Secrets of the Past IIe
Chapter 6
It was nighttime in Willow Creek. Three black clothed figures could be seen emerging from the tree line into the backyard of the Ellison home.
They silently climbed up onto Matt's balcony. While two of them kept watch, the third jimmied the window. Raising it silently, they slipped inside. Across the darkened room was a form laying in the bed.
They crept across the room toward the bed, the ringleader drew a syringe out of his pocket and pulled the cap off the needle.
"This trouble making brat is about to wake up dead!" he whispered gleefully
"He'll never know what hit him." whispered another voice with a smirk in it.
"Right." Snickered the ringleader, then he stopped short.
"Wait a minute, who said that?!"
Suddenly there was the twang of a bowstring, and an instant later the ringleader cried out in pain as an arrow pinned his arm to the wall causing him to drop the syringe. The other two pulled out their guns, but before either of them could get a shot off they were disarmed and knocked out.
Matt's parents Peter and Amy came running, they got there just as Matt turned on the light and opened the door. His parents rushed into the room. His dad was carrying his own pistol.
"Matt." Said his mother, "Are you okay?!"
"I'm fine Mom." Said Matt, "I was expecting them. they're some of Scheckter's muscle."
"Amy call the police." Said Matt's father. He kicked the guns the two thugs had dropped out into the hallway.
Amy grabbed her phone and started dialing.
"You think you're so smart, don't you, Ellison." said the thug who was pinned to the wall, "But just wait, the night isn't over yet."
Matt's eyes narrowed.
"What do you mean by that?" he snapped
"Axel shut up!" hissed one of the others who had come to just in time to hear what was going on, "You want Scheckter to skin you alive?!"
Matt clubbed the thug knocking him out again. Then he turned on Axel putting another arrow in his bow and drawing it.
"Axel you'd better start talking unless you want to make medical history!" he warned with a just-try me and-see-if-I'm-kidding look on his face.
"No, No, don't shoot me again," Axel pleaded, "I'll talk, I'll talk! Scheckter also has some men ready to go after that Circus girl who's been helping you. they're going to torch the camp if we don't come back. Those were their orders!"
Matt returned the arrow to his quiver and rushed into to his walk-in closet. He returned with a slim metal case that he was putting into the inside pocket of his Jacket.
"Dad, I've got to go help Evie," he said
"Go ahead," said his father, "I'll be fine."
Matt hurried down the stairs and out the door. he raced through the woods to Diablo Hollow Wisteria came running up to him as soon as he emerged from the trees.
Matt looked at the mare.
"You know something's wrong, don't you?" he said.
Wisteria gave a nod.
Matt pulled himself up on her back and they raced off to the Moondance camp. As Matt rode, he pulled out his phone and sent Evie a text.
Evie had just gotten up to get a drink of water when her phone buzzed. She looked at the text and was instantly wide awake.
She immediately woke up her parents and showed them the text. Rafael and Lisa jumped out of bed and got dressed. Evie went and woke up Risa and they dressed rapidly. Evie pulled out her bow and threw her quiver over her shoulder. Risa hurried off to warn the rest of the camp.
Lisa walked over to a trunk in the corner of the room. opening it she pulled out her sword.
"I need your help again, old friend." She said speaking quietly to the sword.
Evie was out the door as fast as she could. A few later Matt came galloping up. He jumped off Wisteria and told her to go hide. Wisteria gave a nod and galloped off.
"Okay," said Evie, as her family joined them outside the trailer, "There are only two ways in and out of the camp."
"Actually, there are three." Said Rafael
"There are?" Asked Risa
"Yeah," said Lisa pointing in the opposite direction from the main road, "There's an old logging road over there that not many people know about."
"Do you think that Scanlon's men will know about it?" asked Risa
"If we're going to stop them, we can't take the chance that they don't." Replied Matt
"Alright, Matt," said Rafael, "You're the one that's tangled with these guys before, so it's your show."
"Guard the entrances," said Matt, "And round up all the fire extinguishers you can find we may need them."
Rafael nodded and they hurried off to take up their defensive positions.
When Evie and Matt got to their position guarding the old logging road, Matt pulled out the thin metal case. When he opened the case Evie saw some fierce looking black and silver arrowheads with serrated edge.
"What are those?" asked Evie
"They're special arrowheads loaded with explosives," Replied Matt, "I don't usually use them outside of test fires every so often, but I have a feeling we're going to need them tonight. So, get out some your arrows and start switching out the arrowheads.
Evie nodded and set to work.
They had each armed about 10 arrows with the explosive heads when Matt suddenly stopped what he was doing he raised his head like he heard something.
"What is it?" asked Evie
"I hear something," Replied Matt. He turned and climbed up a nearby oak tree.
His eyes zoomed in on something in the distance.
"What can you see?" called Evie
"They're coming up the old logging road on ATVs!" said Matt climbing down, "and from the main road in jeeps!"
"How many of them did you see?" asked Evie sending a text to her mother
"6 ATVs and 2 jeeps." Replied Matt, "The ATVs are closer."
Evie nodded finished her texts.
"We need to finish off these ATVs quickly, then get over to help your mother with the jeeps."
Evie nodded and they took up their positions. A few seconds later, Evie heard the rumble of engines. She put an arrow into her bow and they got ready.
A moment later the ATVs came flying over a hump that sent them airborne. As soon as the undersides of the ATV's were exposed in midair, Matt and Evie fired. Their arrows struck the machines and exploded.
The riders were blown backwards by the shockwaves slamming into the riders behind them knocking them off their ATVs. Evie and Matt sprang out of hiding just the last two ATV riders slammed into the pile of wreckage and were thrown to the ground. Evie and Matt clubbed them with their bows and knocked them out.
Then they turned and ran for the camp and toward the sound of jeeps engines. When they came around the corner of the big top. They saw Evie's mother Lisa standing calmly in the direct path of the oncoming jeep wranglers. The jeeps were loaded with tough looking men wielding Molotov cocktails.
"What is your mother doing?!" said Matt
"Trust me," said Evie, "My mother knows what she's doing…I hope."
Just as the Jeeps reached her, Lisa, with a lightning-fast move, drew her sword and slashed their tires! the jeeps spun out of control and over turned causing the would-be arsonists to drop their Molotov cocktails on the ground.
Evie, Matt, and Risa together with Lisa and Rafael laid into the muscle heads while the others used fire extinguishers to put out the fires.
After the fight was over and the bad guys were hogtied, Rafael hugged Lisa and gave her a kiss. Then he smirked at her.
"What?" she said
"You pull stunts like that trick to stop the jeeps, then wonder where your daughters get it!" he teased
Lisa grinned and blush a little.
"Maybe they do take after me a little." She chuckled then her smile was replaced by a frown.
"As soon as the police haul these guys off, we are going to talk to some Biggins-Athertons and some DiAngelo-Mucahys!"
"But Lise," said Rafael, "It's 1'oclock in the morning!"
"I don't care! We'll wake them up!" snapped Lisa, "Somebody that their fathers are mixed up with just came after my family! They'd better pray that their fathers didn't know anything about this!"
