I'm back. School is exhausting. My head hurts and I have tons of homework, so don't expect much update. Well, I held you guys long enough. On with the story.
Chapter 10: The Brave, The Bold, and The Banana Part II
Phantom felt someone shaking his shoulders, shouting at him to wake up. He slowly opened his eyes, groaning at the headache he has.
"Glad to see you up, buddy," Flash said as Phantom rubbed his head.
"Man…I had the weirdest dream," Phantom commented as he blinked the stars away. "I dreamed we were fighting a talking gorilla-."
He stopped when he noticed Solivar rubbing his head in pain.
"Okay, so it wasn't dream," Phantom said as Flash helped him up. He then looked around the area, expecting to see a lot of burn marks and fire, instead, it was damage free. "Did that explosion did something or was it just a light show?"
"I'm afraid it wasn't an explosion," Solivar explained as they made their way towards the exit. "It's a cloaking device, the same one that is used in Gorilla City."
"A cloaking device?" Flash asked.
"For what?" Green Lantern added.
"Does Gorilla City have Wi-Fi?" Phantom asked. He noticed Flash and Green Lantern looking at him. "What? Just curious."
They choose not to answer that and looked around the area. It was the same as they got in the lab.
"Where's the cloak?" Flash asked, looking at the sky.
"What does an invisible cloak supposed to look like, anyway?" Phantom asked, scratching his head.
"I'm going to check from above," Green Lantern said. He started glowing before he shot off to the sky.
"Wait!" Solivar shouted, but it was too late. As Green Lantern flew to the sky, he suddenly slammed into something as he reached the sky. Surprised by the sudden force, he started falling towards the ground.
Phantom quickly flew up and grabbed Green Lantern by the arm, lowering him slowly to the ground.
"Humans, always impatient," Solivar muttered before looking at the heroes. "I fear that the entire city is cut off from the rest of the world. The cloaking device is also a force field that can't be broken."
"You mean no one can go in?" Phantom said.
"Or out," Green Lantern said gravely.
"Is there a way to stop it?" Flash asked as he looked around the night sky.
"We first need to stop Grodd from whatever he's planning to do," Solivar said as he hefted the case he was wearing. "He may have what we need to disable the cloak."
"Then let's go and get us a smelly ape!" Flash exclaimed, punching his palm. He winced when Solivar glared at him. "I mean…get that Grodd!"
"Smooth," Phantom whispered sarcastically to Flash.
"Look," Green Lantern suddenly said, pointing at the city. The entire city was dark, except for the bright light in the center of the city.
"Looks like someone threw a party without us," Phantom said. "How about we crash it?"
Without any better ideas, the group traveled back to the city.
As they walked through the streets, they noticed that it was eerily quiet and empty.
"Geez, it's like walking in a ghost town," Flash commented, getting shivers.
"Not really," Phantom commented, knowing ghost towns were noisier than this. And more destructive.
"Where are all the people?" Green Lantern asked, using his ring to search through the buildings, finding them empty.
"Does that answer your question?" Solivar said as he pointed at an alleyway.
They looked and saw a large gathering of people gathered around the city hall. Curious, they silently walked towards the group and saw them cheering and shouting. Some were even holding torches, waving them around.
They looked who they were cheering for and saw to their shock that they were cheering for Grodd, who had a smug grin on his face. Beside him was Dr. Corwin, looking at Grodd with adoration.
"Uh…how many of these headbands do you have?" Phantom asked, looking at Solivar.
"Only three," Solivar replied. They then turned to Grodd, who was making speech.
"Guess anyone can be a celebrity nowadays," Flash said, cracking his knuckles. "How about we show him the downside of it?"
"Best idea you had all day," Phantom agreed, punching his palm.
"Wai-!" Solivar said, only for them to rush towards the crowd. "Are humans really this impatient?"
"Just them," Green Lantern replied before they followed them.
"As your new ruler, I will show you primitive humans that your purpose is to work and worship your superior, which is me," Grodd said in a smug tone, using his mind control helmet to make the citizens cheer for him.
"You have such a way with words," Corwin said with a smile.
Before the talking gorilla could reply, a green ray hit him in the chest, knocking him off feet. Everyone looked up and saw Phantom, his hand smoking. Flash suddenly appeared below him like a blur.
"Alright, Gorilla Grodd," Flash said, pointing at Grodd, who was being helped by Corwin. "Give up now, or else."
"Or else what?" Grodd asked, looking annoyed.
"I don't know, I'll go bananas on you," Flash replied as he crossed his arms.
"I don't have time to waste with you Neanderthals," Grodd scoffed as he and Corwin ran towards the flying motorcycle. "My subjects will handle you. Besides, I've got bigger fish to fry. Get them, my slaves!"
He ordered as his helmet glowed. The citizens suddenly started throwing things at Flash and Phantom, the latter turning intangible to avoid getting hit. Flash wasn't so lucky.
"Ow! Stop it! I'm trying to-ouch!" Flash shouted as he shielded himself with his arms. Suddenly, a green shield appeared around him, blocking the rocks and trash that was being thrown on him. He looked up and saw Green Lantern with Solivar behind him. "Thanks, GL!"
"Do you ever try to think before you act?" Green Lantern said as Solivar jumped down beside Flash.
"Sometimes…" Flash replied.
Phantom was firing at the shoes of the citizens, melting them and gluing them to the ground. He then noticed Grodd and Corwin flying away.
"Oh no you don't!" he shouted as he flew after them. Green Lantern, who was pushing the civilians back without hurting them, saw Phantom going after Grodd.
"I'm going after Phantom," Green Lantern said, looking at Flash and Solivar, who was firing at the ground to keep the people away. "You handle the civilians. Do not hurt them."
"Tell them that!" Flash said as he dodged a large rock.
Green Lantern then flew after Phantom, leaving Flash and Solivar with the hypnotized civilians. As they pushed the civilians back, the two girls Flash met at the diner was walking towards them.
"Hold it, big fella," Flash said as he stopped Solivar from firing at their feet. "I personally know these girls." He turned and gave a charming smile to the girls. "Hey girls. Remember me? We had lunch this morning. I saved you from a truck, with a little help from a friend, of course."
"Get him!" the girls shouted before throwing rocks at him.
"Ow! Hey!" Flash shouted as he backed away. "So much for gratitude!"
Soon, he and Solivar where surrounded, standing back to back.
"Got any ideas?" Flash asked as he dodged another rock and blocked a bat with his arm.
"I could set my gun to stun," Solivar suggested.
"No can do," Flash replied as he grabbed a crowbar and threw it away. He suddenly got an idea. "How much do you weigh?"
"Just a couple of your pounds," Solivar asked, confused. "Wh-aagh!"
He started when Flash suddenly carried him and ran through the crowd, who were knocked off their feet. Once they reached a safe distance, Flash put Solivar down, leaning on his knees.
"Just a couple?" Flash repeated, panting for air. "What now?"
"We must find Grodd," Solivar replied as he took out a tracking device from his bag. "This will lead us to him."
Meanwhile, Phantom was firing at some guards at a military base where Grodd went. He fired at the guards' hands to make them drop their guns before knocking them out with a weak ghost ray.
"Nice job," Green Lantern commented as he landed next to Phantom, looking at the unconscious guards.
"I tried to warn them," Phantom said with a shrug. "Besides, they'll only get a headache once they wake up. Now let's go stop Grodd before he-."
He stopped talking when alarms were heard from the building and the ground starting shaking. They looked at the base and saw five missiles being launched towards the sky.
"That can't be good," Phantom commented as he and Green Lantern flew after the missile.
"We have to stop those missiles before they leave the city!" Green Lantern shouted. "Take them out."
"Got it!" Phantom shouted before he flew to the nearest missiles.
He charged up an ectoball before throwing it at the thrusters, causing it to explode. He then turned intangible and flew through the missile, grabbing the detonator. He then activated the detonator and threw it at the closest missile, blowing up the rocket.
Green Lantern just used his ring to make a crane to grab the missile and directed it to the other missile, causing them to blow up. The two flew towards the last missile to stop it. Phantom tried to touch it, but that was a big mistake; the missile shocked him with electricity, causing him to scream in pain.
"Phantom!" Green Lantern shouted as the Ghost Boy fell towards the ground. He flew after him and made a giant green glove and caught him. But the missile was now out of their reach.
"Ugh…what happened?" Phantom asked in a groggy fashion.
"You don't want to know," Green Lantern said he descended back to the ground to make sure Phantom was alright.
Africa…
It was a strange day for Batman, but he was already use to those kinds of days. First, it was when an entire city where three of his acquaintances were suddenly disappeared, an invisible shield was around the place where the city once was, then they found a similar shield in Africa, saw an advance civilization run by talking gorillas and was now their prisoner, along with Wonder Woman, Hawkgirl and J'onn.
They managed to escape the prison, thanks to Hawkgirl, and were running through a crowd of gorillas, who were terrified, while being chased by the gorilla police, who were on flying motorcycle.
Just another normal day for the Batman.
As he followed after his flying companions, a bola suddenly wrapped around him, immobilizing the Dark Knight.
"Batman!" Wonder Woman shouted as she and the others flew down towards him.
She managed to break the bola, but they were soon surrounded. The gorillas had their weapons aimed at them. The chief, a gray gorilla with an eye patch, was about to give the order, when suddenly, the sky started shimmering.
"Now what?" the gray gorilla asked as their cloaking device suddenly dispersed, exposing their city to the world. "Our shield!? But how…Grodd!"
The gorilla's communicator suddenly beeped. He grabbed and answered it and his eyes suddenly widened.
The leader hop back on his motorcycle and flew back to their headquarters.
"But sir!" a gorilla soldier exclaimed as he gestured at the heroes. "What about the intruders?"
"I've got bigger problems to deal with!" the chief replied. The soldiers, not knowing what to do, decided to follow their chief.
"What was that about?" Hawkgirl asked, who was disappointed that there wasn't a fight.
"I have read their chief's mind," J'onn explained. "A nuclear missile is heading towards their city. In their calculations, the missile will hit in about one minute."
They all looked up and saw the missile going towards Gorilla City. As the gorilla citizens panicked, Wonder Woman flew up to the air, ignoring her teammates' calling. The gorillas' watched as Wonder Woman flew towards the missile.
Wonder Woman me the missile head on and tried to push it back, but the force of its thrusters were too strong for her. They soon reached the ground, plowing through the streets. Wonder Woman dug her heels and prayed for strength from Hera.
Meanwhile, her teammates were rushing towards where the missile is, worried that something bad happened to her.
"Diana!" Batman shouted as the missile finally stopped, but Wonder Woman was under it. He quickly jumped down the crater the missile made and started digging desperately, ignoring the looks the gorillas were giving him.
He just kept on digging when J'onn suddenly put his hand Batman's shoulder, causing him to stop and look at him. Seeing the sad look on J'onn's eyes, he lowered his head in defeat. They started when the missile suddenly lifted and Wonder Woman pushed it off her. Aside from the dirt and scratches on her, she seemed fine.
As she stood up, she was holding the missile's detonator. She then crushed the device before looking at the gorillas.
"Your city is safe," she declared as she stood up. "You have nothing to worry about."
After she said that, the gorillas started cheering. On the background, the chief gorilla was on his motorcycle, looking at the scene before smirking a bit.
Wonder Woman walked toward her teammates when she noticed Batman's gloves and sleeves covered in dirt and sand. Batman noticed and quickly hid his hands under his cape. Wonder Woman gave a small smile as Batman looked away.
His eyes suddenly widened when Wonder Woman gave him a kiss on the cheek. He quickly turned his head away while Wonder Woman just smiled.
A very strange day for the Dark Knight.
Central City…
Grodd was not a happy gorilla. After invading the human's military base and using their primitive technology to hack into Gorilla City's cloaking shield, he fired their nuclear missiles in an attempt to destroy the fools that refused him to be leader.
He almost panicked when the two heroes destroyed four of the missiles, but he quickly activated the last one's defense system, stopping them from its track.
Just as victory was near his grasp, fate decided to toy with him as the missile was suddenly detonated just when it was near its target.
Roaring with frustration, he slammed his two giant fists to the control panel, destroying it. Breathing heavily through his nose, he turned and saw Corwin slightly back away from him in fear. He quickly calmed himself before turning to her.
"Sorry about that, my dear," he said calmly. "I was just a bit frustrated by the turn of events."
"Yeah? Well get ready to be more frustrated," a voice said. The two turned and saw Flash and Solivar b locking the only way in and out, trapping Grodd.
"You're surrounded, Grodd," Solivar said, pointing his blaster at Grodd. "Come quietly and no one will get hurt."
Growling, Grodd charged at Solivar, tackling him to the ground, causing the silver gorilla to drop his blaster. The blaster landed on Corwin's feet and she quickly grabbed it and tried to fire at Solivar, but Flash grabbed the blaster and threw it away.
"Oh no you don't, lady," he said as Corwin tried to punch him. He simply whacked her behind the head, knocking her out.
Before he could react, Solivar collided onto him, knocking him off his feet. The two fell to the ground, causing the headband on Flash's head to fall off. He suddenly felt Grodd grabbed the back of his uniform. He managed to grab his headband as Grodd glared at him.
"I was planning on turning you into my mindless slave, but that would be too troublesome," he said with a cruel grin. "So I'll just fry your mind."
As Grodd's helmet glowed, Flash quickly placed the headband on Grodd's head.
"Now then," Grodd said before he face slowly slackened. "What…should…do…"
He suddenly dropped Flash as he blankly looked in front of him, his eyes unfocused. Solivar groaned as he stood up, rubbing his head. He saw Grodd's expression before turning to Flash, who was grinning.
"One captured gorilla," he said as Phantom and Green Lantern barged in the room.
"What'd we miss?" Phantom asked as Corwin woke up and saw Grodd.
"No!" she shouted as she rushed towards Grodd and tried to wake him up.
"It's over, lady," Flash said as he looked at Corwin. "You're free now."
"I don't think she was being controlled," Phantom commented as Corwin hugged Grodd, crying.
"He was so smart," she cried as she looked at Grodd's blank expression. "The smartest creature that could understand me."
"…We need to give you a better dating site, lady," Phantom commented before he pulled her away from the unmoving Grodd.
Later…
Phantom, Flash, Green Lantern, Batman, Wonder Woman, Hawkgirl and J'onn were in the lab where Dr. Corwin, who is now in jail, used to work. They were currently talking to Solivar, who was looking at Grodd, who was harmlessly playing a tire swing with a blank expression.
"With Grodd's…inability to think, he is no longer a danger to both humans and gorillas," Solivar explained as he looked at the heroes. "Gorilla City will forever be grateful to you."
"No biggie," Flash said with a smirk before turning to his friends. "See that? I can outsmart a gorilla."
"Yeas, you can," Green Lantern said with a sigh.
"You can outsmart a genius gorilla, amazing!" Phantom exclaimed, causing Flash to puff up his chest.
"You're right it's amazing!" he agreed.
"And you can't get a girlfriend!"
"And I can't get a girl…hey!" Flash shouted as Phantom laughed.
"That never gets old," Phantom said as he wiped a tear from his eye. He then turned to Solivar. "So, Solivar? You seeing someone? Cause I know this purple-back gorilla that might be interested in you."
"A purple-back gorilla?" Solivar said, sounding interested. "Tell me more."
Unknown to them, Grodd, from the corner of his eye, was glaring at them.
