It wasn't long before all the first years were doing written exams. They needed to pass these to get into the second year. To make sure there was no foul play, the students were all given a quill, that had been enchanted with an anti cheating spell.
The final exam was on history of magic, and they were relieved when it was finally over, and they now had a whole week until they got their results in. The main six sat under a tree near the black lake, enjoying the sunshine. Their first year at Hogwarts was soon coming to an end. "I'm not looking forward to going back home, my parents are going to be pissed when they find out I didn't win the house cup" said Pacifica. "To think that we won't be allowed to use magic for two whole months" said Mabel. "Do you think we passed our exams?" asked Dipper. "Because I don't think I want to repeat the first year." "I know I passed mine, i'm absolutely confident" said Hermione. "Harry, you should probably see Madame Pomfrey about you scar" said Ron. Harry's forehead had been burning during the exams, and he kept putting his hand to his forehead. "I'm not sick, I think it's some type of warning" he said. Harry then saw an owl passing by, and had a realization. "Okay, we need to go to Hagrid's right now." "What's the emergency"? asked Pacifica. "Think about it, who just casually walks into a pub with an illegal dragon's egg"? asked Harry.
They then ran to Hagrid's hut. "Hello you lot, you look like yer sweltering" said Hagrid. "Can I get ye something to drink?" "Not now, we need to ask you something" said Harry. "That guy who gave you the dragon's egg, what did he look like?" "Couldn't tell, his face was hidden by a cloak" said Hagrid. "What did you talk about"? asked Harry. "Not much, I told him a bit bout Hogwarts" said Hagrid. "I told him I always wanted a dragon, and he said he'd give one to me, but only if I can handle it." "I told him a dragon would be nothin compared to Fluffy." "Did he seem interested in Fluffy?" asked Harry. "O course, it's not every day ye see a three headed dog" said Hagrid. "I told him that tamin Fluffy was easy, just play em a bit of music and he'll go right to sleep." Hagrid suddenly looked alarmed. "I shouldn't've told ya that, forget what I said." The group then ran back to the castle.
When they got to the entrance hall, Professor McGonagall was surprised to see them. "What are you doing inside on a beautiful day like this"? she asked. "We're going to Proffesor Dumbledore's office" said Pacifica. "Why on earth do you want to see Professor Dumbledore?" asked McGonagall. Dipper quickly thought of a lie. "Well seeing as how the year is going to end, we thought we'd give him a parting gift." "We'll you are a little late, Professor Dumbledore left 10 minutes ago" said McGonagall. "He received an important owl from the ministry, and flew off at once." "But rest assured he'll be back tomorrow." She then walked away. Then Snape walked in. "And what would three young Gryffindor's being inside on a day like this?" he asked. "We were discussing strategy for the upcoming match against Ravenclaw" lied Dipper. "Well this strategy better not involve you attacking me again Mr Pines" said Snape. "If you were in Slytherin and your fate rested with me, i'd have you clean my potions classroom from top to bottom WITH YOUR BARE HANDS!" "And I better not see any of you out of bed again, or I will make sure that expulsion will be in order." He then stormed off. "Hermione, you go follow him to see what he does next" said Harry. "If you asks you what you're doing, just tell him you'd like to see Professor Flitwick." "We'll be guarding the forbidden corridor."
But as Harry, Ron, Dipper, Mabel, and Pacifica were pacing around the forbidden corridor, Professor McGonagall spotted them. "What do you think you are doing?" she boomed. "Students are not allowed around in this part of the school." "Actually the rule says we can't go in the third floor corridor, it doesn't say anything about being near it" said Pacifica. "And what on earth are you trying to accomplish, being near this corridor?" asked McGonagall. "Well we're curious to find out what's behind the door, but knowing that we can't go in there, we thought we'd find out by putting our ears up to it and listening in" said Mabel. "While you are technically not breaking school rules, you are still meddling with things that don't concern you" said McGonagall. "If you put one toe out of line, i'll be taking away another 50 points." Not wanting to push their luck, they went back to the common room.
They met up with Hermione there, and she was disappointed. "I tried my best, but I couldn't get anything out of Snape" she said. "Then i've got no choice, i'll just have to go down the trapdoor tonight, and beat him to the stone" said Harry. "But Harry, we're all on thin ice already, Gryffindor can't lose the house cup more than it already has" said Pacifica. "The house cup doesn't matter anymore, if Snape gets that stone, then Hogwarts is over" said Harry. "Voldemort will fully take over the school, and we'll all be dead." "I know I might get caught out of bed again, but it's a risk i'm willing to take." "But there's no way that all six of us will fit under the cloak" said Ron. "What are you talking about?" asked Harry. "As if you're going in there by yourself" said Mabel. "All six of us have been together this whole time, and we'll stay together all the way through" said Hermione. "Well only half of us can fit under the cloak, the other half needs to be extra careful" said Harry. Dipper, Mabel, and Pacifica volunteered to walk outside the cloak. "Then it's settled, we're going down the trapdoor tonight" said Harry.
That night, they all waited in the common room, for everyone else to go to bed. Mabel told her cat Posy to behave herself, if she didn't make it back. Harry got his invisibility cloak, and the flute that Hagrid had made him for Christmas. They were about to leave the common room, when Neville stopped them. "What do the six of you think you're doing?" he asked. "Neville, you have to trust us on this one" said Mabel. "You guys can't go out tonight, you'll get Gryffindor into trouble again" said Neville. "I won't let you lose Gryffindor any more points." He then held up his fists. "I'll fight you if I have to. "Neville please, we can resolve this conflict without violence" said Pacifica. "You told me to stand up for myself" said Neville. "Not to your own friends" said Ron. "I'll really really sorry about this Neville" said Hermione, as she pointed her wand at him. "Petrifificus totalus." Neville froze up, with his arms going right to his sides. He then fell face forward on the ground. "What did you do?" asked Harry. "The full body bind curse" said Hermione. "It's alright Neville, everything will be explained sooner than you think" said Dipper. Harry, Ron, and Hermione then got under the cloak. The six of them then left the common room.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione were able to take more chances under the invisibility cloak while Dipper, Mabel, and Pacifica had to be a lot more careful. They almost got seen by Mrs. Norris. Just before they reached the staircase to the forbidden corridor, the U.S students laid back, while the U.K students went ahead to scare peeves away.
They arrived at the door to the forbidden corridor, and saw that it was already halfway open. They carefully crept inside, and saw a harp. "Snape must have used the harp to lull Fluffy to sleep" said Hermione. The three heads sniffed at them, until Harry played his flute. Fluffy then went back to sleep. They made their way over to the trapdoor, and slowly opened it. Nothing, there was nothing but pitch blackness down there. Harry then handed the flute to Hermione, so she could keep the dog occupied. "I'm going in there first, if anything happens to me down there, do not follow me" said Harry. "Go straight to the owlery, and send Hedwig to Dumbledore." Harry then jumped down, and called up to them. "It's a soft landing, it's safe to jump." Mabel jumped in, then Pacifica, then Ron, then Dipper, then Hermione.
They found themselves, sitting on some type of vine. "This plant must be here to break the fall" said Harry. "Lucky that it's here" said Ron. "It's not lucky, it's trying to grab hold of us" said Hermione. "The plant's vines were wrapping around them, and Mabel was the first one to get out of it's clutches. "She knew that it was a devil's snare, and that it hated sunlight. She pointed her wand at the plant and shouted "INCENDIO!" The plant caught on fire, and released the grip from everyone else. "Quick thanking Mabel, that almost killed us" said Pacifica. Dipper was so relieved, that he gave his sister a hug.
They went down a stone passageway, and came into a room with a large amount of birds. There was a door on the other end of the room. "It's now or never, we have to run for it" said Harry. They ran through the room, and were surprised that the birds weren't attacking them. They tried to open the door, but it was locked, not even the alohamora charm seemed to work. "Wait a minute, those aren't birds, those are keys" said Harry. "And look, broomsticks" said Ron. "It's obvious what he have to do, we have to catch one of those keys to unlock the door" said Pacifica. The six of them mounted the brooms, and took off. They managed to find the right key, and it was the one with the bent wing. They worked together to corner it, and brought it back down to unlock the door.
The room they entered next was pitch dark, and when it lit up, they could see a giant chess board. There were several tall black pieces, looking as if they were made from black stone. On the other side of the board, were several tall white pieces. At the very end of the room was another door. "I think I know what we have to do, we need to play our way across the room" said Ron. He then touched one of the black nights. The man on the black horse looked down at him. "Do we have to join you in order to pass?" asked Ron. The knight nodded in confirmation. "I mean no offense, but I am better at chess than any of you" said Ron. "I'm not the kind of person to boss others around, but you need to follow my instructions in order to get through." They all nodded in agreement. Ron then gave out the orders. "Hermione, you take the queen side rook, Dipper, you take the king side." "Harry, you take the queen side bishop, Mabel, you take the king side. "Pacifica, you'll be the queen. "I'll be the king side night. The pieces nodded in agreement, and stepped off of the board, to allow our heroes to take the empty spaces.
The game started with one of the white pawns moving forward two spaces. The game was chaos, with pieces being destroyed all over the place. Ron kept making strategic decisions, giving orders to his friends and the black pieces. He also had to make sure that none of the human pieces got captured. But that got put to the test, when one of the white knights forked Dipper and Pacifica. "Uh oh, I don't see a way out of this one" said Ron. Dipper then turned to Pacifica. "You need to stay on the board, the queen is more valuable than the rook" said Dipper. "But that means that you'll get captured" said Pacifica. "It's for the greater good, we need to protect the philosopher's stone" said Dipper. Pacifica got tears in her eyes, and reluctantly stepped one square forward. The knight then moved two spaces, and was now facing Dipper. The horse slammed Dipper's chest hard with his front hooves, and Dipper could feel his ribs being crushed. He fell backwards, and barfed out some of his own blood, before passing out.
Authors note: Yep, i'm leaving you on a cliffhanger. Dipper knew what was at stake, and willingly took himself off the board, so that Pacifica wouldn't get hurt. I'm not going to spoil anything, but this will be important, 'much' later in the story.
As always if you have a suggestion or a prediction for a future chapter, feel free to let me know in a review.
