"You have been waiting to see your mother for a while." I said with a sad smile on my face. "Come on.", Chris said softly to the twins.
(Chris' P.O.V.)
I and the twins walk into the room.
I could see Angela laying upon the fluff-leaf bed, and she got a bandage with some kind of berry cream into the head, a bandage with flower nectar upon the shoulder, and as she's laying on the side, I could see her wings twisted and folded up into unrecognizable shapes, but no tears anywhere. Since I and Francis have the smallest hands next to the pill bug brothers, I could talk to Dr. Flora about straightening and fixing her wings up into proper shape...Bruises litter around her body; blue, purple, black. Despite all of that, she looks like she's sleeping deeply, her face fixed into a neutral look...
"Mom." Alex and Ashley whimpered as they walk up to her. "Sis.", I said softly.
"Mom, please wake up.", Alex cried quietly. "Please.", Ashley cried with a sob.
I watched them grab into Angela's hands, and she didn't do anything. No twitching, muttering, change of her breathing. I sighed heavily, "Dr. Flora's right, kids. You remember the hospital back home?".
Alex looked at me, and nodded, "Doctors know best...People needs time to heal...She's really tired, isn't she?". I nodded, "Yeah. Don't worry, we will visit her every day when we can. She will understand that the Blueberries needs you, and I need to help the colony with the picking of the food.".
I hugged the twins to comfort them as we all prayed that Angela would wake up.
(Angela's P.O.V.)
"Where am I?", I asked in bewilderment and confusion. I blinked in surprise as I saw that I was human again, and I was sitting right besides a pond with a fountain, a very familiar fountain back home. I exhaled softly as this spot was my brother's favorite place to sketch and think, and I spoke out loud, "I really miss you, big brother...".
I watched the water bubble over the fountain, the sound of it relaxing to my ears before I heard footsteps faintly, and I heard a voice laugh softly, "I usually got here first, little sis.", and I gasped quietly when I recognized the rich tenor of the voice, slowly looking over, and I breathed shakily, "J-Josh?".
Standing right before me is a tall, young man of 17 years, deeply tanned from being a lifeguard, with his roguish black hair that fell short of his ears, and bright blue eyes glinting of love and mischief. Josh gave me a wide smile, "Well, are ya gonna hug me or what?", and I sobbed, getting up so fast, plowing into him, instinctively hugging him as I took in his trademark cologne of clover and oak, feeling him kiss me through my hair, "I got you, Angie.", calling me by that nickname I haven't heard in so long since that day...
I kept crying as I hugged my brother so hard. I don't want to let go of him or he would vanish. "Shhh...shhh..Angie...", Josh said softly, rubbing my back gently. "H-H-How are you here?", I sobbed softly, staring at him.
Josh chuckled warmly, "I have always been with you, little sis. You just couldn't see me, but believe me, I sometimes gave a voice.", and I blinked in surprise, "Wait...it was you, about going to Ant Island, and telling Hopper?".
Josh grinned, "Surprise! I couldn't refuse from becoming a guardian angel for you, Angie, and oh, god, the twins are fantastic! They sure are so mature in their human selves, and oh, just adorable in their grasshopper selves. I am so proud of you!...I couldn't believe that Mom wouldn't even bother to hold them when the twins were born...And using that damn word...What was she thinking?!
"You are my guardian angel?", I asked in awe. "Yes..I have been always watching after you sis..to make sure no one would ever hurt you again.", Josh said with a smile on his face.
I sobbed as tears fell down my face. "How I wish the twins could have met you, Josh...You would have been an amazing Uncle.", I sobbed as Josh held me in his arms.
Josh laughed lightly, "That, I never doubted about. And oh, it was sure nice of you to name Alex's middle name after me," chuckled lightly, "and for Dad to name Ashley's middle name after my love of Hudson cars, I really laughed yet I was so happy!".
I smiled lightly with a giggle. "So you have seen...how mother has blamed me for your death?", I asked quietly with a frown.
Josh groaned lightly, "Oh, I can't believe Mom when she said that! I love you, little sis, and I could have done it a million times over to have you safe and free! I really wanted to hug you when I saw you crying sometimes after those...intense arguments.", grumbling lowly with a sigh.
"I know...I just wish that...mother could understand...", I sobbed quietly. Josh hugged me closer to him as he rubbed my back.
I felt him kiss my temple, and I heard him speak warmly, "Well, we have some time to talk. Come, let's sit for a while. And before you worry about your kids or Hopper, you will get back, I swear it on my pinky. Your physical body needs to heal first.", giving me a patient, soft smile as I looked at him, and nodded as we then sat upon the bench that I was sitting on earlier, knowing that pinky swears are the ultimate promise in this family.
-3 weeks later-
(Flik's P.O.V.)
It has been 3 weeks, and Angela still won't wake up. I sighed lightly as I looked up to see Dot playing with Ashley and Alex, apparently a game of tag, and I hear footsteps behind me. I looked back to see Atta, and I smiled softly, "Morning, Atta.".
Atta nodded, "Hello, Flik. Any change?", clearly asking about Angela, and I shook my head, "No, nothing. Her body is fine now, she gotta wake up soon. The twins are getting anxious.".
Atta sighed softly, "I don't blame them. Where's Hopper?". I gestured to the Anthill, "Visiting her as always. When he wakes up, he goes to her first thing in the morning. You know, I think he's actually not that bad...I mean, he apologized to me the other day when I accidentally came into him when he exited the chamber to Angela's room!".
"Now that you have mentioned it...Hopper does seem to be changing his ways?", Atta asked thoughtfully. "That's what everyone is thinking as well.", I said with a shrug.
Atta blinked in surprise, "Really?", and I nodded, knowing that gossip spreads fast through the colony. "Yeah...when he first got here..the rest of the ants were scared...but he didn't do anything or harm them.", I explained with a hum.
Atta got quiet for a moment before speaking softly, "You think he did it for Angela?". I sighed lightly, "It's obviously that. I mean, he carried her here! I have been thinking that he actually cares for her, not as a friend, but something other than that.".
"Now that I think about it...the twins have warmed up to Hopper..", Atta said. I nod my head as well. Let's just hope Angela will wake up soon.
(Hopper's P.O.V.)
I held Angela's hand as she still hasn't woken up. I sighed softly, "Oh, Angela, ya gotta wake up. The twins are missing out on your smile...", and I chuckled softly, "You were right about them...I actually got to know the twins...Alex, dang, he's quite smart, but he ain't bragging about it. He really loves his sister. Ashley, she's a chip off the block. She really likes hearing stories, and she loves dancing to the music.".
I squeezed Angela's hand a tad more, "Wish you've seen them working on this project with this Blueberry group of girls. The little princess, Dot, I believe, she is quite sassy when it comes to boys teasing her, just like you...Your twins help her out which is really cute. It's no wonder why you love those kiddos. Heck, I often hear your best friend referring to them as rascals, and I actually laughed out loud when they pranked Slim on Francis's behalf. A actual pie on the seat! He didn't see it coming!", chuckling out loud as I reminisced momentarily.
I then sighed lightly as I didn't get any motion from her, thinking that talking about a prank would have spurred some giggles from her, but nothing...I replied quietly, "That was worth a try...Please, Angela, wake up for me...", trailing off momentarily before I spoke lightly, "You know, when I saw you out there on the ground...I thought I lost you...I was so relieved when I heard your heartbeat, but I still didn't want to lose you as you looked so bad...I knew I cared about ya...but when I carried you home to Ant Island, I kept thinking of those days we spent back at the Hideout..".
"..Your smile, the way you giggle when I do a joke, the smug look when you flick off something at one of the boys during dinner, the patient smirk when you tolerated Molt's babbling talk, your beautiful voice when you sing...That day before we left, when you sang that song...I wanted you to be happy, and seeing you happy makes me glad that I was doing something right, and when I told you we'd go to Ant Island, oh, I think that was the moment I fell in love with you...", I breathed softly, "Yes, I am saying it...Angela, I love you...".
(Angela's P.O.V.)
"Josh...once I wake up...will I still be able to see you?", I asked curiously. Josh shook his head, "Unfortunately not, not every day anyway. I only am able to be seen by you in emergencies. The coma was a emergency, and I knew you needed company even if the others visit you in the hospital chamber. But I am always by your side, looking after you, and lend my voice when you are undecided about something.".
I hugged him, "I am still gonna miss you, Josh. It's weird...I don't feel like crying myself to bed when I remember that day now...", and Josh smiled at me, "That's because you now know that I am at peace, no longer in pain. Heck, I don't even mind about remaining to be 17 years old forever as long as I am there for you. Oh, of course, you will cry, but it will be happy tears for me when you remember that day's good parts.".
"Could you one day let the twins meet you...in their dreams maybe?", I asked hopefully. Josh smiled brightly. "Sure...I'll see when i can meet my niece and nephew..", Josh said with a nod. Then I started to hear...what sounded like...Hopper's voice?
I exhaled softly as I listened to Hopper, shocked that he's actually warming up to the twins, and actually laughed when he mentioned one of their pranks, and I gasped quietly when I heard his thoughts about me.
"Well, I'll be a grasshopper's uncle which I am, looks like Hopper's got the hots for you, little sis.", Josh chuckled softly, and I then heard his confession.
Josh whistled lowly, "Okay, I am impressed. Go on, Angie, tell him about what ya feel about him. I've known for ages that you had a crush on him, even from the first time you watched the movie when the twins were age-appropriate to watch it.".
