Hailey was now home in bed rest and jay was asleep next to her in bed. Jay moved the blanket off of him and got out of bed and into his wheelchair. Hailey tossed and turned and then woke up,
"Jay, where are you going?" She asked
"I've got physiotherapy in about an hour so I need to get down to med"
"Want me to come with you?"
"No im good, honestly. You rest" he blew her a kiss as he left the bedroom. Hailey fell back to sleep and jay left. He got to med about 20 minutes before his appointment and he saw Will walking down the corridor.
"Will.."
"Hey bro. How you doing?" He said
"I'm good. I've got physio today but was a little early so I thought I'd come down and say hello"
"Hows Hailey?"
"She's good now she's home resting"
"I may of heard over some talking that there's a congratulations in order" Will said
"What about?"
"An engagement"
"Ohh yes. That is true"
"Congrats man"
"Thanks, I've gotta go to my appointment but I'll catch you later"
Jay went into the room where his physio took place,
"Hey jay" the pt said
"Hey"
"How you been feeling? Been doing those exercises"
"Yeah I've been doing them a lot"
"But not too much?"
"Well I'm kinda trying to speed up this process. I'm getting married"
"Congratulations but you don't want to push yourself too much and injure yourself"
"I know but I'm ready to get there"
"It's only been nearly three months and you've done amazing. Some of the best healing and recovery I've ever seen"
"Thanks doc"
"Right, let's get you up"
Jay wheeled himself over and placed himself inbetween the two mental bars. He placed a hand on each bar and pulled himself up. The physiotherapist stood by his side,
"How does it feel?"
"I can feel my feet now, I've been being able to feel them more and more all week but now I'm on them. It feels real"
"Jay, can you try and take a step?"
Jay lifted his foot and placed it infront of the other one and took a step. He looked at his doctor who had a massive smile on his face and jay had tears in his eyes, "I told you I could do"
"Keep practicing jay. This is amazing"
Jay slowly but surely kept taking little steps until he got to the end of the rail. The doctor went to grab his wheelchair from the other side,
"Jay..."
Jay turned around and saw Will stood near the door,
"Will, were you watching?"
"All the way brother"
The physiotherapist stood in front of Jay, "how about some crutches?" Will said
"Let's not do too much hey" the physio said
"Let's try at least" jay said
He grabbed the crutches from and Will went to join him, jay put his arms in the crutches and started to take steps,
"How does it feel?" Will said
"I have to put a lot of pressure on the crutches but I can walk Will, I'm doing it"
Will patted jay on the back and jay sat back down into his chair,
"This was amazing today Jay, but later on you're gonna feel really tired so please don't try and and walk unless you're in this room. It can be exciting the thought of this happening but one fall could put you right back at the beginning" the doctor said
"I won't. Thankyou"
Will left the room with jay, "how excited are you to tell Hailey"
"I'm not telling her Will, not until I can actually walk to her properly"
"Jay she will want to know how this is going"
"I know, I know. I will tell her soon"
"Okay, well I'll catch you later"
Jay left the hospital and got back home. Hailey was stood in the kitchen with some coffee,
"Hey what are you doing up?" Jay said
"I've nearly 11am, I can't lay in bed all day Jay"
"You had surgery two days ago Hailey, you need to rest"
"I'm ok I promise.. how was physio?"
"Yeah it was ok, a little more movement"
"That's good jay, really proud of you"
Jay and Hailey spent the rest of the day on the couch watching movies,
"Are you bored yet?" Jay said
"Yes I am, I don't know how you were coping"
"I wasn't it but we're together"
"Actually.. I have some news" Hailey said
"What?"
"I spoke to Voight today and once I'm healed and better he's going to let me go back and work desk duty.."
"Ok"
"He also cleared it with the commander that you could come back on dear duty with"
"Are you joking?" Jay smiled
"Nope, as soon as we're feeling up to it. We can go back, also they're putting a temporary ramp in the back so you can get up to the bullpen"
Jay wrapped his arms around Hailey and kissed her head. He smiled at her as she looked so happy finally,
"I'm gonna walk you down that isle Hailey after we get married"
"Jay..."
"I promise Hailey"
Hailey kissed Hailey and yawned straight after making jay laugh, "come on, let's go to bed" Hailey got up first and jay jumped over into his wheelchair. Hailey got changed and got into bed as jay went into the bathroom and closed the door behind him. He grabbed hold of the side and pulled himself up in front of the mirror, he looked into the mirror at himself and smiled. He was finally standing up on his own. He sat back down in his chair and went to join Hailey in bed, Hailey rolled over on to jays chest and he stroked her hair as she went to sleep.
The next morning jay woke up and left early to go to the hospital. He went up to the correct floor and wheeled himself into the physio department,
"Jay?" He heard his pt say
"Hey..."
"You haven't got an appointment today"
"I know. I'm here for something else... a pair of crutches"
"Jay.. I don't know if I can"
"Please... I can stand, I can take steps. I was standing at home last night"
"Jay I said not to-"
"No listen, I need this. I need the crutches to help my leg muscles and not just that... my girlfriend proposed to me from her hospital bed after waking up from surgery where they saved her and our baby so I need to do something special for her"
"Jay.. if I give you these-"
"No is gonna know they are from you and nothing is going to happen"
The doctor passed jay the crutches and he placed them on his legs. He left the hospital and made his way home. He open his door and wheeled in and Hailey was sat on the couch,
"Hey.. where were you?"
"I went to see my physio"
"Crutches jay?"
"He gave them to me to keep them here for when I get to that point which will hopefully be soon"
"It'll be nice to see you walking again jay"
"I'm going to go in the shower and then I thought we could go to the district and see Voight"
"Okay, do you need any help?"
"No I'm okay Thankyou, I can get to the chair in the shower"
Jay wheeled himself into the bathroom and closed the door. He turned on the shower but turned away from it. He pulled himself up out of his wheelchair and he placed the crutches on his arms, he took a couple steps down the bathroom and walked back again. It took him a while but he got there in the end. He placed the crutches in the corner of the wall and pulled himself into the shower and sat down on the chair. Jay showered and got back out and got dressed. He went out into the room and Hailey was laid on the couch,
"Ready?" She said
"Yes"
Jay and Hailey left and went to the district. They walked through the back entrance and saw the ramp up the stairs,
"Wow just for me. I feel special"
"You are special" Hailey said laughing
They went upstairs and everyone was working at their desks,
"Look who it is" Adam said coming round the corner. Everyone gathered round and said hello when Voight came out of his office,
"Well aren't you a sight for sore eyes" he said hugging Hailey
Kim walked over to Hailey and grabbed her hand, "come on, I need to show you the cutest baby things"
Hailey followed Kim and jay looked at everyone, "well nice to see you all... Voight can we talk?"
"Come on in"
Jay wheeled himself in and closed the door,
"What's up?" Voight said
"I need to talk to you about something. So me and Hailey got engaged, Hailey proposed"
"Congratulations"
"But I need to do something special for her and actually propose. Now I've bought a ring but I need your help and a couple of the other guys help from here and maybe the fire house and med"
"What do you need help with?"
"I just need you to help me in making sure I can walk up to her and propose"
"Walk?"
"Yeah so.. hang on"
Jay put his brakes on and grabbed a hold of the desk and pulled himself up,
"Jay.." Voight said coming round to him
"I've been taking some steps with crutches this week. I've come on really quickly the pt said"
"That is amazing"
Jay sat back down in his chair and Voight smiled at him, "you've done amazing. We'll all help you, I'll organise it"
"Molly's tonight" jay said
Jay turned around and left the office,
"You ok?" Hailey said
"Yes, is it talking about returning to work" jay said
"Right we've gotta get to a scan jay, I forgot it was today. We've got half an hour"
"Baby brain" Kim laughed
Jay and Hailey left the district quickly and made their way to the hospital. They got to med and went up to the maternity ward. They got called through to the room and Hailey sat up on the bed,
"So how are you feeling after the surgery?" Her OB said
"Good, a lot better. No more fainting"
"Your stitches are healing really well, now let's have a look at the baby?"
"Yes.."
The OB looked at the screen as she swiped across her stomach,
"So now we can have a look properly with you not having to be rushed into surgery, your baby is 14 weeks and is growing perfectly"
Hailey looked at jay and smiled, "can we know the gender yet?"
"We can yes, it's a little bit early sometimes but I can see nice and clearly that your little baby is a baby girl"
"A girl..." jay said grabbing her hand
"A little girl" Hailey said looking at the screen.
Hailey and jay were driving home and we're on cloud 9. Hailey was driving about two minutes away from their house and she spoke about the baby the whole way while jay looked at the sonogram. Hailey was about to turn left when she slammed on the breaks and turned right,
"Hailey!" Jay said
"Sorry I'm- I'm going-"
"Hailey what's wrong?"
"I saw.. his.. brother?"
"Brother?" Hailey pulled over and parked up
"His twin brother"
"Hailey he can't hurt you anymore"
"His brother doesn't live here. He lives 200 miles away"
"He isn't here for you Hailey. You're safe"
"Yeah.."
Hailey get off driving and she turned around to drive home and when they drove past he was gone. She pulled up at home and got out. She grabbed jays wheelchair and he climbed into it.
"I'm taking you out tonight" jay said
"Where?"
"Mollys. A little catch up with everyone"
"Okay, what time?"
"7"
"Good, time for a nap" she laughed
Jay and Hailey went home and jay was getting everything ready for tonight. It was around half 6 and jay had got dressed and ready to go. Hailey walked out into the living room and jay was gathering his things to take with him,
"You look smart" Hailey said
"And you look gorgeous" jay said as Hailey walked out in a black dress
"Well it's been a while since we went out so we've got to make the most of it, especially around work and the baby coming"
They didn't live far from mollys so they decided to leave the car at the house and walk. They got to mollys and they went inside. Everyone was there drinking,
"Hello" jay and Hailey said to everyone as they went in
Everyone spent the evening talking to each other and it was the first time in a long time, Hailey and jay felt like their lives were getting back to normal,
Hailey walked over to jay who was talking to Will,
"How long are we staying for?"
"Not too much longer, just got to talk to Voight first" jay wheeled over to Voight and everyone started to gathered round and Hailey was stood near the bar talking to kim.
Jay was talking to Voight and Will when gabby came from behind the bar.
"I heard you wanted these" she said passing him the crutches. He took them and turned himself around, he took the crutches and stood up. He turned himself around and everyone parted and made a path for jay to walk, Hailey was facing away from jay and jay started to walk when the music started and everyone started to watch, Kim tapped haileys arm,
"Now for the real reason while you're here now"
Hailey turned around and saw jay,
"Jay.." Hailey stepped forward
"Stay there.. I'm coming" he said
Tears streamed from haileys face as she watched jay take his steps towards he. It took a while for him to do it but he reached Hailey, he took haileys hand and squeezed it,
"Hailey Upton, I have waited so long for this moment and I have wanted to do this so so long and now is my chance to do this properly... so Hailey Upton, will you me the honour of becoming my wife"
"Jay... I would be honoured."
Hailey wrapped her arms around jay and hugged him. "You can walk?" She cried
"I can walk Hailey. I wanted to surprise you. I worked so hard to get to this point"
"You're amazing jay. I'm so proud of you"
"I'm gonna be stood at the end of that isle waiting for you Hailey"
She wrapped her arms around jay and they spent the rest the evening being congratulated and spending time with their closest friends celebrating.
