Chapter 15: The Enemy Below
Danny Phantom was currently using the Specter Speeder underwater, looking for Youngblood's ship. After the whole incident with Joker, because of Vlad, Phantom realized how dangerous Ghost-related things are to the bad guys.
Remembering the pirate ship Youngblood used, which had some Ghost Tech, and some treadmills, he decided to search for it. Luckily, his parents went to a convention in Gotham and his sister was going to a seminar about psychiatry. Unluckily, Sam was in a protests and Tucker got the stomach flu for eating at the new Taco stand. It was their Spring Break so he had some time spare. His excuse to his sister and parents were that he was going to Metropolis for college viewing.
He tried to collect the Ghost ship that was located on the lake, but when he looked for it, it disappeared. Somehow, during a flood that one of Superman's enemies created, the ship somehow drifted to the ocean. How something so big could go from the lake to the ocean, he might never know.
After searching for four days, half of his Spring Break, his search led him here, thousands of leagues under the sea. At least the view was spectacular.
He was eating some cup noodles as he looked around the underwater place. It was eerie at first, but after a while, it had a sense of mystery. As he drank the broth, his radar suddenly beeped. He quickly checked it and saw that there was something big in his direction.
He quickly went towards the large object and grinned as he saw that it was Youngblood's pirate ship. It was still creepy the first time he saw it. He heard that fishes would use sunken ships as homes, but he guessed that the eerie aura around the ship scared them.
"Alrighty then," Phantom said as he grabbed the Fenton Thermos from his belt and connected it with the Specter Speeder. "Just suck that thing and then go home. Easy enough."
Just as he was about to suck the pirate ship in the Specter Speeder, the radar bleeped again. He looked and saw that there was something going towards him. Suddenly, the Specter Speeder shook as something hit it.
"What the spooks!?" Danny exclaimed as he grabbed the controls to keep the Specter Speeder from breaking. He quickly turned the Specter Speeder and saw a white submarine that looked high-tech. The submarine suddenly fired a ray towards the Specter Speeder, causing the vehicle to shake again.
Phantom growled before he activated the weapons system. A screen appeared in front of him, showing him the weapons he could use.
"Firing ectoplasmic goo!" he shouted as he aimed at the submarine. He aimed at their windows and weapons. "Ha! Try attacking me now!"
Suddenly, smaller submarines flew out from the main submarine and charged towards the Specter Speeder. Phantom groaned before he turned the Specter Speeder and dashed away since there were too many enemies to fight head on.
"Activating auto-targeting systems," he said, pressing a green button. The screen then showed what was behind them, which were a bunch of submarines that wanted to blast him to bits. He activated the ectoplasmic goo and ectoplasmic ray and the targeting system did all the work. The enemy submarines had to dodge from the arrays of goo and rays.
While the Specter Speeder was firing at the submarines, Phantom was busy trying to evade them. He steered the Speeder through reefs and rock formations. But whoever these submarines guys are, they managed to keep up with him.
He then saw a ravine in front of him. An idea formed in his head as he steered the Speeder towards the ravine.
"What's that surface dweller doing?" one of the guys in the big submarine commented as he watched the Specter Speeder go to the ravine. The man was dressed in gray and green armor and had black eyes and a black beard. "Don't they know that there is no escape in that ravine?"
"Let that surface dweller go," a man sitting on what looks like a throne said. He had blond hair and a beard, wearing a green and gold armor and a crown-like helmet. He was Aquaman, King of Atlantis. "It'll make it easier for us."
"Very well, my king," the general said with a bow.
Phantom steered the Speeder to the small ravine, trying to get the submarines behind him as close as possible without getting shot. Once they were closed enough, Phantom used his intangibility on the Speeder.
The men piloting the submarines were shocked the Speeder suddenly went through the ground, despite how small the ravine was. They were so shocked that they didn't pull up in time before the submarine came crashing on the small ravine.
"What happened?" the general guy exclaimed, staring at the submarines in shock. "That surface dweller suddenly sank in the ground, like it was water!"
"I've heard of that surface dweller," Aquaman said as he stood up. "Danny Phantom, a spirit who refuses to move on and started saving his fellow surface dwellers."
"What is he doing here, in our territory?" the general asked, glaring outside as his fellow Atlanteans who were in the broken submarines swam back to the main submarine. "It must have something to do with that wreckage earlier."
"Go and check that wreckage," Aquaman said as he stood up and walked towards the exit. "I will deal with Phantom."
In an empty area, the Specter Speeder appeared from the ground. Phantom grinned as he stopped the intangibility, seeing that the coast was clear.
"What were those submarines, anyway?" he said to himself as he steered the Speeder back to the ship, this time using stealth mode. "They don't look alien. They actually look advance."
Suddenly, he was startled when something suddenly attached itself on the Specter Speeder. After he calmed down, he saw suction cups attached on the glass. He blinked as he saw that he was being attacked by a giant squid. The stealth mode canceled as the giant squid started crushing the Speeder.
"Oh no you don't!" Phantom exclaimed as he grabbed a rebreather mask, put it on and phased down from the floor. When he was outside, he flew up and saw a man riding the giant squid, holding a yellow trident. "Now I've seen everything. Hey! Stop that!"
The man looked at Phantom with cold eyes. Suddenly, he threw his trident towards Phantom, stabbing him in the gut. Phantom stared at the trident with wide eyes before he glared. Luckily, it wasn't a Ghost weapon, otherwise that would have hurt.
"Hey!" Phantom exclaimed as he grabbed the trident and threw it back to the man, who caught it effortlessly. "You don't throw pointy things at people! That could've killed me!"
"So the stories are true," the man said as he swam off the squid, who stopped crushing the Specter Speeder. "You are a spirit."
"It's Ghost, actually," Phantom said as he narrowed his eyes. "But I prefer Phantom. Who are you?"
"I am the King of Atlantis, but you surface dwellers call by the name of Aquaman," Aquaman said. "And you are trespassing in my kingdom and attacked my men."
"Hey, they attacked me first," Phantom said defensively. "I was just trying to get something that was possibly very dangerous…Hang on, did you just say 'King of Atlantis'?"
"My men can handle this dangerous something," Aquaman said, ignoring the last comment. "Return back to the surface."
"Look, King Aquaman or whatever," Phantom said, getting tired by this guy's ego. "I'm not leaving without that ship."
"That ship is now part of my territory," Aquaman said. "Which means, it's now my property."
"It's not yours!" Phantom exclaimed angrily. "I've spent four days looking for that hunk of junk, and I ain't leaving without it! So you either get out of my way, or I make you?"
"Are you threatening the King of Atlantis?" Aquaman demanded, glaring at Phantom, who was glaring back.
"You could be the King of Las Vegas, and I still won't care," Phantom retorted. "Now get your pet squid off my ride before I fry it!"
Aquaman stared at Phantom with narrowed eyes before he raised his hand. The squid slowly let go of the Specter Speeder. Before Phantom could release a sigh of relief, the giant squid swung the Speeder towards Phantom, who quickly jump up to avoid getting hit.
Suddenly, Aquaman was in front of him and punched him on the face. Despite being underwater, he was sent flying towards a rock. Phantom rubbed his face before his eyes glowed angrily. He shot towards Aquaman and aimed a punched at his face, only for it to be caught by Aquaman.
The Atlantean then threw Phantom over his shoulder to the ground and was about to stomp on his head, only for Phantom to grab his foot, turned intangible and sank to the ground, taking the foot along.
Aquaman was pulling his foot out of the ground when Phantom appeared in front of him and punched him on the face with his left hand, then right, and he used the momentum for a kick to the face, but Aquaman caught his leg and swung him to the ground.
He then removed his foot from the ground and swam towards Phantom, holding his trident to skewer him. The Ghost Boy quickly grabbed the trident by the two points, trying to push it off him.
"You dare strike the King of Atlantis?" Aquaman exclaimed as he tried to push the trident to Phantom's face.
"You strike me first, your Highness!" Phantom exclaimed as he struggled to push the trident off his face. "And get your giant fork off my face!"
Phantom used his Ghost powers to increased his strength, managing to push Aquaman away. He quickly flew towards the Specter Speeder and phased through it. He was about to run to the controls when he spotted something on the ground.
It was wet.
Suddenly, there was a painful 'thump!' before his entire world blackened.
"Oh right! I did it!" a girl about fifteen with orange hair cheered, holding a hammer of what appears to be made of water. She had sea-green eyes, gills on her neck, yellow bikini top and green skirt held by a gold belt. "I told them it was exciting to see that pirate ship than staying at the school."
She yelped when the door was kicked open, causing water to flow inside the Specter Speeder. Seconds later, water filled the vehicle as Aquaman entered the Speeder. His eyes widened as he stared at the orange-haired girl with wide eyes before they became a glare.
"Y-your Highness!" the girl exclaimed in shock before she quickly bowed. "I-I can explain!"
"Again, Tula," Aquaman said with a sigh as he stared at the girl with a tired expression. "This is the fifth time this month."
"S-sorry," Tula said as she lowered her head sheepishly. She then stared at the Ghost Boy that was floating next to them. "Is that a surface dweller?"
"Now, he is our prisoner," Aquaman said as he grabbed the boy. Using his powers, he summoned the giant squid again. It wrapped its tentacles around the Specter Speeder and started dragging it away. Aquaman grabbed Phantom and exited the Specter Speeder, Tula behind him. He noted how cold to the touch Phantom was. Tula was hovering next Aquaman, staring at Phantom with wide eyes, poking at his face.
When they got to the submarine, they spotted another surface dweller vehicle. This one looked more primitive than Phantoms. Narrowing his eyes, he handed Phantom to Tula.
"Go back to Atlantis," he said as he turned to the intruders. "We will handle these."
Tula nodded. She dragged the unconscious Phantom to one of their scouting submarines and left Aquaman, who sat back on his throne. The giant squid followed them, dragging the Specter Speeder with it.
Watchtower…
"Still no word from Danny?" Wonder Woman asked to Martian Manhunter, who shook his head. "He said he would be out of contact for at least few days, but he hasn't showed up yet. Something must have happened to him."
"Relax, Diana," Superman said with a reassuring smile. "I'm sure Phantom's alright."
"Still," Wonder Woman said with a worried frown. She knew Phantom could take care of himself, but she couldn't help but worry. She couldn't help but view Phantom as a male version of a little sister, like the one she had back on Themyscira. What do they call them…little brothers, that's what she thought of Phantom. "I cannot help but worry."
Suddenly, the alarms sounded as Martian Manhunter checked and saw that they intercepted an emergency call.
"This is the USS Deviance!" a female voice exclaimed. "We've been hit by an unknown assailant and we're going down! I repeat we're going down!"
"Let's go!" Superman exclaimed. Wonder Woman and Green Lantern went with him as Martian Manhunter stayed to see if other dangers would happen. The three went to the Javelin and immediately flew back to the distress call.
Atlantis…
Phantom slowly opened his eyes, a painful throb making him groan. As he used his hands to rub his head, he heard some clanking sounds. He looked at his hands and he saw that he was shackled.
"Great, again," he groaned as he used both hands to face palm himself. "What is it with people shackling me?"
Seeing that they weren't Ghost shackles, Phantom used his intangibility and tried to free his wrists, but he was surprised when the shackles were still on his wrists. He noticed that they were glowing sea green.
"Didn't know Atlanteans can restrain Ghosts," Phantom commented as he looked around the place. It looked like he was in a glass cage. The ground, ceiling and walls were cold rock while there was a glass in front of him. He then noticed fishes floating outside the glass. "I feel like a fish…how ironic."
He jumped when he a girl suddenly appeared in front of the cage. The way she looked at him made him feel like a special exhibit in the zoo.
"You know its rude to stare, right?" Phantom said, startling the girl.
"You can talk!" the girl exclaimed excitedly. "I didn't know surface dwellers can talk."
"I can also dance, but I don't feel like it," Phantom said in a deadpanned tone. "Who are you? And where am I?"
"My name is Tula," the orange haired girl said with a grin. "And you're in a prison cell in Atlantis."
"Should have known King Fish Sticks keeps his prisoners in a fishbowl," Phantom muttered.
"So…what is your name?" Tula asked.
"Oh, sorry," Phantom said, forgetting his manners. "I'm Danny. Danny Phantom. I'd say 'nice to meet you', but…" he gestured at his shackles. He suddenly winced as he rubbed the back of his neck. "That king of yours sure know how to sucker punch a guy."
"Actually…that was me," Tula said sheepishly as Phantom gave her the look. "You startled me when I was looking around your submarine. What were you doing there, anyway?"
"I was trying to get something possibly dangerous out of here," Phantom said. "And I half of my Spring Break looking for it. And now I'm in jail. Worst weekend of my life."
"You mean the new pirate ship?" Tula asked as she tiled her head.
"Yeah, I was trying to get that ship back to where it belongs," Phantom explained as he sat to the ground, crossing his legs.
"To the surface?" Tula asked.
"Nope, to a place called the Ghost Zone," Phantom replied.
"The Ghost Zone?" Tula asked with a curious tone. "There's another place other than the surface? Wow. How big is the surface?"
Before Phantom could reply, someone called Tula's name. Tula looked and a guy with black haring a blue vest and pants swam towards her.
"Why are you here?" the boy asked Tula before he looked at Phantom distrustfully. "And why are you talking to this surface dweller."
"I was just asking him some questions, Garth" Tula said. "Besides, I've never seen a surface dweller before."
"And with good reason," Garth said with a distrustful look to Phantom. "Besides, this one attacked our king."
"He tried to stab me with a fork," Phantom retorted as he tried to turn intangible again. "And why can't phase through this thing?"
"Your unnatural abilities will not work on Atlantean magic," Garth said before he grabbed Tula and pulled her away. "Now stay here and wait for your punishment."
Phantom watched as the two teens swam away from the cage. As they left, Phantom stared at his shackled hands. He started thinking of a way to remove these handcuffs.
"I need to get out of here," he said as he paced around the room. "Wonder what the others are doing. I'm sure I'll get out of here in no time."
Two Days Later…
"Grub's here," an Atlantean guard said as he entered the cage, holding a tray of green, mushy stuff. He dropped the tray and kicked it towards the bundle near the wall. When the bundle didn't move, the guard groaned and stomped towards it. "Come on and eat, already! Until the King returns, we need to keep you alive. So eat!"
He grabbed the bundle and yanked it up, only to see that it was a pillow wrapped in a blanket. Before he could react, Phantom appeared behind him, the shackles broken in his hands. Using the shackles, he punched the guy's back of the head.
The guard fell face first on the green mush, unconscious from the sneak attack. Finally, after two days leaving on sea algae, he managed to free himself from the shackles, focusing his Ghost energy to destroy the chains.
He stripped the guard and used his clothes to tie and gag him, placed him near the corner and cover him with the blanket, as a decoy. He tried to overshadow the guy, but it seems that weird Atlantean magic prevented him from doing it.
Phantom then exited through the stone door and closed it. He sighed since he didn't have a rebreather. He took a deep breath and concentrated. The glow around his body suddenly grew brighter and expanded, something he saw Green Lantern do when he was going out to space. Once he was satisfied, Phantom phased through the wall and appeared in the water. He waited a few minutes until he grinned since he wasn't getting wet.
"Now to find the Specter Speeder," Phantom said as he tried to turn invisible. When he tried, he noticed his Ghostly layer thinning. He stopped turning invisible and the layer returned to how he wanted it. "Guess I had to do it the old fashion way."
As he stealthily flew to the most important building he saw, which looked like a squid, he didn't notice someone following him from behind. As he flew, he wondered what the Justice League were doing.
New York City…
In a hospital, Aquaman, who was attacked by an unknown assailant, exited the building. He was on the surface for about two days, since he went there to negotiate with the surface dwellers. They were outraged by his demands, but he didn't care.
When he exited the United Nations Center, he was suddenly attacked by a rocket launcher. He barely survived, thanks to Batman.
As the reporters gathered him, which he ignored, an unknown person was on the rooftops, aiming a sniper riffle at his head. He pulled the trigger and the bullet flew towards Aquaman's head. Suddenly, Aquaman grabbed the bullet and his form started changing.
"The assailant is over there!" Martian Manhunter exclaimed, surprising the people around him.
On nearby rooftops, Batman saw the mysterious assailant wearing a trench coat and fedora running off the rooftop. He quickly pulled out a grappler and aimed at that roof. He swung to the rooftop. As he landed, he quickly rushed to the edge of the building and saw the trench coat and hat on the street. He narrowed his eyes at the manhole that wasn't closed properly.
In the sewers, Deadshot, a gun for hire that was dressed in a red suit with metal armor and helmet with a telescope attached on the right eyehole. He was falling in the sewers and landed on a jeep that he placed in there. He cursed since he didn't expect that trap. But he already got paid, so it was time for him to escape.
He started driving through the sewers as fast as he can, thinking on how to spend his money. When he was halfway to his extraction point, the sewer's ceilings suddenly collapsed and Wonder Woman appeared on his path. Deathshot eyes widened before he increased his speed.
Wonder Woman just prepared herself as the vehicle sped towards her. She suddenly held her hands out and stopped the jeep right there. She then carried the jeep up from the hole and threw it to the ground, causing it to be turned upside down.
Deadshot quickly got off the jeep and was about to run off when he slammed into something hard. He looked up and saw Superman, who suddenly grabbed him by the front to prevent him from running again. Batman, Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter then gathered behind Superman.
"Guess I'm cornered," Deadshot said in a cocky tone. He wasn't going to talk, no matter what.
"So you're Deadshot?" Superman asked, already knowing since he recognized the villain from the files of dangerous people. "You tried to kill Aquaman. Why?"
"Jeez, why would a hired gun try to kill someone?" Deadshot said like it was obvious. "Could it be that someone paid me?"
"Who paid you?" Superman asked, trying to sound threatening.
"Sorry, but that's confidential," Deadshot said. "Unless you can offer me something that'll make me talk."
"Please, tell us who wanted to kill Aquaman," Wonder Woman said, walking forward.
"Like I said babe, I ain't talking," Deadshot said as he looked at Wonder Woman. He stopped talking as he checked the Amazon out, liking what he was seeing. "But I might change my mind, if you make it worth my while."
Batman, who walked behind Deadshot, suddenly grabbed the mercenary's shoulder.
"I'll take it from here," Batman said as he dragged Deadshot away from his team.
"You can't scare me, Batman," Deadshot said as they stopped nearby. Batman suddenly grabbed Deadshot's shoulders, making him look at the Bat Glare, which was unusually intense.
"Let me give you one word of advice," Batman said as he leaned over near Deadshot's head, where his ear is. The other three looked at Batman and Deadshot. Superman used his enhanced hearing to listen to their conversation.
"Okay, I'll talk," Deadshot said quickly.
"What did he say?" Wonder Woman asked, noticing Superman cringing a bit.
"You…don't wanna know," Superman said as he stopped listening.
"Indeed," Martian Manhunter agreed. Batman returned, pushing a rather submissive Deadshot with him. Deadshot tried to play it cool, but he noticed the three, expectant looks on everyone's faces.
"Who hired you?" Batman asked.
"I don't know, I don't asked questions," Deadshot replied with a shrug.
"Not good enough," Batman said as he walked forward. "How were you paid?"
"In gold," Deadshot replied, gesturing at his overturned jeep. The back door opened and a crateful of gold were spilled on the ground.
Batman walked towards the pile and picked one gold coin from the ground. He stared at the coin's design before looking at his team.
"Spanish doubloons," he said.
"Where could someone get that gold," Wonder Woman asked.
"Atlantis," Martian Manhunter replied, the only place where that kind of gold could be found.
"We've got to warn Aquaman!" Superman exclaimed, seeing that the Atlantean was betrayed.
"Too late," a voice said. They looked up and saw Green Lantern landing towards them, looking angry. "Your royal pain in the neck ran off. His probably back in his kingdom."
"…May Hera help him," Wonder Woman said with a worried expression.
Atlantis…
"This is one huge place," Phantom commented as he walked through the halls of he thinks was the castle. Since this was the only place that looked important, maybe he can find the Specter Speeder here, or someone who knows where it is. "At least the place is dry."
As he walked, he didn't noticed Tula following him. The girl has been following him since she spotted him escaping the prison. Usually, she would have reported it to the authorities, but she wanted to hear about the surface world, so she decided to follow him.
She watched as Phantom turned to the corner. She hurriedly tiptoed to the corner and peeked. Her eyes widened when she saw that he was gone. She blinked as he walked towards the halls, looking around.
"So you were the one who was following me," a voice said from behind, startling her. She turned and was suddenly pinned to the ground by Phantom, covering her mouth. "Is there a broom closet I can trap you in?"
He yelped when Tula bit his hand, causing him to release her. He blew his hand, trying to ease the pain as Tula stood up.
"It's rude to frighten a girl, you know," Tula said in annoyed voice.
"You know what's even more rude?" Phantom asked in an annoyed voice. "You, as a person."
"Do you want me to call the guards?" Tula asked.
"What are you doing here, anyway?" Phantom asked with a glare.
"I want to learn more about the surface world," Tula asked with a smile. "So I was looking for you."
"I'll tell you later," Phantom said as he kept walking. "But I need to find my ride first."
"I'll take you there," Tula said, causing Phantom to look at her. "But then you have to tell me about the surface. Deal?" she held her hand out to Phantom, who was staring at it.
"…Deal," he said as he shook it.
With that, Tula led Phantom through the halls, checking now and then for guards. After a while, they finally reached their destination. Phantom blinked as the halls suddenly changed from the majestic, castle-like walls into something that looked like an advance laboratory.
"How do you know that the Specter Speeder is here?" Phantom asked Tula as they walked towards the last door on the halls.
"I heard the guards talking about it the other day," Tula replied as she looked at the door. "Now to open this door. What was the password…"
She jumped when Phantom just punched the control pad of the door. It sparks a bit before the door opened.
"There's your password," Phantom said as they entered the door. Their eyes widened when they saw the Specter Speeder in pieces, and the pirate ship was inside a large dome, the green energy was somehow being suck away. "What the spooks? What are they doing?"
"It looks like they're harvesting the energy," Tula said as she stared at the ship.
"That's exactly right," a voice said on top of them. Suddenly, guards rushed in the room, surrounding the two teens. They looked up and saw a man wearing a crown and holding a trident, dressed in green robes. Tula gasped as she looked at the man on top.
"Are you supposed to be Aquaboy or something?" Phantom said as he crossed his arms. "Where's Aquaman?"
"My brother is getting what he deserves for deserting his people," the man said with a cruel sneer. "I am King Orm! Now take these two and take them to join my brother and nephew!"
The guards charged, their weapons raised. Tula stared at them with wide eyes until a green dome surrounded her and Phantom. The weapons were blocked by the green dome Phantom made, who had his arms crossed.
He spread his arms, causing the dome to expand, pushing the guards back. The dome disappeared and Phantom quickly picked up the shell shocked Tula and flew out the room. The guards all stood up and were about to give chase.
"No!" Orm exclaimed, stopping the guards. "There's no time. Quick, get our little project ready!"
Orm watched as the guards walked towards the dismantled Specter Speeder, grabbing all the important stuff. Orm then stared at the ship before grinning.
"Soon, we will regain our former glory!" he said before walking away.
"Where are we going?" Tula asked as they flew away, holding on to Phantom as she never flown before. She had to admit, it was better than swimming, which was something she does on a daily basis.
"Far from this place!" Phantom exclaimed as turned right. "Do you know someone we can talk to?"
"The Queen!" Tula suggested. "We can trust her!"
"Then hold on tight!" Phantom exclaimed as he increased his speed. Tula yelped as the speed increased, tightening her grip.
After flying back to the upper levels as fast as he can, Phantom followed Tula towards what would be the throne room, where Queen Mera would likely be. The two burst through the door and saw a crying red head woman wearing a green dress and a crown. She wasn't alone. Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter and Superman were in the room, talking to Queen Mera.
The heroes were startled by the doors suddenly opening, and were surprised to see Phantom with a girl, looking like he was kept in a cage for a couple of days.
"Phantom?" Superman asked, surprised to see the Ghost Boy, who was out of contact for most of the week. "What are you doing here?"
"That's what I was gonna say," Phantom said as he looked at his team. "What's wrong?"
"Someone is trying to kill Aquaman," Superman explained.
"Yeah, we got that," Phantom said. "A guy named Orm. He had my Specter Speeder dismantled and was sucking the energy out of Youngblood's pirate ship."
"He must be the one who stole all those nuclear weapons," Green Lantern said.
"What's he planning?" Wonder Woman asked.
"He's planning to cover the entire planet underwater," a voice said behind them. They turned to the door and saw Aquaman holding his son with one arm, his expression both angry and in pain. His left arm was covered in a red cloth.
Everyone stared at his left arm, knowing what he did to save his son and himself. "See, I told you he was nuts," Green Lantern said.
"Dude, too soon," Phantom said to Green Lantern as Queen Mera rushed towards her husband and son.
As Aquaman was rushed to the doctors, Phantom and Tula told them what they saw in the laboratories below. After the whole Joker Specter incident, they were weary with someone who would use Ghost powers.
"So where would Orm be?" Wonder Woman asked as they all tried to figure out.
"If he wants to submerge the world under water, he needs a large amount of it," Batman said.
"What's he gonna do? Open every faucet around the planet?" Phantom asked, trying to ease the tension.
"He's going to melt Antarctica," Batman said.
"Okay, that's worse," Phantom said.
"We need to hurry," Superman said. They all rushed to the door when it suddenly burst open. Aquaman stared at them, his hand replaced by a hook.
"If you're going after Orm, I'm coming with you," he said, his hook glinting with the light.
"Aquaman, you're injured," Superman said. "You need to rest."
"I am the King of Atlantis," Aquaman said, standing in full height. "It is my duty to stop my brother and protect Atlantis."
The look in Aquaman's eyes told them that they didn't have a place to argue. Everyone rushed out the room, leaving Queen Mera, who had a worried look in her eyes, and her son. She sighed and turn to look at her student, only to find that the room was empty.
Her eyes widened when she realized that Tula probably went with the group. She prayed to Poseidon that Tula would be unharmed, so she can punish her later.
Later…
The Javelin was flying towards Antarctica as fast as it can. They saw that some of the ice started melting quickly. It was so warm that it felt like summer. As the Javelin flew closer to the ground, it was suddenly hit by a blaster from below.
"They spotted us!" Wonder Woman exclaimed as they got hit again.
Superman, Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter flew out the Javelin to fight the attackers from below. Phantom was about to phase through when they heard a yelp from behind. Phantom, with narrowed eyes, ran towards the back, his fist glowing. He opened the hangar doors and Tula came crashing on him.
"Tula!?" Aquaman exclaimed in shock.
"Um…hello?" Tula said with a sheepish grin.
"Aquaman, can't you…I don't know…imprison her for life?" Phantom asked with a deadpanned tone.
Before they could react, the Javelin crashed landed, causing them to tumble a bit. After the Javelin stopped, everyone groaned from the impact. Phantom held his head with his left hand. He moved his right hand to the ground so he can stand up. He blinked when he felt something soft instead of the ground.
Phantom looked on the ground and saw that his hand was on Tula's chest. His mouth was wide open in shock as Tula's face grew red. The next thing he knew, Phantom was on the ground, his right check red from Tula's slap.
"What were you touching, you pervert!?" Tula exclaimed angrily, covering her chest.
"What are you doing to her, you surface dweller!?" Aquaman exclaimed, raising his hook threateningly.
"It was an accident!" Phantom exclaimed in a panic, waving his arms around as Aquaman walked towards him.
"Stop wasting time," Batman said as he rushed towards the hole on the Javelin. "We need to stop this quickly!"
"This isn't over," Aquaman said to Phantom. Phantom sighed before he grabbed Tula's hand and the two phased out the wreckage.
"Okay, you stay here and make sure you won't get caught," Phantom said as he let Tula go and was about to fly, when his Ghost tail was grabbed. Surprised, he looked down and saw Tula holding on his tail, her hands glowing with her Atlantean magic.
"You're not leaving me here alone," Tula said with a stubborn tone. "Take me with you."
"It's too dangerous!" Phantom exclaimed.
"So is leaving me here all alone," Tula pointed out. "Would you really leave a defenseless girl in the open?"
Phantom glared at her before he sighed. He picked up Tula and the two followed the other heroes through the air. With the ice melting and the extreme heat wave, it felt so humid. Suddenly, his Ghost Sense activated.
"What's wrong?" Tula asked as she saw Phantom looked left and right.
His stare turned to a big ice mountain on the right, not far from here. He could feel some Ghost energy inside the mountain.
"Batman," Phantom said through his communication. "I'm going to the mountain on the right. I can feel ectoplasmic energy inside it."
Batman looked at the mountain before he used his mask to scan it. He could detect some energy, but the nuclear energy was right below the mountain.
"Go ahead," Batman said. "Take Aquaman with you."
"Do I have too?" Phantom complained.
"Do it," Batman said in a 'no choice' tone. He ended communications before he led the others to towards the nuclear energy. Phantom sighed before he flew towards Aquaman.
"Aquaman, you're coming with me!" he called out.
"I follow no one!" Aquaman exclaimed.
"You don't have a choice!" Phantom exclaimed back. He grabbed Aquaman's arm and lifted him to the source of the Ghost energy. He ignored Aquaman's demands to put him down.
He finally put Aquaman and Tula down when they were on top of the mountain. He then flew towards where the Ghost energy is, ignoring Aquaman's threats for disrespecting him.
The three stopped in a big cavern, droplets falling from the ceiling. They all looked up when they heard someone laughing. They saw a glowing Orm descending towards them. On his right hand was Aquaman's trident, which had an eerie green glow and was being held by a silver and green gauntlet.
"So you're still alive, big brother," Orm said in a slightly derange tone. "But you're too late. Once the world under surface, I can use this power to rule New Atlantis!"
"I will not let you, brother!" Aquaman exclaimed as he charged towards Orm, who just smirk. He raised the trident and a Ghost Ray was fired from the tip. Aquaman was blasted towards the ice walls.
"Milord!" Tula exclaimed. She ran towards Aquaman, not noticing Orm pointing the trident at her. She saw something green from the corner of her eyes. She looked and her eyes widened as a Ghost Ray was going towards her.
Before it would hit her, Phantom appeared in front of her and blocked the ray with his crossed arms. Phantom glared at Orm, who was chuckling insanely.
"Why is Prince Orm acting like that?" Tula asked worriedly as she looked at Orm.
"The Ghost energy in that trident is too much for him," Phantom guessed as he stared at the gauntlet. It was probably made by scraps from the Specter Speeder. "Go look after Aquaman. I'll handle this guy."
"Be careful," Tula said before running towards the downed Aquaman.
Phantom charged towards Orm, who just smirked as he swung the trident towards the Ghost Boy. Phantom raised a glowing fist to block the trident.
"You can't stop me, surface dweller!" Orm exclaimed with wide deranged eyes. "With this power, I am unstoppable!"
"You're not the first deranged bad guy that said that before," Phantom said before he kicked Orm away. "And you won't be the last one either."
Orm glared at Phantom before charging, swinging the trident wildly. His eyes were slowly turning green as the gauntlet he was wearing was cracking.
Meanwhile, Batman and Wonder Woman were running through a dark cave, the place getting hotter by the minute, the water reaching their ankles. They finally arrived at the nuclear-powered reactor. The place was hotter than the driest desert on the planet.
"How do we stop this?" Wonder Woman asked, sweat pouring from her head. "It's hotter than Apollo's chariot."
Batman looked at the nuclear reactor. It was more advanced than the reactors he was used to, probably due to being made by Atlanteans. Though it looked more advanced, it must have the same functions as a normal reactor.
"We need to cool it down. Fast," Batman said as he looked at the icy ceiling. "Take me up there."
Wonder Woman grabbed Batman's arms and pulled him up towards the ceilings. Batman pulled some batarangs from his belt and attached them to the icy ceiling. Once he was satisfied with his work, he and Wonder Woman went to the side.
He activated the batarangs, which blinked and exploded. Once the ceiling was destroyed, the giant chunks of ice were falling towards the giant reactor. With the ice piling over the reactor, it was starting to cool down.
Meanwhile, Phantom was busy blocking and dodging. That trident was sharp, especially with the added Ghost power in it. He got a couple of cuts and one stab wound in the shoulder. He had to admit, for a guy who was slowly losing his mind, he was a good fighter.
He was suddenly tripped by the trident, causing him to fall hard on his back. He was about to stand up when the gauntlet hand grabbed him by the neck.
"I told you, surface dweller," Orm said with a wide grin. "You can't defeat me! Now time to send you back to the place where you belong!"
Phantom choked as his neck was slowly crushed. Orm started laughing as he tightened his grip, until something hit him on the back of his head, making him wet. He turned and saw Tula glaring at him, her arms glowing before she moved her arms forward. Using the water melted from the ice, she made some water projectiles. The projectiles started flying towards Orm, who just smirked and waved the trident on the air.
The water was block by the shield he made before walking towards Tula. The girl just kept firing water balls towards Orm before he grabbed her by the arm and threw her to the ground. She groaned just before Orm stepped on her chest. Tula struggled to get his leg of her as he raised the trident.
"Say goodbye, little girl!" he exclaimed. She screamed as Orm went to stab her in the chest. Before the trident could reach her, something stopped him. He looked and saw Phantom like he was playing the limbo, using both hands and his mouth to stop the trident, his legs trembling a bit. "How long are you going to make a fool out of me!?"
"Ntshl eur horther ackes ofp!" Phantom said through the trident on his teeth. Orm gave him a confused look before he moved the trident so he could talk. "I said, until your brother wakes up."
Orm blinked as Phantom and Tula suddenly smiled as they gestured for him to look behind him. Orm looked over his shoulder and saw Aquaman standing over him with a glare, his fist raised. He punched his brother on the face.
He helped Phantom and Tula up before they looked at Orm, who was glaring at them. He was about to fire another ray when the gauntlet suddenly broke into pieces. The three watched as Orm started screaming as his appearance started changing. The metal started merging in his arm and his skin turned green.
"What's happening to him!?" Tula exclaimed in fear.
"The Ghost energy is starting to take over him," Phantom said as he and Aquaman prepared to fight. Phantom turned his head to look at Tula. "This time, hide."
Tula nodded and ran towards an ice block and hid behind it. Phantom and Aquaman then turned to the monster-turned Atlantean.
"Think you can handle it, your Majesty?" Phantom said with a smirk.
"Boy, I've been fighting sharks before you were even born," Aquaman said as he looked at Phantom.
The two charged at Orm, who roared and fired at them using the trident. Phantom blocked the ray with his own ray. The two rays made a small explosion that Aquaman used as cover to get closer. When the flash died, Orm was surprised to see Aquaman in front of him, and got punched in the face and a kick that sent him upwards, where Phantom was flying towards him with a kick.
Orm was sent crashing to the ground, creating a crater. Phantom saw that Orm dropped the trident, so he quickly flew towards it. He grabbed the trident from the ground and flew up before Orm was about to grab it.
Aquaman rushed towards Orm and punched him in the gut before grabbing his arm and throwing the monster across the cavern. Phantom flew towards Orm and kneed on his chest, stabbing Orm's right hand with the trident.
"Hope's this works," Phantom said as he turned his hands intangible. He placed his hands in Orm's right arm and grasped something inside it. With a heave, he pulled out the Ghost Energy inside Orm. It somehow manifested a form, a sea snake with a trident for a tail.
The Ghost writhed in his hands. Using his arms to hold the snake, he went to grab the Fenton Thermos. He sucked snake in the thermos and closed it, with a grin. Orm and he trident were slowly changing back to normal.
Orm groaned as he rubbed his head in pain. He couldn't remember what happened after he grabbed the trident that was infused with Ghost energy. He was suddenly pulled up roughly by the shoulder by Aquaman, who was glaring at him.
"Hello, brother," Aquaman said as Orm tried to free himself.
"Now brother," Orm said with a nervous chuckle. "Let's calm down a bit."
Suddenly the cavern started shaking uncontrollably. Phantom floated to avoid the shaking. He watched as the ground suddenly broke in half. He spotted Tula on the ground, noticing the cracks on it. Seeing that she was in danger, he flew towards her and grab her just as she was about to fall.
"I gotcha!" he exclaimed as he carried her to safety. The two brothers fell from the opening ground. Aquaman grabbed on the edge and pulled himself out.
"Brother, help!" Orm exclaimed, holding on the trident, which was stab on wall.
Aquaman looked at Orm with emotionless eyes before he kneeled over the edge and reached out to him. Orm smiled as Aquaman took his hand that was holding the trident.
"This is mine," Aquaman said coldly, wiping the smile off Orm's face. He removed Orm's grip on the trident. Aquaman watched as his brother screamed as he fell in the darkness. He grabbed his trident and ran to the exit just as the cave collapse.
"Aquaman!" a voice called as Aquaman rushed out the cave. He looked up and was suddenly grabbed by Phantom. The Ghost Boy looked around before at Aquaman. "Where's Orm?"
Aquaman didn't reply, his face solemn. Phantom and Tula understood what happened and kept silent. They spotted the defeated Atlanteans, which were being gathered by Superman, Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter. Phantom then saw something from the corner of his eyes and turned to see Batman and Wonder Woman behind them, looking a little sweaty.
Later…
Back in the throne room of Atlantis, the heroes were standing on the back of Aquaman's throne, watching as the guards who joined Orm were kneeling before him, asking for leniency.
"Surely you believed that our loyalty is to you alone, my lord," the general said. "We never believed what Orm's plan, but your brother forced us. The truth is, we were only following orders."
Aquaman stood up and stared at the traitors. He could see the deception in their eyes. He knew they weren't forced.
"Get them out of my sight," he ordered to the guards who didn't betray him. They watched as the traitors were led away by the guards. Aquaman sighed tiredly as he watched the traitors walk away. "I can only blame myself. My fear to the surface dwellers blinded me to those who I should fear most. And it cost me dearly," he gestured at his hook.
"Don't be too hard on yourself," Green Lantern said. "Maybe we've all misjudged."
"Perhaps," Aquaman agreed before he turned to the window that overlooked his kingdom. "All I want, all I ever wanted, is peace and security for Atlantis."
"After all that's happened, that's going to be very hard," Superman said worriedly.
"I know," Aquaman said as he turned to look at his wife, who was lovingly holding their sleeping son. "But some sacrifices are worth it."
Later, the heroes were prepared to leave back to the surface, the Javelin and Specter Speedy were quickly repaired thanks to Atlantean technology. Phantom walked towards the Specter Speeder, holding the Thermos that contained the Ghost and Ghost Ship.
"Wait!" a voice called behind him. He turned and saw Tula running towards him.
"Wow, I'm surprised you didn't sneak in the Specter Speeder," Phantom joked as he leaned on his ride. "Here to say goodbye?"
"Yes," Tula said with a small smile. "Thank you for taking me to the surface, even though I sneaked in."
"How about I show the surface once you're not grounded anymore," Phantom said with a grin as Tula sighed sadly, since she was grounded by the Queen for sneaking off. "We could go for some milkshakes or something."
"That sounds great," Tula said. She waved as Phantom entered the Specter Speeder before following the Javelin towards the surface. Tula smiled as she watched the Speeder away, blushing a bit. "Danny Phantom…how interesting."
"Time to go home, grab some real food and sleep until next week," Phantom said as he and his team left Atlantis. "Can't wait to get the taste of algae out of my mouth."
Well, here's my take on the Enemy Below episode. I tried to do a few changes and hoped that you guys will like it. Tula appears and is interested in Danny. As you see, I don't like Garth, at least, not the Young Justice version. You don't steal your best friend's girl, man! It's against the dude code! Who else agrees with me?
Anyway, another villain has used Ghost powers, from Youngblood's ship. Who else would use Ghost energy as a weapon? Kinda exciting to think about it. Now, time for review replies.
UnsanMusho- Yeah. But it's kinda cool when you think about it.
nightmaster000- Ghost powered Joker in a thong? That's terrifying.
xbox432- And that's why he's the favorite villain.
scheffelman- You can't go wrong with a cape.
Pegasus Sword Master- Thanks. Hope this one was unexpected too.
HolyMage Mouto- Thanks. Batman doesn't ask, he spies and research.
CyberActor15- Joker was born to be a Halfa. Good thing it didn't last.
darkkrt- Thanks.
rst64tlc- If Joker Specter is canon, fans would go nuts.
Fati Sid- I was thinking of doing what Batman did in Starcrossed. That would surprise them.
TerrorKing10- I did skip The Enemy Below, but people wanted to see it. Hope you like the version of it. And yeah, Joker Specter is one bad news.
Pandora the Ghost Elf- How about this then, some super hero girls will compete over him. That's how anime does their indecision. Also, it's kinda funny when girls fight over the main character.
KuriMaster13- Static will appear, just not now. Also, glad you liked the originality in it.
RHatch89- Thanks.
Richard1081- Maybe soon. Still thinking about that.
ChaoticEmperor01- Hope this is original enough. Tula interested in Phantom. I wonder if I can add Miss Martian and Wonder Girl? Hehehee.
SuperFlash- Thanks. I introduced Aquaman using the JL episode with some twist in it. And yeah, Long Reviewer is getting old.
RandomCitizen- I'm bad at Math. And yeah, Jack does have character.
Mullkkkkkk- Hope it'll get better.
Menatron the Angel of Ideas- Hm…Not bad ideas.
princessbinas- At least he didn't get rabies.
JoWashington- Well, the Ghost Portal wasn't filled with diet soda, so that's one reason. And you saw how Aquaman reacted to him, distrustful at first, but slowly warmed up to him.
bluemarvel0- Thanks, glad you got surprised.
Brenne- Dark Dan doesn't exist yet, but he will keep an eye out to Vlad. Glad you enjoyed it.
FanboyX- Thanks for the suggestions. I'll see if I can add them to the list.
Dion ComicWiz- I know they got their powers then, but I was going to wait for a little while for them to appear. As for your questions
1 maybe I would. Still need to think about the plot.
2 I think they might be in retirement in this time. At least Constantine is. Swamp Thing…never heard of him.
3 I was already planning that one. So don't worry.
4 Sure. Giganta could be a love interest for Flash. She is the first girl who actually flirted back to him.
5 Nope. The Teen Titans aren't formed yet. Also, I don't like him.
6 That's a surprise.
Don't worry, it's a little long, but I appreciate it.
KodiakWolfe13- Actually, it was Vlad's fault. Let's all blame Vlad. Yeah, Joker Specter is terrifying, good thing we don't live in that universe.
H. - Relax. Here's the next chapter.
john- They'll be in the JLU series. Unless you want me to turn them to make them a little younger, like Phantom's age? That does sound good.
The Keeper of Worlds- Thanks. :D
Totong- Oh yeah, that was awesome with Batman seeing Joker wherever he goes. It's like no matter what, he would always antagonize Batman. And yeah, Batman is the World's Greatest Detective, not Sherlock XD.
Fanboy316- Yeah, but he got beat up by Batgirl. Hehehee. She was still a rookie then. Vlad is no longer a secret, so he won't do any sneak attacks.
DinoZilla- I'm guessing Vlad's richer since he overshadowed a lot of rich guys.
ToaGaimZXA- Thanks.
Vin- Well, it's a harem now, I think.
thesightstillhauntsme- Thanks. Glad you're back. Thanks for the cookie.
Guest- Updated completed.
And finally done! That took longer than I thought. I mean, I am tweny pages, counting the Author's Notes, which took two pages. Also, school is almost starting, so my updates are gonna be on hold. Also, Danny Phantom still needs food and air, but only because he thinks he needs it. It's like how Superman thought he needed food and oxygen, when all he needed was the yellow Sun's energy. I'm gonna do that with Danny, that's why he needed the rebreather.
Next chapter, distress in Mars? Space trip! See you later!
