This story is inspired by How eating a strange fruit gave me a quirk.
Great story by the way, I recommend it. Kudos to the author.
The bell had rung, and kids were scrambling to the doors. It was the end of the school year. And for our young protagonist, it was the end of his first middle school year. Izuku liked and loathed school. He liked learning, that was pretty much it to be honest. As for why he hated it, well...
"DEKU!", a loud voice came behind him as he was leaving school. "WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT COMING THIS WAY FROM SCHOOL".
Izuku turned behind him to see his former childhood-friend. He was stomping towards him with his usual lackeys behind him.
"S-s-sorry Kacchan", said Deku, hoping to get away as soon as possible.
"Haven't I told you Deku that I didn't want others to see me anywhere close to you", the angry blonde said, no longer shouting by closing the distance between the two. "And stop calling me that nickname, it's annoying."
"Yes, s-sorry Kacchan", Deku said turning around before the explosion-user yelled back, "STOP CALLING ME THAT."
Izuku fled before he could be caught by the trio. This was how most of his school days went by. He would always be picked on by others, his former friend being what you may call the ringleader.
When he got home, he was greeted by his mother, Inko. She was one of the few people that stuck by his side despite being quirkless. As he greeted his mother he walked to the fridge and grabbed a fruit plate, not paying attention to the contents. He told his mother he was going to be in his room. She knew why, ever since that doctor's visit, the day he was diagnosed quirkless, he would go to his room and play All Might's debut video on loop. He never seemed to get tired of watching it for the, who knows number of times.
As he walked into his room, b-lining to his computer, you could see All Might merchandise stacked everywhere, from figurines to posters to an All Might-themed cabinet. The room was dark, to the point he couldn't even see the kind of fruit he had in his hand unless he squinted enough. He sat in his chair and began watching the video on loop. He slowly grabbed a handful of fruit and shoved a handful in his mouth. A few seconds passed with only the sound of the video being played. But as Izuku swallowed his food, he started to register how bad it tasted. He went to turn on his lamp to get a look at the fruits. He eyed the fruit but didn't notice anything weird about any of it. Must have been a bad handful, he thought.
By the end of the day, he showered and headed for bed. Thankfully, I have all of summer break. I don't have to go back to school to all the horrors that wait for me. He closed his eyes to fall asleep, only to be brought to a black void.
Izuku stood in a space of emptiness. He wondered and worried about where he was when a hand went over his shoulder. He turned around to see a tall being. It was a few times his size and was colored purple all throughout its body. And in the best way he could describe it was that it looked like a wingless devil. The strange thing was, was when he looked at the large figure towering over him, he didn't feel an ounce of fear. In fact, it comforted him when it had its hand on his shoulder.
"Young one, do you know who I am", the devil spoke in a slight feminine voice.
Izuku shook his head giving a no for an answer.
"Well then, I guess I should explain", the devil said before clearing her throat. "I am a devil, a devil that inhabits what my world called devil fruits. When our fruits were consumed, we would inhabit the new user and-", she talked on, telling Izuku about her world and how it worked. Saying that the awful tasting fruits he had tasted earlier were devil fruits and that she was the devil that lived in that fruit.
"You're not going to, uhm, make me sell my soul, are you", Izuku said with a shy voice.
"No, it gives no benefit to me", she said, "Plus, if I took your soul, then I would be stuck in a fruit for god knows how long. Do you know how boring it is to sit in a fruit for eternity and have no control over what you do? At least when we have a vessel, we can watch all the action." she finished her slight rant with a huff.
"Anyway, I don't know why I am here, as far as I know, this isn't my world. Although I can sense some of my brethren in this world", she said with a smile for some reason. He then started to notice that she was trying to hold in a laugh.
"What's so funny", he asked curiously.
"Oh, the funny part is where my brethren are", she responded before pointing upward.
Izuku followed the finger up until he saw what she meant. Up above him were five other devils that looked to be having a heated argument. But they didn't make a sound. It was as if the entire conversation was muted. What spooked Izuku the most however, was that even though he could see them above his head, it was as if he couldn't see them all. Like a mixture of non and real existence.
He turned to the purple devil before asking, "What are they fighting over?"
"We don't like each other. Whenever there are two of us in one body, we tend to tear the said body apart", the pink devil responded with a lighthearted tone.
Izuku stepped back, mortified by what the devil said.
"Oh, don't worry, we won't try to tear up your body. After all, if you died, then we would be back in fruits. And this world doesn't know of devil fruits, so we must just get constantly discarded as abominations of a fruit. Then no one would eat us, and we would be possible stuck for all of eternity", the pink devil said in a way to light-hearted tone for what she was saying.
Izuku was feeling glad he wouldn't die but also kind of sad that they were restricted to such fate. Imagine being stuck in a fruit for thousands, maybe millions of years. "Then what's gonna happen now," the boy asked.
"Well right now, your body can't take using all of us at once, so we're going to start by using my power okay." the devil responded.
"What is your power then", the green-haired noy asked.
"You will find out when you wake up, but I should warn you", the devil paused, letting Izuku put his full attention to the devil. "Devil fruit users have one weakness, and that is that they can't swim. The sea hates us, so any water can be a death sentence If you aren't careful."
"But I took a shower just fine", Izuku rebutted.
"It's like this, if its standing water above your ankles, you die. If it's something like rain or a shower, then you're fine", the devil answered his questioned.
She really needed to not refer everything to death, was Izuku's first thought. He was slowly realizing the situation though. I ate, according to the number of horned beings in this void, six inter-dimensional fruits that are supposed to give me powers. This is just a dream isn't it.
"No, it isn't", he was interrupted out of his thoughts when a now familiar voice chimed in.
"You can read my mind," he questioned.
"Absolutely, this entire area is your mindscape, which means we know everything you think." she answered back before saying, "Any who, gotta go. We probably won't see each other for a while, so just keep training yourself so you can use the others."
"Wait, you're leaving just like that", the 8-year-old retorted.
"I already said everything I needed to say, so there isn't much of a reason to stay any longer." she said as she sent a smile his way.
"You're not going to give me any advice or tricks on how to use your powers." Izuku almost shouted at the devil walking away.
"Nope", she said, making Izuku deadpanned before everything fell into darkness.
