Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Wolf and Reaper. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own RWBY, Monty Oum, and Rooster Teeth do.
(Mistral.)
"Ruby. I'm sorry, your dad wanted us to draw you back to Azul." Jaune stated to Ruby. "Ruby? You can talk to us, you know. We're always here for you." Jaune put in meekly.
Ruby said nothing. Jaune saw the reaper sat where she was. Azul grunted, the result of the pilots giving him an anti-poison. Ruby heard he'd be up within a day. His aura was healed up and helping push the poison out of his system even more.
"Listen, kiddo, I…" Qrow started to say to Ruby. "I know you're mad at me," Qrow added before starting to speak again.
"What? You think I couldn't handle it?" Ruby asked. She shifted her gaze to look at Qrow. "You think your darling daughter couldn't kill a Grimm that big when I killed a Nevermore close to that big?" Ruby hissed out.
She was ticked. Ruby knew her father was just looking out for her. Ruby loved her father, but currently? Ruby was FAR too angry to care. Qrow Branwen knew his daughter wasn't going to back down.
"Ruby. You can't blame Qrow for what he-," Jaune started to say before Qrow cut him off.
"Listen, boy scout. I appreciate it? This is Rose's family business," Qrow stated to Jaune. He turned to Ruby a second later. "Ruby, I can't let you throw your life away for nothing." Qrow put into Ruby.
Azul grunted as Ruby ran her rough fingers through his hair before turning to Qrow.
"I wasn't throwing it away, dad!" Ruby yelled at the top of her lungs. She turned to Azul; angry she had gotten her voice too high. "I've been fighting Grimm since I could first hold a weapon. You babied me back then and I understood it. I'm starting to get sick of you treating me like a baby still." Ruby stated in a whispered tone.
Jaune, Nora, and Ren all shared looks. They could see the two Rose family members were busy looking ready to fight. Jaune was ready to step in if he had to. He hoped he didn't, however. Jaune didn't want to resort to violence to stop his friend.
"You didn't do that just for Mistral, Ruby! I know you're taking this out on the Grimm for what Cinder did!" Qrow yelled at Ruby. He paused before lowering his tone. "Azul wouldn't want you to throw away your life and you know it," Qrow stated to Ruby.
His daughter glared at him. Qrow knew he had broken skin to try and convince her to back down. Ruby and Azul just like everyone had wounds left from Vale. Qrow doubted anyone walked away from the siege without scars.
Still? His daughter was his family. Qrow had made a promise to his wife that he'd never allow his daughter to get into trouble. He had broken that promise in Vale, he'd be damned if it happened again.
"Azul got hurt because of Cinder," Ruby stated to everyone, father included. "We all got hurt because of Cinder. I and Azul weren't able to let the woman run halfway across the ocean to go plot Haven's destruction." Ruby put in a matter-of-fact tone.
Qrow said nothing to Ruby. She had the bullheaded determination of her mother. A trait he was very proud of was how much she took after both him and her.
Still? Qrow knew himself. He wouldn't quit fighting if he had the choice. Ruby wasn't going to surrender fighting as well.
"Ruby. I'm not going to apologize for what I did," Qrow started to say. "I did what I had to do to make sure that you stayed alive. That Grimm needed teamwork to kill. I saw it baiting you." Qrow finished his sentence with a slight yawn.
Flying across an entire kingdom to find his daughter would do that. Qrow had no idea what to tell Ruby. He would come off as a hypocrite if he tried to play the 'I can handle Grimm and you can't' card. Qrow would also come off as an overprotective parent if he tried to appeal more to Ruby's views.
"We can talk about this when we get to Haven," Qrow stated to his daughter. "Your team and sister? Those friends you made when you first got to Beacon have been tearing Vale apart. They didn't know you went to Mistral. They would have flipped if they found out you were here," Qrow put into Ruby with a shake of his head.
"I'm not going to stop fighting, dad," Ruby announced to her father with no venom absent. "If nobody stops Cinder? Haven is going to suffer just like Vale did," Ruby said as she looked away.
Qrow sighed and ended the talk. He couldn't convince Ruby to back down. Qrow already knew she was talking the truth to her father.
Still? He prayed she hadn't.
