Hailey's life was finally getting back on track and it had been around two months since Matt had got sentenced to 30 years in prison. She could now life her life without having to worry about him. She was nearly four months pregnant and she had decided to keep the baby, it wasn't the babies fault and she didn't want to get rid of it when she could see something good coming out of this. Jay still wasn't back at work which was driving him insane

"Hailey, you still happy being behind that desk" Voight said

"Nope, but I know it had to be done... sarge, is there anymore news about Jay being able to come back to work?"

"I've been trying to clear it with the deputy but with him being in a wheelchair, we're worried it could make his psychological health worse"

"Yeah I know, I can't just see it's driving him insane"

"I know but look after yourself, he's a big guy"

Jay's POV

Today was my sixth session with the physiotherapist, I was getting better I knew I was. I was fighting it because I wanted this so bad.

"Anymore movement jay?"

"A little, I can feel my feet, my legs still feel very heavy but I get some twinges every now and again"

"That's good Jay, you've come on amazing Jay, you couldn't feel anything three weeks ago"

"This can happen after trauma though right, the loss in sensation"

"Yeah jay, after looking at your scans, there's no actual signs of damage to your spine but there was that much bruising and swelling this was all very much possible"

"I just want to get to a point where I can walk, even a little bit. Just so I can how Hailey and eventually get back to work"

"It's good you're this positive jay, it will help a lot with your recovery"

Jay spent the morning doing stretches and moving his feet and trying to move his legs. Doing all this meant jay could try and regain the feeling in his legs again. He knew he could do it but was just wishing it would come sooner.

A little while later, the team were out working a case. Hailey was sat at her desk as she wasn't allowed out with them, platt called her down. She walked down the stairs and platt told her jay was outside. She walked out the district,

"What are you doing here jay?"

"I was bored and wanted to see if Voight was here"

"He's out on a case jay, I did speak to him about you and he said it's going to take time for everything to get back to normal"

"I know but even desk duty?"

"He thinks it's too soon, emotionally"

"But you're back"

"I know Jay but he just thinks that after everything and you still being in a wheelchair, it will be hard for you, tiring"

"I need to do something Hailey."

"You are jay, you're healing"

"Without this job, I have nothing"

"Yes you do jay. You have me. I need to get back to work" Hailey walked back inside and jay left the district. Hailey walked up the stairs and platt was at the desk, she took a step up the stairs and nearly fell as she felt faint, platt looked over and ran from behind the desk,

"Hailey, are you ok?"

She straightened herself up and looked at platt, "I just felt, a little faint"

"Why don't you take a seat?"

"I'm ok, thanks Trudy"

Hailey took another step up the stairs and she fell back down another step, platt caught her as she slipped, "okay let's take a seat in here"

Platt helped her walk into the office and sat down in a chair, "how far along are you now Hailey?"

"13 weeks"

"Okay, and have you felt like this all day"

Hailey wiped her forehead as she was sweating, platt touches her head and looked at her, "you've got a fever"

"Yeah now I think about it I really don't feel great, do you think I should get checked out?" Hailey asked

"Yeah I think that might be best, I'll take you"

"Trudy you don't have to-"

"Nonsense, the desk is covered and I'm not letting you go alone"

Platt helped Hailey stand up and helped her walk outside to the car. They drove to med where they walked inside and saw Maggie stood at the desk,

She walked out from behind it and looked at Hailey, "are you ok?"

"She's been running a fever all day, she's been faint and we thought it would be best if she got checked out" platt explained

"Of course, follow me in here" Maggie said going into the empty bay. Hailey crawled up on to the bed and rested her head on the pillow.

Maggie did some checks on Hailey, she had a really high temperature and her blood pressure was a little high. She pulled over the ultrasound machine and Hailey pulled her T-shirt up,

"Let's have a look" Maggie said

Maggie looked at the screen as she moved the probe around Haileys stomach, she placed the back down and wiped haileys stomach,

"The baby is growing fine, strong heartbeat and you're about 13 weeks. You have a fever Hailey but I'm worried that your dehydrated so I want to keep you for a little while just so we can give you some fluids and monitor that temperature because it is very high, I also-" Maggie looked back at the screen

"What is it Maggie, what did you see?"

" I'll be back in just a minute"

Hailey put her head back, "somethings wrong. I know it is" she said to platt. Platt grabbed her hand and squeezed it. We don't know that yet. After about 10 minutes, Maggie came back in with jays brother Will, who was a doctor.

"What's going on?" Hailey asked

"I just got Will to come and explained because he's more qualified in this kind of thing"

"When you were in med after everything happened, I was writing up your notes and you had quite a lot of damage to your stomach and when Maggie was looking at your scan, it looks like there is something not quite right with the womb. I'm a little worried that you're suffering from a placental abruption and it looks like there is a little bit of bleeding"

"What about the baby?"

"So the baby is healthy but having this happen so early on in the pregnancy, there's a large change that you could lose the baby"

"What can I do to stop that?" Hailey asked

"Surgery-"

"Do it"

"Hailey just wait. There are risks to this"

"There's risk to everything I do Will. I can't lose this baby"

"The other option is that you stay in bed rest until this baby is born"

"That's 6 months Will, I need this fixing. I need this baby"

"Are you sure about this Hailey?"

"Yeah, I can't lose this baby"

"We can schedule the surgery for later today"

"Hailey, do you want me to call jay?" Platt said

"Yes please. And let Voight know, he'll be worried if he gets back and I'm not there and my things are "

A couple hours later

Jay was in haileys room sat in the chair waiting for her to come back from surgery. Voight walked in,

"Hey, I just got off a case"

"She's still in surgery"

"Did they say how long she would be?"

"A few hours or as long as it takes they said... I can't help but think this is my fault"

"Non of this is your fault jay"

"I've been stressing her out too much about work and everything"

"We've both been through a hell of a lot, you need to cut yourself some slack"

"I just know how much this baby means to her and-"

"Jay, listen to me. This is not your fault, I know you were probably freaking out on the phone but she has had this injury since she got attacked and this wasn't caused by you. I know you want to come back to work Jay but you need to take your time to heal and work on getting better. Hailey is at work but she is on desk duty and if I thought for a second that she shouldn't be there, I wouldn't let her be"

"I just miss being able to work and run after people, I'm bored"

"How to physio?"

"I've been feeling my feet for a couple out weeks now, some movement in my legs but I haven't been walking yet"

"Thats great jay"

"Does Hailey know?"

"No, I haven't told her yet. I know I've still got a long way to go but I want to be able to walk"

"I understand that Jay but you need support with this. She can help you with physio jay"

"I'll talk to her when she is feeling better"

"It's great that you're starting to feel like that, the movement and that. You're a fighter jay and always have been"

"Thanks Voight"

"I've got to get back to the district but please call me if anything changes"

"I will do"

Jay sat next in the chair waiting and waiting until the door slid open and haileys bed was pushed in,

"Hey how is she?" He asked the doctor

"She did really well, with a steady healing process and bed rest, she will make a full recovery and the baby will continue to grow as expected"

"Thanks doc" jay said as he left.

He grabbed haileys hand and kissed it, " we're going to be ok" jay said as she was still asleep in the bed.

Jay sat back in the chair holding her hand and drifted off to sleep. About two hours later he felt a pulling on his hand and he opened his eyes, he saw Hailey looking at him. He quickly sat up and looked at her,

"You're ok?"

"I'm ok" she said, "is the baby?"

"The baby is fine Hailey, healthy"

She sighed with relief and looked at jay, "I'm so sorry" he said to her

"It's okay jay"

"No it's not Hailey. I was being so selfish. We're both alive and we are ok and that is all that should matter."

"I love you jay"

"I love you Hailey and never want to be without you"

"Let's get married" she said

Jay laughed and looked at her, "married?"

"Yes. You are the most important person in my life jay and I always want us to be together. You, me and this baby"

"Yes" jay said

"Yes?"

"Let's get married" he said leaning over to kiss her.
