Words weren't necessary

Chapter 3

...

.

Ana stood in front of the hospital door, hesitating for a moment. As a sigh escaped her lips, her eyes fluttered shut, attempting to let her heart beat at a steady pace.

"Miss Steele! Great news!" the head nurse told her a little while ago." Mr. Grey has woken up"

This was what she had been waiting for, and praying for weeks now... Then why did she feel so on edge? Oh, she was definitely happy with the news. However, it caught her off guard, the guilt she had felt about Christian being injured, consuming her once more.

"Why aren't you inside, Miss Steele? He's been asking for you"

In response, Ana gave the nurse a pleading look." I will go see him... I just need time to process the wonderful news"

"Good! I love a couple being reunited" she said with a smile on her face, making Ana shake her head.

"We are not..." she started, but it was then when Mia and Grace rushed their way.

"Ana, he's finally awake!" Mia said happily, and gave her a hug.

Grace had tears in her eyes, and said." Let's go inside now, girls"

Before Ana could say anything though, the two women strode happily inside Christian's hospital room.

And here she was, alone in the hall, contemplating what to do. After having an internal battle with herself, Ana took a deep breath, gathered her courage and stepped inside the hospital room.

The second he noticed her, Christian's gray eyes lit up like a Christmas tree." Ana," he uttered, and extended his hand to her.

As their eyes locked, Ana felt her heart swell gloriously... he was sitting on the bed, awake and looking so much better." Christian" she whispered, and swallowed the huge lump in her throat.

"So, you are Anastasia," she heard a voice say, behind her, making them all look at the woman.

"Leila?" Christian uttered, while shaking his head." What are you doing here?"

"I wanted to see you, baby... I heard you got hurt"

Well, that was all Ana needed to hear, feeling as if someone had ripped out her heart from her chest, leaving her to bleed.

"I gotta go"

"Ana, wait! Please, come back" Christian tried, but it didn't matter now... she fled as if hounds were on her heels.

.

Two weeks had passed. Two weeks, since the day Ana fled from Christian's hospital bedroom. He had tried to make contact with her, but she kept refusing. At one point, Christian just gave up. She was a very stubborn woman, that was a fact.

From Mia, she heard that he was already back home, and that he was angry with her.

"You should go see him, girl" Mia told her.

However, Ana refused." Nope, he's got Leila now... he doesn't need me"

Well, that really frustrated Mia, being caught in the middle. On this side, Ana and the other, her big brother.

Both were very stubborn people!

"It isn't like that, Ana," she tried again." Leila heard about you two, and wanted to mess with your head. She means nothing to him!"

However, Ana wasn't convinced. Christian's ex-girlfriend had hit a nerve, causing her insecurity to surface again. "Nobody should play with my feelings"

Mia placed a hand on Ana's arm, and gave her a pleading look." Ana, please go visit him, so you both can work things out," she requested." Do it for yourself... for your own peace of mind. Will you?"

The next day...

.

As Ana drove to the Grey mansion, her hands started to tremble. She was going to give Christian a piece of her mind. Oh, yes she will!

On her way there, she had called Grace, and told her that she was coming over to talk to Christian.

Ana parked her car, and walked to the front door.

Dadum, dadum, dadum… Her heart rammed against her chest, as if it wanted to leap out of it.

'Breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in, breathe out.' Ana chanted in her head, just like Taylor had taught her.

She was just about to knock on the door, when it flew open.

"Hey, Ana! Come in, please" Mia said. She then hugged her tightly, and dragged her inside.

"Hi, Mrs. Grey... how are you doing?"

In response, Grace smiled and hugged her too." We're doing well, now that my son is getting better each day"

It was then, when Mia said." Bye, Ana... see you later"

"Wh- what? Where's she going?"

Grace smiled widely at her." So, Mia and I are going out! That means it will be just you and Christian in the house." she told Ana, then winked at her.

"But… I, I don't think that…" Ana stuttered." Christian and ..."

"No, its OK, Ana" Grace cut her off gently." Taylor has promised to take me and Mia out today. So, talk to him honey. He's been driving Mia and me crazy! He's being all broody the entire time, and when I ask what's wrong, he lies to me."

"But I cannot be alone with him now,"

"See you later, Ana" Grace said." Uhumm, another small thing. Christian doesn't like nurses; Mia and I have been taking care of him. But now that you're here, and we're going out… you're the one who's taking care of him. As in checking his wounds and see if his bandages must be replaced with a new one"

"Enjoy" Mia said, and winked at her too." Another thing: He doesn't know you're here"

"But… I uhumm, I… Mia!" Ana began, but stopped cause they were gone, leaving her speechless behind!

She groaned aloud, and contemplated what to do. Should she just leave? No, she couldn't just leave him, because his gunshot wounds must be checked.

"Aaargh!" Ana huffed loudly, and reluctantly walked up the stairs.

.

.

.

Christian was in the bedroom, calling out for his mother, and sister.

"Mom! Mia! Where are you guys? Its time to check my wounds." Ana heard him say from the stairs.

While walking towards his bedroom, Ana almost lost her nerve to stay. She stood in front of the bedroom door, biting her lip, postponing the inevitable.

Ana let out a deep breath, and it was then, when she heard him call for his sister again.

"Mia? Where are you?!"

Ana closed her eyes for a moment, and then opened the bedroom door. When Christian saw who was walking into his master bedroom, his breath got caught in his throat.

"Ana?" He whispered, his beautiful eyes on her.

"Hi. I'm here to help you with your bandages." she announced, her voice trembling heavily." Your mom and uhummm… Mia are out for the day. So, I'll be taking care of you, Christian."

"Ana, I need you to leave." He whispered, his voice breaking.

"Christian, why are you being such a pain in the ass?!" Ana scolded, her eyes fiery.

"I don't want you here." He said coldly." I've been trying to contact you for two whole weeks, but you've ignored and abandoned me. What kind of friend are you?!"

Ana shook her head in response." You know what, you're being such a jerk! I was the one who was humiliated by that woman?! Not you!"

He scoffed at that." Seriously? She means NOTHING to me, Ana! I've explained it to you in thirty voice mails, and yet you act like I kissed her in front of you or something! You're so stubborn!"

At this point, he was so frustrated about everything. He was confused, and hurt by Ana. And her being here right now, didn't make it easier for him. He just needed some space, to clear his head...

"You are stubborn, not me!" he heard her say." I sat at your bedside for three weeks! Three weeks, Christian! And the second you're awake, she hops back into your life, as if she was there for you, when you were still fighting for your life!"

He shook his head at her." I've explained myself already... multiple times" Christian uttered, while tears pooled in his eyes." Please go, Ana... I need to be alone now"

"No. I'm not going anywhere." She simply said, her hands on her hips.

"Why are you being so stubborn?" he asked.

Ana huffed at that. "I'm being stubborn?! You're the one who's stubborn! Since yesterday, I've called you, texted you, emailed you, telling you that..."

"Know now how it feels to be ignored?"

"You're like a spoiled child! That's what you are, Christian!" she scolded him, while being all up in his face.

In response, Christian let out a deep breath, and walked over to the window. Ana watched, as he avoided her gaze.

"Christian, I didn't come here to fight, OK. Let me help you. Please." She said.

As those words left her red lips, he looked up and locked his eyes onto her blue ones.

Ana. Ana.. Ana... Oh, God. Even though she had just scolded him, he couldn't help but to admire this woman. She looked so beautiful, when she was angry. So beautiful!

'God, I'm so in love with her. I care so much about her that it physically hurts to be away from her. I can't fight this anymore…' Christian thought, as a sigh escaped his lips.

Ana closed the gap between them, giving him a pleading look.

In response, he nodded. "OK, I could really use the help, Ana..." He told her.

"So… we'll do this in the bathroom, right?" She asked.

"Yes, it's over here." He replied, while walking into the bathroom, Ana following him suit.

She was standing so close to him right now. As her familiar scent invaded his nostrils, his eyes closed for two seconds. Like always; strawberry and papaya.

"Where's the emergency kit, Christian?"

He handed it over to her, and kept watching her. As Ana cleaned up his wounds, Christian was unable to tear his eyes from her. His eyes unintentionally landed on her lips, making him think of the night at the masquerade ball. He had kissed her… and God, right now as she was concentrating on her task at hand, biting her bottom lip… God, he desperately wanted to feel those soft, warm lips on his again…

Yes, he was still hurt. Yes, he was still angry at her for ignoring him. But God, he cared so much about her… he just wanted her. Did she want him, like he wanted her though?

Ana was doing a good job at taking care of his wounds. At one point, his eyes fell shut, 'cause it was so hard to be so close to her and not be able to touch her.

Christian took deep breaths, as her fingertips grazed his skin. Yes, it hurt but he didn't have any trouble with the pain. He had trouble with her being so close to him, breathing so close to him, and inhaling her sweet scent. Oh, he didn't have trouble with the pain. However, he sure had trouble how her fingers felt on his skin.

At the moment, he felt like she was setting every inch of him on fire with her touch...

"Are you doing, OK? Does it hurt a lot?" he heard her say.

"No, the pain isn't that bad. I'm OK, Ana," he replied with difficulty, his eyes still shut, attempting to keep it together.

He so wanted to grab and kiss her!

Ana was glad that she was doing an OK job with his bandages... 'cause she too was a little distracted by Christian. Her fingers trembled, when she realized that they were all alone. He was shirtless, in only his sweatpants. She was touching his fiery skin, smelling his cologne. Just being this close to him, made her head spin deliciously…

"Earth to Ana... Hello, Ana?" She heard him whisper.

"Huh?!" She replied and locked eyes with him.

"I think you're done, right?" he asked softly, his lips so very close to hers.

They were gazing into each other's eyes, like there was no tomorrow. Christian had the sudden urge to bring his hand towards her face, to caress her cheek with his fingers. But he intended to take his time and caress it slowly, very slowly to make the feeling last longer. He imagined that if he did, she would automatically shut her eyes tightly, the very second his fingertips collided with her warm skin, making her sigh with content.

She was still looking him straight in the eyes, trying to convince him that she was not going to leave him again... Ana was determined to proof to him that she was here to stay...

Without breaking eye contact, their eyes communicated, both almost forgetting to breathe. It was like time stood still, and you can almost hear a pin drop. It was that quiet.

He didn't know what came over him. It was like a stubborn voice in his head was spurring him on.' Do it, make a move. You know that you love her, you can see it in her eyes... she feels the same way. Do it… make a move.'

But it was like he was frozen, unable to do a single thing.

Ana was so overwhelmed by her emotions, by his closeness and the way he was looking into her eyes. Her heart was beating uncontrollably, like it wanted to come out of her chest. It became too much for her little heart to take, she couldn't resist him anymore. So as she avoided his gaze, Ana held onto him, one hand on his chest and the other on his upper arm. As her face landed in the crook of his neck, she was able to hear him breathe, also the beating of his heart...

The second that happened, he closed his eyes, smelling her shiny hair, enjoying her warm body leaning onto his. A whirlwind of emotions went through him, his mind clouded, his hands clenched into fists, her scent driving him crazy, increasing his adrenaline. His heart was beating wildly, while he felt how hers was beating faster and faster.

Then Ana looked up at him, their faces so close, their lips inches apart. They were so lost in the moment, forgetting everything around them. Without a single thought, he closed the little gap between them…

And just as her lips were about to collide with his… Christian pulled away.

Ana watched him, her heart breaking into pieces. Didn't he feel the same way? As she pulled herself away from him, Ana felt him tighten his grip on her.

"Christian?" she asked, and gave him a questioning look.

He locked eyes with her again. "Ana," he said, his voice pleading.

In his eyes see saw LOVE. He did feel the same way... He did!

He was here and she was here. Together. No one said that life was easy, but if they just leaned on each other, life would be okay no matter the obstacles. Big or small.

At one point, his fingers gripped her waist so tightly, the feeling of her soft curves on his fingertips driving him mad...

They both were lost in each other's gaze right now, both realizing what the other felt, even though words weren't used. Words weren't necessary at this point. Not at all.

So as he dipped his head to press his lips onto hers, they both closed their eyes.

And just as their lips were about to collide, both Christian's and Ana's phone rang loudly...
