After finishing their walk, they decided to go to the pub they'd frequented so many times with the boys, Rosemary, Juliet, and Stephanie to celebrate their engagement. As they ate, Rory couldn't stop looking at the ring that was now glinting on her finger. The silver band had a large diamond in the center, with sapphires and diamonds lining the band on each side. Every time she looked at it, she felt an overwhelming wave of happiness break over her. Logan watched her while he took a bite of his salad.

"See something you like there, Ace?" he asked. Rory started and looked up to see him smiling at her. She smiled back and reached over to lay a hand on top of Logan's.

"I do. I love my ring, it's beautiful. I love the man who put it on my finger so much more. I-I'm so excited to start this next chapter with you, Logan." Logan pulled his hand out from under hers to enclose her fingers in his own.

"I'm excited too, Rory. Have you thought about when you'd like to get married? It doesn't have to be right away. We can – we can wait a year or two," Logan rubbed the back of his neck. It was just starting to sink in for him he and Rory were now engaged and they were going to spend the rest of their lives together. Rory took a bite of her salad and smiled to herself. Over the last three years, Logan's healthy habits had rubbed off on her. She finished chewing before she answered.

"I don't want to wait two years, that seems too long to me. I think if we got married next spring or next summer that would be nice. I love the idea of having an outdoor wedding," she admitted. Logan nodded as the two of them finished their salads and split the bill. They left the pub hand in hand and made their way back to their apartment.

"I like the idea of having an outdoor wedding too. Maybe we could get married somewhere on the Yale campus, or at the very least have our wedding photos done here," Logan suggested as they turned onto the last block before their apartment. Rory nodded and laid her head on Logan's shoulder as he lifted their entwined hands to kiss hers.

"I think that's a great idea. For now, we should decide how and when we're going to tell people we are officially engaged," she pointed out. Logan nodded as they reached their building and he buzzed them in but didn't say anything until they were inside their apartment.

"Well, I think we should wait until after your graduation party tonight to announce it," Logan said. At Rory's quizzical look, he quickly explained, "It's not that I don't want to tell people we're engaged, Ace. Believe me, I want to shout it from the rooftops I'm the luckiest man in the world and I'm engaged to the woman I love more than anything. But I also know you're going to be the center of attention tonight, and if we announce our engagement at the party, the D.A.R. ladies will be all over you and me," he finished. To his relief, the look on Rory's face was now one of understanding.

"So, you're saying you would be okay with it if I didn't wear my ring tonight?" she checked. Logan nodded and took her left hand in his, inspecting the ring.

"As much as I would love seeing you wear it, I know these things are like magnets. Tonight is for you, Ace. I just want you to enjoy your graduation party, and if I'm being completely honest, I kind of like having the knowledge we're engaged now just between us. The rest of the world can wait." Rory smiled and wrapped her arms around Logan's neck while he locked his around her waist.

"I like the sound of that. A secret engagement with my fiancé. It's kind of hot," Rory purred. Logan smirked. That was the only warning Rory had before Logan lifted her off her feet, making her squeal in surprise as her shoes fell off.

"Logan! My shoes!" she squealed as she wrapped her legs around Logan's waist. He spun her around once before carrying her over to the couch and laid her down on it before carefully lying on top of her.

"You're going to be wearing heels in a couple of hours, you should give your feet a break," he said before capturing Rory's lips with his own. Rory let out a mewl that was very unlike her and pulled him closer. Her hands were just slipping under Logan's shirt when his phone began to ring.

"Are you going to get that?" Rory panted as they broke apart for air. Logan shook his head and bent down to kiss her again. He ignored his phone as it continued to ring, shivering as the cold metal of Rory's engagement ring touched his bare skin. His phone finally stopped ringing only to start again. Logan sighed as he lifted himself off of Rory and answered it.

"Hey Dad, what's going on?" he asked. Rory sat up and swung her legs over until her feet were resting on the ground. As she stood up, she indicated she was going to shower and Logan nodded before he took the call into the kitchen. Rory padded into the bathroom and took her towels off the rack.

She looked at her engagement ring as she turned on the shower and wondered how long Logan had been planning on proposing. Did her grandparents know? Her mother? Her – oh no. How was her mother going to take the news she was engaged now? Lorelai had never been the biggest fan of Logan. Come to think of it, her mother had been jealous when Rory began to bond with her grandparents and establish a relationship with them.

Testing the water with her finger, Rory undressed quickly and carefully slipped off her ring before she climbed into the shower. As she washed her hair, she thought about her mother some more. A memory from Valentine's Day weekend a year ago popped into her mind. When she'd told her mother she thought Luke and Logan could be their ones, Rory had noticed a look on Lorelai's face. An expression she couldn't quite identify. What was it? Fear? Jealousy? Apprehension?

Rory shook her head as she rinsed the conditioner from her hair, she shouldn't be concentrating on this now. She was graduating from Yale tomorrow and she was engaged to the love of her life. Rory marvelled at how much had changed in the last twelve hours as she shut the water off and wrapped a towel around her body before wrapping another one around her head.

As she rubbed lotion onto her legs, there was a knock at the door. A moment later, Logan pushed the door open.

"You don't have to knock you know, I knew it was you out there," Rory said as she continued to massage the lotion into her skin. Logan's eyes fell to her toned legs before he mentally shook himself.

"What if I'd been a serial killer?" he asked.

"Then you would have been a very polite one," Rory answered back. Both of them chuckled. Turning serious, Rory asked, "How was your call with your Dad?" Logan closed the door behind him and began to unbutton his shirt.

"It was good. He wants us to come over for dinner one night this week," he replied. Rory looked at him with a puzzled look on her face as she unwound the towel from her hair.

"Why? I mean it's nice he wants us to come for dinner, but I can't help but wonder –"

"If he has an ulterior motive? I wondered that too. You realize we'll have to tell them about the engagement, right?" Rory nodded as she set her lotion down and wrapped her arms around Logan's neck, who buried his nose in her hair and breathed in her scent.

"Yes, I do realize that. And I know there's a good chance it might not be taken well, but I don't care. Honor and Josh will be supportive, I already know that."

"But my Mom and my grandfather—Rory, after the way they treated you, I would totally understand if you want me to tell them alone," Logan said, only to be met by a shake of Rory's head.

"No, Logan. I know I've avoided your family, besides Honor and Josh, for the better part of three years, but I can't do that anymore. We're going to be husband and wife, and we fight our battles side by side. I will not let myself be intimidated by your family anymore. We are in this together, and when you tell them, I'm going to be right by your side," Rory said fiercely. Logan nodded and hugged Rory tighter.

"Okay. Then I want to be there when you tell your Mom. You're right, Ace. We're stronger when we stand side by side than we are when we face the world alone. I love you so much, Rory." Rory kissed his cheek and rubbed his back comfortingly, she knew telling their families was inevitable, and she would be lying if she said she wasn't dreading it a little.

"I love you too, Logan. Now get in the shower, Mister. We have a party to get to!" she said cheekily. Logan chuckled and released Rory before he finished undressing. He stepped past her to the shower.

"It's too bad my Dad called when he did, we could have conserved water," he said with a wink as he turned on the shower.

"Oh, Logan!"

Jumpingaces: I'm so glad you think so, I got a little emotional when I finally wrote the proposal, not going to lie! The book box was my friend's idea, she suggested the ring be in a book or something and I thought, "hmm, a book box would suit Rory and Logan perfectly!" I love them too and it makes me happy that they're happy. I wish they could have been happy in the show as well.

52shari: Thank you! I really wanted to do something meaningful for Rory and Logan. They both love literature, they had one of their best scenes in the library, and Logan knows how much Rory loves books. A private proposal is much more meaningful and less nerve-wracking than a public one. We will have to wait and see! Typhoon Lorelai sets my teeth on edge, I think another appropriate name for her would be Hurricane Lorelai.

December Jeffries2: I'm so glad you loved the proposal! I thought the wooden box shaped like a book would be a lovely reminder of the day they got engaged and they can also put things in it. That's what I thought too, I knew Logan wouldn't propose to her just anywhere, it had to be somewhere that meant something to both of them. I hope you liked the description of the ring I included at the beginning of Chapter 5. I'm quite looking forward to everyone's reactions to them being engaged and moving to California, well, except maybe Lorelai's. I agree with you on that count. I never understood that either, she was always encouraging Rory to spread her wings a little in high school and go out more, but when Rory started doing that in university Lorelai did a complete 180. You can't be a foreign correspondent if you stay in a small town like Stars Hollow and she definitely cannot make her dreams come true if she stays in Stars Hollow. Lorelai's guilt trips are classic but I agree, Lorelai, and the town of Stars Hollow by extension, need to realize Rory's graduation day is about her and the other graduates and not about them. A lot of people seem to be of that opinion, I guess we will have to wait and see what happens ;)

Hellie2001: Hello! I'm so glad you love the story. I don't think he would have either, it really makes me wonder what was going on in the writers' heads when they wrote the final few episodes. Lorelai is definitely more manipulative than Emily and she definitely has never been the adult or the parent in her relationship with Rory and that is something I plan to explore in later chapters. Lorelai is definitely self-centred and egocentric, and we see that more than once in the show and I've seen it in countless fanfiction stories I have read.

Mvnlaredo: I'm so glad you enjoyed the proposal scene :) Thank you! That was actually one of the few scenes I didn't have to write and rewrite because I knew how I wanted it to go and I was happy when it came out the way I wanted it to the first time around.
