow can throw a punch as strong as All Might not without putting himself out of commission, and this one …." Aizawa glance at the last file, Minoru Mineta scored decently on the written and decent in the practical though proctors noted that some points may have been stolen from other contestants and the rather unsavory behavior displayed when oogling other examinees. Aizawa decided to do some further investigating and immediately was assaulted with red flags, sexual harassment, sexual assault, verbal assault, all were hidden away from the school's initial screening but with some police database screening the red flags finally showed it's ugly head.

Immediately he denied acceptance of this student and black-listed him. Aizawa was many things but tolerant of perverts and rapists he was not. 'Ugh, ridiculous how that could have gotten past the school. Now I have one less student, not that it matters as I'll expel any of the other students if they have no potential like the last batch…. However' Aizawa's gaze lingered on Shinso's file.

Shinso walked out of UA exhausted and defeated, the school nurse healed up his legs, luckily he got off with just some bruises and a sprained ankle. Most of the examinees had left by now. Shinso looked at his phone 'it's noon next train isn't for another hour, I could just walk home I guess.' Shinso began to trek home head low headphones on.

Shinso was lost in his world when a shout broke through his thoughts "Fucking get off me you creep!"

Shinso turned and saw in the alleyway a guy with weird hands where the fingers extended was trying to grab at this girl.

"Hey, you could you stop that?"

"Mind your….."

Shinso smirked feeling his quirk take hold. "Good now go away and forget about use"

Without reply, the extendo hand guy walked off like a zombie. Shinso just sighed once he lost sight of him and release his quirk. Then he realized he still had company. The girl had purple hair cut kinda short with 2 long strands of hair that framed her face. She had these two red triangles on her cheeks and her ears were these long headphone jacks.

"Thanks," she said as she dusted herself off.

"Sure, no problem," Shinso said kinda awkwardly not knowing what to say.

"How'd you get that guy to stop? Was that your quirk or something"

"No I'm just really persuasive," Shinso said sarcastically

"Haha very funny, well thanks for the save vigilante-boy but I got to get going" With that, she left disappearing into the crowd.

'Vigilante boy? Oh fuck she's right I used my quirk against someone without a hero license shit' Shinso cursed his brash actions.

'0 for 2 I guess' Shinso continued the rest of his walk home.

Arriving home he saw his sister setting up the table looking at the clock it was only 2 too early for dinner. "Why are you setting up the table so early" He signed to his sister. His sister was only 5 so her ASL was ok but she always preferred trying to speak. "I wAnt tO Make TOU-san Appy," Imai said struggling with saying each word as best she could.

"OK, I'll be in my room," He said then ruffled her hair but pause realized he didn't sign hit and felt bad and began sign when he notice the look on his sister's face.

"What?" Shinso signed

"sAy uhgen" she said eyes wide.

"OK, I'll be in my room?" Shinso said again confused he knew she could somewhat hear her but not that well.

She began to hum and almost seemed to vibrate as she concentrated, then he noticed she was vibrating and so was he, so was everything. She hummed more and the vibrations grew louder. The room shook and glass shattered. "STOP IMAI" Shinso shouted.

Imai's eyes shot open she clearly heard him "I heard you," she said clearly but her voice just made it worse before anything else could happen Shinso took hold with his quirk and the vibrating stopped as her face went slack.

SHinso's shoulders slumped, and slowly release his quirk. He noticed his parents didn't come out so they were probably out getting groceries or something. He shot them a message 'Taking Imai to the hospital, I think she just manifested her quirk' He then looked at Imai who looked confused.

"You said you could hear me ok right?"

She nodded her head

"Ok we are going to the doctors I think you just got your quirk."

One quick doctor's trip later and the Shinso was back home, his parents had met him at the doctors and decided to take Imai to get ice cream to celebrate her getting her quirk. Turns out his sister also had a verbal quirk but it was more like his dad's, she was able to amplify the vibration of her voice, and if she hummed she could push the vibration out her feet into the ground or out her hand into the air. A byproduct of this is that she could hear normally now as she was sensitive to the vibrations in the air like when someone spoke. Obviously, he was happy she got a cool quirk but couldn't help but feel a bit bitter due to the events of early in the day.

'I guess she's the lucky one' Shinso sighed as he sat at his desk in his room. Not wanting to think much more about it he took out his laptop and faders. He had picked up the hobby a few years back and honestly it was a good stress reliever and it was non-disruptive.
