A/N: This is basically just a self indulgent jori texting fic inspired from/by a chat with a new friend on tumblr (ffn/ao3: Mandajoy92). ❤️
Jade glanced down at the lower corner of her laptop again, noting the time: it was almost midnight. While she was used to staying up late (she usually stayed up watching crime documentaries on Netflix until she fell asleep), she just wasn't used to not getting a goodnight reply back from her girlfriend. Tori had been dragged along on a week long vacation with her family over the two week holiday break they had gotten off from school, so Jade knew she was busy, but they had been able to arbitrarily talk to each other throughout the day and every night before this one. She didn't want to let herself feel like she was being clingy, she just wanted a reply.
Jade watched a few more minutes pass on her laptop's clock before switching tabs from the blogging website she was on back to the current crime documentary she was watching on Netflix, trying to get herself back absorbed into the show and not worry about the fact that she still hadn't heard from Tori.
She'd just started getting immersed again when her phone screen suddenly lit up, and Tori's special text tone jingle played. Jade let it play before grabbing at her phone, feeling her heart leap in her chest when she saw her girlfriend's name on the screen.

Hey! Sorry, Trina finally fell asleep so I finally got a moment to myself. Hope you haven't gone to sleep yet so I can say goodnight and I love you, but if you have, I hope you sleep well and I love you. ❤️
Jade's relief at finally hearing from Tori washed over her (overriding the fact that of course it had been Trina preventing Tori from texting her), and she quickly unlocked her phone and typed out her reply.
Nope, I'm awake and glad to hear from you. Now I'll be able to sleep better. Goodnight, love you too. ❤️
She sent the text before turning her phone's screen off and placing it in the empty spot next to her on her bed. Now that she'd been able to say goodnight, she felt better. She settled back in her bed, still missing the feeling of Tori snuggling by her side (they often slept over at the other's house during the week, and when they did, they usually watched a nice show or movie before bed; it was only after it was over and Tori was asleep snuggled by Jade's side that Jade put on the Forensic Files episodes she usually fell asleep herself to because Tori didn't like the goriness of them).
She hadn't expected a new text from Tori, but when her phone went off after a few minutes, she reached for her phone to see what she'd replied.
Vega ❤, 12:01 am
Aw, you're sweet ❤
Jade's first response was to tell her girlfriend not to call her sweet, but before she could stop herself she erased it and typed something else.
We're both sweet. And seriously, you know how I get when I don't get to sleep next to you. Nights are hard for me when you're gone. It felt good to be able to at least hear from you. So thanks. ❤
She immediately felt disgustingly cheesy for that reply, but supposed it was because it was that time of night when her emotions were always a bit wonky. Many a late night talk or cuddle with Tori had gradually helped her to lower her high, mean walls. (Only Tori got to ever see that side of her, though; she was back to her regular self during the day and to anyone else.)
She was a bit surprised to hear another text come in after a minute, and looked at her phone yet again.
Vega ❤, 12:03 am
Anything to help a pretty lady 😘❤
Jade rolled her eyes but typed out a quick response.
Pfft...now who's the sweet one?
She stared at her phone, now anticipating a new text. Her show droned on in the background.
Vega ❤, 12:04 am
I thought you said we both were sweet? 😘
Again, Jade's automatic response was to tell Tori not to call her sweet, but again, she typed something else other than that.
Fine, we both are.
Vega ❤, 12:06 am
Good girl 😘❤
Jade had to read the message twice. She hadn't been expecting...that reply. She couldn't help the blush she felt suddenly come over her face in the dark. She sent out a reply that made her heart skip a beat, lowkey eager for the reply.
😘 /pretends not to blush
Vega ❤, 12:07 am
Oh, someone likes being called 'good girl', huh? 😘❤
Now she'd done it. Damn the wonky feelings hours. (She was torn; she silently appreciated Tori's reply, feeling the blush come back strong as ever, but she felt like she still had to play it cool.)
Don't do this, Vega.
Vega ❤, 12:09 am
I'm picturing you with a pretty blush on your face right now, Jade. I bet it looks cute af 😘
Jade rolled her eyes, but the blush hadn't gone away yet. In fact, it only intensified.
I don't know what you're talking about.
Vega ❤, 12:10 am
Don't play innocent, I know you're blushing right now, Jade 😘❤
She was, but she was also glad her girlfriend had no idea.
Of course I'm not.
Vega ❤, 12:11 am
Now you're just asking for it, Jade.
Maybe she was, maybe she wasn't (spoiler alert: she was).
I'm really just lying here in bed, Tori.
Vega ❤, 12:12 am
Well, I bet you look adorable lying in bed, but you'd look even more adorable wrapped up in my arms ❤❤
Jade felt a pang in her heart. The same one she'd been feeling all that week that Tori had been gone.
Oh low blow, you know that's exactly what I want right now. My bed feels so empty without you.
She'd be mortified if anyone else ever saw this side of her. But she knew Tori would never tell anyone.
Vega ❤, 12:14 am
You know I would love to be there to cuddle you ❤ You're so special to me and should be treated as such, my love.
'My love'. Jade's second secret weakness.
Okay, don't completely melt on me here, Vega.
Vega ❤, 12:15 am
You know you love it 😘❤
Tori had her there.
Okay...now go to sleep, it's late for you.
She lowered her phone for a moment, the bright outline of her screen still visible when she closed her eyes. She'd thought that was the last text, but was a bit happy that her girlfriend wasn't through with texting her yet.
Vega ❤️, 12:17 am
I know it is. You probably have Forensic Files on by now, huh?
Jade looked to her laptop screen again, her show at about the halfway mark, the oddly soothing narrator's voice droning on about the circumstances of the murder. She'd just begun to work out what had happened before Tori had texted her (even though she'd seen the episode before and already knew the outcome; she'd seen all of them before).
You know me so well.
Vega ❤️, 12:18 am
I know you're adorable 😘 ❤😘 ❤
Jade rolled her eyes again, despite the tiny smile she couldn't stop from happening.
Please. ❤️
Vega ❤️, 12:20 am
Well, you are 😘
Jade let out a little groan as she made her next reply.
Vega!
Vega ❤, 12:21 am
😘❤️ Okay, fine, I'll stop. Go watch your Forensic Files and get yourself to sleep, pretty lady.
Tori was seriously going to be the death of Jade. She wondered if anyone had ever died from blushing too hard and then thought how gross she sounded for thinking such a disgusting thought.
You're the one who should go to sleep, but fine. Only because it means I'll get to see you sooner. Text me when you're on your way home tomorrow.
Tori had only been gone about a week, but it had felt like much longer to Jade. She couldn't wait until she got back to Los Angeles tomorrow. There were still enough days in their holiday break to make up for Tori's absence with a few good nights of late night Netflix shows and cuddling before they had to return to Hollywood Arts.
Vega ❤️, 12:23 am
I will ❤️❤️ Goodnight, Jade ❤️
Jade read Tori's text a few times, savoring the words her girlfriend had sent, before typing out her own last reply for the night.
Goodnight, Tori ❤️
Then, she set her phone down next to her on her bed, and watched her show until she finally fell asleep.
A/N: Thanks for reading!
