Minerva smiled brightly at her husband as he saw Hogwarts Castle for the very first time! His chocolate eyes were wide and his jaw was slack. "This is where you work?" he asked amazed. "A bloody castle?"
Minerva chuckled at his expression and pressed her lips to his lovingly. "Aye," she answered, her Scottish brogue ever-present. "Shall we give you the grand tour?"
Dougal nodded his head and smiled as Minerva looped her arm through his. The gates sprang open by her mere touch. They slowly walked up the well walked path towards the school. She pointed out the Black Lake, the Whomping Willow, and the Forbidden Forest along with tidbits of knowledge about each.
"Hello Minerva," Albus Dumbledore greeted as he came out of the main doors. "I wasn't expecting you until the end of August."
Minerva smiled at him before speaking, "I'm not staying. I merely wanted to resign my Head of House position so you will have adequate time to find a replacement."
"Resign," he asked suprised.
"I will not be residing in the castle this year," she revealed. "My husband and I shall be moving to Hogsmeade."
"Husband," he repeated suprised. "I was unaware you married."
Minerva smiled at her friend before explaining, "Dougal and I are soulmates. We married yesterday evening."
"That's wonderful," Albus said. "I'm happy for you my dear." He turned towards Dougal and held his hand out. "I'm Albus Dumbledore. I am the Headmaster here."
"Pleasure," Dougal said as he shook the man's hand. "Dougal McGregor."
Minerva smiled before adding, "Dougal grew up in Caithness with me. He thought he was a muggle until this morning when I took him to Gringotts to add him to my vault."
"He's not a muggle?" Albus asked, amused at the happiness his normally stoic friend was expressing.
Minerva shook her head negatively. "Dougal is the Ravenclaw heir. He just claimed his Lordship."
Albus' jaw dropped open wide as he stared at the man before him. "I thought the line died out," he whispered amazed.
"Gringotts sent the notification to the Ministry of Magic this morning along with our marriage certificate," Minerva offered with a grin. "It should make for a spectacular Daily Prophet!"
Albus nodded his head in agreement and grinned at his friend. "I imagine so," he chuckled. "I have a meeting to get to at the Ministry. I may just make some inquiries while I am there. Be sure to take him to meet the Grey Lady!"
"I shall," Minerva answered as she tugged Dougal inside of the castle. "Where do you want to start the tour?"
"Your bedroom," he quipped with a grin.
Minerva laughed happily at her husband. "How about we end the tour there?" she answered as she dragged him throughout the castle showing him everything she could.
"You're incorrigible," she laughed as she smacked his wandering hand away.
"Can't help it," he replied. "I have decades to make up for!"
Minerva kissed him gently before exiting her chambers. They had spent a delightful few hours investigating each other as she promised. She headed towards the Ravenclaw common room in hopes of finding The Grey Lady. "Lady Helena," she called to the ghost floating just before them.
The ghost stopped and turned around. "Professor McGonagall," she greeted politely. She tilted her head to the left as she stared at Dougal. "You look like someone I used to know."
Minerva smiled at the ghost. "This is my husband Dougal McGregor," she introduced. "We just discovered he was the Ravenclaw heir."
The Grey Lady smiled happily as tears coursed down her face. "You look like Donavon O'Neil," she said. "He was a muggle in a nearby village that I fell madly in love with."
"You left Hogwarts to hide your pregnancy," Minerva guessed.
Helena nodded her head. "Mother found out I was seeing a poor muggle and was furious with me," Helena said. "She didn't care he was a muggle. She was afraid he was using me for my vaults. Once I found out I was pregnant, I ran off and married him. I gave birth to a sweet baby girl named Sarah."
"What happened to Sarah?" Minerva asked.
"The Baron caught up with us in Albania," Helena revealed sadly. "I exhausted my magic to hide my husband and child from view before he killed me."
"I have an old trunk at the farm with various pictures of family and trinkets in it," Dougal said. "I am not sure who all of the people in the photos are but I do know most of them are from my mother's side of the family. I can bring them to the castle if you would like to see them."
Helena smiled widely. "I would love to see them," she whispered emotionally then looked to Minerva. "You will at least birth him one child?"
"I shall," Minerva promised. Helena Ravenclaw smiled happily before floating off.
"You can still have children?" Dougal asked confused. "I thought women stopped near 40 years old."
Minerva smiled at him. "Muggle women stop at 40 years old. I can safely have children for decades yet."
"Decades?" he asked suprised. "How long do magical people live?"
Minerva smiled at him. "To two hundred or so," she answered. "Squibs mostly live to 150 or longer."
Minerva was unprepared by the searing kiss he gave him and panted heavily once it ended. "I would have been happy with just the two of us for however long we had left," he admitted. "Now that I know children are a possibility, I desperately want them!"
"Them as more than one?" Minerva questioned with a raised eyebrow. Dougal nodded his head yes. "Very well," she agreed. "A house full of them but you will be responsible for them while I teach."
"With pleasure," he responded and kissed her passionately in the hallway of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Minerva laid the Daily Prophet down on the kitchen table and smiled at Dougal. "We made the front page," she announced. "It was straightforward. Either Albus spoke to the editor or they were afraid of how we would have responded."
"Does it mention me being a squib?" he asked curiously.
"It does," Minerva answered. "It was how they explained I controlled the Ravenclaw votes in the Wizengamot. It also mentioned I would only retain voting rights until we have a magical heir of age."
Dougal snorted in amusement. "What else did the article mention?"
"We were childhood sweethearts," she grinned and showed him a picture of them. "Màthair undoubtedly supplied the photograph."
"That's a good one," he said and stole a kiss from his wife.
"Our small wedding service and us being soulmates were mentioned," Minerva added. "Màthair supplied a wedding photo as well."
"How'd she managed that?" Dougal asked suprised. He laughed as he saw the photograph. He was dressed in his finest at some church social and Minerva was dressed in an ivory satin and lace dress. Picture Minerva had her hair pulled up in an elaborate braid.
"She's combined separate pictures somehow. At least now we have a wedding photo!"
Dougal stared at Minerva sadly. "I cheated you out of the wedding of your dreams," he said.
"No love," she reassured him. "I am a private person as are you. I just meant we have something to show our children one day." With that, she straddled his lap and kissed him fiercely.
