Chapter 12: The "Cure"

After that whole incident with telling the children about Death Eaters, Narcissa had been a little worried Harry would treat Draco differently upon learning her son's father was willing apart of their cause. But to her surprise and relief that was not the case. Harry had looked at her with a bewildered expression when she pleaded with him not to hold a grudge against her son because of his father and the boy said, "Why would I do that? Draco's always been my friend just like Neville. I don't care who his father is." The boys statement nearly floored her. He didn't think like a seven year old. He was far more mature for his age than anyone had suspected.

After that their lives moved on normally. They began to get frequent visits from the Greengrass', mostly because Astoria wanted to play with her 'big brother Harry'. Even Luna and Susan began coming around often. A few weeks later Arthur Weasley came by with the twins and Ginny. He gave Draco a bow and profusely apologized for his youngest son's behavior promising him the boy had been reprimanded and assuring him that neither himself, his wife or any of their other children thought ill of him just because of who his father was. Draco had thanked him and after that the younger Weasley's, aside from Ronald who was refusing to apologize to 'The Snake', were allowed to visit and play with the other children.

It was around this time Sirius began to seriously consider naming Draco his Heir. When he spoke to Narcissa about it she gasped, "Are you sure about this?" She asked.

"Yes I've thought long and hard about it Cissy." He told his cousin, "You know who my partner is. We won't be able to have children, but I still need an Heir. Draco is a kind, smart, respectable boy who is of the Black Family Bloodline so with your permission I'd like to formally adopt him as my Heir."

Narcissa looked at her cousin surprised, "I would like to ask Draco if he's alright with that, if he doesn't mind then I don't have an issue with it."

Hours later they had sat Draco down and spoke with him on the matter. Draco listened to what Sirius was asking then looked to him, "If I agree will that make you my father Uncle Sirius?"

"Technically, yes." Sirius told the boy, "Your mother would still be your mother but legally and magically, I would be your father."

Draco smiled, "I'd like that!" he said immediately jumping up and hugging Sirius's waist.

Sirius hugged him back, "Thank you Draco." Narcissa smiled at this. Her son was choosing his father not letting his blood dictate who his family was.

Another two years went by, Severus Snape had been spending many holidays at the lab Lily had left him going over the research on Lycanthropy she had been working on before her death. He had been studying her work for the last seven and a half years without getting many results. He was determined to solve this as Lily had requested. It was the Easter Holidays so he was once again at the lab trying to decipher Lily's notes. His long black hair was tied back and he had reading glasses sitting on his nose.

Severus sighed, "Come on Lils…what were you trying to do here?" he said to himself as he pulled another piece of parchment toward him. He looked it over slowly then his eyes widened. "That's it!" he shouted. He quickly stood and began running around the room gathering ingredients, "You said it was a 'cure' so I was looking at it all wrong…you always did love your riddles." He said as he lit the fire under his cauldron and began working with a vengeance.

Three days had gone by, Minerva McGonagall was home from Hogwarts. She had spent the first few days at Hogwarts finishing some work before heading to the manor to spend the remaining days with Harry. She was at Sirius' home sitting with the two of them and Narcissa while the boys were playing upstairs with Neville who was sleeping over. Minerva sighed and sat back with her glass of iced tea.

"You look exhausted Minnie." Sirius told her.

"You have no idea!" she said, "Since taking over as Headmistress I have had to find a new Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor every single year. They always either quit or are so incompetent I have no choice but to fire them. The one this year has already submitted his notice stating he won't be back next year."

"My word?" Narcissa said, "Why do you think they leave on their own?"

"They get spooked when other professors tell them that Voldemort put a curse on the post after Dumbledore refuse to allow him to teach it before he started the war." Minerva explained.

"Ugh cowards." Sirius griped he then looked to his mate who had a sad expression on his face. "Remy love? What's the matter?"

"Nothing I just wish I could do it." Remus said.

Minerva looked to him, "You want to be a professor at Hogwarts?"

"I'd love to teach at Hogwarts." He said smiling faintly, "It would be so amazing to help create the next generation of witches and wizard, but I'd never be allowed to do it. If people found out I was a werewolf they would demand my termination." His smile faded.

Minerva frowned as well. She knew Remus would be an excellent professor, and he wouldn't be scared of by rumors of Voldemort's curse. However he was right, if parents found out he was a werewolf they'd protest his appointment to the post. She was trying to think if she could find a way around that when Severus burst through the front door, "I DID IT!" he exclaimed.

Severus looked as if he hadn't slept in a couple of days, "What are you talking about Sev?" Narcissa said.

Severus reached into his cloak and pulled out a clear crystal phial with an azure blue liquid swirling around inside, "I finished Lily's research!" he said.

Remus eyes widened, "Are you sure? You said you couldn't figure out her notes."

"Because I was looking at all wrong!" he walked up to Remus, "In the will she talked about a 'cure' which was misleading. What she was working on wasn't a cure. Lycanthropy can not be cured because it is now apart of your genetics." He said spouting off the muggle science Lily had included in her research. "But it can be controlled." He told them.

"Doesn't the wolfsbane potion offer one control?" Sirius asked.

"No, the wolfsbane potion allows the werewolf in question to be able to think rationally while transformed. It doesn't prevent the transformation!" he held up his potion, "This will make so you will never have to fear transforming again!"

Remus eyes widened as he stood and looked at the potion, "You're sure?" he asks.

"If mine and Lily's hypothesis are correct yes we need to run a test!" Severus said, "Remus the full moon is three days away. You have your cell in the basement here instead of taking the wolfsbane…will you test this for us?" he held the potion out to him, "I have worked tirelessly for the last seven years on this…I'm confident it will work!"

Remus looked to Sirius, "What do you think love?"

"Lets test it." Sirius told him, "Worse case scenario the test fails you will be in the reinforced cell and we will know it doesn't work. Best case scenario…you never have to transform again, and you can take that post at Hogwarts."

Severus looked to Minerva hearing that last part she waved her hand, "Later." She told him.

Remus turned back to Severus, "Okay how should we proceed?"

"You should take it first thing in the morning that day." Severus said, "As early as possible so it will have plenty of time to take effect before the full moon rises." He explains to him handing him the potion.

Remus took it and took a deep breath, "And your sure that even if it fails there won't be any bad after effects."

"Yes, everything used in that potion is a beneficial ingredient." Severus explained, "The worst that would happen is you will still transform."

Remus exhaled again, "Alright then."

Three days later Remus had woken up at the crack of dawn and drank the potion as requested. It tasted awful but was better than the wolfsbane potion. He immediately felt a strange sensation throughout his body. It felt as if two opposing forces, that had always fought against one another, were slowly calming and merging together. He took this as a positive sign and went about his day. By the time the sun had started to descend. Remus and Sirius sent Harry and Draco over to McGonagall Manor as they usually had when ever the full moon came around. When Minerva wasn't home they'd be sent to Neville's for a sleep over. They never wanted the boys to accidently happen upon Remus while he was transformed for fear of scaring them.

Remus was now behind the magically enforced cell they had built in the basement just for his transformations. Severus, who had been forced by Minerva and Narcissa to get rest while they waited for the full moon, and Sirius were standing a few feet away from the bars of the cell. Remus was wearing nothing but some muggle sweat pants revealing the scars that were all over his body. "Are you ready Remus?" Severus asked. He was holding a clip board and quill ready to take notes.

Remus nodded and exhaled. Sirius looked at his watch, to check the time, "Ten minutes before the full moon rises." He told Severus who wrote it down.

"How do you feel Remus?" Severus asked.

"Calm…which is new for me so close to the moon rising." the werewolf replies. Severus jotted that down.

"Did you notice anything this morning when you took the potion?" Severus asked.

"I felt a strange sensation as if two conflicting magics in my body were settling and joining together." Remus replied.

"That's a good sign that may indicate that you wolf essence and you wizard's magic are settling together." Severus said writing that down as well.

Ten minutes went by, "Its time." Sirius said. Both he and Severus watched Remus intently. The man stood their with no noticeable changes for a moment until suddenly it looked as if Remus' slender form was beginning to fill out and becoming more muscular. Some body hair appeared on his shoulders and arms. Remus wiggled his jaw a bit before opening his mouth to revealing his canines had sharpened themselves into fangs. The man exhaled and opened his eyes looking at the pair in front of him. His eyes were a bright golden yellow.

"Remus?" Severus asked, "Are you alright?"

"I feel wonderful." Remus said immediately, "I smell…everything. I can hear your heartbeats…Padfoot calm down I'm fine at the moment." He told his mate. Remus looked down at his body, "Wow…that was unexpected." He said rubbing his hands across his muscular arm playing with his bulging bicep for a moment. "Well that's interesting."

"Indeed." Sirius said looking at his lover lustfully.

"Down boy." Severus said, "There will be no fornicating until we are sure it is absolutely safe."

"I agree." Remus said, "I might accidently hurt you." Sirius pouted a bit but relented.

The three of them stayed down there the entire night Remus mild body changes never advanced any further. The only side affect seemed to be that Remus was exceedingly hungry, craving meat in particular. He ended up eating five large rare steakes before his hunger had been sated. When morning came Remus returned to his usual slender form though his muscles retained some of the acquired definition during the transformation.

Severus let him out and began examining his body checking seeing the fangs that were once there had receded returning to normal. The body hair that hair grown in had fallen off leaving it as bare as it was before. "Well…I'd consider this a success." He said to Remus, "I'd like to continue running tests for the next few months before we go public with this. Next month lets see what happens without the potion."

Remus consented, hours later Andromeda had arrived to run tests on Remus. She explain that the enhancement to Remus' physical appearance would like remain and quite possibly improve further with continued use of the new potion. Further more she detected that Remus's magical core was much stronger than it had been before. She attributed this to Remus' wolf essence and his magical core were no longer fighting against each other. Afterwards she requested to be present during their next test.

A month later they had Remus back in his cell he hadn't taken any potion this time and ended up having a full transformation. However he was not hostile at all in fact he looked at them curiously in his wolf form and tried to talk but was only able to give them yips and barks. He then started scratching into the floor with his claw to write to them. "He's completely conscious!" Severus said writing this down, "Remarkable."

Andromeda had conjured some blocks with letters on them making it easier for Remus to tell them things. He then spelled that he 'feels fine' then immediately move the blocks around to say 'But I'm Hungry'. Again they got him some large rare steaks however this time he ate at least twelve before he was satisfied. The next month he took the new potion again, and just like the first time he had the same extremely mild transformation. Enhanced physique and senses, increased appetite for meat, and sharpened canines. Andromeda ran diagnostic spells while he was in this state and deduced he was essentially healthy, and his magic core was stronger than any she's seen before.

When morning came, he returned to normal, and once again he retained even more of the muscular definition he had acquired during his partial change. Sirius wasn't complaining about that as admire his lovers new physique gently rubbing his hands on Remus' now bulging bicep after he had been let out of the cage. The next month was an out door test. The wards around the new manor had had an additional ward added that wouldn't allow Remus to leave. When the moon rose and Remus once again experienced his mild transformation they learned that while transformed like this he was incredibly fast.

They had fired harmless stunners at him and he would dodge with ease. Then Severus conjured a crossbow and fired it at him, much to Sirius disdain. Remus however caught the bolt millimeters before it could touch the skin of his shoulder where it had been aimed. Next they discover he was exceptionally strong in this form when he lifted Andromeda over his head with one hand. The woman squealed at this as she was balanced with Remus' hand placed on her lower back as she laid back flat.

After multiple months of tests they deemed Remus was completely safe in this state. However just to be safe they continued to send the boys elsewhere during full moons. One such night Remus and Sirius had began to get amorous with each other while Remus was in his new transformation, and had a very provocative night. However, during the middle of their escapades Remus had got lost in the moment and bit Sirius shoulder. He had immediately panicked when he realized what he done and ripped himself away from his lover. He called Severus and Andromeda immediately even though Sirius protested saying he was fine. When the two arrived they saw the bite mark and panicked at well while Remus was sobbing in a corner apologizing repeatedly.

Sirius had been healed easily since the bite hadn't been deep. It didn't even leave a scar which had surprised them since most bite marks and scratches one received from a werewolf were always permanent. They said they wouldn't be able to determine anything until the next full moon. When the next full moon came and nothing happened to Sirius they all were shocked. So they ran another test. While Remus was transformed, Andromeda had him bite her arm a bit harder than he had Sirius. He was reluctant but eventually did exactly as she asked. She winced when he did so, Remus bit her deeper than what he had done to Sirius.

She immediately ran diagnostic tests on her bite mark before healing it then told them there was no werewolf DNA in the mark only hers from her blood and that of another human's from Remus' saliva. Severus looked wide eyed at this; not only did this new potion prevent a full transformation, but it also prevented transmitting the disease to others. He smiled widely, "We did it Lily…" he had a tear run down the left side of his face.

A/N: Holy shit that last part was a scare. Poor Remus thought he had turned Sirius into a werewolf too. I expect their 'Sexcapdes' will be much hotter from now on let me know if you guys want me to write one of those scenes out...in detail. Severus is so proud he finally finished the research Lily had left behind. Now Remus can live a normal life. They definately need to make this public!

Up Next: It's Harry's tenth birthday and Minerva, Remus, and Sirius decide to take him on a holiday in France. There Harry meets a new 'bushy haired' friend.
