Things at Hogwarts so far this year had been beyond insane. The chamber, the voice, every one watching his every move as if they expected to be attacked. When Harry had been visited by the house-elf Dobby, he had dismissed the advice to stay with the Dursleys. Thinking that his second year at school couldn't possibly be worse than the first.
Now though? Harry knew just how wrong he had been. Sure, Ron and Hermione hadn't abandoned him, but the pair were careful around him as if they were worried that they might set him off.
And to make matters worse, the attacks didn't stop at Mrs Norris.
Throughout the year people were petrified, and each time it was Harry that would receive the cold or fearful stares, the jinxes. He had very little to enjoy at all this year except for the time he got to. Spend with his new feline friend...
There was something odd he just could not figure out about that cat. Where did she come from? Was she someone's pet? A stray? Why did she always show up at the same time he, Harry did? It was bizarre.
But Harry wasn't going to complain. Not when that cat was his lifeline. Even Ron and Hermione couldn't help the way that cat did. And wasn't that sad? Harry Potter clinging to a cat as his current best friend.
He let out a snort. Perhaps he was going loopy, but right at that moment he truly wished his feline friend was human.
The nocturnal meetings of Harry and Daphne continued despite the rising threat of attacks. Sometimes Harry would come to their Tower just to relax and ramble about his day, Daphne curled up with him enjoying a scratch as he told her about his friends or homework.
Other times, Daphne could be found cuddling with him, letting Harry vent as she tried her best to comfort him.
It was after one of those nights that Daphne made the decision to take a leap.
As Harry was about to leave the great hall one morning, he was stopped by a tap on the shoulder.
Turning around he was surprised to see a Blonde girl standing there. The fact her robes were lined with Slytherin green automatically put him on edge.
"Sorry to bother you. I just wanted to say that..you have a friend in Slytherin...if you need one" the girl said before flashing a nervous smile.
It was weirdly formal and awkward, but Harry appreciated the gesture. Even if she was a snake.
"Thanks...I guess I need all the friends I can get right now."
Her smile widened, and Harry noticed her eyes for the first time. A beautiful Sapphire blue.
"See you later then, My name is Daphne by the way" she, Daphne said, walking away before he could reply.
Watching her go with a bewildered expression, Harry could have sworn Daphne was skipping...
From that point on, if Daphne and Harry shared a hallway or classroom. Harry would find either a note being passed his way or a smile. Little things that for some reason he found made him smile.
As of yet, they hadn't spoken, but it didn't seem to matter.
There was something about her...
