-The next morning-
"Okay, everyone, now!", Atta shouted with a wave of her hands. We were all helping pull the fake bird to the top of the tree. It was quite the workout, but it was worth it. Francis and I hugged each other. The ants were all cheering as we were one step closer to stopping the Grasshoppers.
(Angela's P.O.V.)
I never knew that flying for a long time can be so tiring. I exhaled a breath, "See any landmarks? I knew this would take a lot of flying, but I'm getting a bit tired! Please tell me that we're almost there!".
Hopper looked in the distance. "I can say that we are halfway there.", Hopper said with a soft, thoughtful nod. I sighed, but flying was worth it if it meant seeing my children again.
I nodded, "Right, I ain't giving up!", and Hopper laughed lightly, "I never had any doubt. After all, you'll probably have the biggest smile when you hug your kids.". I blushed brightly. Hopper chuckled heartily.
"I think I can see Ant Island!", I squealed excitedly. Hopper glanced, and chuckled, "Dang, you have better eyesight than me...with one eye, anyway.". I chuckled as I kept smiling as I was one step closer from seeing my children.
But then we heard a familiar sound behind us... I turned my head over, seeing Hopper do the same, and we screamed in horror as the Bird is approaching us, and we flew fast as we could. "What do we do?! If we go to Ant Island...We might put everyone in danger!", I shouted as we tried to fly away from the bird.
Hopper growled lowly, "I don't want you to lose your kids as we will misdirect the bird! Do the zig-zag to confuse him!", whirring his wings to the right, and I instantly got what he was saying, and directed my wings to the left.
It seemed to be working as the Bird kept turning its head in confusion and frustration. "Keep it up! It's working!", Hopper shouted. I nod my head...but I failed to notice the Bird's wing coming towards me...
I yelled as the wing hit me, and I fell out of balance, feeling that my wings are out of whack as I screamed, falling and falling before I saw black, barely hearing Hopper's voice scream out, "Angela!".
(Hopper's P.O.V.)
I saw that Angela was not moving once she hit the ground. I quickly flew down. I then picked Angela up, and then I ran inside a log.
I panted heavily as I heard the bird stomping around, doing its annoying sounds as it's searching for me and Angela, and exhaled slowly as I heard the sound of wings flapping, realizing that the bird is giving up. I looked instantly at Angela, shaking her shoulder, "Angela, Angela, wake up! Please!", tears falling down my face uncontrollably, listening desperately for her heartbeat and breathing, and I shakily sobbed as I heard it, holding her tight.
I had to get her help! But I was too far away from the hideout. I had no choice, but I knew I had to take her to Ant Island. "Don't worry...Angela...I'm going to get you help.", I whispered softly.
I gently held her as I looked out carefully, edging out of the log, slowly flying upwards to the edge of the grass, relieved to see no bird anywhere, and I pinpointed my eyes upon Ant Island, and nodded with a determined frown, glancing momentarily at Angela before I then sped up, flying fast as I could to the island, hoping that Angela is right about Dr. Flora and her department.
(Chris' P.O.V.)
"To the Bird!", Everyone cheered. Everyone was celebrating that the Bird was finally completed, and I stood next to Francis as he dismissed the blueberries.
"Blueberries! Dismissed!", Francis said with a wide smile. I chuckled softly, "You taught them well, Francis. They adore you. No wonder why you're a role model to them.".
"Should I tell them the truth...that I am not a lady?", Francis asked casually. "Nah...let them figure it out on their own.", I chuckled with a smirk. I saw that Flik and Atta were dancing with Alex and Ashley beside them.
Francis chuckled warmly, "They sure are having fun. They really were excited when they heard that they were allowed to stay the night, no bedtime curfew.". I laughed softly, "Oh, believe me, there are times they are allowed to stay past bedtime when their mother said it, so it's normal to me.".
"They really love Flik and Atta.", Francis said with a smile. "Well, Flik and Atta did really promise Angela that they too would look out for the twins...and Angela did have a very close friendship with Flik as she saw him like a brother." I said.
Francis nodded, "Makes sense.", before suddenly, we heard a very loud scream. "Anybody, anybody help!".
"Who said that?", I asked in confusion, looking around. "I don't know.", Francis said, shaking his head.
(Flik's P.O.V.)
I was dancing with Atta and the twins when we heard someone yelling. "Who's yelling?", Atta asked with a worried expression as she looked around. The twins hugged us out of fright. The voice came out again, "Please! My friend's hurt! I need Dr. Flora's help!".
"Wait...that voice...it couldn't be...", Atta said as she comforted Ashley. "Look!", Alex shouted as he pointed at something in the sky.
I looked up, and soon as I got a better look, I gasped in shock and horror as I saw Hopper flying in the sky, but I blinked in confusion as he's carrying something. As he got closer, I saw actual tears going down Hopper's face, and he screamed out, "It's Angela! Please help her!", and sure enough, just as he got even more closer, I saw Angela in his arms, unconscious...I yelled out, "Angela!", barely hearing the twins sob as they ran out from us, calling out, "Momma!".
"Angela!?", I heard Chris shout. I and Atta ran towards Hopper. "Momma!", the twins cried. "Why won't she wake up!?", Alex cried with tears.
Hopper panted heavily as he landed, "I was taking her home to you kids when the bird came out of nowhere. He was chasing us and we were trying to escape him by using tricks...I...the wing slammed her into the ground...She's hurt...", a guilty, worried, frantic look forming on Hopper's face, "Please, is there a Dr. Flora? Angela talked about her! Please, she needs help!", looking at me and Atta.
I saw that Atta had a look of hesitation on her face. "There's no time...we have to take her to Dr Flora now!" The Queen shouted hastily.
Hopper looked grateful, "Thank you, your Highness.", holding Angela a tad firmer in his arms, "I got you home, Angela. Your kids are here...", tears already dry, but there is still worry and anxiety as he walked on, ignoring us. Did...did he actually bring her all the way here? Does he care for her?...
"Listen here, Hopper...you better not be lying...I will not hesitate to kick your butt.", Chris warned with a glare. "I'm not...lying.", Hopper said firmly. "Follow us!", The Queen said as she led us back to the Anthill.
-Small time skip-
I sighed heavily as I sat upon a toadstool, glancing to see Hopper pacing with hands behind his back, anxiety in his face, and I looked over to see Alex and Ashley huddling into each other with Chris nearby to watch over them. Up ahead is the curtain of large leaves, blocking the entrance to the hospital wing. Dr. Flora is currently with Angela, and Atta is sitting near me while the Queen is inside, talking with the apprentice healers.
"Is mom going to be okay?", Alex asked worriedly. "Your mom is strong, she is going to be okay.", Chris said with a firm nod.
Ashley nodded, "She is always tough, but a bird is not to be messed around with. She taught us that...". I heard a chuckle from Hopper, "Figures. She loves you two, and she never lies about that when she talked about you...", trailing off with a slight somber look when he looks at the twins...Do he know the truth?...Did Angela tell him that?...
"What do you mean by that, Hopper?", Atta asked in surprise. "Did Angela tell you...the...?", I asked in amazement and horror.
Hopper looked at me, "About her brother and the attack of the bad guys? Yep...Ya don't need to worry about me...It...was my fault I didn't...It was so fast...She flew all the way with me all night and today...She wasn't giving up...I don't know...if she actually heard me...", and he looked down, guilt all over his face and voice, looking like he's trying hard to hold back tears, clearly being stoic.
"What happened, Hopper?", Atta asked quietly. "How did she get injured?", Gyspy asked softly as she comforted the twins.
Hopper exhaled harshly before replying, "We shoulda have kept a better lookout for that fricking bird...But she was so happy, talking about her kids and asking if we're almost home...I couldn't help talking back, and we didn't hear that bird until he was 'most on us! We went on confusing him, doing tricks left and right, zigging-zagging all over...I was calling out to her...she didn't see the wing, that frigging wing...I was trying to reach her when I heard her scream, and I saw her falling...I screamed for her when...she hit the ground...I thought she was...I took her to a log as the bird was crazy looking for us...I tried to wake her up...", pants heaving from Hopper as he relieved the moments...
"Oh, dear!", Rosie said with a gasp of shock. "So it was the bird's fault that Angela got injured.", Chris said with a growl. Dr. Flora then walked out with a sad look on her face.
"How's Angela?", Atta asked anxiously. "Is our mom going to be okay?", Alex and Ashley asked at the same time, looking really scared and worried.
Dr. Flora sighed heavily, "The good news is that Angela is out of the danger zone. She's just sleeping very deeply. A coma, I presume, through I don't blame her as her injuries is quite bad, through they're non-threatening, thank heavens. Her wings are twisted, through not torn, gratefully, and it is difficult to tell if she will fly again. She got a nasty egg on the back of her head, clearly a sign of a crash from a high height. Her exoskeleton saved her mostly, so, her body is covered in bruises, but her shoulder is really sprained. She must have hit into her side when she fell, from the looks of it.".
Alex and Ashley started to cry loudly. I, Atta, Chris, Gyspy, Rosie, and Manny started to comfort them. "But when will she wake up?", I asked urgently. Dr. Flora shook her head, "Now that I don't know...It's up to her. She will probably wake up when she feels like she has healed enough.".
Hopper exhaled sharply, "How long could that take?". Dr. Flora looked thoughtful, "Perhaps two weeks to a month. But you're welcome to visit her, all of you. Just two to three in the room at any time so she wouldn't be too stressed out. And if you talk to her, she'd possibly hear you.".
"You three go first.", Atta said to Chris and the twins with a nod.
