And Chapter One is out! I already wrote out the prologue a while ago, but I didn't want to post it until I finished Chapter One. Which hilariously took a while to write out and wasn't even that long. Hopefully the humour in this chapter makes up for it!
Disclaimer: I don't own Genshin Impact.
Chapter One
If you looked carefully at the statue of the Geo Archon, you would be able to tell that whoever carved it had taken great care in making sure that the sculpture had been crafted in the very image of the God of Contracts.
The statue portrayed a hooded man lazily lounging in the chair, his arm extended to show off the cube that he was holding. But the most noticeable thing probably wasn't the pose or the cube that he was holding.
It was probably the fact that the statue was half naked, the god's abdominal muscles bare for anyone who came across it to see. The statue left little to the imagination in regards to what kind of physical figure the god had, much to my disgust. The statue's outfit was cut into two pieces, the first part was a hood that covered the top half of his face and draped over his shoulders like a cape while the second part could be described as a sort of long skirt that wrapped around his waist.
And though it wasn't really obvious unless you looked closely, an observer with an eye for detail would realize that the God of Contracts had posed for said sculpture. There was just no way in hell the statue was that detailed otherwise.
Wonderful. Just what I needed to see.
Morax's abs on display for the entire world to see.
"Unbelievable." I glared at the statue that looked down at me. "Morax, you absolute narcissist."
The ground beneath me trembled and I wondered if the god in question heard me. Probably. I was right in the middle of his territory after all.
Oops.
It was probably blasphemy to be standing in front of the statue of the oldest and probably the most powerful of the Archons and calling him a narcissist, but I didn't care. I was going to hold this over his head for a long time once we met again.
Taking a deep breath, I stepped forward. Logically, what I was about to do should work. There was no reason it shouldn't, considering that all the Traveler needed to do in the original game was touch the statue before they were suddenly blessed with the ability to wield whatever element that the god that was depicted on the statue reigned over.
Worst case scenario, nothing would happen. I would just be unable to wield the elements of the world and would have to rely on my born powers and skills.
But it didn't hurt to try.
And honestly? If I ignored who was the one who reigned over the Geo element, the concept of controlling elements was pretty cool.
I thrust my hand in front of me and my palm slammed into the cold concrete. A few seconds passed and nothing happened. Just as I was about to remove my hand, unable to stop the feeling of disappointment washing over me, I felt something warm pulse that made me pause.
From where my hand made contact with the statue, energy began to flow through my body. The energy was… familiar. It reminded me of him. Though it shouldn't have come as a surprise.
But just as soon as it began, the flow of power slowly tapered off until I could no longer feel a connection. I slowly removed my hand, clenching it several times to try and clear up the feeling of pins and needles. I could feel the element of Geo coursing through my veins, but there was only one way to see if it worked.
Turning my hand so that my palm was facing up, I made an upward motion with my fingers.
"Ack!" I suddenly found myself being tossed up into the air without warning.
I landed a few feet away in an undignified heap, trying to breathe after the landing literally knocked the air out of my lungs. I groaned before turning my body so that I was looking up at the sky.
"Ow." I said. "Maybe I should probably practice wielding it first."
Because it made sense that there would be no way I would have any kind of mastery over an ability I just got seconds ago. I suppose my arrogance came from just how easy wielding the powers seemed from behind a screen.
Also… I never really familiarized myself with how Geo abilities manifested whenever the Traveler used them. I just remembered that it hadn't been a popular ability to use and that most people stuck with Anemo.
After pushing myself off the ground and brushing the dust off the fabric, I decided to get a look at what had tossed me into the air.
…
It looked like some sort of curved rock construct. There were lines of gold running up the sides and surrounding the construct were crystals that protruded upwards that were the same color as the lines. On top of the construct was a flat slab of rock that could be used as a platform.
"Uh…"
I poked the structure.
You know, I was kind of expecting a pillar rather than a boulder. Exactly how was this supposed to help me in a fight? More like it would give my opponent an advantage in battle height wise or give them some breathing space while I wasted precious seconds leaping on to the platform to knock them right off again.
Then how did it send me flying earlier? I didn't go very far, but still. The worse it would have done had it risen underneath me was knock me off my feet and onto the platform's hard surface. I thought back to the moment before I found myself airborne and remembered the feeling of being off balance for barely a second.
But that small fragment of time had been enough as I realized what happened.
I must have been standing at the very edge of the raised platform before my impromptu flight. Which then knocked me off balance due to one foot being on the ledge while the other tried to find ground on a surface that did not exist. The speed at which I had been suddenly elevated had enough momentum to throw me into the air.
Okay.
I turned my body and tilted my head upwards to glare (again) at the statue that seemed to be sneering down at me.
"Are you kidding me?!" I'm pretty sure that I must have looked insane yelling at the Geo Archon's statue. Or blasphemous. I guess it depends on who you ask. "All of your powers and all you can do is give me the ability to create an elevated platform?!"
My thoughts of Morax being a complete and utter cheap out was interrupted by a flare of a power behind me. Emphasized even more by a loud thud that sounded like it had come from right behind me . I whirled around, jumping back to put as much distance between me and the individual who had appeared without warning while I summoned the Skyblade into my hands. The blade in my hand crackled with electricity as I held it in my hands ready to go onto the offensive.
Standing in front of me was a youth with dark hair that had teal undertones to it. He was wearing a mostly sleeveless white shirt with a high black and gold collar. One of his arms was concealed by a form fitting black sleeve that almost looked like a glove with a white looser white sleeve overtop, the pattern matching the white of the shirt. His bottom half was completely purple.
The most noticeable thing about the youth, however, was the black mask he was currently wearing that concealed his face. The mask reminded me of one of those Japanese oni that represented rage. The ones with the fangs jutted out of the lips on a curve.
But I recognized the youth even with the vicious mask on. Even if it had been who knows how long it had been since I last saw him.
It was Xiao. The last of Morax's yaksha warriors.
"So it is you." The yaksha said. "Selena."
He removed his mask and gold cat slitted eyes stared at me in disbelief. Almost as if he couldn't believe his eyes.
"Hello, Xiao." I waved at him. "Long time no see."
I wondered how long it had been since I'd last been in Teyvat. The battlefields that had once been filled with corpses and soaked in blood were gone, replaced by a gentle breeze and tall grass. The air that used to be tainted with the smell of copper and rot instead reminded me of fields fresh after it rained as the scent of petrichor permeated the area.
When my children were born, I realized that someday I would return to this world, fate be damned. After all, I knew that they would become firmly entrenched in the affairs of this world over two thousand years after my siblings and I left.
They were the main characters of this story after all.
They were also the villains of this story.
A story that, in my past life, was called Genshin Impact.
Welp this is the last of my updates for this fic until next time! As you can tell this is a lot different than the other fic, Quaesitor which was written by the seat of my pants and not plotted out. But I appreciate that people liked it a lot if the amount of Followers and Favorites for the story are any indication.
Anyways, leave me a review and tell me what you think of the story! Reviews leave me a lot of inspiration and I would love to hear what many of you think!
