You all rock. Heading down to the beach today to relax. Hoping Bella gets to do that one day soon - RELAX!
"What the fuck is that?"
I don't have to look over at the gun on the table to know that is what Edward is referring to.
It's a cold metallic eyesore in the middle of a room colored in hues taken from the earth. The chamber is open and empty, and unless I plan on throwing it at someone's head, it's pretty useless in terms of saving my life.
Or anyone else's.
"It's not mine," I offer meekly. He smiles briefly before reaching for the gun on the table.
"Embry?" He asks as he turns it over slowly in his hands, his gaze never leaving the pistol in his hands. He's referring to Embry, Emmett's cousin.
"I guess," I answer, plopping down onto the couch, suddenly hearing a whisper of a laugh coming from Edward's direction. "What's so funny?"
His shoulders move up and down, and unable to hold it in any longer, he lets out a loud guffaw that even has the corners of my own lips twisting upwards in a smile.
"This," he laughs, dropping the gun back onto the table with a clang. "I could take a picture of this gun on this table, and it would be used to train others on what not to do when you have a gun in your possession."
"Why's that?"
"It's out," he deadpans. "In the open."
Our eyes drop to the object in question. So open, so out of place, it's actually just as funny as he's made it out to be.
"I know," I groan and cross my legs under me as I sit on the couch. "I was going to put it back where I found it as soon as I got the bullets."
Edward nods slowly in understanding. "Your errand into town yesterday."
"Yeah," I admit with a sigh. "Stupid, I know."
He shakes his head and sits down at the other end of the couch. "There's nothing wrong with wanting to be safe," he says gently. "Just don't think there's much use for it out here, is all."
"Maybe you're right," I reply. "You could be wrong, though."
"I could," Edward pauses. "But I've been coming up here since I was a kid, and there's never been a time when I've had to use one of these here."
"I hope I never have to."
"Is there a reason you think you would have to, Bella?"
"No."
The look in his eyes tells me he knows I'm lying.
See you tomorrow!
