Disclaimer I don't own Amphibia.
Anne could barely sleep, although she was finally in her bed own again. The young girl had been tossing and turning throughout the night. Every time she tried to closed her eyes she was haunted by nightmares of Andrias stabbing Marcy. It was not only Marcy but she saw the Plantars as well as Sasha getting impaled as the tyrant newt king coldly laughed. The plaguing nightmares cost the young girl to wake in cold sweat.
Feeling like some fresh water and some air would do some good. She carefully and quietly walked across her room, watching her step to not wake up Sprig and Polly who were resting in sleeping bags. After leaving her room, she quickly made he way downstairs and to the kitchen.
As she flick on the light, she was startled by Hop Pop sitting down in the kitchen seat looking deep in thought.
"Aww, dude! You scared me," Anne glared, "What are you doing down here?"
Hop Pop frozen before replying after what felt like hours, "Oh, sorry Anne." He spoke as if he just noticed her. "Why are you up?"
"Can't sleep."
"You to huh?" Hop Pop motioned her to sit down, "Its understandable. After... What happened."
Anne starred down at her hands, trying to avoid looking at her adopted grandfather. Wiping away a tear, "I just..." She felt Hop Pop gently petting her arm.
"It's okay dear, just let it out." He spoke softly.
Anne gave a small smile, "Its, just I see her... I see her every time I close my eyes, along with... him." Hop Pop past her a tissue, she thanked him as she wiped away her tears. "I see her, and he's laughing. I see Marcy she right in front of me. Were just playing, laughing... And then she taken away. Sometimes I see you, Sprig, Polly and Sasha as well.I just feel so helpless, were struck here, while everyone back in Amphibia could be."
"That's..." Hop Pop closed his eyes. "The hardest part of surviving Anne. Its that you ended up with the ghosts of everyone you'd ever left behind riding on your shoulders. I know that pain all to well Anne." Anne looked across at her froggy guardian. "There's no pain that can match to be helpless in face of a loved one's suffering. I always felt if I was just stay at home, and not at the Bizarre Bazaar if I just stayed home I could have saved my wife, my little girl and her husband..." He looked down. "It was today I realize that I wouldn't have changed again."
"I almost lost my whole family today... and the whole time I was too helpless to help any of you." Hop Pop wiped away his tears. "What kind of guardian can't look after his kids."
"None of this was your fault" Anne petting her guardian arm. "You done your best."
"Th... Thanks Anne."
"Hop Pop, I think I understand why... You hide the box." Hop Pop was about to apologies as Anne held her hand up, "After what happened with... Marcy. I would do whatever it to takes to protect you and my family from something like that again." She gave her him tight hug. "So I do forgive you."
"And I'm sorry for that Anne." Hop Pop didn't complain about the tight hug, and petted her back.
"It's just... I have no idea... What were going to do next."
"I'm sure will think of something."
